ITunes 7 sound and playback problems

I downloaded iTunes 7 today and when I went to play a track I recieved hidious distortion from every track in my library. I have checked my speaker volume, system volume, iTunes volume and played other media players to see if the same problem came up with them and it did not. I also had iTunes running moments before I downloaded 7 with no problems so its definately 7 related. I have made sure the the equalizer in 7 is turned off and checked each and every setting to see if anything is messing it up and have not found anything. I have reintalled the software twice now as well. I run a Audigy 2 ZS and assume my drivers are up to date if not a fairly recent version.
I should also mention that I run Windows XP 64-bit and have all the Windows updates up to date. One thing I noticed is that the Music Store icons next to each song are only appearing when I have the song highlighted which may indicate some bugs as I know the arrows use to be next to each item in the window in the iTunes versions prior. I bring that up obviously because perhaps 7 isn't running well on XP-64 yet.
Any ideas on where I should start to troubleshoot this? The best description for the sound is a huge distortion filter where you can kind of make out the song behind layers of static and hiss. Its definately something to do with the software or its interation with my hardware and not nessicarly any volume settings that I can find.

Me too.... Just upgraded to iTunes V7. Now I cannot play anything from within iTunes. When playing a song, it is just garbled. You can hear the song enough to tell what it is. But it is severly distorted. More of a "repeating warbling" type sound. Like a scratched record that is playing the same section over a few times before moving on. Also, when I double click a song to play, it takes 12-15 seconds before any sound at all comes out.
In my other players, like Windows media, songs play just fine. All other audio seems OK. Just now cannot play anything in iTunes V7.
I have had iTunes since at least version 4 or 5, and upgraded everytime a new version came out. Each time with no issues until now.
Using Windows XP, SP2
2 Gig RAM
2 Terabytes Data storage
AMD 4800 Dual processor
Sound Card - Creative Emu 1212
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks...

  • HT4623 Sound and other problems with Ipad 3 after ios 6.1.3 update

I purchased Ipad 3 last year and got problem of losing sound when I restored the Ipad throgh itunes. The sound came back automatically after I charged the device to 100%. Recently I got the same problem when the operating system was Ios 6.1.2 and then i got updated it to ios 6.1.3. The problem has not been solved while has been added up. Now the Ipad operation is slow, its either freezes and crashes frequently. Once it gets in sleep mode then it does not come back untill i press power button and home button togehter for sometime. I have checked all settings like mute and have restored the ios multiple times on two separate PCs but the problem is still there. Please help me what i need to do next.

Try a reboot of your ipad. Hold the Sleep/Wake button and Home button simulataneously. Keep holding, ignoring the red slider, until the Apple logo appears. Release the buttons and let the ipad restart. A reboot often fixes numerous problems.
Also are you aware that by suncing with a different computer it is likely the personal stuff you had on your ipad from your imac will be removed?
The ipad is designed to sync with only one device.

