Itunes 7.7 won't install. Windows Explorer message pops up. ???

Well, Itunes sure makes it frustrating to do business with them. I've tried installing the Itunes update so I can purchase music from the site, but after trying several suggestions, I got to the point where the upgrade install was taking place, then I received a new screen informing me that "the following applications are using files that need to be updated by this installer. Close these apps..." the apps in question is (Windows Explorer, process Id: 1412) However, I'm not using this app and don't know how to close it. I don't usually like to give up on something like this, so I sure could use some help if anyone out there has this problem and knows how to resolve it. Thanks, buddyg.

Hey there, Janelle,
thanks for your reply to my question. I did what you suggested and went to the task manager, and there I found the Windows Explorer system. But before I end the process, a screen comes up telling me that I will lose any unsaved data in that process, and also that it might result in an unstable system. What do you think? What are the risks, if any, in ending this process for Windows Explorer? What is an unstable system, anyway?
Thank you in advance, take care
Buddyg

Itunes won't install. Error message: Apple Application Support not found.  What is the fix for this?

It is always these four updates that fail.  I've tried downloading and installing them seperately from apple downloads.  I've tried various recommended fixes, and nothing I can figure out works.  Before these problems, itunes worked on the computer for a year.
Thank you again for wanting to help me.

Okay ... so it's not one of the cases of bodged up ACLs on the Apple folder in Common Files. (That's been underlying a few of the recalcitrant E7W5s.

  • Adobe AIR won't install - Windows 7 Ultimate x64

    "Sorry, an error has occurred.
An error occurred while installing Adobe AIR. Installation may not be allowed by your administrator. Please contact your administrator."
Well, I asked myself and verified that I am allowed to install any programs I wish to at will.
I even toyed with adding extra permissions for the .exe and shortcut [see below], to no avail.
I also checked your Adobe AIR installation troubleshooter section before posting. Unfortunately, none of the solutions 100% applied to my circumstances or OS, yet I tried a few anyway and had it confirmed by a Windows dialogue that I need not have bothered as it assured me that they weren't applicable in my case.
I found another thread like mine where somebody suggested creating a shortcut with an additional -uninstall parameter added to the .exe path. It didn't work.
I used Microsoft's Installation Cleanup Utility and that didn't work to "un-confuse" the installer either.
Do you have any more suggestions?
Adobe AIR came with the HTC Sync program for my phone, which appears to have dependencies on it where it won't completely work without it.
Thanks in advance for any input.
ps. I created a new thread because I couldn't find the "reply" button on a similarly unresolved thread regarding Adobe AIR installation issues on Windows 7.

I would like to say thanks to artrose54 and to playswithtech for their thoughtful responses to my problem. I finally figured out which number I was to delete, and then, having made a copy of the number in notepad, deleted it. Upon a restart to my computer I then was able to download adobe air 2.7. I found that I still could not download the shutterfly express uploader, however; so I applied the same approach. I went looking for the number in the registry that corresponded to the uploader. I deleted it; restarted the computer; returned to shutterfly; and then was able to download the express uploader. I am sure I will find other uses for Adobe Air in the future.

    Hi everyone,
Here is the fix that worked for me,
You need to go to start run and type in regedit
now press ctrl+f for find and type in "adobe air" without the quotes then click find next
the first entry it finds is the one I deleted, it is a long number on left side of screen that is greyed just right click and delete it
I then rebooted the computer and ran adobe air installation
and it worked with out a problem
The adobe air log file really doesn't tell u anything but where it tried to find the setup.msi file
but it doesn't exist because of the registry entry that needs to be deleted which is what causes the error
If u r not sure of editing the registry then maybe you know someone that can help you
I hope this helps you out it worked for me

Uninstall your existing copy of iTunes. Delete any copies of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer files from your downloads areas for your web browsers and download a fresh copy of the iTunes installer from the Apple website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
(The current build of the 11.1.4.62 installer was changed a few days ago, which fixed the bulk of the reports of MSVCR80.dll/R6034/APSDaemon.exe/Error-7/AMDS-could-not-start trouble ... but the build number on the installer was not changed. So we're trying to make sure you do the reinstall using a "new good" 11.1.4.62 installer instead of an "old bad".)
Does the install with the new copy of the installer go through properly? If so, does that clear up the error message?
If you still have the same error messages cropping up, then try the procedures from the following user tip:

My iphone 5c says connect to itunes. It won't update/restore; error message (27) comes up. I also haven't backed the phone up since last year. HELP.

