Itunes 7 and skipping?

I have iTunes 7.1.1.5 and when I play cds the sound cracks or sounds like it is skipping. If I import the songs, everything is fine. If I play the CD with another program (windows Media Player, etc.) everything is fine. I've uninstalled and reinstalled itunes, uninstalled and reinstalled Quicktime, removed plugins, enable Maximum Audio Hardware Acceleration and done just about every other suggestion I have come across. I did try to reinstall an earlier version of iTunes but then it said that my music library couldn't be used because it is connected to a later version of iTunes. Is this a problem with itunes 7? Can I install an earlier version? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

You're correct about the problem...CD playback is the problem-imported tracks are fine.

  • Song stops before finishing playing in ITunes and skips to next song

I'm using ITunes on a Windows Vista 64-bit system. Occasionally, when a song is playing, it will stop before it finishes and skip to the next song. It seems to only happen with certain songs though. Very strange. Didn't happen in the past. Is it a bug in Itunes? Any ideas??

This is really getting annoying. I'm on the verge of giving up on iTunes, or at least giving up on iTunes 8. The first rule of business is to make it easy for your customers to give you money. iTunes Store is a classic example of that. The second rule of business is not to p*ss off your customers. Looks like Apple is falling down on this one.
New information since my last rant. I have another computer running iTunes 7.6.0.29. Songs that do not play to completion on iTunes 8, play just fine on this older version of iTunes.
Worse, this problem has infected my wife's iPod. Songs that iTunes 8 does not finish playing also do not finish playing on my wife's iPod Classic (Model MB029LL, Version 1.1.2 PC). The same bug appears to be in newer iPod software.
I have an old 20GB iPod Click Wheel (Version 3.1.1). The same song that fails to play properly on iTunes and the iPod Classic plays just fine on my iPod Click Wheel.
This problem (at least my problem) is obviously a regression. Apple please fix it!

  • Why won't my iPod work on iTunes or my computer?  It shows up (not on iTunes) and the iPod shows connected but it has to be "formatted." And why are half my songs unable to play on it anymore?  It just skips them!

I've read through several discussions and I've seen a lot of similar issues but none that were quite like mine.  Every time I plug my 3rd gen. iPod nano in it shows it connected on the iPod screen and iTunes opens up but the device does not show up in iTunes.  The icon on the iPod shows connected and gives the arrows circling showing syncing even though it still says connected.  But it won’t show up in iTunes.  It shows up on my windows computer but I can’t click it or make it do anything.  It keeps saying “You need to format the disk before you can do anything.”  And when I hit cancel it beeps and says "Location not available.  Dara error (cyclic redundancy check)."  As if I know what that means!!  And I have 800 songs on it but they aren’t all on my computer and some are on my parents’ computer but I can’t get to that one.  It shows it is a “FAT32” which I have no clue what that means but I’ve never noticed that before.
Windows "can't access the disk" and I don't know why.  It gives me that notification if I try to check the drive or disk or device for problems.  And if you click it on Windows it pops up a screen with formatting things (which I don't know anything about).  And then it closes and says that it CANNOT format the device.
The iPod works almost okay when it isn’t plugged in, but I’ve noticed that half my songs won’t play.  You click on it and it plays the next one in the album.  And it isn’t always the first song in an album but random songs.  And songs I listen to a lot.  You can’t go back (you can only go forward and you can’t skip over the ‘missing’ song) or even click to select those songs.  But other songs play normal, just not half of them that are on the iPod but all of a sudden no longer work.  And I don’t know why.  I have another 3rd gen. iPod nano that doesn’t have ANY of these problems.  It hooks up, it doesn’t need formatting, and all its songs play.  I don’t know what is wrong or what to do.  I’ve tried re-downloading iTunes and everything.  I don’t want to have to reset my iPod and lose everything.
I’ve tried locating the device in iTunes and it shows the iPod but it gives this weird symbol and I can’t select it.  It’s like a white box with a box that is outlined in blue with six random icons in the middle.   I’ve seen it before and it always means something is wrong or a file (which is where I have seen it before) is corrupted.  And like I said I have a second iPod nano of the same generation and it does not give this weird symbol.  Plus it connects just fine.  It’s this one iPod.
I don’t understand what is going on.  It worked just fine and then all of a sudden I noticed songs wouldn’t play so I went to plug it into iTunes and nothing has worked.  I’ve searched discussions and none of the tips help.  But I want my songs to play again and I want my iPod back.

