ITunes 7 ...too good to be true... start menu folder problems

If any one out there like me and prefers to keep there start menu / programs organized then you might run into this ... itunes 7 automatically installs itunes into the directory directly under start menu/programs....and if i try to move the folder into a sub-folder such as start-menu/programs/media folders ... itunes will reinstall itself and make another new folder under start-menu/programs .... this is quite upsetting

hahahaha!
It said my ipod update was complete. Then when I go to disconnect it, it says "itunes is updating the ipod. are you sure you want to disconnect it?"
lol
it appears to be ruiening all the tracks on my ipod with its gapless playback.
looks like its time to uninstall iTunes 7, go back to the previous version, restor my ipod to factory settings and remove all the songs, then start over.
I love apple "upgrades"

this seems too good to be true are apple launching a new imac?
or is this the model befrore the latest upgrade? just seems a really good price!

It's one of the older Yonah iMacs and as it's "Out of Stock" it's probably not really available just sat there to score well on the price checker websites that will trawl for the lowest priced iMacs and hence list PCWorld at the top. (Call me cynical! )

Haven't got to memtest yet but I will in a moment. Disk repair found no errors but AHT showed 4SNS/1/40000000: 'TmOP' , which some say is a heat sensor-like problem maybe?
I'm very disappointed with the "troubleshooting" that was done on the phone the other night with tech support.

  • Just installed Visual Studio express 2013. Start menu folder empty.

I just installed Visual Studio express 2013 For desktop.  On to my windows 7, 64 bit laptop.
After it installs it asks you if you would like to launch the program.  So I clicked launch.  And it never launched.
Furthermore when I go Into my start menu.  I find why the Visual Studio 2013 folder.
    And it's empty.
So I went ahead and tried to reinstall Visual Studio express 2013.
After I reinstalled it I had to restart my computer.  I have done that.  And my start menu folder is still empty.
I have no way of finding the executable file for Visual Studio express 2013.
And if I could I'm not confident that it would launch.
I decided maybe I should uninstalled completely and reinstall it.
    I went to control panel>uninstall a program.
I selected Microsoft Visual Studio express 2013.
    And then I selected uninstall.
a window pops up that says.  " Microsoft Visual Studio express 2013 for windows desktop has stopped working.   A problem caused the program to stop working correctly .  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.".
so I can't fully uninstall the program.  And reinstalling the program doesn't help.
why is this happening. What do I do. How do I fix this?

    Hi HAL9090,
    >>I find why the Visual Studio 2013 folder. And it's empty. And my start menu folder is still empty.
Do you mean that you can't find VS2013 in the start menu? Please click "All Programs" in the start menu to see if you can find it.
If you still can't find it, could you please tell us how you install it? From the web installer or by the downloaded setup file? If you have the ISO image, I suggest you verify its checksum. Perhaps you need to re-download one. If you have no one, please
    download it from
Microsoft Visual Studio Express 2013 with Update 4 for Windows Desktop - English
    DVD5 ISO image
    The correct checksum is
    4AE40D10B303C034F6D6230CE21F0295E5CD708C
    You can download the
fciv.exe tool to verify the checksum.
Once it matches the correct one, please make sure that your windows is patched up and disable the anti-virus software. At last, install VS.
What's more, it seems that you can't uninstall VS2013. If you want to uninstall it, you can use the setup file to uninstall it. Please double click it to open it, then you can choose to uninstall it in the pop up dialog.

    Hi Zargar,
    >>Using server 2008 R2 and the clients are Windows 7 Professional; i am getting empty start menu.
This is normal, for we disabled the option
Move the contents of Start Menu to the new location. This option is enabled by default and it will automatically move the existing content to the new location.
At this moment, we can manually copy the files we want from the local locations.

  • Is X48C Platinum Too Good to Be True?