    Hi there owain11,
It looks like that particular error may be realted to a hardware issue. Take a look at the article below for more information.
Resolve iOS update and restore errors
    Check for hardware issues
    Related errors: 1, 3, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 34, 35, 36, 37, 40, 1000, 1002, 1004, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1667, or 1669.
These errors mean that your device or computer may have a hardware issue that's preventing the update or restore from completing.
Check that your security software and settings aren't preventing your device from communicating with the Apple update server.
Then try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good.
Confirm that your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.
If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

  • When trying to access my Itunes account I am getting an windows error message 3212

When accessng I tunes from my Icon I can view my library, but when I try to access the itunes store I am getting a windows error message marked "3212" What does this mean?

I've just (finally) managed to fix this problem today. I checked the Apple Support forums, and it seems a lot of people are having the same problem.
I rang the Apple Support line, and the very helpful man (thanks Alan!) talked me through it stage by stage. If you go to the following page on the internet: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376   it takes you through the process. WARNING - it takes a little time!
Basically, the first thing you have to do is go to your Program Files and double click on your iTunes folder. There'll be a number of files with the suffix .dll - you need to move all the .dll files from that folder to your desktop - you can simply click and drag them on the desktop..
Next, uninstall iTunes - go to Control Panel / Add/Rempve Programs and when the list comes up remove iTunes. This will take a few minutes... Then reboot your computer.
Next, go back to Control Panel / Add Remove and Remove - IN THIS ORDER -
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
    Reboot again!
Next, check in your Program Files that the iTunes folder is completely gone - if it has, great: if it hasn't, right-click on the folder and press Shift and Delete - it will say "Are you sure you want to completely remove the folder "iTunes"? Click on "Yes".
    Reboot!
Then go to the iTunes download page and voila! It should download iTunes without any problems... well it did for me.... Good luck!

    please help!

Unfortunately, these sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we need to hunt down a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for *at least version 3.0* of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any BonJour and iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes 9.2 again. Does the install go through properly this time?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • What version of iTunes can I download for Windows Vista, with a QuickTime player that won't crash Windows Explorer?

I have tried installing both iTunes 10.4.1 and iTunes 10.3.1 for 64-bit Windows Vista.  They both install well, but my Windows Explorer crashes as soon as I open either of them.  I have to 'hit the emergency brakes' and hold down the power button on my laptop to stop the meltdown.  After reading other people's threads, I realized that the problem is QuickTime 7.  I still need to find out, however, if there is a 64-bit Vista version of iTunes with QuickTime 6 or lower that can still be downloaded from the Apple website.  I really like iTunes, and I have done without for about two years now.  Please help!!!

6.2 isn't supported with the Clie. If the data is being lost inbetween syncs then here are a few tips to prevent data loss.
Never turn the computer off while Palm Desktop is running.
Don't leave the Palm Desktop open when it's not in use
Make sure that the Palm Desktop is closed with any security applications are running scans.

Yes.  Please give us something to go on other than a complete reinstall of Windows 7 (Microsoft's solution to the issue behind this cryptic error).

  • ITunes 8.1 won't install on Vista after uninstall

So I was trying to update my itunes and kept getting errors. I went on to uninstall it and reinstall which normally works. But this time around, I got some error messages and it won't install.
When it is installing, I get this message:
"An error occurred while attempting to create the directory: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\SyncServices\Schemas\iCal.syncshema\Contents\Resources\da.lproj"
I select retry in the window and it still doesn't work so I press cancel. Then it continues and terminates the install with this message:
"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2330."
It then proceeded to install quicktime with no problems so I'm quite puzzled on what I can do here. I just want to listen to music and my podcasts! If anyone can help me on this it would be greatly appreciated. I've looked through the forum and support things so I need some more guidance.
    Thanks,

  • ITunes 11.0 won't install correctly when I try to install it

So, I've had multiple problems with this now, first it wouldn't update and gave me an error message saying "Error writing to file:
C:\ProgramData\188F432-103A-4ffb-80F1-36B633C5C9E1\x86\x86\GEARAspiWDM.sys. Verify that you have access to that directory"
And at one point, I opened iTunes in the new form while that error message was still up and played a bit of music.
I exited the installer and opened iTunes again, this time it said that my Library file was "created in a newer version" so therefore wouldn't open.
So I uninstalled the original version and tried installing again. It didn't work and gave me the same message.
THEN, I went into the ProgramData folder and just deleted that file, then tried reinstalling. This time, the message it gave me was "An error occured while attempting to create the directory: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows"
And that folder I can't delete. So, I'm at an impass with iTunes.
I could just let it sit like that and not be able to sync my iPod or get help and I've chosen to let it sit 'till I get help.
Now, if an image is going to be helpful, I will provide one of the error.
So, I was trying to install the update...: Apple Support Communities