  • I download exclusively from itunes and I have been having issues with the music stopping after about 25 seconds either skipping to the next song or just going silent and still moving as if it is playing? how do i fix this?

I have an ipod nano, classic and Iphone4s...i download itunes, it says it is completely downloaded, i go to play it either on my pc or on one of my devices and it plays about 24 seconds of the song and skips to the next song. Sometimes it continues to "play" as in the timer is still moving but there is no sound or picture...how do i fix this? It is really frustrating...i let it go with one or 2 songs but when it is everything I download any more I'm getting fed up. I tried going into the info on the song and options and making sure it didn't have the stop time changed (the solution that apple support gave me) Any solutions? I want to actually listen to the music I download!!!

  • I downloaded the latest version of iTunes and now ALL of my songs sounf d like skipping records.  How do I get rid of this or completely remove the new version that I downloaded???

I booted up my computer and opened up my usual shortcuts.  I got a message from iTunes that a new version was available and would I like to download it.  I clicked on "yes".  It took over 1/2 hour to download and now ALL of my songs sound like a skipping record or like they are tripping over themselves.  I uninstalled the ITunes and tried reinstalling my old version.  I've tried EVERYTHING I could think of to get my old version back but everytime I go through the download process I get a message saying that - the file "iTunes Library.itl "cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes.  I was finally able to download a version that will open but it has the same "skipping" problem.  How do I stop/fix this or COMPLETELY get rid of this version of iTunes and re-download what I had???  I'm REALLY distressed.      Jim

Usually, the exclamation mark tells you that the song was not where the program expected to find it. It may also mean that there was an error with the file itself.
If you click on the exclamation mark, it may give you a reason. You can also double click the file to make it play. If the file is not found, it will tell you. Just follow the prompts to look for the song again. It will ask you if you want to look for the other missing songs in the same folder. You can do it, but unfortunately, the last few updates have made the program blind to the songs that are there and you sometimes have to do the same process for each song.
If neither of these help, I would suggest starting from scratch and reinstalling iTunes. I have had to do that before. Do your best to back up the library and such first.
Sometimes a computer will rename a hard disk (Windows) and all the songs on that disk will be gone to iTunes because it will think it's looking in the right place. It can't recognize that the hard disk or partition has been renamed.
I know that this is a podcast, but the principle is the same. A dialogue box should pop up to tell you just what the problem is.
       I hope this helps!

  • ITunes 10.5 Stops Playing Some songs mid-song and skips to the next

I migrated a friend’s iTunes library from a Win Vistamachine to Windows 7 Home Premium. Not sure what version of iTunes he had onthe Vista setup, but it’s 10.5.1 on the new machine. In the process, I backedup the sizable (6,000+ songs) iTunes library to an external hard drive, andrestored it to the new Win7 machine.
Now about 10% of his songs will start playing and at randomtimes, will skip to the next song without completing.
I found a fix, but it’s pretty tedious – there’s got to be abetter way to fix this.  Here are thesteps when a song stops playing and jumps to the next:
    Locate     the song in Windows.
Copy     it to the desktop (or another safe spot)
Delete     the song from iTunes, selecting the option to remove it from the hard     drive.
Cut     the song from the desktop and paste it back in the folder where it came     from
In     iTunes:  File>Add Folder to     Library… Navigate to the folder and add it.
Once the song is added back to the library, it plays justfine.
This solution works for identified files. However, with6,000+ songs in a library and no way to determine which files are affected on amacro level, this really is not a solution.
There is no noticeable pattern. This seems to happen toabout 10% of the files in the library. One particular song (Foo Fighters:  The Pretender) was duplicated on the harddrive and in the iTunes library.  BOTHversions of the song stop playing with 0:21 remaining and skip to the nextsong.  However, another song in thelibrary stops playing at 1:01.
Some of the troubled files are .m4p, some are .mp3. Thefiles themselves are not corrupted.  Itested several in QuickTime and they played to the end. Additionally, as shownabove, when they are deleted from the library and restored they play just fine.
I have deleted the com.apple.iTunes.plist as suggested inother articles, but this did not help.
    Any help is appreciated.

