ITunes 7 Overrides Speakers

I noticed a few other people were having trouble with the sound coming out of iTunes 7. I have a Sound Blaster Live! card with 4 speakers connected to it. In games, WinAmp or pretty much anything that plays sound it will come out of all four speakers. Diagnostics in the Creative utility work fine, and the font-to-back/L-R equilizer will isolate any of my four speakers. But somehow iTunes 7 has bypassed the portion of the Creative equilizer that sends sound to all four speakers. I can adjust any of the volume controls, but I can only get sound out of the front speakers, nothing out of the back. Can anyone make iTunes submit to WINDOWS?!?!
Dell   Windows XP Pro   700mHz; 384mb Ram

It works fine on my laptop, but thats got a newer
soundcard in it, and only 2 speakers. I'm just
running system restore (going back to older version
of iTunes on my desktop), and am going to recreate my
iTunes library, it was time for a clearout anyway.
I really do hope Apple to acknowledge this fault and
do something about it
I contacted Apple tech support about it and the tech that I spoke to said that he hasn't heard about this issue before. I told him that there are several threads that have users experiencing this same issue. He was able to find the thread and said he is researching the issue. He's supposed to get back to me in a couple of days and I'll let you guys know what the outcome is.
BTW, my soundcard is the built-in nForce2 MCP audio.

When I select multiple speakes in Itunes i get an error saying "an unknown error occurred (-3256)." I can select the remote speakers by them self and they work fine but when I select all speakers or multiple speakers I get the error message. what can I do?

Only firewall I have is what is standard on my mac, and if that is what your talking about, I do not know how you do that UDP traffic thing.

  • ITunes remote Speakers button and AppleTV (2nd gen)

Having followed the iTunes Help instruction "Choose which speakers to use" there is still no Speakers button appearing. I'm successfully using my wireless network for ATV2 and can watch movies, internet, and access my iMac Playlist, but am unable to use the ATV to play my iTunes selections from my iMac.

My apologies to Axel7 because you have diagnosed the problem correctly.
Even though I had set Airplay to 'On', somewhere along the way it has reverted to 'Off'. My error.
Straying outside my original question for a moment, ... to a certain extent it is too easy to blame a new product in the early stages when one is going through an unfamiliar process, so I'm reluctant now to assume that iTunes is waking itself up, but it is in fact awakening without my direct intervention. I've tried putting ATV2 to sleep, then restarting my computer to see if ATV2 woke up with a prod from Bonjour, but this does not seem to be the case.
So, either the unexpected wake-up is a feature that I don't know how to control, or there is a bug in the firmware. Most probably the former, but there is an open thread "Discussions > Apple TV (2nd generation) > Home Sharing with Apple TV" with 52 entries from people with problems, so there could be a real glitch to be fixed.
    Thanks again Axel7.

  • How to hide an Express in iTunes Multiple Speakers list

Hi, I'm running a wi-fi and Airtunes network in my Brooklyn Loft that I'm very happy with: 1 Airport Extreme creating the wi-fi network, and 4 different Airport Expresses, each connected to a separate stereo. It all works beautifully, and Airtunes can even be controlled with the iPhone "Remote" app, controlling the playing of iTunes from different MacBook Pros on the network. It's great.
So I bought a 5th Airport Express and set up a WDS network and added that 5th Express as a "remote" station to extend the WDS Network. It's set to WDS Remote. I plugged in the right "channel" and Airport ID for the Extreme base station, and it seems to work great for when we're sitting near it with our iPhones (which is way too far from the base station Airport Extreme for good wi-fi reception).
The problem is, this 5th Airport Express, which I'm using to extend the wi-fi network, shows up in my Multiple Speakers list in iTunes. And when I'm on the iPhone, changing speakers when moving around the loft, if I accidentally tap on the icon for this 5th Airport Express, all *$&#^ seems to break loose. iTunes goes nuts, the speakers list crashes, and I usually have to take the Express offline, completely wipe it, reboot the base station Airport Extreme, completely reconfigure the 5th Airport Express, and after 3 hours of this, hey, I'm just a little tired, if you catch my drift.
So is there a way to HIDE an AE in that Multiple Speakers list in iTunes? I hope so Because I don't think the device will work as both extending the wi-fi network AND being an AirTunes node, and its role in extending the network is creating this small, weird problem for using AirTunes.
Thanks for any thoughts or help on this!

