ITunes 7 Movie (DVD) Cover Art

I was wondering how to make the artwork for movies rectangular like a dvd case. The default art for movies i've imported is the first fram of the movie and therefor a wide rectangle, high resolution, and the frame is only around the actual picture. I tried putting artwork on a movie (of the DVD case) and it scaled it down a lot (read: pixelated) and put it in a square with sides the length of the height. In coverflow view, this looks bad because the part of the square that is not filled with cover is white, and doesn't look right against the black backgroud for obvious reasons. The covers also don't seem scaled properly because they arn't the height they should be (again, because of being square).
I understand that album art looks right, because CD inserts are square. DVDs are not. Anyone know how I can do this easily without fooling around in photoshop?

Ha. Wow. Got the artwork from Amazon and didn't realize that the white around the area around it was part of the image. All better.

  • DVD cover art image

Is there a way is DVD SP to load a "Cover Art" image to the disc that can be read by some dvd players (ex. Kaleidescape, some Jukebox players)? An image that may show up in the dvd player's menu system someplace (Similar to the way a cd cover is in iTunes)? I swear I did this years ago in and older version of dvd sp but I can't for the life of me remember how I may have done it...

I agree with Steve - sounds like a Jacket picture might be what you are referring to... this is an image that shows instead of the DVD Player default image when you stop the disc. You can put a Jacket Pic in through DVDSP these days - years ago it was a lot more complex to do and involved either using different software for authoring, or different software to create the pic (3 sizes, all single frame MPEG2 images) and then adding it to the disc, then burning with Toast... yada yada yada. Nowadays, just specify the image and away you go.
You may want to check on how JPs affect compatibility, and whether it is even worth the hassle.

  • Itunes won't display cover art correctly

When I view my music in the album list, the cover art for songs will show up very sporadically, despite displaying fine in the grid and cover flow formats. They also show up when I select "Get Info" as part of the information and in the cover section. The cover art is also tied to the music file itself.
Is there any way to fix this? Album list is my preferred way to view my music, but the lack of cover art is annoying. Plus, I don't want to sync my ipod until it's fixed because I don't want to lose the cover art stored there.
I have iTunes 10.0.1.22, but I was having the problem in earlier versions as well.

Try itunes menu > view > Always Show Artwork when you're in album list view.
The default is off, which saves screen real estate when there's a bunch of singles.

  • DVD Cover Art

I've downloaded and set the artwork in my mp4 and m4v movie files converted from DVD. The artwork shows fine in iTunes but in Front Row I see the usually meaningless few seconds of preview. My guess is that this cannot be changed and is the expected behavior of the current version of Front Row. Am I wrong? Is there a way to show the DVD artwork in Front Row?

Unfortunately it's true. Hopefully this will be something they'll fix in Leopard.

  • ITunes distorting non-square cover art

I have some non-square album art that displays in the now playing/selected window with black bars at the top and bottom as expected.  However, the album art is stretched to a square in grid view.  This happens only to some non-square artwork.  For example, Jimmy Eat World's Stay On My Side Tonight is stretched to a square, but Mutemath's self-titled remains a rectangle.  I understand that iTunes resamples album artwork, but how/why is it changing the shape?

    3. Use Media Monkey to remove the embedded artwork in the individual tracks *directly off the iPod* -- not iTunes.
I've posted elsewhere that artwork seems to take up about 0.5% of the average music file. Removing all artwork on a 160Gb iPod (or 148Gb when 1Gb = 2^9) would save about 0.75Gb - hardly worth all the effort I'd have thought.
    4. Non-square artwork gets resized/cropped as viewed on the iPod.
While the artwork is resized to fill the display area as far as I can tell it isn't cropped and will retain the original aspect ratio. Generally images that are wider than they are tall break up the smooth line of albums in cover flow and are quite easy to spot.

