ITunes 7 new remote speakers setting ? What is it ?

I just upgraded to iTunes 7 and suddenly my Library wouldn't play.
I unchecked he remote speakers and it worked.
THERE IS A NEW OPTION IN REMOTE SPEAKERS !
Look in Preferences-Advanced.
Allow iTunes control from remote speakers must be unchecked !!!
What does it mean and why is it there ????????

do you have the latest itunes [7.0.2]:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
try trashing the itunes pref file:
user>library>preferences>com.apple.iTunes.plist
have you the latest airport express firmware:
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/airportexpressfirmwareupdate63formacosx.h tml
have you hard reset the airport express to default settings:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108044
then setup itunes pref to 'look for remote speakers..', save, quit itunes. join default airport express wireless network then restart itunes and see how it goes. if this doesn't work, im out of ideas! mayb after doing this try the ipv6 toggle again and mayb you'll get lucky!

  • ITunes not seeing remote speakers on Airport Express

... but the Airport seems to be set up correctly. "Enable AirTunes" is checked in Airport Utility, and "Look for remote speakers..." is checked in iTunes. The wireless network (WPA2 encryption) is set up through a different Airport Express (we'll call it #1); the new one (#2) is only for streaming to the stereo (cable connection, modem, and Airport Express #1 are at the other end of the house, in the basement). I have a green light on #2, and it shows up fine in Airport Utility.
in the long term, I'm planning to use Airfoil to stream Grooveshark to the stereo - AX #2 shows up in Airfoil's speaker options, but Airfoil can't connect to it, just times out. I figured I'd resolve the issue in iTunes or with the network, then deal with Airfoil if it's still a problem (which I don't think it will be). I've searched the forum, but not found anything quite like this - most people seem to be having problems with iTunes losing a connection, or they at least have the drop-down menu to select remote speakers - I don't even have that. I've seen references to opening a port on the router; I have no idea what that means or how to do it. Any help is appreciated!
    thanks,
    Andrew

  • Can't connect itunes to my remote speakers thru airport express

After having updated the latest itunes 7.3 my itunes does not recognize anymore my remote speakers and does not connect to them.
Have resetted my airport, to no avail. still, itunes does not recognize it.
please advise what to do as it is very annoying, when you make updates that your old configuration stops working.
    many thanks
    marwan

I had the same problem. It used to work without any problems but then stopped for no apparent reason. I tried resetting and hard-resetting the Airport Express (AX) many times, but no success. Plus the Airport Utility would never show the Airport Express once I configured it to join the exisiting wireless network (in my case a Airport Extreme).
Anyway finally this worked for me:
    1) Hard-resetting the AX
    2) Start Airport Utility and find the AX. But instead of going throught the guided steps to set it up, double click on the AX symbol and to set it up manually. Yo will see 5 icons in the meny bar - Airport, Internet, Music, Printers, Advanced.
    - Airport --> Base Station: In give it any name and password.
    - Airport --> Wireless. Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network. Select it below and the appropripate security settings and password.
    - Music --> Enable AirTunes. Leave the rest alone.
    3) Click Update. Close the window and wait until the AX restarted. (solid green light)
    4) Let the AirPort Utility rescan the network.
    5) Restart your wireless base station/router (as I said, in my case Airport Extreme. If you have another base station you may have to do it manually)
    6) Start iTunes and presto you will see the remote speakers
    7) Let AirPort Utility rescan the network. Presto, you see both the AX and the base station.
My setup: MacBook OS 10.4.10, Airport Extreme and Express, HP with WinXP Pro. Can also stream music form iTunes on the HP.

  • No iTunes from new USB speakers.

I just connected new USB speakers to my Windows XP desktop. Sound effects and YouTube audio, etc. plays, but silence from iTunes. USB Device has been chosen in PCs audio settings. WHat to do?