Either connect to the AX's wireless network or connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then using the AirPort Utility in "Manual Setup" mode, make the following change:
    Music tab
    o Enable AirTunes (unchecked)
o Click Update to write the new settings to the AX

  • Accessing iTunes connected speakers using Remote on iPhone

Can anyone help me with this? When I first installed the Remote app on my iPhone I was able to connect to iTunes select the music and then select the speakers I wanted it to be played through (using speakers connected to airport express'). Since I've upgraded to iTunes 8 and Remote 1.2 I can't see the speakers within the Remote app although it connects to iTunes fine and I can start and stop music etc and from the computer I can select the speakers fine through the iTunes interface. Seems to be Remote can't now select speakers, can anyone help? Am I being a complete muppet in some way?
    TIA

It's moved. It's no longer in the Settings section of Remote. When you are viewing the Now Playing tap the screen which shows you where you are in the song. Down the bottom it says Speakers. Tap that. You will get your speakers listed.

  • Itunes, remote speakers and airport express

I have recently upgraded to os 10.4.11 from 3.9. Suddenly iTunes cannot connect to my remote speakers through my airport express. The option appears but is "greyed out" and cannot be selected. As my husband is able to connect with his computer, I'm guessing the airport express and the speakers are not the problem. I am likewise having a problem printing through my airport express. Unlike 10.3.9, Tiger does not offer my canon ip 5000 as a specific choice and offers a generic driver instead...what to do?? Many thanks in advance for any help.

I am having the EXACT same problem since upgrading from 10.3.9 to 10.4.11 - nothing works. I have checked all cords and connections, reconfigured the airport, rebooted my computer, gone in and out of iTunes, selected and deselected and reselected the find remote speakers button in preferences. The crappy thing is that the whole reason I got the remote speakers was so I could listen to music in the kitchen while cooking. Now I have to cook for 45 people and no music in the kitchen (complete other end of apartment) - gee. great.

  • Internet radio thru   iTunes to speakers connected to Express

I want to listen to Internet radio on a remote amplified speaker.
So how do I create the following topology?
    Online radio(MP3)--internet--ethernet--MAC(itunes)--Express--speaker
I can play the radio(MP3) on the MAC local speakers.
When I tell iTunes to select the Express I loose the ethernet connection to the radio.

To set up AirTunes on the AirPort Express Base Station (AX), using the AirPort Admin Utility, connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, try these settings:
    AirPort tab
    - Base Station Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
    - Wireless Mode: Join an Existing Wireless Network (Wireless Client)
    - Wireless Network: <select the existing wireless network>
    Music tab
    - Enable AirTunes on this base station (checked)
    - Enable AirTunes over the Ethernet port (optional)
    - iTunes Speaker Name: <whatever you wish>
    - iTunes Speaker Password (optional)
    In iTunes:
    iTunes > Preferences... > Advanced > General
    - Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes (checked)

  • Why does itunes override default settings for windows 7?

something is seriously wrong with my windows 7 / itunes interface.
when i click 'listen live' on kpfa (the ONLY station on which this happens), instead of going to my default setting for winamp, itunes jumps in and starts itself.
THIS IS NOT WHAT I WANT!  i have tried everything possible to make sure the defaults are correct, even going so far as to uninstall/re-install itunes to no avail.  *** is itunes up to?  when i want to use it, i will start it myself...and when and why did this change happen?  this computer belongs to ME, not apple, not itunes.  making changes to my computer without permission is ********.  why can't i fix this?