Although I've built several MSI motherboard systems over about five years, I'll admit to never being more hesitant to start a new build than right now.  I've literally been "on hold" since about November 2007, buying just dribs and drabs of components, but always side-stepping and delaying the motherboard purchase.
I want to stay Intel, I want to build right out there on the "bleeding edge" . . . a first in itself for me.  This build will be pressed into heavy duty HD video rendering as it's primary, nearly sole, function.
OK, I'll say it - DDR3 spooks me, both its very high present cost, but more I'm concerned about its long-term viability.  Maybe I shouldn't remember things like RDRAM & RAMBUS, but I do.
If DDR3 becomes the new memory standard - and it very well may - I want to be able to migrate to it easily, i.e., without changing motherboards.  But I want to build NOW, preferably with DDR2.
So, very clearly, the NEW MSI X48C Platinum, with it's dual DDR2/DDR3 capability appears to be just what the geek ordered . . . but . . . where is it?
Literally the Internet (and especially various Sellers like Newegg to name just one) seems to be almost void of ANY information regarding this motherboard.
Even these fine MSI Forums are almost without X48C Platinum mention.
I didn't hijack an existing thread.  Yes, maybe I rambled, but I'm a loyal MSI old guy geek builder in need of any advice and/or comments out there.  Please respond.
    Thanks.

I would go with Xeon based workstation mainboard from video edit system...... something based around the Intel 5000 chipset. FBdimm slightly cheaper than DDR3 and is now a proven product.....

  • Is this a scam? too good to be true?

Saw a ad in kijiji selling a brand new 440s for $1250 cash.
    specs
    i7 intel
    Win7 pro
    no touchscreen
    fullHD IPS
    8 GB RAM
    256 SSD
    3 year warranty
He says its brand new sealed in box. He wont open box until i am 100% sure to buy it. If I buy similar laptop directly from Lenovo canada it goes for $2,052.
    What gives?

There's no guarantee you will get the price on eBay you expect.
Your original iPhone may sell for a decent price since there are still people out there who wish to use iPhone illegally on non authorised networks.
Personally I have lent out my original iPhone, got an O2 pay as you go SIM card for iPhone and given it to a friend to use to see if they can live with iPhone compared to their usual button led mobile (so far they have abandoned their button led mobile in favour of iPhone, so once they are out of contract with their current provider, I think there will be another iPhone dedicatee on the books)

  • Beware too good to be true

I recently switched from Comcast I've had nothing but issues with these scammers. I was told I pay 85 a month for the package special they are running for one year. First they took three weeks to setup before I could use it took three techs to setup and finally I was only using the service for a month. They charged me those three weeks and a month. I paid the first bill of 65.00 but then a week later I get a bill for 213.00. I've only used them for a month....they said the first bill I paid was for the partial month I explained I didn't use it until three weeks after the first tech showed up and the last tech fixed it. So please explain to me how they came up with that number again I didn't agree to any charges other than activation and setup for 49.99 so plus 85.00 for monthly how do they come up with 213.00 again I already sent them 65.00 they told me there's nothing they could do....so to save you a headache unless you are prepared to spend 300 dollars for setup don't use uverse cable and Internet. I knew 60.00 a month for a year would have a catch they don't tell you that when they promise you the world to get your business. Scammers! I wish I just stuck with Comcast.

  • Start Menu folder structures

    Hi
Is there a way of using Zenworks 7 type linked folders in Zenworks

  • Desktop/Start Menu Icons won't stay away...

Ok, here's my dilemma. I am very meticulous about my desktop Icons and my start menu organization... I keep a quick launch Icon for iTunes, but no start menu or desktop icons... however, since I've upgraded to iTunes 7, every time I restart iTunes it reinstalls the icon and the start menu folder, and I cannot find an option to disable said icons... it's REALLY annoying me, as was the (seemingly) corrected stuttering issue... this is really a disappointing new iTunes upgrade... I'm very surprised that apple would rush out such a shoddy product...I haven't tried syncing my iPod yet, I'm afraid to... I just hope that my new 80 gig will work fine once I get it...

    iBod,
OK, that seems to have done the trick. I had to play around with the grid spacing – there seems to be a setting somewhere just right of the middle of the scale that enables icons to be positioned almost at the L/H edge of the desktop.
Thanks for your help. One of those ultimately unimportant but nonetheless annoying little issues.

