Itunes 7 installed, but won't open

Hi! I had an older version of itunes (not 6.5, prior to that) and I decided to upgrade to itunes 7. I downloaded it and all was fine, I did not get any error message and it said the installation was successfully completed. However, now my itunes will not open at all. Again, there is no error message, but when I double click it the little hour glass comes up for a moment, then goes away and nothing happens.
I had this same problem some time ago when I tried upgrading to itunes 6.5. Both now and back then I tried all of the suggestions on the website to no avail. Eventually I just uninstalled 6.5 and downloaded my previous version and everthing was fine.
Again this time I have tried every possible solution to get itunes to work, but nothing has helped. Is there anything you can suggest? If nothing else I would like to go back to using itunes 5 or some older version, however now I cannot find those avalible for download on the itunes site. If nothing else could you please direct me to a site that has the version of itunes PRIOR to 6.5 avalible to download for Windows? Thank you.

Hello,
I had the same problem and I deleted everything expect the itune music folder in the document folder then I installed the "install CD" that came with ipod (my version is itunes 4 with the install CD. I got everything working again exect for one problem. I can't play any of my purchased songs. It says that my computer needs to authorization, but the thing is my computer is and it won't let me authorization. when I get to the itunes store it wants me to upgrade to itunes 7.
I hope this helps you a little.
Good Luck,
Susan

  • ITunes 8.0.2 installed, but won't open

Yesterday I upgraded my iTunes to version 8.0.2 because it had been telling me to do so for months. I installed it on the administrator account on my family's XP (each user has a seperate account, with their own iTunes library). It now works only on the administrator account, and it will not open iTunes on any other account. Whenever I try to open it, it says:
iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
For more information about this error, click here.
    Debug Close
I have done eveything I can to try and fix this and get our iTunes back, but nothing works. The apple website says I need to install it on the administrator account (which I did) and have the newest update of a Microsoft Service Pack (which I also did). There is no specific error code. If anyone can help me, it would be much appreciated!

There is a good troubleshooting article here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1421
I think you have already established that the problem is account specific if iTunes works in your Administrator account, so you need to go down the user specific route.
Does Quicktime work OK in all the accounts? iTunes will not work if Quicktime doesn't.
Are the other accounts limited user? If they are it might be interesting if you temporarily promoted one of them to see if that made a difference.
Does each user have a completely different library, are are you using shared folders? It might help to know how you have things set up.

  • ITunes shows up as installed but won't open showing message Apple Push Service.dll not found

iTunes shows "installed" yet will not open up when I click on icon, showing message Apple Push Service.dll not found

If you definitely have a working QuickTime but iTunes thinks that you7 do not, then this points to a particular type of error.
Do you have a computer that has been set up for a work network? You may find that iTunes works OK when the computer is connected to the network but doesn't at home when not connected.
There are other possibilities, but this is a common one.
If I have guessed right, the problem lies in the %path% environment variable. In order to look at its contents, could you do the following:
    Type:
    cmd
into your search box and click cmd under Programs.
The black cmd window will open.
Next copy&paste the following into the cmd window and press return:
    echo %path% >documents\path.txt
This will place the contents of the %path% variable in a text file called Path in (My) Documents.
Could you copy&paste this text file into your next post so I can look at it.
(Use ctrl V to paste into the editor, right click doesn't work.)

  • ITunes downloaded but won't open

Got new iPod yesterday. Downloaded iTunes successfully (already had QTime) but it won't open. Have tried running virus scanner & AdAware, updated browser and checked all browser and audio settings. Have uninstalled and reinstalled both iTunes and QuickTime SEVEN times, but still can't launch iTunes. All other software functioning normally. iPod unit itself seems to work--but, of course, no music on it yet. Have spent 5.5 hours going through every suggestion on this site, but nothing helps; all settings seem to be correct. Cannot find any contact info for APPLE!!!! Extremely frustrated. Anyone have suggestions?

I spent about 8 hrs on this yesterday (Thanks Apple). I did get it to work though, here is what I did:
I was able to get Itunes to work
Posted: Dec 26, 2006 6:34 PM Reply Email
I did all the things everyone suggested but no luck.
The way I made it work: I removed Itunes and quicktime as directed in other threads via the control panel. Then I did a search of the root directory for anything with itune in it (itune.), I then deleted those files. I did the same thing for quicktime. After deleting the files I emptied the recycle bin, rebooted and then reinstalled Itunes. I did not install to the default directory (C:\program files\Itunes), I put Itunes on the root (C:\Itunes).I really don't know if it was stupid luck or if it was the correct thing to do but it worked for me? Could be that just putting it on the root C: did the trick?
There were some quick time files that I couldn't delete.
There were also some itune files that I couldn't delete until I went to the directory and deleted the whole directory, the folders had long names with both letters and numbers.
This was for my duaghters new Ipod, I am going to stick with my Zen.

