ITunes 7 shutting computer down

Ever since I downloaded iTunes 7, whenever I attempt to sync my iPod it says the playlists cannot be found. Then when I try to add the playlists and update the sync mode, it shuts my computer down. iTunes also shut my computer down when I tried to update the software on my iPod. I didn't have any problems until I upgraded to ver.7. Any ideas or suggestions???

As for your computer shutting down when iTunes is open... You may want to post in the iTunes forum or search the Discussions and see if anything similar has come up, and if there are any solutions.
Do you ever have iTunes open when the iPod is not connected? If so, does your computer shut down? Or does it only shut down when you connect your iPod?

    Hello Kking317
If any application is stuck, you can Force Quit the application and then you can restart.

  • Virus scan wont complete - shuts computer down

I try to keep my computer as clean as possible, but no matter what I do, there are CONSTANT issues with these things.  Im on my third thinkpad now, the T430, and this one is no exception.  Several glitches have begin to arrise and when I do a Malwarebytes Anti-malware scan, it shuts my computer down when it gets to around 180000 files scanned.  Could this be a virus doing it?  I have re-formatted to factory settings several times, but no windows OS disk to do a re-install.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks all, have a great night.

    Looking at your first post.
What do you mean "re-formatted to factory settings"?
If you created the recovery DVD's you can do a clean install but I would wipe the partitons first before installing it again. If you did not created them. You'll have to order a set.
What OS are you using? You may have a driver issue but there isn't anywhere near enough information. All I can say is to do a clean re-installation from the Lenovo DVD's for that model and test and take if from there. If Malware crashes it in Enhance Normal mode you likely have a hardware problem. But do the test before any other software is installed. It should run normally with the factory image installed.

  • SECURITY DOWNLOAD Adobe reader 9.3.1 Shut computer down?

I downloaded as prompted for a security adobe reader 9.3.1. Then restarted computer as instructed. It shut my computer down with error bad_poop_header. stop: 0x00000019 (0x00000020, 0xE1982000,0xE1982108, 0x0c210200). What is wrong with this download on window xp?

Even if you spelled it right or wrong, we have no idea what it represents. The data would have to be put into a compiler of the program to find the error. Since you have the free Reader (as everyone has said, related to the Reader forum, not this one), it is probably simplest to simply uninstall the current version, use the MS install cleanup utility to clean your system, then download Reader fresh and install again.

  • Currently on Mountain Lion. Tried to upgrade to Yosemite. Computer is now locked onto OSX installation page. No access to finder or anything. Have to push off button to shut computer down.

iMac running Mountain Lion.... Yesterday, I tried to upgrade to Yosemite. System seemed to be upgrading. However, the OSX installation window is now frozen on the computer with the blue bar showing installation complete. I do not have access to even the finder. Force quitting with keys is not working. The only way I can shut the computer down is to hold down the on/off button. Restarting brings up the same frozen OSX installation window. What to do?

    There are three ways:
    A. Reinstalling Yosemite, Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
    B. Install or Reinstall from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Yosemite: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
    C. Internet Recovery
Install OS X Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Yosemite: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

  • Is it harmful to always leave several programs open and never shutting computer down?

I never shut down my computer and simply let it to sleep.  I also let it sleep and leave several programs like illustrator open all the time.  Is this good for the computer or should I be closing down applications regularly?

If your system is powered through an uninterruptible power
source, there is no issue at all.
If not, there is always the possibility of something going bad
should a power outage occur.  This is true whether apps are
open or not.  Modern systems can recover from such an event,
but nothing is totally bulletproof to such an event.

  • Shutdown restarts after a few minutes and sleep shuts computer down.

When I shutdown my computer, the shutdown process starts, computer goes into "logging off"  and continues for a few minutes before restarting automatically. When I go into "sleep mode" ,  computer appears to go into the proper mode, but a few minutes later, shuts down. When I log on again, Windows advises that I had an abnormal shutdown.  Sleep and shutdown appear to have reversed for some reason.

    Hello hankaree,
Knowing what model computer you are using and what operating system you have will allow me to provide you with exact instructions if needed, however try disabling all non Microsoft applications to startup on the computer and put the computer in a clean boot state.
    1. Click on start
    2. Type in the search field or click on the run application depending on your OS
    3. Type MSCONFIG
    4. When the mosconfig window comes up click on the startup tab
    5. Disable all
    6. Reboot
    7. Test
If the system behaves as normal then we can start enabling things to see if we can find what is causing the issues. If the problem persists we can start trying to looking at other solutions.

  • Command to shut computer down when an application task is complete.

Hi, I'm pretty new to Automator. I was wondering if there was a way I could set it up so my iMac either goes to sleep or shuts down once a task, such as exporting a video with Compressor or Final Cut Pro, has completed.
    thanks,

  • Firefox thinks its running but not responding shut computer down won't clear deleted and reinstalled still won't clear , what next?