Since the Bose Cinemate Series II speaker system has only one usable active digital input.... the easiest way to have both the Blu-ray player and the cable box playing in the Bose without having to keep switching the optical cable back and forth between the two sources, is to have both of those devices hooked into the HDMI inputs on the TV and just have the Bose's optical cable running from the optical out on the TV into the optical input on the Bose.

  • Cannot get iTunes to recognize remote speakers via Airtunes

I have the option checked under iTunes preferences to look for remote speakers. The Airport Express device is "up and running" and glowing a continuous green which tells me it recognizes the wireless Belkin Pre-N router which is the central router for 2 windows laptops, a mac mini and this iBook. The mac mini is hard wired to the router; all others are wireless. A couple of items worth noting: Airport Express has worked previously on the iBook. Prior to running the Belkin Pre-N...I was running a Linksys 802.11b router. In addition, the motherboard on this iBook was replaced by Apple earlier in the summer. The iBook was returned with no problem and the hard drive remained intact. I tried to follow D.Lovell's link (hats off...by the way, nice job) but did not get very far.I hardwired the iBook to the Belkin Pre-N router and established an internet connection. I then tethered the Airport express to the router via ethernet cable and powered up Airport Express. Flashing yellow ensued....no green. Per Lovell's instructions, I opened Airport Admin Utility and nothing is recognized here. If I hit rescan or find other, another window pops up asking for IP address and password. Perhaps I am wrong here but I enter the IP address the router assigns to the IBook but I have no password to enter as Ive never associated a password with this router. This is as far as I can go in the process. Do I have an Apple issue? A Belkin issue? I feel as though I am close to solving this ....and its all the more frustrating that it worked previously...No firewall software runs in the background. Help????????

If when the Airport Express is cabled to one of the ethernet LAN ports on your Belkin wireless router, and the Airport Express doesn't within a short period of time show a solid green status light, then the next thing I would do is a factory default reset of the Airport Express per:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108044
If the problem persists then one of the following has happened:
    - you have a defective Airport Express
    - you have a defective ethernet cable connecting the Airport Express to the Belkin router
    - the LAN port the Airport Express is cabled to on the Belkin router is defective

  • ITunes cannot connect to remote speakers / Airport Express

    Hi Guys
This is a quick post with a problem & solution.
I've been searching for ages tonight to find a solution to my problem:
'iTunes suddenly cannot connect to my Airport Express Speakers" and could not find one answer on here, only a mixture of replies all over the net.
So, just incase some people are still looking for an answer:
    What I did...
    1. Go to System Preferences, Network.
    2. Click Advanced, on the TCP/IP tab, set "Configure IPv6" to Off.
Open up Airport Utility, go to the Music tab, set a password (I did this just for the sake of seeing whether iTunes noticed that the Airport was now password protected, then atleast you know it's talking!)
    3. Open iTunes, go to preferences.
    4. Click on the devices tab, untick "Look for remote speakers connected with Airplay, Allow iTunes control from Remote Speakers, Forget All Remotes.
    5. Close iTunes
    6. Open iTunes, retick "Look for remote speakers connected with Airplay, Allow iTunes control from Remote Speakers, Forget All Remotes.
    7. Connect to remote speakers worked!

    thanks Simius,
I just tried what you said to do, i had it in Automatic, but when I momenterely switched to manual the fields were all blank so I left them that way and turned on to automatic as you said and left it in auto, then tried to change itunes speaker to remote airplay and it didn t work.
so i don t know what else to do, I read alot about this in the last few days the bug seems to be related to the newest itunes upgrade and with the presence of the IP6V not turned off completely.
in the old system one could turn it off completely, now the off button is gone.
there are work around using terminal, I tried that but it doens t recognize my commands, so it didn t work either.
    anybody has any idea?
    thansk a lot
    D.

  • Cannot hear my remote speakers in itunes thru Airport Express?

