Itunes 7 problem seeing ipod

Since installing itunes 7, windows xp picks up my ipod and shows the folders as if it were a drive. Itunes does not, so I can not sync. I never had my ipod set up to be used as a hard drive so I don't understand this change in behavior.
I wish I never installed itunes 7. What a mess!!!
How do I get itunes to recognize my ipod besides rebooting my pc with it attached?

Hi Folks. I have the same problem with my Ipod 3. generation 20 GB. My iPod shows its folders as a harddrive in WinXP but Itunes 7 does not recognise my iPod. This is realy bad. But i've read in a german ipod forum called ipodfun.de that you have to stop the "iPod Service" in the WinXP Service interface before you start your iTunes7. After that your iTunes will find your iPod. But you have to do this for each time. I hope Apple will IMMEDIATELY publish a patch for this important bug.
This is not a realy good advertising for apple.

  • ITunes can't see iPod Classic

I have an iPod Classic (120 GB)
It asked me to recovery with iTunes.
When I connected it to iTunes it asked me to download last FW version,
but in that moment I had no internet connection,
so I choose to use the resident version.
Then the iPod has been recovered and it works. But obviously was empty.
After that, the computer see the iPod as a driver,
    but iTunes can't see it.
I try with another pc, and is the same.
The tutorial on Apple web site, give a lot of information to try to restore iTunes,
but my problem is not on iTunes, is on iPod!
There is a way to force iPod to recovery mode? Now I have the internet connection again...
    Thank You for your help
    (and sorry for my english)

Are these music videos located under Videos on your iPod?  Do it play other regular movies (if you have any on the device)?

  • Itunes can't see Ipod - what to do?

It might asimilar problem as many of you have posted. I purchased Ipod classic in dec. 2009 and it worked fine. Then yesterday I wanted to download some more music to put on my Ipod Classic. when I opened Itunes it said it had upgrades and I did the updates. After this nothing works! There are no songs anymore on my Ipod and when I connect it to my computer, the computer can see it and it says there are no error to the hardware, but itunes can NOT see it!! When I connect my Ipod to the computer Itunes do not work at all. I have tried to reset it as described in the manual and I have tried to reinstall itunes on the computer, I have tried it on a new computer and so on, but nothing works! HELP!
Have only had the Ipod for 2 months and it wont work anymore. Any suggestions how to cure this problem?
Thanks in advance for the help!

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • ITunes does not see iPod after last updates

It seems that many people have this same problem, but I do not see any solutions. I recently updated my iTunes to the latest version and did the iPod updaters. Since this, my computer at home and work no longer recognizes my iPod. I keep getting something asking me to restore my iPod, but i have a bunch of pictures on it that I do not have saved anywhere else. Doing a restore will erease everything on my iPod.
    please help.

    Well, that was annoying.
I just went through the same grief being reported by many other users here: I updated my iTunes on Windows XP, and it stopped recognizing my iPod. (Plugging in the iPod would actually kick off iTunes, but after coming up, iTunes refused to see the iPod.)
It's working again, and it did seem to be related to network drives. However, I wasn't very disciplined about trying a single step, seeing if it worked, then proceeding to the next step, so I can't guarantee which specific step(s) below that actually solved the problem.
    But for what it's worth:
    1. I recently (a day or two before updating iTunes) mounted a new network drive, assigned to drive "G:". My iPod has been "F:" since I first installed it.
    2. When iTunes stopped seeing my iPod after updating, I tried resetting the iPod's drive assignment to "H:".
(Unfortunately, I also tried everything else, including restoring the iPod to factory settings...it's now updating something like 1500 tracks.)
    3. Resetting the iPod's drive letter as suggested in another thread didn't seem to do anything by itself, however I ALSO UNMAPPED THE NEWER DRIVE ASSIGNMENT DESCRIBED IN STEP 1.
    4. Now here's the other stuff I did before trying it again, which may or may not have contributed to the fix:
    - I undocked (it's a laptop)
    - I moved the USB cable from the docking station
to one of the laptop ports
    - I rebooted
After doing this, I plugged in the iPod, and ALLELUIA BROTHERS AND SISTERS, it was RECOGNIZED ONCE MORE!
    Give me an AMEN.
Hope this helps somebody else to get going.

  • ITunes doesn't see iPods

starting last nite my iTunes doesn't see either iPod that always appeared when plugged in. I changed my connecting wire without any better results.

Bentley, try downloading and re-installing iTunes. I had a similar problem on my Macbook - I could see my iPod in the Finder but iTunes couldn't see it. I re-installed iTunes and voila, it was there.

  • Itunes does not see ipod, cannot sync

I actually found the answer, my computer (in my computer) was recognising the ipod as a hard drive device
I went to Control Panel, All Control panel items, Programs & Features.....Right clicked on iTunes.....the selected 'Repair'
Now I can see the Ipod in iTunes and sync

  • ITunes doesn't see iPod Touch

I recently had to restore my Mac from Time Machine. Most things work fine, but iTunes does not see my iPod Touch. I'm not sure, but I think this backup was made just before I updated the Touch to iOS 4. I don't know if that would make a difference or not. Any ideas on how I can get these two talking again?