I have seen this error before and normally if you close down you system and restart it will clear up but not this time. I even uninstalled and reinstalled firefox. started this morning when facebook went down for maintaince. that was about 8 it 2 now and I still can't clear it what can I try next?

    See
    * [[Firefox is already running but is not responding]]
Try closing any running instances of ''firefox.exe'' (and plugincontainer.exe) using something such as Task Manager. That should allow you to then restart Firefox.
As for iLivid. Possibly it also has associated apps or extensions with names not including the word iLivid. Looking at their own FAQs there are instructions to remove iLivid using the Windows Control panel, and mention of other bundled software that you may wish to remove. It seems it is more of a nuisacne rahter than out and out malware.
    * see http://www.ilivid.com/faq.htm (page scrolls for more info) but includes:
How do I uninstall the software?
The software can be removed in a simple was like any other software:
Go to the Windows Start menu and then to Control Panel > Add/Remove ("Programs & Features" in Vista & Windows 7) and click "Remove" next to the software name (e.g iLivid Download manager / Windows iLivid Toolbar ).
During the installation bundle software are offered, each can easily be removed following those instructions: Uninstall Yontoo Addon , Uninstall Search Toolbar (powered by Bing) or Uninstall Babylon.

  • Disk Restore Shuts Computer down

Ok, I've got the iBook g3 like the green and blue mix. I have 9.2 running on it right now but I want to completely wipe it out so I insert the Mac os 8.6 original restore disk (Orange). I hold the C button on start-up and watch it load off the CD. Now when it just shows the toolbar from the desktop and battery indicator the computer shutdowns, (screen flashes) Now I have tried the process many times and it hasn't worked. Anyone know what's up?

Well I don't know if I can help or not but I can try. Since I am not up on OS 9 or OS8 or your iBook, I'm going to have to extrapolate from what I do know of OS X and hope that what I say will be relevant. I feel bad that you haven't been able to get any real help so far, so I will try, but in all honesty, I will be going pretty far out on a limb here.
Not being familiar with this particular iBook, I'm not sure I entirely understand what you are doing. I gather that you want to erase your startup disk and install OS 8.6.
I assume that you have Disk Utility. Before starting out, did you go to Disk Utility and verify the start up disk and repair if necessary? If you have Disk Utility and can do this, that would be good to do.
As I understand it, you cannot install an older system over a newer one--you have to erase the newer system first. You can do this with Disk Utility, or your Install Disc #1 might give you that option. So you have to be sure you erase OS 9 before you try to install OS 8.6.
After installing OS 8.6, you need to go to Disk Utility again and verify both permissions and the disk and repair if necessary.
If you have an Apple Hardware Test it also wouldn't hurt to run that, just on general principles. Just to be sure there isn't a hardware problem giving you difficulties.
All this is just general advice which I hope pertains to your situation and will help. If it isn't, maybe one of the more knowledgeable and experienced members of the forum will be incensed enough at what I have written to be inspired to post something more helpful to you.
    Good luck!

  • Imprting cd tracks shuts my computer down after Itunes upgrade

Updated to the latest Itunes 6.5. Anytime I try to rip songs and add them to my playlist, it shuts my computer down. Was not a problem on previous version of Itunes. I've tried 10 different cds and each one does the same thing. Any suggestions, or anyone know how to download an older version of Itunes? I searched the site, but it keeps sending me to the download page for Itunes 6.5. Thanks

Sounds like some conflict in your system. Try going to the PC makers site, MANUALLY looking for updates to your model and downloading all updates they offer, especailly BIOs, chipset and firmware for the CD ROM.
I say to manually look because some PC makers have some kind of "Auto update" software on the PC or there web site and they usually can not pick up the BIOs and things like it so even if theres an update you need it won't show it
Do you get any flash of a blue screen with an error code when this happens?

  • When I start iTunes on my home computer (Not a MAC), it automatically shuts down, and gives me the message that the Data Execution Prevention security feature has shut it down...what to do?

When I start iTunes on my home computer (Not a MAC), it automatically shuts down, and gives me the message that the Data Execution Prevention security feature has shut it down...what to do?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it, which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • Can't import cds onto itunes without computer crashing/shutting down

hi, everytime i try burn cd's onto itunes my computer either freezes or appears to shut itself down but seems to be still running, i had a similar problem when playing computer games, after a while the whole system would appear to shut down but would be still running (the screens black and nothing can be done until i literally turn it off at the plug then reboot). I think its the converting into "AAC" files it has problems with but im not sure. But if anyone can help me with this problem itd be great, cheers. (p.s. here are my computer specs.)
