ITunes 7 - No Sound?

CRAZY Frustrating! Upgraded to iTunes7 and now have no sound when trying to play anything through iTunes (no music, no podcasts, no videos, etc.) Can hear it just fine through the sub, but nothing through the speakers. Sounds work fine with any other application (Media Centre, system sounds, etc.) but only the sub through iTunes 7. WHat gives?
Seems like a number of users having similar problems (way to go Apple). Anybody found a fix yet?

PS. Using SB Audigy Sound Card. Used AutoUpdater on Creative.com. Drivers up to date.

OK. Here's where we are. First off, thanks for your help, b noir. Very much appreciate your efforts.
Now to the fix. After four hours on the phone with Apple support it would appear that iTunes7 understands the difference between my Line1 Out and Line2 Out on the back of my Soundblaster Audigy Sound card, and whereas all other applications send signals to both Line1 and Line2, iTunes7 sends signals only to Line1 and NOT to Line2. Not sure if this is a result of iTunes new Movie (so therefore 5.1 channel sound?) functionality or not, but this seems to be the issue (same problem for Quicktime 7.1.3).
PREVIOUSLY, speakers were routed through Line2 Out and the Sub was routed through Line1 Out.
FIX = plug in a splitter (typically used to split one headphone jack into two) to Line1 Out and route both speakers and Sub through Line1 Out. THIS should fix your problem.
Seems very simple now that you look at it, but not knowing where the issue existed was a 6 hour pain in the a$$. Bye bye weekend.
Good luck.

I cannot activate a ringtone which I prepared with Iringer. It appears in iTunes under sounds but doesn't appear in sounds on the iPhone!!!

if you created a ringtone, it should appear in the tone menu in itunes.
Is the ringtone 30 seconds or less?
Also I would check the iringer support site to resolve your issue.

  • When I export my song from Garageband off of my iPad to iTunes the sound quality is wrong, how do i fix this!?

Hey, I've read plenty of posts on how to fix this, but it's all for the Mac, and what they say is too turn off the auto-normalize, but there is no option for it on the ipad and I don't have a Mac...
I have exported it on all sound qualities, I have adjusted the low and high notes so they arent all that over powering, but it all keeps sounding the same
I would really love if I could have some help on this as I've spent months working on this piece of music and I really would love to have it on my mp3...
So some help would be greatly appreciated

I've just found out, that it sounds fine on my iphone when played through headphones, speakers or even stereo, its just when i play it on itunes, it sounds funny like when it hits lows it goes quiet as if it cant handle them...

When songs are playing in itunes the sound keeps pausing for brief moments and making little clicking noises. Any ideas how to fix this?

Error -36 is an I/O error, which could indicate a damaged Catalog file, corrupted bitmap or (even worse) a dying HD.
I would recommend to run Disk Utility and perform a 'Verify disk'.
If lots of errors are found, try to save as much files as possible to another disk.
Then perform a 'Repair disk'. Repairing a catalog file or bitmap might cause loss of files, that's why I recommend to verify first and save the files, before repairing.

I cannot get sound from the web, you tube, etc, however, my speakers are on and my itunes play sound? What gives?

    Hi,
    Try the following.
First, download the Flash uninstall utility on the link below and save it to your Desktop.
    Flash Player Uninstaller.
When the download has completed, close all browser windows and run the uninstaller.  After this has completed, restart the notebook.
Next, download and install Firefox and then using Firefox, download and install the latest version of Adobe Flash.
Close all browser windows before running the Flash installer.
Launch Firefox and see if Youtube videos etc play Ok - if they do, close Firefox, open IE and click on the same Adobe Flash link above to get a prompt to install the ActiveX component.  When done, restart IE.

  • ITunes 7 Sounds Crunchy and Thin

After moving to iTunes 7 all my songs sound crunchy and thin. Even at low volume. I don't have these sound issues when playing songs off the CD. . Even the pod-casts that I have on my computer sound different. Again, crunchy and thin. ( So I think this rules out a hardware problem, speakers, headphones etc )
This leaves me with an iTunes 7 problem.
    Any suggestions?

I read this somewhere online and it worked... I hadn't used itunes in months because my videos were playing distorted sounds (kinda choppy) I stopped buying tv shows and everything because I couldn't fix the problem. I updated to 7.0 and it was better, but now even my mp3's were distorted. So, I tried everything from this site and nothing worked until I did a search on dogpile for "Itunes distorted sounds." Here is what it said to do (from dukeybabes):
"Open up QuickTime and in the Audio tab, lower the sound quality settings to 48Khz/16 bit ( I used 32Khz).
If this doesn't work, try different combinations of settings (but still keep them a little lower). This has worked for me.
    Good luck.

  • Why does my iTunes suddenly sound like crap?

Up until today iTunes has sounded fine but all of a sudden it turned to crap. I havent changed any settings in months and havent updated in years since it always causes problems and each update gets worse and worse. Its almost like the EQ is way off but I didnt even know iTunes had an EQ feature until today and when I try to change it, it doesnt fix the problem. Same goes when I try to change the EQ and other features in the control panel.
Does anybody know what the problem is and how I can fix it? I wish there was another program that would sync my phone, im so tired of this **** from apple.

  • Some songs in library and on itunes store sound garbled

    Hi,
When I play certain songs that I previously purchased through iTunes or when trying to listen to some song fragments in the iTunes store, they sound really garbled or don't play at all...other songs are fine.
I'm using iTunes 9 on a new computer with Vista...but had the same problems with iTunes 8.2.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

I assume that the songs with this error have a "!" in front of them? If so, this usually happens when the iTunes music folder is moved or manipulated in some manner. Did you do anything with the iTunes music folder such as change its drive location?

