ITunes 7 deletes everything bug

Its a great feeling when you buy a iPod 80Gig video and download iTunes from the apple website and start synchronising content only to find out the last 10 gig of photo's you uploaded are now deleleted when you try and upload one video file. Enabling manual synchronisation seems like it is getting ignored and before you know it all your iPod content is gone. Is there a fix available for this issue?
iPod Video 80gig   Windows XP

This might actually be an issue with your firewall and/or anti-virus software. I'm using 7.5 and don't have any issues with it, and I'm also on XP SP2. Did you try closing your firewall and/or anti-virus programs before opening iTunes? You might find that another program was interfering because it thought 7.5 was a new unauthorized program - I think this might esp be true for Norton users.
However, if you want to go back to 7.3 I can help you restore your old library:
1. Uninstall 7.5 and reinstall 7.3 but don't try to open it yet.
2. Go to My Music>iTunes>Previous iTunes Libraries. You should see a file called 'iTunes Library 2007-11-11' (or dated whenever you upgraded). Copy this file into the 'iTunes' folder in your 'My Music' folder.
3. Open the iTunes folder and move the 'iTunes Library.itl' file onto your desktop. Rename the file you just copied to 'iTunes Library.itl'.
4. Open the 7.3 version - it should look just like it did before!
If this worked you can delete the 'iTunes Library.itl' you moved onto the desktop; if it didn't you'll need to close iTunes, move that file back into the iTunes folder and go back to trying something else with 7.5. The only reason it might not work is because you've reinstalled several times.

  • Why does iTunes match delete everything off my iPad memory every time I connect to pc?

iTunes recently deleted all my music off my iPad so it was only available to stream, which is no use to me. I've just connected to my pc again and gone, just like that every song has that horrible little cloud next to it. I spent a full day last weekend downloading everything to the iPad memory, looks like I'll be doing it again tomorrow.

    Gavin,
From what I understand the first time you connect your iPad it should wipe out all cloud based music but after that as you stream music ( which is not real streaming but download and play) it should then keep the music in case you want to replay it and only delete it to make room for any more music you download subsequently.
If that isn't happening then it's probably a bug!
    Regards,
    Shawn

  • Does itunes restore deletes everything permanently?

I had an iPod Touch 5th generation 16gb for iOS 7.1.2, and sold it off to eBay. I used the iTunes restore option to restore it into a new device by downloading the core software from Apple's servers, and starting fresh. I am just wondering does iTunes restoring to a new device permanently deletes everything on that iPod?I see software that claims to crack the security of iPods and iPhones and retrieve lost or deleted data.

The erase all contents and settings effectively deletes all of your information.  I say effectively because if someone wanted to spend enough money they could retrieve information, but that will cost a very large sum.  Only alternative is to destroy the device or have access to a high security erasing system that will overwrite the storage multiple times.
You can feel comfortable that your information has been erased on the iPod you sold...retrieval would not be worth the effort.

  • Itunes has deleted everything i can't get it back :-(

    Hi,
I-Tunes keeps deleting all my music, apps, tv, ringtones. This has been going on since the recent I-Tunes update. It actually deletes the library and genius files and I find them in the trash try to restore them back but it won't have it. I've read a few posts on here and none of that works. I've noticed the music is kept in the music folder so I guess I'm going to have to drag it over and do it that way. I have 100,000 songs. I've even gone so far as to do a full restore on my laptop to clear everything off and start again.  I don't even get time to back up all my new stuff I got yesterday. Its like there's a little person in my laptop wiping it all.
Is it actually a glitch with the new i tune update, if that's the case I won't fully add all my music as its a lot of music to have to add every other day.
Any help would be most grateful.
Oh also when I go into performance to make the new changes the box is un-ticked where it keeps music copied in the library and I always have this ticked.
    thanks again,

  • I'm scared I (iTunes) might delete everything on my iPod!

I recently had to restore my computer so right before I did I enabled the iPod for disk use to save all my songs and pictures. I then re-installed the iPod software and iTunes (4.7.1) using the cd that came with the iPod. So now there is nothing in my iTunes library, which is fine with me because everything is still on my iPod but I'm scared to connect my iPod to the computer and iTunes because I don't know if the iPod preferences are set to manually manage library or automatically synch. If it automatically synches then I will lose everything with no way of getting any of it back. And I know I can't check in the preferences menu because the iPod tab doesn't show anything if it's not connected.
I'm very anxious about what might happen. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • ITunes Crashed & Deleted Everything!!!

