ITunes 7.7 "fudged" iTMS album art

As of iTunes 7.7, all of the album art I've been trying to download for several of my albums for probably over a year, but have only been available at extremely low resolution, are now downloading in full (600x600) size, but in every case, the images are clearly just blown up versions of the previous small graphics--in other words, they look terrible.
This is definitely what's happening for me, but is anyone else experiencing the same thing?

OK, here is a quick list. I love iTunes Store album art, so I keep on top of my artwork with a lot of enthusiasm
Jane Siberry - Love Is Everything: The Jane Siberry Anthology
(This one looks the worst, since the original artwork was far smaller than the usual "small" size)
Jewel - Joy: A Holiday Collection
Jewel - Spirit
Lou Reed & John Cale - Songs For Drella
Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Greendale
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - No More Shall We Part
Ride - Nowhere
(The UK version, which contains the artist and album names on the cover, is available at 600x600, but not the US version, which is the one I have--this version has no text on the cover)
Tom Waits - Foreign Affairs
Tom Waits - Small Change
Tori Amos - From The Choirgirl Hotel
Tori Amos - Little Earthquakes
(Interestingly, this artwork has never been available on the Finnish iTunes Store, though there are three entries for the album there under different genres. Logging in with my US account, I have always been able to download the "small" album art, but never a high-res version)
Tori Amos - Strange Little Girls
(This is not only the "small" version, but not the standard cover/the one I have, which looks like the picture in the lower right corner of the current iTunes Store art)
Warren Zevon - Genius: The Best Of Warren Zevon
(This one surprises me, since Warren Zevon has been featured in some of Apple's advertising)
That is it for now. My library is in very good shape, thanks in huge part to the album artwork made available through the iTunes Store. Please let me know either on- or off-line if you need any further clarification on the items listed above. Thank you!

How do i get itunes 11 to display my album art while in list mode like it did in the previous version?

I think the Sidebar preview image is gone. But found that when I'm playing music either from the entire library or a playlist you can click the tiny thumbnail at the top to open a Artwork based player that is scalable. Reduce (minimize) the main Itunes window and the player is actually Nice.  Hope that helps.

I have an iPod Touch 4th gen and ever since i updated itunes, its stopped syncing my album art and artist info to my songs. at first, it would just take a few tries at syncing before it would update the artwork on my ipod, but now it doesnt update it at all! i've reinstalled itunes countless times, and i've even restored my ipod to factory settings but it STILL wont update. • Can I force iTunes not to embed custom album art, but store it separately?

(I only use iTunes to manage my 16GB iPod nano 5th gen and update my mother's iPad.)
Now as far as I am aware, when iTunes downloads album art, it stores it separately from the audio files, and thus several tracks share the same image file for their artwork. This seems economical to me, considering the space limitations that most Apple devices have.
But if you set your custom album art, iTunes embeds it into the audio files themselves, so each has a copy of the artwork, and thus the total size of artwork increases about tenfold. Now this is okay when storing the audio files on personal computers, but is quite stupid for devices with limited storage capacities. It really depends on the size of the artwork and the bitrate your audio is encoded to, but I calculated I could put an extra 300MB of music onto my iPod if I could just somehow force iTunes to store my custom album art separately, not embed it into the audio files by default.
Does anybody have an answer/solution to this problem, or do I have to look beyond iTunes to do this?
    Thanks!
(Note that I do not wish to use the iTunes download artwork service, as it is quite unreliable and the artwork is of low quality.)

  • My new iTunes messed up my iPods album art

I updated my 5G video iPod... and everything seemed fine until I tried playing an album on my iPod after the update. Apparenlty if I'm playing, lets just say the song "One", by U2 on the album Achtung Baby, for example... it will play fine, BUT IT WILL SHOW ANOTHER ALBUM'S ARTOWKR WITH THE ALBUM. For example instead of showing Achtung Baby's cover for the song "One", it shows the cover for a Pearl Jam album or something.
I have no idea how to make it stop, and just show the normal album art. I've played Mars Volta, Pearl Jam... etc... and they all show other bands album art for the albums. It seems to be entirely thrown off and doesn't know how to show an albums PROPER album art.
Someone please tell me they know how to fix this.

