ITunes 7 Album Art headaches

While I enjoy the improvements on iTunes (gapless tracks, Download art,and music/video seperation all nice features!), the art iTunes provides isn't as nice as some of what's online, and for whatever reason, iTunes 7 will NOT permit me to "Shift-Click" all the songs on an album and drag one image in the art box... I have to add 3rd party art to an album ONE SONG AT A TIME!!! Even if I try copying and pasting! This is a major step back functionality-wise...
I am assuming this is a bug that will be fixed, but if its some scheme to force me to stick to iTunes' art catalog, I call bull doodie on that!

All my albums are old an obscure (even from LPs). So I HAVE to make them all by scratch. Shift-selecting all songs in an album works for me. Make sure you are in the album window. Click on song one (do not let it play) then shift click on the last song of the album. Now hit Command-I. You should now be able to drag and drop the art onto the art box.

  • Itunes 12 album art no longer able to paste it in

Apple please return to copy and paste album art in iTunes.  This searching for a file to import in is really annoying.

    Works fine here.
The new iTunes 12 Get Info dialog lacks right-click context menus (at least for now) but it still accepts most standard keyboard shortcuts and drag & drop actions.
    Delete Artwork
On the artwork tab of Get Into, tap the image in question, use Backspace or Ctrl+X. Delete doesn't work.
Or, tap the image at the top left of Get Info, this time use Backspace or Delete, it is Ctrl+X that doesn't work.
    Add Artwork
Select artwork, press Ctrl+C to copy, tap the centre of the Artwork tab, press Ctrl+V to paste.
Or, select artwork, press Ctrl+C to copy, tap the small image area at the top left, press Ctrl+V to paste.
Or, you can drag & drop to, or sometimes from, the same locations.
You can also copy artwork from the Get Info dialog to Windows Explorer with the keyboard shortcuts.
If the source image is on a web page right-click and use Copy Image rather than copy. (With Chrome I get a one pixel wraparound so tend to go for a temporary local file copy anyway - not sure whose bug this is, but it isn't new.)
If you have multiple images embedded drag the one you want to be the primary artwork to the leftmost position.
    Replace/Remove All Artwork
The top left image box can be used to add or delete art from multiple tracks. In either case all existing artwork in all tracks is replaced/removed.
    Old Style Get Info Dialog
Select some items, right-click, hold down shift, then click Get Info from the context menu. (Use alt/option on a Mac)

  • When I preview a song in iTunes, the album art preview shows up blurry

So anytime I preview a song in iTunes store, whenever I click on the small album art icon (at the top) to bring up the smaller player, the album art shows up blurry.
Has been happening for the past three or four iTunes releases. How can I fix it?
When I purchase the song, the album art downloads just fine though. Funny thing is, if I preview a different song from the same album, the album art loads fine. Not sure whats going on.

Make sure that these two options in Edit > Preferences > Store are turned off:
Then exit iTunes and open it up again.  Your metadata entries should then be persistent - with these options checked iTunes will be comparing what you have with the information held in the iTunes Store, and will overwrite with the latter for Store purchases (and if you have iTunes Match).  If you have any iOS devices you should also turn off Show All Music under Settings > Music.

  • Changes made on my iPad do not appear when plugged into iTunes; missing album art on iPad.

If I make changes to the music on my iPad--i.e. delete songs/albums, add ratings, add a song to a playlist--when I plug my iPad in to view the contents in iTunes, none of these changes have been saved. The deleted music reappears, the ratings do not show up, and the new songs are not in the playlist.
Additionally, when I have my iPad plugged in to my Mac, all of my album art shows in iTunes. However, if I look at the music on my iPad by albums, much of my album art is missing.
    Any suggestions?