    Hi,
Few daysago after updating iTunes to the latest version it crashed while I was using it, deleting all my music, iPhone backup, and apps! I tried repairing, removing\reinstalling iTunes but it didn't work, iTunes just refuses to start after I double click on the icon, nothing hapens when I do!
I just want my music & mobile backup? I spent the last 5 months degitising my CDs & it's devistating to see all my work gone in few seconds!!
    P.S. I'm using windows 7 ultimate!

Is there any way I can easily re-install my old library so that I don't have to go through my music folders and individually add each artists one by one?
Just use the Add To Library command and select the iTunes Music folder. You won't get your playlists back unless you made backup of the playlists separately or have a backup of the original iTunes library files, but you should get back all of your tracks, videos, etc.
    Hope this helps.

  • ITunes will delete everything on my phone during upgrade?

I want to upgrade my phone's OS thru iTunes but when I do, I get a popup that says that there are purchased things on my phone that I should transfer to iTunes before I upgrade. Ok. So when I go to do that, I get a popup that says that by syncing I will replace everything on my phone with the data from my iTunes. I have like, nothing in my iTunes. Just music. So it will essentially take everything on my phone and replace it with nothingness from my iTunes. What am I doing wrong?

    got it.

  • ITunes Update deleted everything!

My iTunes updated yesterday and when I restarted my computer this morning my entire library was GONE! AND my iPod Shuffle was reset and my playlist was gone! What Happened? Where is my music? What about the music i paid for from the store and downloaded?

Did you do a search of the harddrive?
Soapbox: It sounds like you don't have any backups if you are so worried about the music you bought from itms. I would HIGHLY recommend that you change that. Harddrive can/will fail without warning.

  • My itunes has deleted everything including 3 ipod backups...

I tried to sync my ipod to Itunes (it has been synced to the same laptop for 2 years) and when i got on itunes all my msic was gone. I then went to go sync my ipod and it says it hasnt been synced before ??? now i will lose all my apps ???? help?!?!?!?1

To prevent auto sync, before you connect the iPod go to the iTunes preferences and select "devices", then select "disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods".
An alternative method is to connect the iPod whilst holding down the 'control+shift' keys and do not let them go until your iPod appears in iTunes.
When the iPod is connected to your home computer a message will appear to say that your iPod is associated with a different library because it has now been synced to your laptop and it will ask if you want to link to the new one (your home computer).
If you click "Erase and Sync" it will erase all the content currently on your iPod (the stuff from your laptop) and it will be replaced with the content of the iTunes library you just connected to (your home computer).
When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list under "devices" you can change the update setting to manage the iPod content manually, and that will let you use your iPod on any computer without the risk of accidentally erasing the contents.

I hope I've explained that ok?!

  • ITunes deleted everything.  What do I do?

For the second time now, iTunes has deleted everything in my iTunes library. Videos, music, apps, podcasts, the whole shebang. This is actually the second time it's happened too, all within a week. The first occurred after I restarted my computer, and I just fixed it earlier today (although I'm not sure how I did). Now, for the second time, iTunes has been swiped. I've checked the iTunes folder, and I have some files like, "iTunes Library", "iTunes Library Extras", and a .xml file called "iTunes Music Library". I'm sure I could use these in some way, but I'm not quite sure how. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

+On a side note, what's up with all of the ".tmp" files in my iTunes folder. I have 123 of them...+
That's been seen when other programs interfere with itunes saving its database file. The important one is the ITL file. All the others (XML, genius, extras)can be rebuilt from the ITL.
Did you recently update or install some security software? How about backup software like Carbonite or Mozy? This kind of software is notorious for scanning the itunes iTL file and putting a lock on it - while itunes is trying to update it.
You need to configure whatever other software it is, to not interfere with itunes.
If the photos are only on the iPod, yes I am fairly certain you will lose those photos if you sync your ipod to a different library. If the photos are on the PC you can always rebuild the itunes library and sync them back to the ipod.

  • How do I sync my iPhone to a new iTunes WITHOUT deleting all of my content?

I had to totally reset my whole laptop and now my phone won't sync with the new iTunes without deleting everything- I obviously don't want to delete everything! HELP?!

This is how it works.  Iphone will sync with only one library at a time.  Syncing to another will erase the current content.
    Sorry.
Use your backup copy of your computer to put all of your data back on your computer, then sync.

  • ITunes keeps deleting my library

When I launch iTunes i get an error stating that my iTunes library is damaged and then deletes all my movies, music and podcasts from the library. If I plug my ipod in iTunes then deletes everything from it. This is driving me to insanity!!! Can anyone help?

