ITunes 7 causing QuickTime problem???

I am running Windows XP & updated to iTunes 7 as I have just purchased a new iPod. Not sure if this is what has caused my problem but... Now I notice my QuickTime videos (purchased as well as shot with my digital camera) which previously played perfectly show no video at all, just a continual solid color. Audio is still fine. I visited the QuickTime site which indicated QT was properly installed, but I reinstalled to see if that would fix the problem. Same result, still no video. Other video types such as Real Player still play fine. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any advice. Dick in Tucson

Dick,
Not sure if this is related, but the new version of quicktime seems to cause iphoto (mac's photo program) to quit.....go figure???
Looking at some threads in the iphoto discussion area reveals some bugs with the new version of quicktime.
Since I am mainly interested in photos, I will try to re-install an earlier version of quicktime to see if that helps any.
It seems like apple needs to do something about this new version.

• ITunes 8 causing big problems

iTunes 8 has messed up my computer. I cannot sync. When I plug my ipod in while computer is running, it crashes my system. After the system reboots my ipod is recognized by the computer but not by itunes. Therefore, it won't sync.
But even worse than that I can no longer sync my smartphone. I get the same recognition problem. The computer "sees" the phone, but the software doesn't.
Can anyone help?

256*256*256 is fine, it will fit into an int, since its < 2^31 -1
However, because int is signed, the most you could squeeze into it is 2^31 - 1.
Which is 128 * 256^3 -1.
You're multiplying 256^3 by 212. Java evaluates the right hand side of the expression, sees that everything is of type int and so assigns the result to an int, thus causing overflow. This overflowed negative number is then assigned to y, giving you your strange result.

• Why is previewing songs in the iTunes Store causing a problem for me?

I don't have a problem playing music in my iTunes library or navigating around it, my problem is in the iTunes Store. If I select 'See All >' after searching for something in particlar then select a song and start scrolling down the page it becomes unresponsive. The 'time elapsed' freezes but the music keeps playing and I can move my cursor around the page but the page itself is at best unbelievably slow to respond and at worst completely unusable until the preview ends. The CPU usage rises to around 30% and stays at about that, fluctuating slightly, until the music stops. I've tried uninstalling iTunes and the programs that come with it and reinstalling them all but that was a waste of time.

Hello dazw724,
Thank you for providing the details of when iTunes becomes unresponsive. I found an article with steps you can take to isolate and troubleshoot an issue like this:

• Mac: Using iTunes 8.02 Quicktime Problem

I'm using iTunes 8.02 and it will not launch. It says I need Quicktime 7.3 or newer.
I have Quicktime 7.5.5 and even upgraded to QT Pro. I've re-installed iTunes.
Still doesn't work. Help.

Hi, I'm new to iTunes and apple, but this is happening to me too! I've got iTunes 8 and whenever I run it, my wireless connection drops (disables itself) and cannot be restarted without rebooting the machine. Did you manage to find an answer?

• Itunes update causing weird problem for apple tv streaming songs

In itunes 10.5 when I choose apple tv as the external speaker and send songs through it plays the song and displays the cover of the album, title, song, name, and artist on the tv screen. When I updated to 10.5.1 it does the same except that after the first song the cd cover is one behind what is playing. For the sake of clarity, say I start the streaming songs on random play. The first three songs might be "Misty" by Kate Bush, "Rolling Along" by Lucinda Williams, and then "The Foggy Foggy Dew" by Greg Brown. When the first song plays it will be correct. "Misty" will be playing, Kate Bush will be displayed as the artist and the cover of the Kate Bush album will be showing. But when the next song comes on it will be playing "Rolling Along", Lucinda Williams will be displayed as the artist but the Kate Bush album cover will be displayed. Then the next song comes on "The Foggy Foggy Dew" will be playing, Greg Brown will be displayed as the artist but the Lucinda Wililams cover will be displayed. And so on.
I've experimented with it and feel certain it is the itunes update. I still have version 10.5 on my laptop and that is working normally. It is only the computer that I updated to 10.5.1 on that his having this weird thing occur.
Any ideas?

I have the exact same problem. Thanks for describing it so accurately. My Apple TV underwent a software update last evening, but the problem remains. Will be anxious to know when a fix has been applied.

• Can't install Itunes due to Quicktime problems

I have tried to install Itunes a few times, but every time I do I receive this error message, 'A newer version of Quicktime is already installed. This installation cannot proceed while the newer version of Quicktime is installed".
I have uninstalled Quicktime and searched through my computer for other quicktime files and removed them but still keep getting this message. Is there something that I'm not doing?

You could try an installer cleanup with the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility.
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
Then you should find the program in All Programs (or the equivalent in Vista).
Remove any references to QUicktime. Sometime you find a blank entry or one with just a version number.
Are you installing the latest versions of iTunes and Quicktime?

• Itunes Updates cause album problems

Why is it when you update your itunes library, it doubles up all the album songs so you have to spend an eternity deleting all the doubled songs because it uses twice the memory.
Any help would greatly be appreciated as this is very annoying and totally unnecessary.