  • Start Menu items/shotcuts and Start Menu search ability on multiple workstations

2/13/2014 our IT department began to receive complaints of missing programs. After investigation of a few users we were able to determine that the programs existed but all shortcuts and items from the start menu had been completely removed. In addition the
searching feature of the start menu was not functional. This happened to about 90% of our environment and the catalyst seemed to be Windows updates or at least occurred after the auto reboot initiated by Windows Updates.  The only items visible in start
menu were items added after the fact, internet explorer, magnifier, command prompt, and notepad. All other items, folders, and the ability to search installed programs or folders were completely removed. However all programs are present in the program files
folders. THe start menu folder in program data was empty except for the aforementioned items. Additionally properties of start menu had all necessary checks in boxes such as search program files and folders etc. Also show hidden items and folders is enabled
for many users so the items were not hidden but gone. And the biggest kicker of all was after a full domain investigation into the issues we found that the majority of our windows server platforms, primarily 2008, were also affected and system restore is unavailable.
This conflicts with our idea that Windows Updates caused this since our servers get their updates on a manual initiated basis by their admins which we have not performed as of yet for this month. This caused me to begin looking at SCCM SCEP as all systems
have System Center Endpoint Protection and received definition updates. Also accessing different user profiles or even a new profile did not make a difference, issue still present.
Due to the enormous inconvenience we sent out a company wide email asking users to perform system restores to get us in a stable state. A system restore to the day before Windows updates (second Wednesday of every month configured by SCCM SCUP) restored
    the start menu items.
On a multitude of machines IT performed troubleshooting and system restores recording the changes removed and added. We then, on a healthy machine, started to apply the windows updates and SCEP (antivirus) definitions 1 by 1 with out success of replicating
the issue. Next we performed a system wide antivirus full scan and did not find any viruses. This is obviously not a system criticle issue bringing us down but is a huge concern for us in IT as it happened company wide and caused a large flux of tickets and
some down time for non-technical users. We most definitely want to know the cause and after several days of investigation and troubleshooting Im turning to the Microsoft community for help.
I know I categorized this as a Windows 7 issue and its affecting windows server 2008, 2003, and 7, but I did not see a forum for all windows platforms. Since the majority of affected users are Windows 7 I opened it here.
So to summarize in a bulleted format:
Issue: Wide spread issue affecting around 60-70 users and servers, all profiles, were all start menu items save one or two system defaults were removed. Additionally the searching feature for the start menu looks to be broken as programs
exist in program files and are unsearchable from start menu. IT was also affected and I remain affected until I find the cause.
    Investigation and Troubleshooting:
Start menu properties: nothing has changed and search options are enabled.
Missing items are not hidden, hiding and unhiding does nothing and folder options show hidden files is checked.
Program data start menu location is indeed empty as well as user app data start menu location
No group policy's are in place altering start menu items and no group policy changes were made as of recent
No SCCM packages pushed company wide in last month or pushed individually
Windows Updates occurred on windows 7 machines only before the issue occurred and computers restarted and the issue surfaced
System Center Endpoint Protection Antivirus updates and definitions deployed just before the occurrence with windows updates. SCEP def updates happen on all windows boxes to include servers
Paint.exe was completely missing from system32 folder for some users machines to include my own
System restore to that morning before restarts or previous day fixes the issue for windows 7 users
No windows updates were initiated on any servers
Servers were also affected with windows 7 machines
About half the users affected had corrupt Microsoft Office 2013 Pro Plus Click to Run installations and for some the system restore did not fix this and we had to re-install office for around 10 users
SCEP antivirus did not catch any viruses that could cause this, I performed MBAM scans on a handful of machines and didn't find anything either.
    Re-creating start menu shortcuts works
Happened to two of our companies locations NH and MA, all part of the same domain but different LANS of course. Companies are interconnected by MPLS connection.
I combed through SCCM to see if anything deployed and found nothing. Currently I have SCUP updates and SCEP updates disabled. I will post a list of Windows Updates that occurred when the issue occurred as well as the SCEP updates. I have read all the threads
about this types of issues and tried all steps without success. Googling the issue also did not rear results.

