ITunes 7 and USB Harddrive issue
Everytime I install the new version of iTunes, it drops my USB Harddrive from the computer. The system thinks the drive is empty, yet all my folders are there, just no files. I do a system restore and no iTunes, but I can then see everything on the harddrive. What is causing this? I get an error that says failed to write to drive G: after the install which G: is the USB harddrive. Never had this issue before the update, and can't get back to version 6 now. So of course I can't update my ipod now.
Similar problem - when I upgraded to iTunes 7.0.2.16, my USB connected camera, my pen drives, and my iPod nano all stopped working.
I don't want to re-install my OS there has to be a reason

I tried connecting to iTunes and neither the PC nor iTunes recognizes the device. I went through all the troubleshooting on the Apple website for this issue and nothing worked. I would hate to have lost all my info, especially contacts and calendar items since I have no idea what was backed up prior to the phone getting locked on this screen. I've been told that my only option is to go to the phone carrier and they will reset it for me, but that means it will wipe out all the info.
I hope someone has a fix other than that one. -

navinIf this a new iPad? You need to connect your iPad to your computer via iTunes to set it up. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes on your computer.

Just installed 7.02 and only get itunes icon and usb cord. Why should I have to connect to itunes ? If I do, will I lose all of my photos ? Shouldn't I get free service for their software problem ?
You don't have to update to 7.02 if you don't want to, though this update does fix a few glitches in 7.0.
Before updating, you should always back up your data - it's standard practice. I've never lost pictures in an iTunes update.
Perhaps you could elaborate on the comment, "Just installed 7.02 and only got itunes icon and usb cord." What problem are you having, exactly.
Your next question confuses me. "Shouldn't I get free service for their software problem ?." What free service were you looking for? You can always go to your local Apple store for help, or ask questions here for free. -

As an update i uninstalled and reinstalled all ipod updates and Itunes completely. Still only have the folder with exclmation point problem. I have followed all of Apple Ipods websites support tips. no luck..

Turn it off by holding home+ power button untill the screen goes black ( as soon as it goes black, release the buttons).. This might take some practice , so dont worry if on the first try your phone reboots and goes to itunes screen again.
Now, with your phone powered off, enter DFU mode:
Method 1)
Attach the phone to the pc
Turn the phone off
Hold power and home together for *exactly* 10 seconds
Release power but keep holding home until the pc beeps as a USB device is recognized.
Whilist in dfu mode, itunes will recognize the device and it will ask you if you wish to restore it. Simply click restore, and the restoring proces will begin.
This will hopefully fix your iphone.

if it does not let you restore plug in to youre computer or mac and hold down both home and power button until the computer says found restore for iphone and restore

It helped earlier but it has come back again. I don't know what to do. I tried what you said earlier but this time even this is not working either. And quite intrestingly my phone won't turn off. I turn it off, it goes off and then restarts on its own and then keep giving the same message again and again.
Could it be a charging cable, is there any chance that the cable which was working fine one day could turn to be "incompatible" with iphone the other day????????

I just tried updating the most recent software on my 3GS (on my Mac) but it said the updated on my phone failed. Now my phone is frozen and only showing the itunes logo and USB cable. When I connect to the USB lead, its says: iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes.
Have I lost all the data on my phone?
What should I do?

iYou are in Recovery Mode. Follow the instructions below to recover your iPad.
1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button.
5. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad. Data will be lost. -
