Itunes 7- can two different ipods run on same itunes?

i have a 30gb ipod video and my husband has a nano. i have itunes on my computer twice in different user accounts for our ipods but since installing the new itunes 7 my husbands itunes will not open it gives me an error message. i uninstalled his itunes and reinstalled but then i couldnt open my itunes. i reinstalled itunes 7 and now i am back to my original problem.
Can i have my ipod and my husbands nano run from the same itunes? will my library be added to his nano and will his nano library be added to my itunes? please help this is frustrating me.

tean5289,
This article addresses using multiple iPods on the same computer.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300432
Method Two in the article is the method my wife and I have used in the past. I had mine set up to sync my playlists, plus the recently added playlist. That way if she added any music, I had 2 weeks that it would show up on my iPod, and give me time to move the song to one of my own playlists.
i have turned the fast switch for the user accounts
off. when i log into my husbands user account and
open his itunes it still tells me that it cannot be
opened an unknown error has occured.
anyone know a soloution? hence my original question
can ipod video and nano run from one itunes library?

  • Can I run two different ipods from the same laptop?

Hi, I am very new to all this. Is it possible to have two different ipods running from itunes on the same computer. If it is how do I separate them so when I connect and ipod it doesn't sync both lots of music.
    Please Help me
    Thanks
    Hoolie

I'm currently syncing three iPods to the same library. iTunes will recognize each iPod as a unique device. My preferred method of managing my iPods is "Sync Selected Playlists". This allows me the convinience of syncing (and all my ratings, playcounts and last played sync) while still being able to control what goes on each iPod. You can set your preferences for each iPod. You could managage one manually and sync the other. Whatever works best for you.

You can use the same apple id for two separate phoones to share apps/music, however you would need a separate apple id for both phone for imessage/facetime/icloud.

Can two different Apple ID's share itunes content? If so , how do i set this up?

    Hello mqg13,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
How do you mean "share iTunes content?" You are able to purchase and download from one Apple ID on multiple devices, simply follow the steps in the article below:

  • I am trying to store music for two different iPods on the same computer, against two different Apple IDs. When I try and download content from the Cloud I get an error message?

I am trying to store music for two different iPods on the same Windows 8 computer, and when I try and download content from the Cloud I get an error message. Is it possible to have two different Apple IDs on the same computer?

Unfortunately you've discovered too late how important it is to maintain an up-to-date backup of your iTunes library (and all other data of value).  You could, before wiping the drive, have considered making use of a commercial data recovery service that could (albeit at considerable cost) have extracted your library from the hard disk, even if virus infected.
In the absence of that option, you will need to restore the content of your library from its original sources:
Depending on your location, you may be able to re-download any iTunes Store purchases that are still available on the Store
Likewise, most digital purchases from Amazon (including auto-rip copies of purchased CDs) should be available from the Amazon Cloud and via the Amazon Music application - the same may be true of other commercial sources for digital downloads
Content imported from your CDs will have to imported again
The specific situation that you describe regarding the music imported from your friend's external HDD suggests that either the source is badly organized and/or originates from a source other than iTunes (other media players may use alternative tags for information like artist, title, album, etc. that are not wholly consistent with how iTunes handle these).  Without details of the issues you're seeing it is difficult to suggest a remedy other than going through the media album-by-album, track-by-track, and correcting the inconsistencies.
In the absence of a backup or access to the original library data there is no option other than painstakingly recreating your library as described above.  As you do so, you'll now realize how important creating and maintaining backups are - in my case I have at all times three separate duplicates of my library, in two different locations, where none is ever more than a week old compared to the content of my master library.

  • HT1203 how do I share some music on same itunes account without changing music using same itunes account, but two different ipod touches

I need to know how to stop losing / adding music I like/ dont like to my and my brothers ipod.  I gave him my older ipod(2nd Gen) with music on it already. I bought a ipod (3rd Gen) also. Both devices are registered to me; but I gave my brother the older one.  Now when either of us add / delete music it affects both ipods when either one on us sync.  We use the same computor(windiws7), he uses his own account on the computor, butit accesses the same itune/ library.  How can we split the itunes music between the two ipods?

    Hi gail,
Thanks for the quick reply! The music part makes sense, good to know I don't have to duplicate the lot. The big question stillr emains as to whether iTunes can cope with two different iPhones, running different versions of the iOS, and therefore different app versions.
Currently all the apps in iTunes are years old, and many haven't updated in months (years?) because the 3G is running iOS 4.2.1 (and can't be upgraded). Many of these have since been updated in the iTunes store (for the various incarnations of iPhone since) and the old versions that my 3G requires have been replaced.
I'm worried that syncing the 4S running iOS 5, and running the most recent updates for same apps, will cause iTunes to overwrite the old 3G compatible ones when I sync. Unless iTunes is smart enough to know which version of the app is for which OS, without updating the legacy version when I update the apps on the 4S?
You guys shouldn't face that problem, as iPad and iPhone apps don't replace each other (I believe? Not sure about this) as new updates are released for each app, you'd have a copy for each device (for example Evernote for iPad, and Evernote for iPhone). I can't figure out if iTunes can handle keeping separate iPhone versions for Evernote iOS 4.2.1 and Evernote for iOS 5. My gut feeling is no, but I want to amke sure before I lose the legacy versions of each app.
Of course, maybe I'm just paranoid and iTunes is in fact perfectly capable of keeping old and new apps in the same library?
    Cheers

  • HT204053 Two different ipods connected to one itunes account

I have two ipods (for two members of the family) on one account, how can I switch and have two ipods on two different accounts on one same computer?