    Hi,
I would like to suggest you try these steps to figure out what could be causing this problem.
    1. Run Troubleshooter
Open the Search and Indexing troubleshooter
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Search-and-Indexing-troubleshooter
    2. Create a new library and include fewer folders for test purpose. Now search for a file from that folder. See if it works.
    Create a new library
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Create-a-new-library
    3. Try to rebuild search indexing. Refer the steps from the following article.
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Change-advanced-indexing-options
Also you may use the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) to check the issue. The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.
How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or on Windows 7
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833
In addition, you may refer to the following Microsoft TechNet article for the Windows Search related Group Policies.
    Group Policy for Windows Search

    Hope it helps.

  • Start Menu Program Group/Folder Evaported

OK, so I really tried to find hints in the forums & knowledge base, but I guess my search-fu just isn't up to it; thus apologies if this is boring:
I'm running CS5 Design Premium on Windows 7 Home Premium x64; all are patched & up to date. I just noticed today that the start menu folder for Creative Suite is missing. I've tried exporing for it in the hard drive but it is missing there just like it is on the start menu. The applications are still installed and I can start them directly from their exectuables. It's just that the folder in the start menu has gone missing. I have no clue why or how long it has been, a few days at most.
While I'd love to know how it happend, I'd be satisfied if if there was a "repair install" facility that will recreate it, short of actually reinstalling (and re-patching) the whole thing, which seems silly, or building one by hand, which seems tedious. The control panel "Programs and Features" entry seems only to be interested in uninstalling.
FYI I also have Lightroom x64 and Premiere Elements installed, in the unlikely event that it matters.
Thanks for any help anyone can provide,
    --Bob

Well, yes, of course; this is what I meant when i said "building one by hand". But there's 14 links in there, several of which I would never have remembered. Many applications -- including ones that cost far less than CS -- have a "repair install" option that will go look for and fix any such breakage, and I was wondering if CS could do that, or if the only other option was in fact to fully uninstall the product, reinstall from distribution and re-download and apply all the patches. One solution (manual reconstruction) is highly error-prone, while the other (reinstall) is very time-consuming. I was lucky to have a filesystem backup, so that's a third solution but not one that will be available to everyone.

  • Windows 8 Start Menu Shortcut

    Howdy,
Prior to Windows 8, I was creating a folder with company name in the Start Menu root and then a subfolder in it for each product.
    Start Menu Root :: XCompany :: Product1
    :: Product2
    :: Product3
Using the same architecture in Windows 8 and 8.1, it just recognizes root folders in Start Menu and disregards sub folders.
It means that all my product shortcuts are shown in XCompany folder and ProductX folder is disregarded.
    I checked in Win8 they're here:
    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
Is that behavior expected? Should I force my installer disregard XCompany root folder and just create ProductX folders in the Start Menu folder?
    Or solution is something else?
    Thanks for advise.

    Hi,
In Windows 8, it can allow 2 level navigation on Start screen/ All apps. And yes, we have to create ProductX folders in the Start Menu folder
We must create shortcuts for both your XProduct folder and the sub items under this folder.
    For example:
    For local user, Under folder:
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

  • No Start Menu created during installation

On Vista Ultimate SP1 I installed FireFox 4.0 and choose for custom installation. Under 'Create Icons for FireFox' I only disabled 'On my Desktop'. The other two options where marked.
The icon in the Quick Launch bar is created but there is no Start Menu folder?

Did you previously had Firefox installed?
The Firefox 4 RC version is a regular release and will replace the current Firefox entry in the Start menu even if you do a custom install (haven't tested this, so I might be wrong). You can easily create a new entry in the Start menu yourself if it is missing by dragging the desktop icon to the start menu or by using Windows Explorer to create a folder structure in "C:\Users\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Mozilla Firefox" if that folder is missing.