  • IMac 20" sound and other problems

My dad has just bought me a 20" intel iMac for my 18th birthday, and has let me have it 2 weeks early, and I love it!
But yesterday i ran into various troubles. I turned my mac on, hearing the usual startup chime, but there was no sound at all coming from the internal speakers as soon as I got into Mac OS (fully updated as well as firmware 1.01) e.g. playing a song on itunes. Absolutely nothing.
When I plugged in my usual external speakers into the headphone jack, the sound was unusually low, and when turning the external speakers up there was a very distinct crackling sound along with the music that was playing.
This, I thought, was just a minor problem that could be easily rectified. That was until my screen went a dark transparent grey with a multilingual message telling me that I needed to restart my computer. So I did, and mac os booted up again telling me that Mac Os had encountered an error. I sent a report to apple at this point too. Then the screen went transparent grey again telling me to restart.
This continued, and I decided to quickly back up my files to a nearby pc (I'm recently converted to Macs), and I inserted my Mac Os install disk. I knew what I was doing as I'd formatted a few days ago due to accidently erasing my mac partition whilst trying out bootcamp . I did a full erase of the mac harddrive, and started the install process, when the grey screen happened again! This led me to beleive it wasnt a software fault. I restarted and attempted to install again. This time no grey screen, but a horrible noise came from the under the bottom left of the screen like a violent clicking. I turned the mac off straight away. I booted up again and installed Mac OS without any errors.
Still, no sound and still the grey screen popped up. I finally decided to phone Apple up with the number from the applecare box. The man on the other end guided me through various diagnostic procedures, getting me to hold applealt+RP, and got me to reinstall mac os, at which point we hung up.
Mac OS worked fine this time with no grey screens, but the sound still didnt work. I phoned applecare up again and a woman showed me the sound pane in system properties. The Output listing didnt show internal speakers at all and just showed Line Out. Well all in all my mac is in the same state right now, apart from I keep getting more and more grey screens, and it seems to be really unstable when trying to install software updates for example.
The woman on the phone arranged to have it repaired, but I was wondering whether anyone had any clue as to whats going on with my mac.
I'd really appreciate any ideas or comments about it. I'm sorry about the length of this post too!

    hey rob,
if your machine was okay, up to the point of your 'experiment' with installing windows, it looks like your problems stem from a dodgy reinstall after the bootcamp attempt [i did the same thing, duing the formatting prep for windows, erased the os x partition bahhh]...i reinstalled and i haven't had any problems since[trying to find a slipstreaming scheme with the older xp pro disk i have].
importantly, though is this clicking sound, not good.
i'd like to know, through looking in the apple system profiler what brand HDD your machine came with. there would be letters designating western digital, seagate or maxtor.
it may be, that this component is faulty. imho i'd prefer one brand over another that apple uses, other threads on the subject have different opinions about that...; ^]

  • Itunes sound and Media player sound

Perhaps this topic has been posted dozens of times but still I got a question.
I believe that media player has a very neat and nice sound while iTunes are more loud and not so deep. even if I make equilizer default. So the question.
Is it possible to male itunes sound to be so nice as Media Player?

I am not sure if there is an answer to your problem, but in the past I felt that both WMP and RealPlayer had slightly better sound than iTunes.
I did find that updating my audio drivers noticably improved the iTunes sound, so that is all I can suggest.

  • Sound and connection problems

    Hello.
I own a Ipod Touch 16gb, purchased January last year (i believe it's 2nd gen).
The iPod had worked fine for almost a year until the problems started, at first it would just freeze in 30min-1hour, and then work fine again. But in January (2010) the problems got serious. It started with that the iPod would play sounds and being very slow when trying to play. The only sound there came out of it (both speaker and headphones) where scratching sounds in a very low volume. To hopefully solve the problems i connected the iPod to my Windows computer (which it's syncronized with). The computer reconised that a USB item was connected (the "dong" sound) but iTunes didn't.
Therefor i choose the reset the iPod completeley and delete everything on it.
This worked until now, where the problems has occured again.
The first time the iPod showed problems in January (2010) it was send to Apple, where it was checked for flaws (both hardware and software), but nothing was found.
Currentley im reseting the iPod once again in hope of getting it normal, but im afraid it will happend again.
Any ideas of what the problem is, and how it could be solved?.
    Kind Regards

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you’re running into a Bluetooth connection issue since upgrading your iPhone 5 to iOS 8.1. The interoperability of devices manufactured by different companies can sometimes be frustrating. Try taking a look at the two articles below, they will resolve most issues like the one you described.