    Hello Philgeorge1,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
From your post I understand that you want to create a new Apple ID for your wife, and disassociate your Apple ID from her devices.  To first create an Apple ID please see the article below.
iTunes: How to set up an Apple ID within iTunes
Next, to disassociate an Apple ID from a device see the following article.
iTunes Store: Associating a device or computer to your Apple ID
Once everything is created, she will just need to sign out of your Apple ID on both the computer and iPhone, and then log in with her new Apple ID.
    Cheers,
    Alex H.

  • Can I have 2 different IPods on the same itunes account and computer?

    I have a nano gen. 4 and a new nano 7.
Can I have them both on my itunes account and computer?
    thanks

Yes. You can easily have multiple iPods on the same iTunes account on the same computer. Each iPod will show up with its name when plugged in, and each iPod can have its own set of preferences (i.e., what music, videos, photos, audiobooks, etc. to sync).
What you can't do easily is use the same iPod on multiple computers with different instances of iTunes. One instance of iTunes has to be "in charge" of an iPod.

  • How can two apple id,s use same itunes software on same computer, how can two apple id,s use same itunes software on same computer

how can two family members use same itunes download with two different apple id's? how do you change user within itunes?

Both accounts can be authorised on the same iTunes (Store > Authprise This Computer), but only one account can be signed in at a time for downloading or purchasing content - if you want to purchase or download with the other id then you'll need to sign out of the current one (Store > Sign Out) and then sign in with the other one (Store > Sign In)
You can also have your own separate iTunes libraries on the same computer : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495

  • HT202213 can two apple ids use the same itunes account?

I'm pretty new to apple products and have an itunes question. My husband and I just bought iPhones and have separate apple id's. We will also using an iPod. Is it possible to use itunes with both id's? Is there any way to share the files between both of us?

If you want to share a single AppleID with a single iTunes Library, then simply sync both devices to that iTunes library using the same user account.
If you want to sync two AppleIDs to one iTunes library, in iTunes on the computer, login and authorize each AppleID, then sync the devices to that common iTunes library in the same user account.
You do not do anything on the device being sync'd itself - it all has to do with how iTunes that you are syncing to is set up and what AppleIDs are authorized there.  You can sync multiple devices to iTunes, just be sure that each device gets a unique device name in the iTunes sidebar.
To then use unique AppleIDs for iCloud and iMessage on a iOS device, first, make an iCloud account with the AppleID you want to use (go to http://www.iCloud.com), then set up that iCloud account on the device with that ID and password.  In iMessage, just log out with whatever AppleID you are using now, log in with the new AppleID and it will reauthorize, now linking that device with the new iMessage account just created with that AppleID (your iMessage primary account ID is always the AppleID used to initially create and verify the iMessage account).

  • How do I use 2 different ipods on the same itunes sofyware

I have a 5th generation (I think) ( plays videos and is 60g.This is the software that is installed on computer. My friends has a nano but no cumputer. Can I use the same software to put songs on her nano. Will her nano work on my software ,will it screw things up, what are the risks involved

so it's ok for you and your wife to share but not kiser and his friend with no computer ?
    Correct.
seems weird that 2 people cannot share a computer, what about roomates and 1 computer ?
No one is saying they can't share a computer. I'm saying they can't share copyrighted material such as digital music on a portable device.
so if anyone wants to buy an ipod they have to go out and buy a computer ????????
Not at all. They can buy the iPod and just look at it.
They could also use a family member's computer, or a friend's computer IF THEY PUT THEIR OWN MUSIC ON IT. If they own a CD, there's nothing wrong with bringing that to a friend or family member's computer and using that machine to get the CD put on their iPod.
As long as no one else but the owner of the CD puts a copy of their music on their player... no problem.
It's quite simple. You can only have music on your iPod which you presently own the original media for (CD, Record, etc.), legally purchased iTunes Music Store track, other legally purchased digital media.

  • Having the same itunes library for two different users on the same computer

ok guys i've looked at the previous topics and replies to this subject. None of these seem to work for me with itunes 7. When I go to itunes and edit-preferences-advanced-change, the only folders that are recognized is all of my personal folders and none of my shared folders with my other user. Please tell me how to do this! i need step by step instructions please--I am new to itunes

i seen that link on another discussion. I have tried it and that does not work. I transferred the itunes music folder (not the others per the directions) to my shared folder. When I go to preferences-change, my shared folder isn't one of the folders to pick from. When i moved the itunes music folder to the shared folder--another empty itunes music folder is created. is there another way?

  • TA38325 how can two different actions have the same shortcut!?

deleting the master and deleting a version can be both achieved by command-delete (this is how its shown in the apple support documents!). HOW is that possible. How is the system suppose to realize which of the two options I have in mind?

The document cited -- TA38325 -- is wrong (afaict).  There is no shortcut for "File➞Delete Original Image and All Versions".  You can confirm this by checking the shortcuts listed on your File menu, as well as by searching the Commands dialog for "delete".
The article has been archived (it will not be updated).  As it was updated fairly recently (Feb 2012), it would be good if you'd file a report with Apple via "Aperture➞Provide Aperture Feedback"
    Good catch, though.