I had posted in the printing forum, but no one responded. Your post was far more helpful than anything I've seen. I wasn't aware that the security updates messed with the printer drivers, which is a bit frustrating.
I will see what I can find.
Thanks
That last security update enforced already-existing security police, called PIE as in Apple PIE
It stands for "Position-Independent Executables" which makes apps begin in different places in RAM each time the start so a hacker can't easily find it. Older software that is not written/compiled to use this feature will now not work or at least not work correctly. Leopard has always had PIE, and to give SW vendors some time to update, did not enforce it until this latest update.
My Epson printers and scanner continue to work properly. Updating your drivers/software will most likely solve your problem.
Maybe this forum is the best place for printer answers ????

• Could you please take my three ibooks, Foreign Matter, Total Moisture and The Cad, off your site? They're causing me problems.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
This doesn't mean I don't love you, but could you please take my three ibooks off your site? I'm engaged in a promotion program with Amazon, and the books' availability on iTunes is causing me problems.
I had thought this was taken care of weeks ago, when I changed my arrangement with Smashwords, through whom the books were sent to you, but they're still for sale:
Foreign Matter is still at itunes.apple.com/us/book/foreign-matter-in-trouble/id445211125?mt=11;
Total Moisture is still at itunes.apple.com/us/book/total-moisture/id471795672?mt=11; and
The Cad is still at itunes.apple.com/us/book/the-cad/id476426186?mt=11.
I'd be so grateful if you could eliminate them from your site.
Happy thoughts,

• Help: iTunes and Quicktime problems

Hello
I have read so many topics similar to this and followed the advice there but no luck. So i am on my knees with what to do. I miss iTunes!
When the latest update came out, i updated it and after the install i could not open iTuens. I got the following error message:
"iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
With...
Error Signature:
AppName: itunes.exe AppVer: 6.0.4.2 ModName: unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 10001040
I must have reinstalled about 10 times at least. No success. So i did a quicktime standalone install before iTunes. No success. In fact, Quicktime fails to open at all and won't show up in the Add/Remove Programs. Gives error something on the lines of "0x80040707" straight after Quicktime standalone install.
I am running a Windows XP Pro 64-bit edition. Is this a new problem?
This is driving me crazy! I never realised how much i depend on iTunes and what it gives me
Thank you so much in advance!
Tom

sorry about the delay, Twong. i had been trying to avoid the BMWX5 rants, and hadn't realised that the one in here had been edited out.
your message on launch (when it cites that offset 10001040) is almost invariably caused by a broken QuickTime. so let's first try a careful standalone QT 7.1 reinstall:
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
Quicktime 7.1 Standalone Installer
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)
love, b

• Latest iTunes upgrade causing problems, skipping, stuttering....

I just upgraded the iTunes on my PC and I'm getting all manner of skipping and stuttering in playback. The upgrade also include Quicktime and it took a while, but I don't know what else could be causing the problem. I don't want to restart or reinstall. Just wanted to see if anyone else had this problem.
and, yes, i have a PC...but prefer Mac.

You may want to check your soundcard output in QuickTime. See this post for directions on the process: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa;jsessionid=aXxb7IZbMDPmI_4E?messageID=814726&ft=y&#814726
And this Article: iTunes and QuickTime for Windows: Songs and other audio don't play correctly
And before you do any of the above, make sure that you have all the recent Windows Updates from windowsupdate.com. Make sure you have the latest drivers for your particular sound card, and make sure you have the latest DirectX installed. Any of these could also cause this problem without QuickTime being the culprit.

BUMP
Yes, I just get that message. I don't see how I could investigate this problem.
I didn't mention that this happened when I was consolidating my library, not copying files to another computer.
In other words, I'm using a "normal" itunes procedure, itunes won't complete it, and won't tell me exactly why or how to figure out how to fix it...
Is there at least some easy way to tell which files were successfully copied to my itunes music folder so I can work on moving the uncopied files?
Can anybody help me?

A bit of repetition, mainly for the benefit of anyone else with the same issue. In your case the "for older video cards" version might be worth a try.
When cleaning folders you need to check both the Program Files and Program Files (x86) folders, which you may well have done but didn't mention in the detail above.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The section Install missing components has advice on breaking down the iTunes installer into the individual .msi files which might prove useful if Apple Mobile Device Support won't install normally.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for performance issues or compatibility with third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

Try assigning Queen as the Album Artist on the compilations in iTunes on your computer.

• "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close." Quicktime problem!

I'm having a MaJoR problem with Quicktime and iTunes, but i think the main problem is Quicktime since iTunes runs off of it. I've never been able to install Quicktime, and i recently bought an iPod, and when i try to install Quicktime and iTunes the download goes great, but as soon as i try to open either one i get the error "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." i've tried about 7 or 8 times now, using the Apple help page too. Please let me know if u have any idea how to fix this.

Here's what worked for other users; perhaps it will work for you (I've never had this problem so I can't say for sure):
1) Uninstall QuickTime from the Add/Remove Programs control panel. If you have difficulties, Microsoft's Installer Cleanup Utility, as you mention, may help.
2) Clean up the Windows registry with http://www.ccleaner.com/ (freeware)
3) Restart your system.
4) Delete the QuickTime folder
5) Reinstall QT ( you can get QT separately here.
Good luck.
