ITunes 7.7 not connecting to the internet (Windows XP)

I downloaded iTunes 7.7 a few days ago and since then I cannot go to the iTunes store to buy songs, update podcasts, or even find track names or album art. The connection with iTunes does not work. It tells me my network connection has failed and to try again after hooking it up. It is in fact hooked up, and I have run diagnostics only to find unhelpful answers. I have tried them all and they don't work, and even the Apple support website tells me the same unhelpful hints. ( seen here at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesWin/7.5/en/15485.html ) I also deleted my iTunes 7.6, which I probably should not have done. But who knows if that was even the problem?
Somebody please help. I need to establish a connection with iTunes and my fully functional (and connected) internet network that worked a mere 5 days ago. Thank you.

This happens a lot on iTunes upgrades. Security software programs like Norton, McAfee, NOD, etc. block the new iTunes version.
Apparently it is not enough to check the security software settings to see if iTunes is allowed - you have to actually remove itunes from the programs list, and then add it back in.
Go into Norton/McAfee/NOD/etc. and tell it to allow these programs:
itunes.exe
ituneshelper.exe
mDNSResponder.exe

The "Search Discussions" feature is back, so you can find other posts where this has helped many people.
If you don't have Norton or whatnot, try these MSCONFIG steps. This article is for XP, but it has a link to the Vista directions.

    If you are the only user on your computer you probably don't have multiple user accounts set up and can disregard that.  If you are using iTunes 11 go to View>Show Sidebar.  Now see if your iPad appears under Devices on the left side when you connect it.  If it does, click on the name of your iPad on the left side and your iTunes sync settings options will appear in folders with tabbed headings to the right.
    If it doesn't appear on the left side, follow the troubleshooting steps shown in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538.

  • The dreaded "You are not connected to the Internet" window.

    Is it just me, or are others having connectivity problems as the "You are not connected to the Internet" window constantly appears while moving from site to site or link to link?  I have a new iMac and just upgraded Mountain Lion, which I now suspect is the problem.  I have tried all kinds of hardware/software fixes.  Nothing works.  Sheesh!

    Thanks for the reply, Greg.  I do have my wife's Mac laptop to test with.  She's experiencing the same sporatic disconnect problem, too.  She's on wifi, I'm on ethernet (I keep my wifi off).  We're in a home. I upgraded our cable modem yesterday (after this problem started) and checked all the wires/connections; everything seems okay.  I thought it was the Mountain Lion upgrade, but this problem doesn't appear to be widespread.  Very strange how connection can stop and start (and stop and start) during a short period of time.  Never expereinced this before.  So now, a hardware problem?  But that wouldn't explain my wife's problem, so maybe it's the modem or the service provider (Comcast).  I hate like **** to have to talk with them.

  • MBP: iTunes says im not connected to the internet when I am.

    Hi,
    I have had this problem for quite some time now and its starting to irritate me.
    I am trying to update my my iTunes version from 10.2.2 to 10.3.1 but it tells me that I am not connected to the internet when I clearly am. Everything worked perfectly (uTorrent, Firefox, Safari, MSN) even the iTunes store and the app store.
    Issue:
    * Open iTunes
    * Click iTunes
    * Click 'Check for updates'
    * Version 10.3.1 is available for download
    - Click 'Download now'
    * MBP says its 'Checking for new software'
    * MBP says 'Software update cannot check for updates because of a network problem'
    * Click 'Network diagnostic'
    - MBP says that my internet is running perfectly
    * iTunes software update closes by itself

  • Itunes says I'm not connected to the Internet Windows 7

    I am using Windows 7 and have downloaded an update to Itunes.  It now says it can't connect to internet, even though I am connected.  I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling.  I also went to the command screen and typed something in with the word flush (sorry not a real computer guru here).  I've tried the help screens, googled, and the thing still doesn't work.  I checked my firewall and itunes is enabled.  I also am running Norton Antivirus and Itunes is also on the approved list on that.  I even disabled firewall with Norton and nothing.  I'm going mad!!!    Please help

  • How do I listen to iTunes music when not connected to the Internet?

    I have an iPad that we use for traveling in rural areas where Internet is not available. I have purchased lots of music on ITunes but can't access the songs when traveling. How do I download those songs to my iPad so I can listen to them when I can't access the cloud?

    Do you have iTunes Match? If not, then any music you sync to your device is available to play at any time. No connection of any sort is needed - just battery power.
    Can you provide a little more information as to whether or not your have Match, and what you are seeing in your Music app?
    Cheers,

  • What do i do if my internet is wep and i need it to be wpa2 because my ipod touch 4th gen connects to the internet but when i click on safari or itunes it says safari cannot open the page because its not connected to the internet

    what do i do if my internet is wep and i need it to be wpa2 because my ipod touch 4th gen connects to the internet but when i click on safari or itunes it says safari cannot open the page because its not connected to the internet. i have contacted apple support and they said to change from wep to wpa2 but when i change it to wpa2 and type in password and connect on my laptop it says the saved setting on this computer for the network do not match the require ments of the network

    My 2nd gen works fine with WPA2 and AES encryption.
    You may need to go back and start over.  Reset the router back to factory defaults, log on as the admin, set up security, DHCP, and make sure the IP address pool has enough IP addresses to lease to ALL of the computers/devices that will connect to that the router.