Anyone have this problem, I set up my Airport Express last week and everything worked correctly. I was able to set up a network, print and listen to music wirelessly. However, over the weekend since installing itunes 8, my remote speakers wont work with the airport express. i keep getting (unknown error -15000} and my speakers seem to make a crackle. Im still able to get to the web, and print on my AE. Ive checked all the problems, everything is plugged in, i reset up the network, used the airport utility, the AE is still in the same place , it has not been moved. At bottom of itunes, it says it will play music thru AE and not computer. Please help If I cant play my itunes wirelessly, my new macbook is almost useless.

i'm having the same problem, there used to be an icon in the lower right hand corner to connect to my airport express and it doesn't exist anymore, i tried shutting down, unplugging and plugging the airport express back in, but i still have no option to send music to it. any luck with yours?

  • Using multiple PC's as remote speakers?

I have a few PC's on my network at home. I also have a couple of airport expresses. I run I-tunes on each PC, sharing music throughout the house. From each PC I can stream music to multiple rooms using the airport express(es) as remote speakers.
What I want to do is also stream to other PC's as if they were remote speakers. I want other PC's in my network to show up as remote speakers so I can stream synchronous music to any room with a PC AND any room with an airport express.
    Can this be done??

    Hello.
Any feature requests can be submitted to the following links below
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/airportexpress.html
*With Airtunes you are able to stream music to multiple speakers meaning
    1. Multiple Airport Expresses connected to Multiple speakers
    2. Multiple Expresses connected to Speakers & also hearing the audio from the computer it is broadcasting from.
Now the bigger question I believe you are asking is can other computers pickup on this broadcast of sound?
Never tried it myself. I am not aware of iTunes being able to pickup the broadcast from the speaker selection in the bottom right hand corner. I am aware of it being able to broadcast it's sound to other speakers on the network though.
Hopefully other users can post their thoughts and how they got this to work. At this current time I know you can connect multiple expresses, and have it broadcast throughout the house based on where each express it is and the speakers they are connected to.

  • Upgraded iTunes9 & Tiger and now can't choose remote speakers.  Help?

I've tried a number of things recommended online to use my remote speakers again, but nothing has worked yet. In iTunes, "Look for remote speakers" is checked in Preferences. I can see them, but they're greyed out and I can't select them. The internet connection works fine through the Airport. I've tried turning off firewall, rebooting and turning it on again. iTunes Music Sharing is checked on the firewall.
I solved a separate network glitch caused by the Tiger upgrade by turning IPv6 to off in System Preferences>Network.
    Any ideas?

It's hard for anyone to offer any advice when you don't tell us what specifically is happening or not happening. Is there an error message? If so, what does it say? What version of Illustrator are you using? Does Illustrator open at all? Does it open regular Illustrator files? Have you reinstalled Illustrator?

  • ITunes 8 (WIndows) remote speaker problem: plays only (very) intermittently

Running iTunes 8.1.0.52, Windows XP, on an HP 2230s laptop (2.53 GHz Core2Duo). I can play audio through the computer's speakers, no problem. When I connect to my remote speakers (via Airport Express), audio plays for only a moment or two, then stops (for many seconds), then plays for a moment, then stops, and so forth.
(Using diagnostics I can see that both the network and the PC are running way below capacity during this faulty playback, so I'm confident that there is plenty of network and machine bandwidth available.)
I can drive those speakers, via Airport Express, from my wife's MacBook Pro flawlessly, so I'm confident that the network, the airport, and the speakers are fine.
I note that "hallfleming" posted a similar problem back in October 2008 (below) - no one responded then. I'm hoping that someone responds this time with some good advice!!!
    TIA

iTunes 8 plays remote speakers for a few seconds than stops
    Posted: Oct 17, 2008 2:55 PM
With 8 and 8.01, my remote speakers show up, I can start the stream, than several seconds later it stops. If I leave it alone, It try's to play after 30 seconds or a minute, then does the same thing.
Any ideas? It worked great before version 8. I'm running windows Xp media center.
    Thanks!