  • Encoding and playback problem HD files

    Hi all,
Currently, I'm using a new HD camcorder and have no problem with importing and playing these files is premiere cs4 pro. However, when I'm using six video track at the same time I experience some playback problems. After rendering, the video's play, but not smooth, they  skip frames and playing a few frames back. In other words, it seems that the video playback stutters. The problem still excists when I encode the project to any file (mpeg2-blu ray, avi, etc). When using two video tracks (with two HD video) this problem is not present, even when these video's are in slowmotion. Installing the new update (4.2) did not solve the problem.
    Specs of my system:
    Quad core Q6600 @3.0GHz (overclocked)
    8gb RAM
    >200gb free disk space
    windows 7, 64-bit
Does anyone have some suggestions to solve this problem? Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Jeffrey

    Harm,
Sorry for not responing for a few days, but I runned the benchmark you'll send me. The main results (dee details attached file):
    53,6,  secs Total Benchmark Time
    6,4,  secs AVI  Encoding Time
    14,2,  secs MPEG Elapsed Time
    33,  secs Rendering Time
Since the potential problem is my hard disk, inaddition, I runned HDtune (hopefully it will help pinpionting the problem):
disk1: avarage transfer rate: 94MB/s, acces time 13.8ms, burst rate 185MB/s
disk2: avarage transfer rate: 85MB/s, acces time 14ms, burst rate 157MB/s
disk3: avarage transfer rate: 73MB/s, acces time 13.9ms, burst rate 183MB/s
Analyzing these results, could the current hard disk configuration cause the problem I have, or is my system to slow anyway to edit AVCHD material?
If the hard disk configuration is the problem, could it be solved by applying your suggestion by removing all partitions? Since, I'm not looking forward of removing all partions(re-installing windows (dual boot win7 and vista), shifting a huge amount of data, etc), but if it would help I will do it.
    Thanks inadvance,

  • ITunes 7 Video Playback Problems

I've been looking through this message board and haven't been able to find a post where this question was already asked, so I hope I'm not the only one experiencing this problem. With iTunes 7 (and the new Quicktime), all the mp4 videos on my computer will play only audio, while the video consists of either a blank window or a jumble of flashing bright colors laced with an occasional snippet of the video. All of these videos worked perfectly prior to the updates. Interestingly, there is one exception to this: all of the episodes of "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" (Season 2) play perfectly, for no apparent reason. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the applications, but that doesn't work, nor does merely trying to play them in Quicktime rather than through iTunes itself. Please let me know if there is ANY way to fix this, as I have invested a lot of time and money into my video collection! Thanks.
      Windows XP

I would like to get some more information on this. Please try these steps:
    1. Quit iTunes.
    2. Go to: Start menu > Control Panels > QuickTime.
    3. Click on the Advanced tab.
    4. Un-check the checkbox next to "Enable Direct3D video acceleration".
    5. Open iTunes.
    6. Play the video.
    Does the issue occur?
I also need to get some information from the affected systems:
    1. Navigate to C:\Program Files\QuickTime.
    2. Double-click on QTInfo.
    3. Click on the yellow question mark icon in the upper left corner of the window and choose Save Log.
    4. Save that file somewhere.
    5. Attach that file to an email, and send it to me. Please also let me know the results of the steps above.

  • Sound and microphone problems.

    Dear members:
After a lot of frustrating attempts to use a microphone with my computers I have finally given up and decided to search for help with this issue.
I have used a earset on three different computers I own (2 Powermacs and 1 Powerbook) but it doesn't pick the sound input from the microphone. I can hear just fine through the earset's speaker but the microphone part doesn't work.
The earset has been used with 2 cell phones I have and I know it's working fine. I have also tried to use 2 Sony microphones I often use with a digital voice recorder during lectures. One is a unidirectional mono microphone and the other is a stereo omnidirectional microphone. Both microphones work just fine with the recorder but on the computers they simply don't show any sound input coming in.
I have gone to the preferences pane, selected sound and chosen line in as the input source. However, unlike my Powerbook's built-in microphone, I can't see the input level bar graph move when I speak into the microphones. In case I do it with the Powerbook's sound input set for the built-in microphone, the input level bar moves to both right and left according to sound level (and the input volume I set). But with the microphones I have tested (3 so far) nothing happens.
The problem can't be related to a hardware problem since I have tested the microphones with 3 different computers and it would be too much of a coincidence to have 3 computers with the same problem. The microphones can't be the problem either since I have tested them and they work fine with other devices.
I have to believe the problem has to do with system configuration and something I am not doing right. I have contacted Apple's technical support but have been extremelly dissapointed by the help I received from a young man who seemed to know less about computers than I do and wasn't very well trained in the art of providing courteous service to consumers.
Any ideas here ? This is frustrating me to the extreme as this should be a fairly simple thing to do that has now become a nightmare.
Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.
    Best regards,
    Joseph Chamberlain