Visionplace, i have the issue where my ipad2 changes/edits to my current playlists are NOT synced up with my itunes 11 on my computer (Windows 7).  I have icloud and Itunes Match is turned on.  My settings are to auto-sync and i have ALL my music set to be synced, not just select playlists. (Note I have not tested whether new playlists will appear because i usually just edit my existing ones).
So whenever i make playlist changes on my ipad2 (e.g., add or delete songs), i see the changes correctly on my iphone 4, and my Apple TV within 15 minutes without taking any steps, but they do NOT appear on my itunes 11 on my computer (Windows 7).  The only way i have found to get the ipad2 playlist edits onto my itunes on my computer is to sync my iphone4 up with the computer. (My ipad changes are already on the iphone 4 automatically). My computer's itunes 11 CAN see the playlist edits i have made on the iphone4 (immediately), but not the ipad.  It *****, but it works for me.
For new music purchases (from itunes store) on my ipad2, the only way i can see them on my itunes 11 on the computer is to go to the store, and download them again. Otherwise, they will not appear.
Note - in another forum when i was researching this ipad sync issue, someone had stated that the ipad/computer sync is one way. (I.e., from computer-to-ipad only). If true, that would explain why the ipad edits and new music purchases dont show up in my computer itunes. However, the iphone sync must be two ways.

  • ITunes extracted album art file name oddity (Japanese characters)

I am on iTunes 10.6.3. After doing a clean install of Mountain Lion I have noticed that although the iTunes version has not changed some behavior is slightly different than when it was running under Snow Leopard.
Any time I drag album art from an album titled with Japanese characters out of the "Now Playing" pane in the lower left of the iTunes GUI the image file in Finder has been named with weird characters. I can successfully rename the file in Finder with the proper Japanese characters. Why is iTunes naming the image files incorrectly?
Here is an example of an album art image file both as it came from iTunes and after being renamed. The top one is the incorrectly titled file that came straight from iTunes.

    Try this...
btabz: My songs have artwork in iTunes, but it won't transfer to my iPod!
It is for a slightly different issue, but the instructions should work.
If those don't work, you may need to restore the iPod as the link says.

  • Itunes and album art

I recently started importing my cds to itunes. Then I used the 'Get Album Artwork'. it worked fine for all accept one album that it separated into 4 different albums with the same album artwork and 4 different album titles. Is there any easy, quick way to combine all the songs back into the appropriate album. Or do I have to delete the albums, then import the album again and manually add the album art?
    Thanks, Denise

When you say four different album titles, do you literally mean that each track has a different title...or just that the songs aren't grouped together?
If you're having trouble getting album tracks to group together, have a look at this document:

  • Itunes deleted album art from all tracks except the first from each album.

I spent so many hours adding the album art to every track of the 1100 albums on my ipod. And recently after connecting my ipod to itunes the artwork has been deleted from every track except the first of each album.
So i can still see all the albums in coverflow but when listening to individual tracks past track one the art disappears. Is there any way that i can get the art back on all my tracks without spending 100 hours on amazon?

  • ITunes store album art quality in iOS6

Hi guys, first post so bear with me,
I've recently updated my iPhone 4s with iOS6 to find out that the album art on the iTunes store is always on a 3G quality. For example when you go on the iTunes store via 3G you get a lower quailty image of album art compared to when you're on the store via WiFi the quality is crisp. This is on the album art/album banners etc. For some reason it is always on a 3G quality. I know it's not effecting me much but its nice to see a crisp imagine when I'm browsing through the iTunes store. This also happens on the App store.
I hope my question is clear enough and someone can answer my question.
    Thanks.

Thanks for your posts guys or girls I have found the solution and will work I promise it was to do with Kaspersky after all, Here is how I done it after alot of working out and restoring my laptop to factory settings, I reinstalled things slowly to work out which program was causing the issue and bingo it was Kaspersky after sometime researching the internet on how to do it i found the solution!
Right click Kaspersky icon in the bottom right hand corner of your system icons,
    goto settings
click the 4th tab (looks like a box)
    the tab "Threats and Exclusions"
then at the bottom under title "Exclusions" click settings
    then click tab "Trusted Applications"
    and add
    then applications
    then just type itunes
    under Apple Inc,
    click itunes then ok it,
then tick the box "do not scan network traffic"
then ok everything and back out.
I personally restarted my laptop and didnt test without restarting so up to you guys if you do or don't
tested itunes after restart and bingo problem solved.

  • ITunes' download album art work

recently, my iTunes started to ask me to go to the iTunes store to download album artworks. It does this in the form of an pop up menu every time I start iTunes and it is not proceeding forward the rest of the program unless I click OK or Cancel. I can't seem to find a way to turn this thing off.
I listen to music for the music, not a picture.
    can anyone help?