  • ITunes 10.6. Cover art taking CPU power

Can somebody (who can see cpu percentages) try this:
-open iTunes (10.6.) and use the last option in the right showing cover flow + list of music underneath
    -play random
-put iTunes in the miniature mode (green button) and press forward (next piece) for about 10-25 times
-look at the CPU percentages - they go high! -at least for me
When I press the green button again (open window), it seems the cover flow is stuck and it starts to look for the right cover.
    Anybody else with this problem??

Hate to say it, but I'm having the same issue with the Mini Player after updating to iTunes 10.6
For years now I have enjoyed waking the Mac, clicking the play button on the Mini Player and resuming where I left off.
At this point I really don't have an answer and I'm still trying to sort out what has changed..?
The strange part is that everything else is working as expected, except that after a short period of time (sometimes after 2, 3 or 4 Albums) the CPU usage for iTunes jumps up to around 50 or 60% just like you have described. Even weirder is the fact that when I switch back to the normal full size Cover Flow window, the CPU usage instantly drops back to normal.. After trying a bunch of different stuff (restarting, repairing permissions, etc...) and playing around for awhile, kind of chalked it up as a beg or malfuntion between the Mini Player and Cover Flo same as you.
One work around that seems to be working for me is, I have switched the main iTunes window from Cover Flo to (boring) List view and now the Mini Player seems to be fine.
Other than that, at this point our best hope it to contact iTunes Support and send Feedback to iTunes.

  • ITunes won't retrieve cover art after CD import

I am using iTunes 8.2 (current version). I have been using iTunes for years. Usually, once iTunes finishes importing my CD, it says it it getting the album artwork and poof it appears. Now after importing a CD, nothing happens. The only preference I can find that seems to address this is under "Store" and is a check box, stating "Automatically download missing album artwork." "Album artwork for songs which you imported into iTunes will be downloaded." That box is checked.
Is there something in the new version that disabled getting album artwork for CDs I am importing? Is there a setting I overlooked?

Try itunes menu > view > Always Show Artwork when you're in album list view.
The default is off, which saves screen real estate when there's a bunch of singles.

  • Cover Art Problems with iTunes Library on a NAS

I have my iTunes library stored on a Synology NAS.  I use a networked Mac Mini as a dedicated iTunes player, I set it up so the Mac Mini finds my iTunes library on the NAS.  The cover art for all of my movies that I ripped from my home DVD collection shows up fine in iTunes.  But the cover art for movies that I downloaded from iTunes does not show up, either in iTunes on my Mac Mini, or on my AppleTV (2nd Gen).  I suspect the problem comes from the fact that I keep the iTunes library in a separate place (on the NAS) rather than on the computer that runs iTunes.  Is there a fix to this?

I'm having troubles with my Itunes in combination with the synology server as well...
I'm getting audio from the server, all of this is working great.... But I'm not getting any cover art! I'm also not getting the optn to view the info of tracks. This is all working when I'm listing to track placed on my Mac in stead of the server.
Could you help me setting up de synology? Is there any structure neccesary on the server? Could you send me a screen grab of yours?

  • What is happening to all the movie artwork since I downloaded iTunes 11?  All the art work is missing.  They down even show up on my apple TV anymore.  This is frustrating !!!!!

What is happening to all the movie artwork since I downloaded iTunes 11?  All the art work is missing.  They down even show up on my apple TV anymore.  This is frustrating !!!!!