Apple's sound input and output ports are separate on their machines. Not all Macs have a sound input port. If the headset only has one audio jack, you won't be able to use the sound in on it unless you somehow separate the sound input to its own cable.
Please identify your Macs in more detail using the links I've provided here:
    http://www.macmaps.com/macosxnative.html#IDENTIFY
The Specifications link on the toolbar at the top of the Discussions board will get you the sound port configuration of your specific Mac. If there is no sound input port on your Mac, you may need to use a Griffin iMic to hook up the audio input cable. Check your Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Sound -> Input to be sure that the microphone is detected.
Not always will you get an Apple support representative on the phone who doesn't know what they are doing. Most of the time they are quite knowledgeable. If you get one who doesn't ask them to let you speak to someone else who is more of an expert on the issue.

This sounds like it is your PSU giving troubles. What wattage is your PSU, and what are the 3.3v, 5v and 12v ratings on the PSU? (You can find out this info on the sticker that is attached to the PSU)

When I rendered my first scene in adobe after fx cc 2014 I noticed I had no sound, and the video was playing frame by frame not full speed.

    Big D.

You probably used the default Lossless preset in the Output Module. You should probably type rendering in the search help field at the top right corner of AE and study up on the options.

  • HP Envy dv6 sound and video problems

I bought my laptop just over a year ago. In the past two days, it's developed problems with both video (video loads but freezes, usually at .02 into the video), and with audio, which works fine for a few minutes after start-up, but then goes out. The problems occur whether the video or audio is in a browser or a dvd or a downloaded file. Further, the mute button is unresponsive at those times - when I hit it, it doesn't change (turn red for mute). I found one response in the forums but it was for a different Envy model (mine does not have a Beats button). I tried it anyway but it didn't work. Halp!

Hello unerenarde, welcome to the HP Forums.
It appears that you have an issue with the audio and video on your notebook. That this occurs from multiple sources. I will try to assist you with this.
I would first recommend updating all drivers. To do this use the HP Support Assistant. This tool will check what drivers need to be updated and provide them to you.
After that, take a look at these documents:
No Sound from the Speakers or Headphones (Windows 7)
TV and DVD Video Playback is Choppy and Skips
The titles may not be exact to what your issue is, but the steps might be helpful.
If those fail to assist with the issue, please reply back with the Model and Product numbers for your notebook, as well as the currently installed operating system.
Let me know how this goes.
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • Sound and quicktime problems

so ever since i downloaded the newest version of itunes and quicktime my itunes simply wont play... also im getting a application error message for quicktime when the computer starts. I have no idea what to do... any ideas??

ok so following the advice of a computer buddy I did a system restore and brought my itunes back to the old verson. To figure out how to do the restore just use the find or support button in windows and it will give you info and walk you through it! My sound issues were gone. The only problem i encountered was that when trying to open itunes it said my libray could not be opened bec it was a newer version than itunes.
but if you have this problem all you have to do is search your comp for itunes library. this will bring you librays up that is has savedd over time. find the main one with all the playlists in it and the one with the newest date and move them to your desktop, this keeps itunes from trying to open it. itunes will open with no library and all you have to do is use the file on your desktop with the playlists in it and drag each one to the left side of your itues and the play lists are there again!!!
my friend just sugested that if and when i do another update to save my old library to my desktop again before the update so if, again, i have problems with the new version i can revert back to the old library again!! hope this helps