Highlight the ipods name in iTUnes. Hit the "Music" tab and UNCHECK "Display Album artwork on your ipod" then hit "Apply" in the lower right corner of itunes. THis will update your ipod. Wait for it to finish updating.
When its done updating just CHECK the box again and hit "Apply" again and let it update.
What happend is the ipods DB (Database) got allittle "Fudged up" and doing these steps makes iTUnes rewrite the ipods DB. Its not an issue with the update or iTUnes, its happened in other versions

  • ITunes 9.0.2 rejects album art from Safari drag source

When editing audio tracks in iTunes 9.0.2 (25), I find that I can no longer directly drag and drop album art from remote Internet-based source in Safari into the album art space when I get info on tracks. The drag and drop operation signals that it receptive to the drop action by displaying a target rectangle around the album art space, but the album art refuses to copy to the files. The workaround is to drag the image file from Safari to the Finder desktop, then drag it from the desktop to the album art spot in iTunes.
Can anyone else confirm this bug?

This is the post I did a few days back:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2215713&tstart=0
Roy B suggested you can drag the artwork from Safari directly to the lower left corner of the main iTunes window. There are two inconvenience problems:
    (1) You have to be playing the song in order to drag the artwork.
    (2) Because it si located in the lower left, I always have to move iTunes window over in order to drag the artwork from Safari.

  • ITunes (iMac) can't find album art

So about a month ago I finally took the plunge and switched from PC to Mac. I have an iMac, running Mavericks, and itunes 11.
I also have a Time Capsule, and when I moved my itunes library from the PC I put it there, both so I wouldn't clutter up my new hard drive and also to allow it to be accessed by other devices. I've had some trouble getting itunes to use that location as its default, especially after a reboot.
Itunes has lost a lot of the album art that the PC had. I moved everything from my PC, including the album art, which was in its own folder in the itunes library. And anyway, this is all stuff that should be accessible on the online database, since that's where it came from originally. I didn't scan in any jpgs or anything. When I go and look in the album art file folder it's all just folders inside folders, and I don't actually see any files.
So, what's the deal? Is it confused because these cds were inported by a PC? The songs play fine. If I put in a cd will it grab the metadata without my having to re-import the whole thing? Not keen on doing that.
This isn't a disaster or anything, it's just annoying. It's easier to scan my album list when the cover art shows than when half the albums show a gray box.

When you changed the directory, did you (or iTunes) move the actually music files? If you see little exclamation points and fail to be able to play the music in iTunes, this is probably your problem. You cannot update disconnected files.
You may also want to assure you are logged in to the iTunes store and that you can view the store? Maybe you have a firewall program like Zone Alarm blocking access?
Did you change anything else on your machine or install other software since the last time you were able to get album art that might be causing the problem?

  • ITunes 7.3.2.6 album art as viewable photos

i am using iTunes 7.3.2.6 in windows XP and have for the last year & a half manually imported all my music from either cd or live music files on my hard drive. since 2/3 of my music is live i have always provided my own album art from jpegs of concert posters, tickets, backstage passes, scans of the cd covers etc. which i store in an _iPod Photo Cache subdirectory within my _All-iTunes directory under my documents. i prefer not to use the generic "my pictures" & "my music" directories.
i select album art from there and download / manually synch this image directory to my iPod using explorer or acdsee 9.0 photo manager using the same directory structure. iTunes displays the album image fine as does my iPod in the "now playing" view.
when i try to view my images as photos on my iPod however i am only able to see maybe a couple dozen of probably 2000+ images.
how can i make the rest / all of these images viewable on my iPod ? when i tried downloading as photos through iTunes it seems to want to rename them and lose the album art link.
    followup question:
where can i learn more about the directory / file structure of my iPod so i can possibly answer these questions myself ?

photos are apparently stored separately from "album art" and images used for album art would be duplicated elsewhere on the ipod

  • How come you need an iTunes Store account to get album art?

I have no problem with this, because I do have an account. But on my sister's computer, she can't get album art because she doesn't have an iTunes Store account. Mainly because you need a credit card to set one up, and she's only 10. She just uses iTunes to burn her CD's to play on her iPod, she's only 10, why does she need an account to get album art?

