ITunes 7 - "Cannot Update" Message

I updated to iTunes 7 and everything seems to be okay. However, the message: "The iPod cannot be updated. The required file is in use." repeatedly pops up with the playing of almost every song. It's nothing major but an annoyance. Any quick remedies?

Well, solved it for me, at least.
The culprit was Norton Auto-Protect. After files are copeid to the ipod, Norton goes to work int he background and scans files that itunes wants to keep working with. Hence files in use.
Solution - add your ipod(s) to auto-protect's Safe Zone - "scan everywhere EXCEPT" and then add your ipod to the list (mount the ipod, then jus tselect it from the list when you Add... a device)
Did that to both ipods and have no problems since. (and the "cannot eject" problem also went away.

  • I updated iTunes from the update message and now my Windows computer (at work- I use Mac at home) keeps sending me error messages about MobileMe and iTunes. It indicates a .dll error but I can't find any such file. I tried removing the entire ITunes app.

I downloaded an update to my iTunes app on my work Windows computer and now I am constantly getting error messages about MobileMe, when I download a webpage and marked slowness of my Outlook application. I tried removing iTunes and reloading directly from the Apple site, but no change. One of my peers is having the same issue and messages.
    Any suggestions?

  • Need to update iTunes but cannot updat to OS X 10.5 from OS X 10.4.11.  How do I do this?

Need. Help.  How do I update to OS X 10.5

To upgrade to Leopard 10.5, you need to buy it.  Call the Apple online store, in the US, at 800-MY-APPLE. As of a few weeks ago, they still had some 10.5 Leopard in stock. If they are out of stock, http://www.hardcoremac.com has new unopened Apple software, including Leopard.
If you have an Intel-based iMac, that meets the requirements below, you could probably go to 10.6 Snow Leopard, instead of Leopard.  Snow Leopard requires:
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
Snow Leopard can be ordered through the online Apple Store at, in the US: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDAzOA

I cannot update from OS X 10.9.4 t0 10.9.5> Whenever I try I get the following message: File couldn't be installed error (513) and something about not having the proper permission.  Under the Macintosh HD sharing and permissions settings I have customized the settings so that (Me) has read and write permission followed by the system with read and write permission, wheel and everyone have Read permissions.
I have no problems updating apps such as Adobe CC or iTunes but cannot update the operating system, can someone help me? Thanks.

    1. Restart the computer in safe mode. Certain caches maintained by the system will be rebuilt.
Safe mode is much slower to start up than normal. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
When the login screen appears, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and test. There's no need to log in while in safe mode.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t start in safe mode. In that case, go to Step 2.
If there's no change after taking this step, continue.
    2. Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /var/folders
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "folders" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • INTERESTING iTUNE CHECK UPDATE MESSAGE!!!

Every week, on the date the iTune Check for Update Message says check for update a week from now or the next subsequent Friday.
Today, when I checked, since it had always said check on the next Friday, if no update was available I would have expected it to suggest to me to check again on 8/24.
Lo and behold this time it said check on 8/18.
Could this be a hint of something to come on Saturday, 8/18.
    I hope!

interesting.....my iTunes last did a software update check on the 8/15 and is saying it will check again on 8/22. That is interesting though that your's is checking automatically only 2 days later. I hope you're right, however, i was thinking. When Apple does choose to come out with the "huge" update everyone's all hyped up about, won't they market these new features: rather than show the same, "you'd be surprised what you'll find on your iphone" adds. If I was, lets say, Steve Jobs, I would probably come out with new pre-updated iPhones on the shelves as well as a whole line of new "coming soon" kind of commercials. Why not create another hype about the same product to boost sales. Rather than surprise us randomly on an unannounced date. Idk though. Just rambling

  • Cannot update iphone4..it says there is no connection?

i am online and have updated itunes but cannot update my iphone...i dont know what else i need to do. i have updated my phone before.

    Hi..
Installing the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo reinstalls the App Store for you. It's ok to do this even though you are already running v10.6.8
Restart your Mac after the combo is installed. Then try the App Store.
If that didn't help, if you have anti virus software installed, you need to disable that. And third party apps such as Little Snitch can prevent access to the App Store as well.

Try updating your iTunes using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer file downloaded from the Apple website:

  • Recently I updated my iTunes account, but there was an error during installation.  Now I cannot open iTunes as an error message appears.  If I delete iTunes from my laptop then reinstall, will I still have access to all my music etc?

The reason why I ask, is because I have another laptop which I then installed iTunes on (this was to overcome the issue of the error message and reduce the risk of losing my music etc. on my first laptop).  I cannot see any of my music on the second laptop, even when I attach my iPod.  I authorised the second laptop to link but as I cannot open iTunes on my first laptop, I cannot access my music.  I'm assuming  iTunes accounts are only stored on individual laptops/PCs and cannot be accessed remotely??  Or am I doing something wrong?  I'm not sure what I can do.

Your iTunes library, media, playlists, and iOS device backups are safe. Please visitTroubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for details. The steps in the second box should get iTunes back on track.
I don't make any use of the homesharing feature so I can't really comment on it, but if you want to change which computer you use to manage your devices see this migrate iTunes library post.

    Hi there Br0x,
You may want to try rebuilding the iTunes library as an initial troubleshooting step. Take a look at the article below for more information.