  • When I try to access the itunes store I get an error message that my computer is not connected to the internet, even though it is. How do I fix this? Thanks.

    For some reason when I open iTunes, and try to access the itunes store, help, my account, or anything else I get a message saying that I'm not connected to the internet, even when I know that I am. What's wrong?

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
    (Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
    In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
    If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
    Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
    If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

  • My itunes will not connect to the internet for some reason,

    i can go to the itunes store but when i try to update my iphone it tells me i am not connected to the internet whats going on? anyone have any idea?

    I am experiencing this problem as well.
    I have access to the internet and can download songs from the music store but iTunes is being its usual pain in the rear and says I do not have an internet connection when I try to download any updates.
    This does not seem to be a firewall issue, at least as far as I can tell, as I have McAfee and both iTunes and iTunes Helper have Full Access in my firewall settings.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I cannot synch movies to my iPad.  This has worked for me in the past.  I keep getting an error message that I am not connected to the internet.  Yet, I certainly am.  How else could I post this message.  I can listen to music clips from the iTunes store, fetch my email, and read current newspapers on the internet.  I restarted both my iMac and my Ipad and that didnot help.

    I completely understand what is happening. I know that you are connected to the Internet. I made the suggestion because I have seen it work in similar circumstances. The Apple iTunes servers can be a bit fussy about things and sometimes rebooting the router clears up this miscommunication between iTunes and your network.
    Have you tried signing into your account and then try to sync again. Go to Store>View Account. You will have to enter your password. Then try to sync again. Or try signing out completely in Store>Sign out. Quit iTunes, sign in again and then try to sync again.
    Sometimes refreshing settings will help clear up weird problems.

  • Iphone 3Gs won't update i get an error message that says i am not connected to the internet. i HAVE TRIED ALL THE RECOMENDED TROUBLESHOOTING. ITUNES UPDATE WAS SUCCESSFUL AND I AM NOT HAVING ANY TROUBLE WITH THE ITUNES STORE. SO IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE

    When I go to sync my iphone 3gs itunes alerts me that an update is available. I check to download an update. I then receive an error message stating that I am not connected to the internet. I am 100% positive that I am connected and before this download I was instructed to update itunes which I did without any problems and restarted my computer. • I have windows vista home premium and all other versions of iTunes worked on my laptop iTunes 10 won't work, I get a message saying I'm not connected to the Internet when I am. Why isn't iTunes recognizing my browser configuration?

    I have windows vista home premium and all other iTunes worked on my laptop, I downloaded iTunes 10 and now the iTunes will not connect to the Internet. I use Mozilla firefox on my laptop and for some reason it keeps saying the connection timed out and I'm not connected to the Internet when I am. Why isn't iTunes recognizing my web configuration?

    It probably has to do with your security and/or browser configuration.
    When my laptop crashed last year and I had to get a new one, I dealt with the same thing. First, go to your control panel and select the security section. See if your firewalls are up or not. If they are, turn them off. If you have any software to speed up your browser, that can affect the connection as well. Go into that software and disble/turn it off. If this doesn't work, contact customer support. They have a few other tricks they had me try that worked, but I can't remember them now.

  • Ipod Stuck in "boot Loop" and itunes says I'm not connected to the internet.

    Aright well I'm having a huge problem fixing my ipod.    Let's start at the beginning, i wanted to put new music onto my ipod but itunes wasn't detecting my ipod, it said i have to restore my ipod to factory settings, so i manually did it from the ipod it's self.   When it started to boot up again it just froze at the apple logo. and the loading wheel is stuck. after some research i found out that its called "boot loop" and the only way to fix this is to restore it from itunes itself.
    sounds simple enough,  so i go ahead and connect the ipod to itunes and try to restore it (via DFU mode) The restore wont happen because it says im not connected to the Internet, when clearly i am.      So in a nutshell..   in order to restore my ipod.. i need to get itunes to recognize that I'm connected to the Internet.
    I've done everything i can think of,   make sure my firewall isn't interfering and itunes is enabled.  The Internet proxy is what it needs to be.  Ive uninstalled and reinstalled itunes.   I actually chatted with a apple tech and he couldn't seem to help me out.
    If anyone can help me or has been in this situation and know's exactly what to do.   please let me know.. it would be greatly appericated

    That was the first thing I tried..what the site told me, but its still telling me I'm not connected to the internet when I am. Should I just delete everything by hand. Like I said I wanted to take it back and upgrade to the 80 gig ipod.