Well, all my PAID, bought on iTunes movie poster art is now missing as well in iTunes 11.1.2. My largeish personal movie collection, wherein I hunted down the poster art and manually added it... all still work. Further, I note, in moving one of my processed films between Macs, the cover art is embedded in the H.264 movie file itself. It cannot go away. As a test of this, I transferred one of my files to a PC notebook of a friend, and even iTunes on the PC sees the cover art fine.
This tells us, code wise, movies from the iTunes Store do not have embedded, rather linked poster art assets, and thus, the link within iTunes between movie and poster art has been severed in this release.  This is why an incremental update to iTunes can magically restore all the missing cover art.
A note to Apple Programmers Imagine were I Steve Jobs telling you this. (Oh, I am THAT guy who caused a rewrite of the Apple Store. Remember THAT?) Here is the permanent fix to cover art issues: In a hidden, locked (after edit) Unix file stored safely somewhere, you just have iTunes use an OUTBOARD FILE which simply contains the link data for the art. THEN, when ANY new version of iTunes comes along, it just reads that little file, and NO USER is ever left without art. The file is opened and modified as needed, and just locked up after each change.
Further, the poster art is not searchable by name on your computer if you wanted to do a manual add to permanently fix the problem.
From experience, I can tell you manually adding movie poster art, which iTunes then embeds, is painfully slow even on a fast machine. That is because a huge file must be rewritten. This is why Apple may have reticence - keeping user experience positive.
Further, Apple may be using a direct screen dump technology for the poster art, which puts a graphic onscreen without using further memory. Large collections could tank a lesser machine if this was not used.
Well, at least my movies look good in Apple TV.

  • Recent itunes convert, organizing, cover art, etc.

im trying to gather as much best practice info about ripping large quantities of my cds to mp3 using itunes. ive previously used other windows or opensource apps in the past, and the folder organization can always be counted on (but unlink itunes, they dont download cover art).
also, ive run into a few situations where a popular/recent album is unable to find cover art. is there also some sort of best practice that covers getting the highest probability of it actually finding the right cover art? (ive also had some movie soundtracks pull the wrong cover art too)

Ok, Richsadams et al: I think I have all this artwork missing problem figured out, here is how.
We just need to chill out and simply wait. They will all eventually show up there on their own. It took me few hours to realize all that, but it is true, it will be there on their own, as long as you have them in your pc/mac library hard drive.
Thanks all for the replies. This is a brand new service, and of course it will have its problems at the beginning, especially when millions of people do it at the same day. At the end, we'll all be happy with iTunes match and iCloud, I know it! Especially streaming all your iclouds library via Apple TV is simply awesome!!
I’m not sure how "waiting" would have helped in this case.  Had I not been proactive, the cover art would still be missing.    Overall the service is still "buggy" IMO and users shouldn't have to wait or go through some pretzel logic to resolve problems.  If it were one or even a couple of issues that’s one thing...but this did not go well on a number of levels.
I understand "early adoption" caveats, but based on numerous posts here and elsewhere, this was not a pleasant experience for a lot of folks...with many still struggling to get things back on track.
We have admittedly been spoiled by Apple's usual high standards.  However with all of the issues with the rollout of iOS 5 and now iTunes Match, recent events have been very disappointing.  Apple has previously set the customer experience bar very high and almost always met or surpassed it.  These past couple of fairly major events felt rushed and unpolished.
I'm the first one to come to Apple's defense and will continue to do so, but this experience has soured my outlook on Apple's ability to continue to deliver at their previous levels.  I hope they are able to regroup and learn from this because I truly want them to succeed and stay on top.

  • View cover art wd book live nas iTunes

Hi, i have bought a WD Book Live 3tb network storage device, i have transferred all of my itunes library to the NAS drive and because it has a itunes server, itunes detects it and i can play my files. All of my music have the cover art embedded into the files, because when i view them in the finder i can see the cover art. But when i am browsing my library through itunes none of the cover art shows up even though it is embedded into the files? can anybody help me get my cover art to show? thanks