  • Songs skipping like scratched cd on iTunes and MacBook pro

Posted this on iTunes and no response. I would really appreciate a reply from Apple as I not only paid loads for my MacBook, but crowed like mad how much better the Mac would be than a PC for doing music live. I am seriously disappointed and a bit embarrassed.
Hi, I use my MacBook pro to play backing tracks for my live show. I am working in Greece in the outdoors at night. Since the beginning of the summer iTunes has been skipping like mad during gigs Not Good. I don't remember when I upgraded my iTunes but don't recall having the problem last year when I started using the MacBook. I have searched the net and have found many a kindred soul suffering skipping songs.
    What gives?
    What I have tried:
1- I have disabled the sudden movenmt sensor thinking it might be a Bass Response issue. However, still does it.
2- bought a DJ rack to elevate the computer thinking it might be a heat issue. Nope.
3- got rid of all start up items, closed airport, netshred, etc.
4- changed the setting on Perian from Dolby stereo to stereo, and then I uninstalled it. Nope
5- I use the apogee duet live and I get skips. Tried it without the duet and it's worse.
    What I am running-
    MacBook Pro
    Lion X 10.7.4
Processor- 2.66 Ghz Intel Core i7
    Memory- 8GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    1TB SATA HD
I hope someone can help. I spent a lot of money for my MacBook and don't want to go back to the PC.
    Thanks
    [email protected]
P.S. I have upgraded, as well, to the latest iTunes.

    Hi, Clinton,
Now I think that I have officially tried everything short of taking out the HD and replacing it..
I have used the removable drive and still got the problem.. However, I noticed that the skipping only happens on my Backing Tracks and the same ones, which then told me that the tracks became corrupted. So I re-encoded 2 of the tracks using Garageband and Others I just replaced with new versions..
It worked great for 2 gigs and I was chuffed to bits.. However, I needed the third gig to make it a go and then BLAMMO one of the re-encoded songs skips... My 4th gig I get a new addition to the skipping...
Something is wrong and it is doing my head in.. Do you have any other suggestions aside from going back to my Cheapie Windows Notebook that never skipped?

  • 4 albums purchased from iTunes yesterday have songs not playing all the way through. They play for a period of time and skip to the next song. Everytime they are played. Can anyone help?

Some songs I purchased last night are not playing all the way through. Several songs from the 4 albums I purchased play for a period of time then just skip to the next song. The songs that do this, do it everytime they are played at the exact same spot. The songs that are affected skip to the next on iTunes on my PC which is updated to the most current iTunes and my 160gb iPod classic. Everytime they are played at the exact same spot. However on my other device, iPhone 4s all songs play just fine. I have almost 7,000 songs on my iPod and this has never happened before and I have played it awhile since downloading those albums yesterday. This is only happening with the albums purchased yesterday. Can anyone help me figure out what is wrong?

I'm having the same issue with a few songs I just downloaded. It skips randomly in the middle of the song.

  • ITunes keeps skipping songs on my iPhone and iPad

This is a problem as many have reported. I have about 4500 songs on iMac that are combination of my own CD's and purchased music from iTunes. I have several dozen songs or more that are skipped on both my iPhone 5 and iPad air. I have been to two different genius bars to try to rectify this problem to no avail. For instance I have the CD Stage Fright by The Band. Even though on both my both my phone and iPad it shows the songs, song 1,2,3 and 5 won't play. I have tried everything. I have turned off iTunes match on my iMac. Turned off iMatch on my phone, deleted the music on the phone. I then turned iTunes match back on my iMac to refresh. Turned on iMatch on the phone. Now my entire library of songs are in the iCloud. I proceeded to download the Stage Fright album on the phone and once again the 4 songs will not play while the other 6 songs from the album will. This isn't a case where iTunes doesn't sell the album. They do and every song is available for purchase. Each one of the four songs plays perfectly on my iMac. I have never done an exact count of the songs that won't play on my iPhone or iMac. That would involve trying to listen to everyone of the 4500 songs. Another CD in particular is the Power and Glory from NFL Films, the music of Sam Spence.
Some of the clips are spoken tracks and some are music. I would say about 5 or 6 tracks will not play but get skipped over.
There is some glitch from the various updates of iTunes and iMatch over the last couple of years that have caused this. I could understand if tracks were somehow corrupted but they are not. It varies from artist to artist and album to album. Sometimes it is only one song on a particular CD.
I am purchasing the iPhone 6 next week. If no one can come up with solution can someone tell me how do a hard sync of my music from iMac to my iPhone. When you do a hard sync to back up with phone with the cable to mac when you click on music it says your songs are in the iCloud. When I restore my new phone from back up how would one do the hard sync where each of the 4500 songs are uploaded to phone. I know this is a long process as this is what everyone did before iMatch.