ITunes won't do it, but there are a number of third-party programs out there that will. I use one called "iTunes Catalog" which will go out to Amazon or Google and download album art.

  • ITunes 11 album art

How do I show album art at the bottom of the library column while viewing songs like I used to in iTunes 10.7?

They got rid of this feature that so many of us loved. Send apple feedback and tell them you want it back, if enough of us cause a ruckus they'll bring it back.

  • Does iTunes take album art with it from computer to computer?

I am going to transfer my entire iTunes library to a new computer in a few weeks. Will iTunes automatically take all my album art with it to the new computer, or will I have to have to find it all again?
I listen to mainly classical music, so iTunes has a hard time finding most of my album art. It was a painstaking process of searching amazon.com for hours to get most of the album covers...I'd hate to have to do it again.
Thanks in advance to anyone who has experience with this!

I'm resurrecting this old thread because the question wasn't answered and I face the same problem. I want to copy my music from my external HD to an internal HD and want the album artwork I've painstaking downloaded from Amazon and other sources (cduniverse, google image search, etc) to be preserved. By "album artwork", I mean that I've dragged the image into the album artwork box in the lower-left of the iTunes window - I haven't embedded it into each individual track's ID3 tag area.
Using "consolidate library" followed by an iTunes-initiated copy isn't what I want. Let me explain why.
Currently my large collection of MP3's is on an external H.D. but doesn't live in the iTunes folder. The top-level folders are -
    \iTunes
    \My Music\_A-D
    \My Music\_E-J
    \My Music\_M-R
    \My Music\_S-Z
    \My Music\CLASSICAL
    \My Music\SOUNDTRACKS
    \My Music\VARIOUS
... and under each top-level folder there are artist\album folders containing the actual music.
If I consolidate, everything will be merged into artist\album format under iTunes, which will me more of a pain to navigate outside of iTunes. Instead, I want to preserve the current \My Music structure.
Right now I keep the \iTunes folder and \My Music on the external HD which I mount as "T:" under Windows XP SP2 on my home PC, my laptop, or my office PC. That way iTunes works fine in all three places. But I'd like to copy the whole library onto the internal "E:" drive of my home machine or my office machine and have the library look like it does now, with artwork intact.
But I'm pretty sure if I just do the copy that I'll lose all the album artwork, since it must reference files on the external HD T:\[etc] explicitly, which won't exist when I copy the database to the internal HD E:\[etc] and eject the external HD.
Does anyone know how to do this? Are there 3rd-party tools which can re-reference the album artwork database before or after the copy?
    - Jim

  • ITunes loses album art

I have added a number of CDs to my library, and I added the album art at the same time, but the album art is now gone. This has happened a few times before. It is there when the art was added, and it stays for 2 or 3 more times that I run iTunes, but after that it's gone.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    TIA

I recently noticed the same thing on my PC. The album art was there and now it's not. And it seems to be very random in what it decides to delete...or I haven't discovered the pattern. Sometimes the entire album loses the art, other times just select songs.
Even when I try to re-import the art it doesn't always work.
Have you made in progress on this since you posted??

  • ITunes 6 - Album Art

The album art does not load into iTunes when I import a CD. Is there a setting I need to change? I can manually add album art but as you can imagine, that it a bit tedious.

    Jones Family,
A store bought CD does not contain album art. For that matter it doesn't contain track information either, but iTunes does a good job of gathering that information for you from CDDB.

You're on your own though with album art. You have to get that for yourself, manually.
There are some third party apps that can help with this.

I choose to do it myself. Here's a website that I use a lot:

  • FR & iTunes fetched album art

I've noticed that album art fetched by iTunes does not show up in Front Row. However, album art that I've embedded manually or w/ 3rd party s/w does show up. So does the iTunes not embed art it fetches itself? That seems kind of silly. Or am I missing setting?

Yes, I understand that. However, your album art is not acting the way it should. The only difference between your fetched art and mine is your third party program. If we knew what it was, we might be able to determine if any one else has encountered the same issue. All of my iTunes album art does show up in Front Row.