  • Itunes external speakers and airport express

cant connect to airport express in itunes. airport express is working as I am wifi on the net. Base station is showing in itunes but is greyed out and not allowing me to choose it as an option for speakers

You're probably right... I found Airfoil on the net after having posted the question, and read about the delay in the FAQ. I didn't ever try it with Skype as I imagined it would be as you said. Two secs is more than I feared though. Conversation between the earth and a spaceship is just about what it would be.
Sad though. It is soooo nice to have Skype in the hifi set. Like a conversation with someone in the same room. Now I will have to connect that cable again. Thought I had removed one of those annoying things on the floor for ever...

  • ITunes overriding music syncing selections for iPhone

I have iTunes set up to Sync Selected playlists, then I have some of them checked. What is not checked in particular is my enormous Audiobooks folder, instead I have a separate playlist of books I'm currently listening to. For 2 months the syncing worked perfectly, and then about a week or so ago it suddenly started downloading most of my entire audiobooks library without any provocation - I've double checked my selections in the music tab and everything is the same as usual, Audiobooks is NOT checked, and under the Summary tab 'sync only checked songs and videos' is checked. Any idea what is happening?! Thanks

Thanks for answering, but maybe I wasn't clear in my request - I do NOT want my entire audiobooks folder downloaded and that appears to be what's happening (my itty bitty iPhone drive is now maxed with a bunch of stuff I didn't want on there).

  • ITunes: Multiple Speakers

I have an old AirportExpress, that doesn't support Multiple Speakers. Do I have to buy a new one or can I change the settings / update the software?

  • Music interrupts when using iTunes & remote speakers via Airport Express

Like many other I have had this problem.
    Short version:
It disappeared when I turned of a wireless network expander and was only running the network with the wireless router and Airport Express on.
    Long version:
I had the folowing setup. One Linksys wireless router, one Linksys access point configured as wireless repeater (to extend the range of my network). About in the middle my Airport Express is located. When I disconnected the Wireless Repeater the problem disappeared. My conclusion is that Airport Express was switching between the two "base stations" and that was when the interruption was created. Anyone else who has about the same setup and do experience the problem that can verify by disconnecting everything except the wireless router?

The trouble you are reporting sounds like WiFi connection probs. Signal quality and strength is just not sufficient to ensure a constant and high enough data transfer. I would recommend to do some test with AP and computer being rather close to each other. Its may a good idea to switch from WEb to WPA encryption.

  • Possible to make speakers connected to a Mac available to remote iTunes?

    Hi,
So with my current setup it's pretty nice. I've got my iMac in my bedroom that holds all of my music, my mac mini in my living room that is my media center. I've also go an airport express next to my iMac so that I can play music synchronously in my living room and my bedroom.
My question is that if it is possible to have the speakers connect to the local mac appear in the iTunes remote speakers menu on other macs. I hope that makes some sort of sense?
    Regards,
    Ken

    Anyone?

  • Playing music - airplay/itunes/speakers - haven't got a clue!

    Hi,
I think this is a simple question.  I want to replace my very old hifi which I use for cds and radio.
I think that one solution might be to connect my mac book pro to something/hifi/speakers meaning that I can play my cd collection which is imported to itunes.
Do I need a specific hifi or does it connect using standard leads?  What is airplay and would this mean that I can connect wirelessly to speakers?  What would I need to set this up?
Will airplay + macbook pro/itunes + any speakers replace the need for a hifi?
Thank you very much - I am so confused!

  • 7.1 Speakers with iTunes 7 not working

With my old iTunes, my speakers worked fine. However as soon as I upgraded, the only speakers that work are 2.1. The other 5 of my speakers do not produce any sound. I've done a search and nothing has been productive so far.
Anyone know a fix or why it does this?

I was ****** too and came here for an answer and saw your post, did some research and found this procedure.
Go to Start....then Run...and type in DxDiag...
From there, go to "Sound"...on the Direct Sound or Direct X turn the acceleration down to basic....
    It should work after that...
Then go to Ouicktime, Edit...Quicktime Preferences and set your surround to 5.1....
    Should work