  • ITunes naming and filing problems

    Hi,
I’m currently recording weekly lectures on a Sony MP3 recorder. I then download the lectures into iTunes, and then onto my iPod so I can listen to them as necessary.
So each week I add a few more files to iTunes. First I drag the files from the Sony machine onto my desktop. Then I drag them into my folder of lecture recordings. Then I have one of two choice / one of two problems to solve:
    1. Sometimes I rename the files here, but then when I drag them into iTiunes, the files in iTunes revert back to the original file names (date and time).
    2. If I drag them into iTunes without naming them, I can then rename them in iTunes – BUT, this does not rename the files in my folder of lecture recordings.
It seems to be really problematic to match up the old and new files within iTunes. I have to scroll down through a long list of files, highlight the ones which should be associated, then “get info”, then rename the whole match, and someone this “moulds” them together as if an album. It’s quite boring and laborious. Maybe I’m doing something wrong.
I seem to have a similar problem when importing a CD which is not recognised and therefore has no artist name of track names. A dozen tracks just end up spread throughout my library and I have to work out which “track 1” and which “track 2” I want and then glue them together as an album in “get info”. Am I doing something wrong? Is there an easier way of doing this?
Another problem I’m having. Why do some CDs keep reverting to the “Compilations” folder. For example: I have a two-CD set of U2 Joshua Tree. The first CD (the “album”) is filed under “U2”, but the second CD (the extras and b-sides) keeps moving back to “compilations”. The annoying thing is that they’re never adjacent on my iPod (but they are in iTunes). Various other “best of” CDs always end up in compilations, as if “various artists”, when they’re by a specific artist. My Beatles Anthology 3 CDs WILL NOT let me download the English song titles. The song titles are all in what looks to me like Japanese. These little thing are quite annoying.
If anyone can clarify any of the above, it would be appreciated.
    Thank you very much.

So the Sony recorder is initialising the tag with the date & time of creation. iTunes will use the filename as an initial value for a track name if & only if there is no tag present in the file on import. You could use a 3rd party tool to edit the tags before import to iTunes if you wanted.
    2. If I drag them into iTunes without naming them, I can then rename them in iTunes – BUT, this does not rename the files in my folder of lecture recordings.
iTunes will only rename the files if you have the option *Keep iTunes Media folder organised* selected and you either place these files somewhere inside the iTunes Media folder before import or have *Copy to iTunes Media folder when importing* selected.

Click on the heading for the Date Added column once or twice to put your library into descending date added order. This will sort the most recent imports at the top of the list making it east to access the tracks you need ot edit. For general guidance on getting iTunes to organise your tracks sensibly see my previous post on Grouping Tracks Into Albums.

You can type in the info. before importing or use date added to gather the items you need to edit.

See Missing Artist or Album not with others by same artist and One cover for multi-disc album in the post mentioned above.
My Beatles Anthology 3 CDs WILL NOT let me download the English song titles. The song titles are all in what looks to me like Japanese.
iTunes will try to match your CD with the CDDB database. Generally it gives the first possible match with no option for alternatives. Sometimes you can fool it into fetching the right data by altering the title slightly. I've just searched manually and found an entry for THE Beatles Anthology 3 (Disc. You could try changing the album title to this then selecting the tracks and using *Advanced > Get CD Track Names*. Failing that, edit by hand.
These little things are quite annoying.

  • DVDSP HD framerate and playback problem

My HD DVD project has assets encoded at H.264 1280x720 and 23.976fps. The framerate in the Asset window reads 23.976, but the inspector window claims a frame rate of 59.94 for the asset. Can I force the interpretation to be 23.976?
I am assuming this is why on playback I get steppiness, like the video can't keep up with the audio. I don't have playback issues in simulation mode, just in the final burn of the HD DVD.