  • ITunes 7 sound and playback problems

I downloaded iTunes 7 today and when I went to play a track I recieved hidious distortion from every track in my library. I have checked my speaker volume, system volume, iTunes volume and played other media players to see if the same problem came up with them and it did not. I also had iTunes running moments before I downloaded 7 with no problems so its definately 7 related. I have made sure the the equalizer in 7 is turned off and checked each and every setting to see if anything is messing it up and have not found anything. I have reintalled the software twice now as well. I run a Audigy 2 ZS and assume my drivers are up to date if not a fairly recent version.
I should also mention that I run Windows XP 64-bit and have all the Windows updates up to date. One thing I noticed is that the Music Store icons next to each song are only appearing when I have the song highlighted which may indicate some bugs as I know the arrows use to be next to each item in the window in the iTunes versions prior. I bring that up obviously because perhaps 7 isn't running well on XP-64 yet.
Any ideas on where I should start to troubleshoot this? The best description for the sound is a huge distortion filter where you can kind of make out the song behind layers of static and hiss. Its definately something to do with the software or its interation with my hardware and not nessicarly any volume settings that I can find.

Me too.... Just upgraded to iTunes V7. Now I cannot play anything from within iTunes. When playing a song, it is just garbled. You can hear the song enough to tell what it is. But it is severly distorted. More of a "repeating warbling" type sound. Like a scratched record that is playing the same section over a few times before moving on. Also, when I double click a song to play, it takes 12-15 seconds before any sound at all comes out.
In my other players, like Windows media, songs play just fine. All other audio seems OK. Just now cannot play anything in iTunes V7.
I have had iTunes since at least version 4 or 5, and upgraded everytime a new version came out. Each time with no issues until now.
    Using Windows XP, SP2
    2 Gig RAM
    2 Terabytes Data storage
    AMD 4800 Dual processor
Sound Card - Creative Emu 1212
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks...

  • Airplay won't show video of movie downloaded from itunes, only sound

i just got a new ipad mini. upgraded the OS. downloaded movie from itunes. video won't play on the tv, just the sound plays on the tv.
my other ipad is not having this problem.  The  IOS of the ipad has not been updated.
The appletv did just do any update this morning (in between me testing my ipad mini) and still didn't fix it.
any ideas? I still have 13 days to return this mini and get a regular one. any advice is appreciated.

    Hello mizgeministarz,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
I only have a few suggestions for you, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to at least try. Have you tried accessing these TV shows outside the playlist they reside in? Just access them from the main list of TV Shows if at all possible or if that isn't what you are doing currently.
It might not hurt to also try to restore the iPod and start from scratch allowing fresh copies of the TV Shows to sync over to your iPod. There may have been a syncing issue that corrupted your TV Shows. If that isn't the case, your iPod is having trouble with the video playback.
    Hope this helps.

  • ITunes and sound check

I updated to iTunes ver 7.1.1.5 recently. I have a problem with "Determining Song Volume" of all my library every time I open iTunes. It uses 100% CPU until I stop it.
I have already UNCHECKED Sound Check, that didn't seem help.
I reinstalled it again and that didn't help either. Is this a bug or is it just my Windows XP problem?
    thanks in advance.

    Hello,
I have to admit I've never used it but found this Macworld article a very useful explanation:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/44344/2005/04/soundcheckyou.html
iVolume which is linked to from the MW article should check all your files again and put the adjusted volume in the ID3 info.

  • L455-S5975 Itunes playback sounds sped up

Just got the L455 this week and the first app I installed was the latest version of Itunes.  Once I got all my music loaded into it,  I noticed the oddest thing.  All the songs sound like Alvin and the Chipmonks!  Everything sound sped up and at a higher pitch.  There are no settings in Itunes turned on (i.e. EQ, Crossfade, sound enhance) that would seem to affect this.  Couldn't find anything on the board either, so here we are.

I have a similar problem. I've owned the machine for just over a month and love it.
But now all sound coming out my L455-S5975 sounds like an echo chamber with the reverb cranked up.
    The driver is up-to-date.
    What could be the problem?

  • ITunes alert sounds

I'm trying to set up a Mac Mini as a living room media player. Sound is a real issue with the big speakers. Not with music, movies or any other media, they sound fantastic. It's iTunes propensity to ignore the System settings for much, MUCH quieter alert and interface sounds. The volume up/down feedback noises are deafening and I can't seem to find a way to force them to use the System settings, or to turn them down. Or, to even make a choice of feedback sounds, or the "Holy Grail" would be to shut them off completely! What am I missing here? Thanks.

If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

Also look at Settings>General>Sounds and make sure that all sounds have been turned on. And Settings>Notifications - check the settings in there for FaceTime and iMessage.

  • Airport Express appears as an option in iTunes but sound only plays on comp

I used to be able to play itunes music through my computer or through an amplifier connected to an Airport Express. Since upgrading to iTunes 8 there is a third option displayed in the lower right portion of the iTunes window, "multiple speakers", but now, no matter which option I select the music plays through my computer and not through the remote speakers connected to the amplifier. Any one else have this problem? Any solutions?
I have turned off IPv6 to no effect. The Airport Express seems to be functioning normally as a wireless network. I have changed the iTunes preferences with respect to controlling sound in remote speakers with no effect.

There is a 3.5mm standard headphone audio output on the bottom of the airport express. If you plug speaks or headphones into this port while airport express is selected in iTunes, you be able to hear your music. Usefull if your destop is in one room and you want to hear music from it in another room where the airport is located.