Since this has been posted I guess no one has a solution. The only other reply is someone else had the same problem. Apple doesn't care because they would prefer their solution which is to buy the tracks from them and not load your own CD's on iTunes. Somewhere in the cloud the tracks that don't play on my iPhone are sitting there. Makes absolutely no sense that the other uploaded tracks work fine. I guess I'm going to have to test all 4500 tracks to get the exact count and then go over the Apple store to see if they can submit this to a software engineer at the Apple campus to find an answer.

all over songs, uploaded from cd's on my laptop and dragged into itunes will no longer play, a red circle with a red square in the middle appears and skips the track.
anybody know why Itunes / iP5 will no longer play all tracks, has worked for years, only stopped with the latest itunes update.

    Hey Kelsieee,
First, I would try to resolve the issue with the ! in a circle that you're seeing in iTunes. There's some steps in the following article that go over what that ! usually means and how to fix it:

  • IPod classic hard drive needle sometimes skips (Red X).  When it doesn't and seems to power on normally, I start to restore it in Itunes and then it starts to skip again with the Red X on the screen.

iPod classic hard drive needle sometimes skips (Red X). When it doesn't and seems to power on normally, I start to restore it in Itunes and then it starts to skip again with the Red X on the screen.  One time I was able to run the disk utility in time and reformat the hard drive, but the red x ended up appearing again and the hard drive started skipping again.
Is there anything I can do besides get a new hard drive?
P.S. I have also tried the banging on palm/floor trick and it hasn't worked yet for me.

  • ITunes movie freezes and skips with VGA out to projector

    Hi,
I have rented several movies on iTunes and can watch them onscreen no problem. When I used the VGA dongle to source the screen to an external projector, however, the movie gradually began to skip and freeze, with up to half a second pause between frame updates. Rebooting did not change this; however, after pulling out the adapter and just watching it onscreen, the movie was fine.
Has anyone else had this problem? And any idea what I can do about it?

this is probably because of the low processor, and integrated graphics. the Macbook pro has a graphics card that helps process the images, while the MBA relies on the processor to control graphics.
The video isn't smooth because of the slow processor.

  • ITunes songs skip and pause the abruptly stop and skip to another song

Please help. I have had my macbook for just under two weeks and earlier this evening my itunes has stopped working properly. Every song i play it skips and pauses much like a cd, and then eventually stops abrubtly mid song and skips to another. Please help me to resolve this issue.
    Thanks

I just bought a new MacBook and am having the same problem with certain songs. It'll pause at the same point each time, then jump to the next song.

  • Itunes distortion and skipping

    Hi,
I have used itunes for several years now and have about 10k tracks on the HTPC. last week i discovered 80%+ of all my tracks were skipping and really distorted. I was running version 7. i upgraded to version 8 with no luck. i also downgraded to version 6 and deleted all my itunes library information this still has not helped. i have used an advanced uninstaller to remove all Itunes and quick time components and this still is not helping. All the tracks run perfectly in WMP and Real player and this is driving me insane. anyone got a a fix for this ?
PS I have 2.5 gig of ram and an athlon 64bit processor which is more than adequate for itunes.

    Here's some help:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1362
Some PC's may encounter problems if 'Sound Enhancer' is enabled. A few users have also encountered problems with their sound if they have the Equalizer ON.
"Some PC audio hardware has audio-enhancing effects that can conflict with iTunes' Sound Enhancer feature. To resolve these conflicts, do one of the following:
Turn off the effects for your PC's audio hardware using the configuration software that came with your hardware.
Disable the Sound Enhancer feature in iTunes:
    Open iTunes.
    Click Edit > Preferences
    Click the Playback tab.
    Deselect Sound Enhancer."

Recently I added wave files of music my friend created to my itunes. Ever since I did this, those songs play correctly, but every other song in my itunes have popping noises and skipping sounds. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this problem?
    Thanks a lot!!

    hiya!
first let's check through the possibilities in this document. if you've got an itunes 5.0.x or 6.0.x, you'll need to check your QT 7 sound out settings.