  • Itunes downloaded but won't open on Windows 8

I just purchased a laptop with Windows 8 and Itunes downloaded fine but it won't open.  It says "Itunes has stopped working".  I have a Sony Vaio and my previous computer was a Sony Vaio so I know it should be working.  Any tips or advice on what to try?

If that doesn't solve things then for general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • ITunes downloads but won't open

Ever since I upgraded to iTunes 7 in September, I've been having problems...it worked great for the first week and now refuses to open. I've tried completely removing iTunes, Quicktime, and iPod Updater before reinstalling, but it still won't work after several tries. I've tried opening it from Windows Task Manager, from Program Files, the Start Menu, and by clicking on the icon. The program and my music is there, it just won't open--I don't even get an error message. It just doesn't do anything. Help!

I only have 256MB of RAM, though I'm planning on upgrading. Do you think that might be a problem?
it's not the first thing i think about in these circumstances. if you're planning on upgrading anyway, that's fine. but i probably wouldn't rush your plans as part of a troubleshooting measure for the itunes/quicktime thing.
backtracking to something else you said earlier:
itunes.exe does appear in the Task Manager processes once I click on it, but not under applications.
is it a long persistence in there, or is it more of a quick 1-2 second appearance? (that can help with identifying possible culprits.)
if you try launching your QT after a reboot, does the QuickTimePlayer.exe process appear (in Task Manager in the Processes tab) immediately, or do you have to wait for 5 minutes before that one shows up?

SUBJECT: FIREFOX WON'T OPEN. I have used Firefox for years, but upon reinstalling my Vista Home Premium OS, I also had to reinstall all my software. The only problem I had was with Firefox, which appeared to download and install successfully, but refuses to open. Something seems to be blocking it, but what, and how can I fix this?

  • ITunes installed but will not open...HELP!!!

    Hey,
I've been trying to get my iTunes re-installed as it seemed to just stop working. I'm in a right pickle as I'm working on the play list for my upcoming wedding...
I've removed and reinstalled about 3 times now (on Chrome and IE) and everything seems to go OK with the install but when I try to open the iTunes from the desktop, nothing happens. I can open QT no problem.
Please help as this couldn't have happened at a worse time and I'm running out of ideas.
    Thanks,
    Steve

First check to see if iTunes.exe remains running on the processes tab of the Task Manager, even though iTunes does not open.
If it does, it means iTunes is hanging during start up. This can be caused by bonjour as suggested by the previous poster.
If that doesn't work here is a method for troubleshooting this type of launch failure in Windows XP.
    ===
Troubleshooting silent launch failure in Windows XP
Before checking if iTunes works, restart your PC or close the iTunes.exe process with task manager if it is running.
A couple of simple things to try:
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1776?viewlocale=en_US
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2363?viewlocale=en_US
Stop the bonjour service, this FAQ has instructions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2250?viewlocale=en_US
But usually it is due to a problem with cryptographic services.
Check to see if you have your smart card service and that it is not set to disabled. For some reason iTunes needs it.
    Start>>Run>>Services.msc
you should find the smart card service in the list. Report back with your findings.
Malware can interfere with cryptographic services and also prevent a resolution so it is important to check that your system is clean before proceeding: Run a virus and spyware scan with up to date definitions.
Then work through *Method 4* in the following link:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798
You should be able to copy and paste the individual lines to save on typing.
Make a careful note of any error messages you get, they are important for diagnosis. Report back any error messages especially the names of any dlls mentioned.
If there are no errors try starting iTunes.

  • PB Apps on BBW Downloading and installing But won't open.

I've just bought a Playbook and installed the lates OS. When I went to Blackberry World to install some apps, they seem to download and install fine but then sit in limbo and won't open. This has happened to 3 free apps now.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The apps I installed are the Blackberry Tutorial, The Belgium Zip Code  Lookup and a Soltaire Game.
The apps are visible on the App World screen as installed. But no icon appears anywhere else. Touching the app in the App World menu only provides a description. There is no loss of functionality with the rest of the Playbook.

  • LR6 downloaded/installed but won't open.  Help screens didn't help.

I am logged into my creative cloud account.  I downloaded and installed the new LR upgrade but it won't open using either of the methods in help.  I have tried a restart, no joy.  I still have LR5 installed but I don't want to try removing it unless I can get LR6 to open.  Hope you can help with this.  Respectfully, Duncan

Me too. Tried to get Adobe to help. After 30 minutes someone answered the telephone. Support person implied he's never heard of such a thing. Posted problem on forum. Someone asked me about my computer specs. Tried the support chat feature. Waited forever. Nobody at Adobe responded to chat request. Eventually got a robot email form Adobe stating the problem is solved and issue officially closed. Before this afternoon I had a working LR. Now, I have one LR that is partially functional and one that doesn't open.

My EBAY app has dissappeared from my screen. It is already installed, but it won't open (in App Store).  How do I get it back?

Sounds like the above solution worked for you I'm posting this for other readers:
One reason this can occur is because of parental settings. eBay has a rating of 12+; if this is not allowed in
    Settings > General > Restrictions > Apps
...then the app will not show up.