I've just reloaded everything onto the library and imported a couple of new CD's without a problem so it's certainly not every time I try.
Have called a mate who's a system's man so he's going to have a look at the PC itself tomorrow or Tuesay. If it's a problem with the PC he should be able to sort it, if not we'll have to look at iTunes again. Either way I'll post here in a couple of days and let you know mate.
    Cheers

  • HT4972 So I have to delete everything?:(

So I looked through it, do I plug it into my computer, update Itunes, then delete everything?? I'm really confused plz help!!

    Hi Denise45,
So, going by the KBase document that you referenced, I'm assuming that you are trying to update your iPod to iOS 5?
First off, are you using a Mac or a PC?
Is your computers operating system up-to-date?
    Is iTunes up-to-date?
If all other software is up-to-date, connect your iPod to your computer. iTunes will alert you that there is a software update that is available. Ignore that for the time being.
Next if you have made purchases from iTunes directly to your iPod Touch, you'll want to transfer those purchases to iTunes:
Mac>control+click on the name of your iPod, in iTunes, under devices.
PC>right-click on the name of your iPod, in iTunes, under devices.
This will open up a menu, and you'll want to choose "transfer purchases", which will copy all of your purchases to your computer. Depending on how many purchases you've made you might have to do this a couple of times (maybe two or three)
After all of your purchases have been transferred, you'll want to create a backup. iTunes does this every time your iPod is connected, however this is a "soft" backup that iTunes will overwrite every time that your iPod is connected. To make a "hard" back-up (one that iTunes won't overwrite) bring up the same menu that was used to transfer your purchases. Another option in this menu is "backup". Select that and iTunes will create a backup that contains all of the information on your iPod, except for pictures that were taken using the iPods camera. Those can be imported by your computer (iPhoto if you're using a Mac, AutoPlay if your're on a PC)
With all of the above done, click normally on the name of your iPod in iTunes and that will take you to the summary page. On that page click "update"and allow iTunes to update your iPod. Do not uplug your iPod or turn of your internet connection while the update is going on.
After the update has been downloaded, it will be installed on your iPod. There will be a status bar on the screen of your iPod that will show the progress. After the update has been installed your iPod will reboot. If, after the reboot you notice things (apps, songs, movies, etc) missing from your iPod, don't panic. From the summary page select "restore". iTunes will ask if you want to restore from a backup, click yes. Then choose the backup that you created before the iOS update, it will be time stamped so try to take a glance at the clock when you make the backup.
After your iPod has been restored from the backup all of your information will be back on, with no data loss.
    Hope this helps

  • ITunes deletes everything from iPod Touch when I try to sync.

This has happened to me five times now, and I am incredibly frustrated. When I start to sync my iPod Touch with iTunes, instead of actually syncing it deletes everything from my iPod (music, videos, podcasts, audiobooks, etc.; apps and other data aren't deleted). I have over 30gb of audio on my iPod, so it takes longer than 12 hours to get everything synced back up again. This first happened to me right after I upgraded to iOS 6, so I thought it was just a bug, but it has happened four times since, and three times in the last four days. I did a factory restore of my iPod last night and then synced it all night, and then iTunes just erased everything off again when I was syncing it again this evening.
Moreover, when I attempt to sync again to get my music back, iTunes only transfers some of my library. And each time I cancel the sync and restart it, the number of songs transferred over decreases. Sometimes soft resetting the iPod fixes this problem and allows the entire library to sync, but last time that wouldn't do the trick, which is why I tried the factory reset. It's still happening though, as I'm trying to sync right now and it's only showing 1500 of my 8000 tracks.
I have an iPod Touch 4G running iOS 6 and am running iTunes on Windows 7 32-bit. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have a similar problem with my iPhone 4S running iOS 6 (Win7 64bit). When the first beta of iOS came out, I used the restore trick to load it on my phone without a developer license. I knew what I was getting into. This problem happened about 4-5 times through the various beta releases. When iOS was released to the public, it would not let me upgrade to it, so I had to DFU my phone to get it on the final release and restore a backup. Fine, but now I was on the official release. The problem has occurred twice now since then.
I sync my phone daily as I have a lot of playlists that use the "Last Played Date" attribute. I will sync my phone and the next time I go to play a song, all my music is gone. It is very intermittent. To fix, I have to uncheck all my playlists in iTunes, sync. Then recheck my playlists and have it readd. Like OP, I have 35-40GB of music, so it takes a long time to have to re-add everything.
I originally attributed this to a bug in the beta so I dealt with it. Now that I'm getting the error on the final release, its a bit more annoying. My wife has a 4S as well (Vista 32bit) and she has not had this issue.