    Same problem on my MacBook:
    - iPod Touch directly connected to the Mac (built in USB port)
    - iTunes 8.02
    - iPod Touch 8 GB with Version 2.2
From one day to the other iTunes does not recognize the iPod. First messages says ".. you have to unlock the iPod..." then (when done) Error message "0xe8000001" appears.
Could not find a solution for me, even i found many users with Problem "0xe8000001" but the found hints do not help.
I tried to reinstall iTunes, but this does not helped.
The iPod is recongnized on an other (not my) Mac/iTunes - but I want to have it connected /synchronized on my Mac.
I can remember, that I runned some SW updates from apple (as I do every time when updates are displayed) in the same time when the error occured, but I can not say if this can be the reason.
My idea was to restore the iPod - but how to do this without iTunes?
    Any idea?

WIndows ses the iPod as portable device, iTunes does not see it.
Any ideas on why I can't use iTunes with my touchi?  Has anyone hadluck with non apple softyware, seems apple has made a mess of itunes on this version.  I've been throught multiple threads on reinstalling and with tweaks.  I've read the apple device is faulty in this latest version, any news on when this fault will be fixed?  Love to hear from an Apple person on this.  Samsung is looking more and more attractive.

  • Frozen in "Do Not Disconnect" iTunes doesn't see iPod

I have never had one bit of trouble with my iPod until today. I plugged it in, the Do Not Disconnect comes up, the clock is frozen, no charging happening and iTunes doesn't see the iPod. I tried the "restart" and nothing is working. What do I do?
I haven't upgraded to iTunes 8.1 yet, would that help?
    HELP!

OK, so I tried the Reset again. Still didn't work. THEN I saw this:
    Tip:
+If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.+
Tried it again and now it's all better.

  • ITunes 7 problem (updating iPod)

I keep my music (all of it classical) on my iPod, and I want it organized in as rational a way as possible (which is not wonderful, given the limited sorting possibilities allowed by iTunes, but I digress...)
When I mount the (new, video, 5G, 80 Gb) iPod, I can set the columns to those I actually want to see and choose to sort by composer. However, every time I restart or otherwise remount the iPod, the default view has been restored, and I have to go through this all over again.
Further, while the iPod is mounted and playing, I keep getting a dialog saying that the iPod cannot be updated, because "the required file is in use." Naturally, it does not tell me what file is in question, so there's no way I can see to fix this. I don't actually want the iPod to be updated in any way apart from the browser view, and have tried to set things up (not) to do this.
I tried trashing the preferences file, but that had no effect on this problem. Can anyone point me to a solution, or at least give me a hint about what file may be "in use" that is screwing things up?
    Thanks,
    Steve Anderson
PowerBook, PowerMac, XServe   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Others have reported the problem with defaulting on the view for iPods.
Classical music is underserved by the whole iTunes/tag/CDDB system (which in fairness to Apple they've inherited somewhat - I just wish they'd push to fix it).
My personal fix to it is to use Playlists - with a format of Composer | Work | Artist/Conductor | (year) | (Label)
With some repetition/omission as needed, and lots of abbreviation.
I appreciate that might not address your problem - but may provide a way of sidestepping it. Good luck regardless in finding a way forward

  • ITunes doesn't see iPod (Vista 64-bit)

I connect the iPod touch to the computer and it charges, (duh-duh noise as if it's connected) but it doesn't appear in iTunes.
I have tried it on Windows XP pro SP3 64-bit partition on my computer, and on Windows Vista 32-bit laptop and both work fine.
However, here's a list of things that I've tried on Vista 64-bit to get it to work:
-Uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, Quicktime, the bonjour service, apple mobile device support, apple software update, apple application support etc in the order stated by Apple on here. I have then even deleted all folders that weren't removed with the uninstall.
-Holding the power and home button on the touch itself to reset the settings.
-Forcing device manager to display iPod as USB controller.
-Stopping and starting the iPod service under 'Services'.
    -Connecting in recovery mode.
    -Updating iTunes and QuickTime etc.
    -Changing USB cables
I've even tried connecting an iPhone to the computer (running Vista 64-bit OS) and that doesn't connect.
So I know it's something wrong on the OS and not the iPod or the cable. The computer's fine as the XP partition works fine with it.
    Got any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

I do indeed install iTunes64-bit version. After much deliberation I decided to upgrade to Windows 7 to see if this fixed the problem before I did a complete re-install (as I didn't want to lose all my programs etc).
After I installed the Windows 7 upgrade (from Vista - Windows 7 just to clarify) it works perfectly. Installed first time with no problems.
I recommend this technique to anyone who can't figure it out and doesn't want to fork out an extra £240 for an iPod Touch again. It's a cheaper way of doing it anyway, if you pay for such software that is...

  • Itunes does not see Ipod

I installed 10.6.8 and upon opening, Itunes showed no device in the column on the left. My fully charged touch OS 5.1.1 does show up in Iphoto, so the cable and link is good just nothing in Itunes and the sync option under file is gray. Any suggestions?

    hi Bob!
If I go to my computer I see the ipod and I can open it, see the hard drive and the files on the drive. I tunes does not open and when I open it manually the ipod does not show up.
b don't go playing around with your registry!
this is not obviously an itunes 6.0-specific problem ... it's not usually even a sign of an installation error ...
we'd better start by checking where you are in the troubleshooting process. have you worked through this document?