I don't think any of us can definitively answer this one since it is decided by somebody like iTunes marketing. However, Apple is a for-profit corporation. The album artwork download is definitely a service for customers, and maybe a free perk to potential customers. If you have that account you are just one tiny click away from making a purchase and don't even have time to have second thoughts that you might have if you had to enter a credit card number each time. Kind of like a store offering something free inside to get you to walk through the door.

  • How come itunes does not get all album arts works reply asap thanks

    like for
    kayne west- graduation album
it doesnt download the album artwork for it
but for others it gets it
i mean the album is already in itunes store
    whats going on
can you link me the contact page for itunes store

iTunes will connect to Apple's servers to get the album art. As for iTunes not getting the art for all your albums, I don't know why this happens. Usually this happens if the albums are not on the iTunes store - but your case seems to be different.
Here's what I do: If you really want your cover art, you can use Google's image search to manually download it. In iTunes' grid view, right-click on the album in question, click "Get Info" and then say "Yes". In the Info tab, double click on the white box under "Artwork" (in the lower right corner) and manually navigate over to your artwork file. Select it, press open or double click, then click OK. Since you selected the whole album, iTunes will embed the artwork into all the files on your album. The next time you sync, it will also appear on your device(s).
Have a good time getting your artwork! Hope this helps
Edit: There may be times when iTunes will not edit your files after you click OK. This may be a problem with the permissions of the folder where your files are located. Let me know if this happens.

  • Itunes 10.5 not showing album art or syncing it to my ipod touch

I updated iTunes and suddenly it's now showing any of my album art? The artwork is still showing up on my iPod touch 4g, just not on iTunes. Also when I add artwork to an album it isn't syncing to my iPod at all. Just curious if I'm the only one having this problem or if anyone has a solution?

I have the same problem with a Iphone 3g with windows 7 and itunes 10.4

  • Anyway to get iTunes to find media info/album art like Media Player does?

I was wandering if iTunes can do this, or if theres a plugin as to be honest windows media player is **** and keeps messing up my iTunes folder..

I use fetch art which seems to do a pretty good job, although I'm sure there are probably others out there.

  • ITunes 10 does not add album art to 'Now playing' song

If an artwork is added to a song being played, via drag&drop into the artwork box or copy-paste or via the 'Get Info' window, it is not displayed in the artwork box; it is, however, visible in the Artwork section of the 'Get Info' window.
The cover art is displayed only after another song is played or iTunes is re-launched.
    Any ideas anyone?
    iTunes 10.6.3
    OS X Lion 10.7.4
    Intel iMac

I called Apple and was told that I needed to restore the iPod. The problem is that I had purchased and installed the January upgrade on my iMac and not my MacBook.
I restored the iPod on the iMac and then synced to the MacBook.
    Problem solved!

  • Adding Album Art to iTunes Local Folder?

I have a setup on iTunes on my Dell Dimension Desktop Machine. Basically I have uploaded ALL my CD collection to HDD in WAV format to retain sound quality.
My problem is with getting all the Album Art to work.
About one third of my collection iTunes does not have the Album Art? so I have scanned it all manually and placed an Folder.jpg in each Album/Track Folder.
I appreciate that WAV music files don't have a means of adding extra data to them like MP3 files, therefore, iTunes saves its own downloaded Album Art in a folder called "Download", there is also another Folder called "Local" which is where your manually added Album Art should go?
These are stored as .itc files
However then I try to manually try to add my own album art to the album, by selecting all tracks, Get info, Add album art to the white square and pressing OK nothing happens?
In the Artwork display box it say in large text "Artwork Not Modifiable"? for some reason?
    Any ideas??

Hi Andrew. As far as plug&play, I have not found anything. My best bet was to use a proper utility to grab album art on a go forward basis for all new tracks, and then for the old tracks that have the incorrect metadata, I slowly go through, open up a browser with amazon.com loaded, and then search for the albums/related art that I need. Once I find it I click on the album art in the main browser, which spawns a child window with just the jpeg of the album art in it, and then drag and drop it from that browser into the album art pane. Far from plug and play, but it gets the job done.