Try restarting the Bonjour Service. Go to Start/ Control Panel/ Administrative Tools/ Services. Select the Bonjour Service and click Restart Service. Then re-launch iTunes. The remote speakers drop-down should reappear. I have to do this everytime I login/logout of my company's VPN.

  • Why doesn't Apple TV automatically connect to remote speakers?

When playing any content in iTunes through my remote speakers connnected via my Apple TV and receiver it initiates but there is no sound.
I have to manually change the speakers in iTunes from Apple TV to computer and back again to Apple TV to make the connection to hear the sound through my surround system. This is just an annoyance and at least there is a solution. However, this worked fine with previous versions of either iTunes or the Apple TV software.

Experiencing the same issue.  Everything used to just work.  I'm up to date on *everything* and it's all apple devices (airport extreme, appletv, 2 macbook pro lion, iphone4s, ipad).
My gut says it's the AppleTV since it happens from both laptops that have itunes.
Let me know if you find a fix.

  • New iMac can't access remote speakers in iTunes

i use an airport express to play music from eMac to my stereo. This works fine. I just purchased a new iMac. I'm able to turn the Airport On in iTunes, and I can see my remote speakers, but the selection is grayed out. I've tried updating the firmware on the airport express, performing a soft reset, unplugging it, and nothing works. Thanks for your help!!!

Did you ever fix this? I am having the same issue!

  • Automate iTunes to Remote Speakers

A couple of years ago, I purchased an app Alarm Clock 2, from App Store, which has serviced my purposes until recently.  Up until now, my computer was in my bedroom and I used Alarm Clock 2 to play a Play List in the morning before my alarm went off.
Now that my computer is in another part of my home, I can't use this solution.  I have added a speaker system using AirPlay and for manual operation it works just fine.  However, if I use Alarm Clock 2 to start a play list at a preset time, it plays the list on the computer speakers EVEN IF I HAVE select Air Play in the running copy of iTunes on my iMac.  That is, I select my AirPlay speakers and manually run a play list and it plays through the remote speakers.  If I then have Alarm Clock 2 start a play list changing nothing else, it plays on the computer speakers even though iTunes window shows the AirPlay device still selected.  If I manually start a different (or restart the same) play list, it now plays on the remote speakers.
To summarize, what I want to do is
       1.  Run a play list at a time of day (waking the computer if necessary) and have the music output go to the AirPlay speakers.
    Any ides?
    Thanks,
    Bruce

Also posted in iTunes won't play through Airport...: Apple Support Communities
Some success. But Lion Server 10.7.3 is having trouble with the older g remotes now.
After setting up a few things while talking with Clarke at Apple Server Support we had a Lion 10.7 compatible version of Server Admin 10.7 installed and could reach the server firewall. Short answer: had to turn it off to get the aiport express remotes to accept streams from the server.
The new downside is that Airport Utility 6 can't deal with the older 802.11g airport express remotes. Further the server can't select them if they have been power cycled. The only way to get the server's copy of iTunes 10.5.3 to see the first two g remotes is to restart the whole server. Restarting iTunes isn't enough. Logging out and back in isn't enough. Haven't found a more surgical way to reconnect.
Need to try to punch only the necessary holes in the server firewall and use it instead.
I'd really love to see a very well documented description of the steps that iTunes goes through when connecting to airport express remotes with the differences when running on a server. ALL the steps, including handshaking and those high port numbers and just what keeps getting screwed up, like with the new 10.7.3 server update.

  • Using a PC running iTunes as remote speakers

I have two Airport Express in my house, which are great for playing music in different rooms remotely, powered by my primary PC in my office. However, I also am buying a PC for my living room to put above the fireplace. There is no room for another set of speakers for another Airport Express there, and I don't want to buy another one. What'd I'd like to do is use this new PC running iTunes as a set of remote speakers, recognized in iTunes like the Airport Express speakers. That way I could play the same music at the same time in many rooms of my house.
Does anyone know how to do this?
If not, consider this is a feature request, i hope Apple will give it consideration.