trial and error but i think i got it.. this worked for me running OS: 10.8.3, iTunes: 11.0.3
On your computer hard drive (running your OS) go to your music folder in finder and "IF" u have a folder called "iTunes" rename it to iTunes2 or whatever u what don't matter.
Create new iTunes by holding down opt key while opening iTunes. It will ask you to create or choose.  press "Create Library..."
U will need to name…. save as: "iTunes" and the saved location HAS TO BE ON MAIN HARD DRIVE running your OS. This folder cant be saved to external hard drive ONLY MAIN HARD DRIVE and the name HAS to be "iTunes". It wont work with any other name
If you have large music located on external drive then u will need to go to preferences on iTunes and change "iTunes Media folder location" to your desired location on your external and MAKE SURE TO CHECK BOTH BOXES... ( the actual "iTunes" folder containing Album Artwork, iTunes Library.itl, iTunes Library.xml ect has to be located on main hard drive running OS that the trick)
Adding media back to new iTunes--- so IF your original media is located on the main drive then go to the new "iTunes" folder that was created in your Music folder on main hard drive and there is a folder called "Automatically Add to iTunes"  all u do is just drag the folder holding all your original media to that folder called "Automatically Add to iTunes"and it will automatically move that original file and organize it to the new iTunes folder….So FYI  any media on the same disk will not get doubled when u add to folder it will only organize file but if it located on different disk and you drag file to " "iTunes Media folder location"" located on main hard drive then it will double that file
Adding media to new iTunes if the original media is located on EXTERNAL drive----. Pretty much its the same but back on step 4 if you saved  "iTunes Media folder location" to external folder... then that folder has a folder called "iTunes Media folder location"" …. So if u add any media saved on that drive and drag to that folder it will just organize and move that original file only……
So now in iTunes when u press "show in finder" for music it will show artwork and when u just search with finder it will show artwork for music file. Hope this help this issue bugged me for a long time apple tech was no help.. hope this works for others

  • Missing cover art from iTunes on iPhone

Some of the albums on my iPhone (bought via iTunes) are missing their cover art. On my iMac all the albums in iTunes have their cover art. When I sync the iPhone on my iMac, the cover art doesn't update on the iPhone! The iPhone iTunes cover art used to be there, some of them were even bought from iTunes while on the iPhone.
Can anyone please please let me know how I can update all the cover art for albums on my iPhone?

I remember reading about something similar on the AT & T forum, http://forums.wireless.att.com/cng/board/message?board.id=apple&message.id=94023 &query.id=478736#M94023

  • HT1758 iTunes not transferring my own cover art to my iPhone.

I have been having trouble, within the last month, with iTunes transferring my own cover art to my iPhone.  I used to be able to attach any cover art that I wanted and it would transfer without any problem.  Nw the only cover art that will transfer is only the cover art that iTunes provides.  Is there a setting I need to change?

All the artwork did transfer, even got a few new ones that I didn't have. Before I did a sync with the new imac, my phone had all the cover art on it. Now that I transferred everything with homesharing, I did a sync and it said it had to replace everything. Now all the music is on my phone, but with no cover art except for the ones I downloaded through itunes.

  • Apple TV and iTunes -- Cover art via AirPlay is incorrect.

iTunes and second gen Apply TV software is up to date.  I now find that album cover art is not displaying correctly on Apple TV, when music played from iTunes via AirPlay
He cover art seems to be off set by one album (from the playlist).  First song displays correctly, second song, still shows cover art from first song, third song shows cover art from second song, and so on.
Since the cover art used to display correctly, I assume that this is a bug in AirPlay.  Then again, you know what happens when you assume.
Anyone else have the same problem and been able to correct this issue?
    Thanks.

I am also experiencing this issue.  If I stop and then re-start the song, the art corrects itself, but that should not be necessary.  I would love a fix for this before the holiday when I play a lot of music.

  • Wrong Cover Art on iPad

    Curious situation.
I copied a playlist to iPad (New) from iTunes with all the cover art for each track.
When I play the tracks on the iPad the cover art is wrong for every track.
When I play the exact same tracks - from the iPad - using iTunes on my MacBook Pro - the cover art is perfect.
Exacts same tracks - wrong art when played on iPad, correct art when played from the iPad through iTunes on my Mac.
    Any ideas?

    Found the solution at:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16525017#16525017
When accessing movies using the movie app on iPad and the movie thumbnail doesn't match, go to general setting on the ipad > movie > and logout (or enter the wrong password so that it logs off) of sharing, then log back in.  It will refresh all your music and movie thumbnails to match the movies you share using your home network. All credit goes to the person that posted this fix via the link above.
Not sure yet if it has to be done again after new movies are added, but it's an easy short-term fix and works better then pulling your hair out.
