when I click on the icon it will not open. No error messege comes up, it just won't open.
some preliminary questions aimed at narrowing in on possible culprits.
(1) do you have Norton Internet Security 2005 installed on the PC? NO
(2) try launching your QuickTime. does it: A
(a) launch perfectly fine?
(b) fail to launch with an error message? (if so, what does it say?)
(c) exhibit other peculiar behavior? (if so, could you describe it for us?)
(3) reboot the PC. bring up your Task Manager, and click on the "Processes" tab. now try to launch itunes again.
does an "itunes.exe" process appear in the Processes tab?
yes it does, itunessetup.exe
if so, does it persist in there or does it disappear after a few seconds?

okay. that means you've got Windows Installer 3.1v2 installed, and you're not getting the "silent" install failures that could be associated with 3.1v1.

... but if no joy with that, let's try getting an itunes 7 installer log to the Apple Engineers for a look.
1. Open a command prompt window. (Start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return.)
2. Drag and drop iTunesSetup.exe onto the window so that the full pathname of the file is at the command line prompt.
3. Type in a space, then the following line:
/l*v C:\log.txt
4. Hit return.
5. The installer will create a log file:
C:\log.txt
Find that file and send it as an attachment to this email address.

A few weeks ago an itunes upgrade did not install properly on my PC so I had to uninstall itunes and everything associated with it. I was able to reinstall itunes and it works fine including syncing with my ipod. However, now whenever I open my email (outlook) a box pops up stating MobileMe Services has stooped working. This happens a couple of times after I click to close the program. This a nusance and really slows down getting to my email. From what I've found MobileMe was something that used to be used by itunes to sync mobile devices but is no longer used by itunes. I can't find a way to remove this MobileMe from my PC. I've tried going into Contol Panel then Programs and Features to uninstall it but there is no button there to uninstall it. Any suggestions on how this can be removed?
Do you have a backup that you can restore from? Your old hard drive seems to be the problem.

I have been using itunes on my windows 64 bit laptop for years but since downloading the latest itunes 10.7 update whenever I opened itunes the error message 'A required itunes component is not installed. Please reinstall itunes (-42404)'
Itunes would still load and play music in my library and I could still sync my ipod but when loading a CD itunes would not recognise the album/tracks and I would need to type them manualing after uploading.
I have just bought the new iphone5 and went to sync the phone with itunes. itunes recognises the iphone when plugged in via the usb port or when wi fi is turned on but itunes will not allow the phone to sync.
I spent over an hour the other morning speaking to apple customer support and have ensured I have administer right and that UAC is turned off.
I was taken through msconfigure and adjusted the startup tab but still no joy.
In the end I was e-mailed instructions on how to uninstall and then reinstall itunes and component parts.
Now that I've uninstalled itunes when I try reinstalling I get the following messages during the download.
The 1st message is;
'The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\Web kit.resources\inspector\Images\Spinner Inactive Selected.gif.'
When I click ok the next message that appears sometime later during the install is;
Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) Failed to start Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.
The options I have are to abort, retry or ignore. If I retry the same message comes back and if I abort or ignore the download continues and I then get the following message:
'Apple Application Support was not found. Apple Application Support is required to run itunes Helper. Please uninstall itunes, then reinstall itunes again. Error 2'
After attempting to reinstall itunes only some components were installed however itunes would not open.
It would appear many people have experienced problems with this latest download!'The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\Web kit.resources\inspector\Images\Spinner Inactive Selected.gif.'
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.

itunes update would not install due to an error, now itunes won't run and I get this error message when I try to launch itunes: iTunes.exe - Unable to Locate Component "This application has failed to start because MSVCR80.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

Hi. My husband and I have always shared the same iTunes account. Since installing iCloud, all our contacts and calenders have merged on our iPhone 4, which we do not want. How do I rectify this? Does my husband need to set up his own apple ID? If so, where do I need to change his email address info, so that his calender and contacts remain his? Thank you
You can continue to use the current AppleID for iTunes, but your husband can create a new AppleID to use to create a new iCloud account that will be his own and not overlap with yours. If you do not have another email address to use for an AppleID, just get a free Gmail account and use that.
You can have as many AppleIDs as you want (or at least, as many as you have email addresses for). You can use a separate AppleID for the store, another for iCloud, and even another for iMessage if you wish.
You will want to keep the current one as the shared one for the store as all your previous purchases are permanently tied to it, and thus you need that AppleID to update or redownload your current purchased content. -
I updated to Itunes 10.6.1.7. over 6 months ago on my Mindows XP desktop. It has worked well.
Recently, on startup, a dialogue box appeared which read: "Itunes was nor properly installed. If

Hello to all my readers.I am still using my Apple G4 1.25 Ghz MDD running Leopard 10.5.8 with iTunes 10.6.3 installed. Can I use an Phone 4s with iOS 5 with this set up? I have read the iPhone iOS 5 user guide and it appears that I can but is anybody actually doing it ? My current phone is a £10 Nokia and I've neither wish nor cash to spend more than a grand upgrading to an intel based machine (at the moment) ! Regards to you all.
If you can find an iPhone running iOS5 and those are the specs for iOS5, there is no reason it should not work.
If you want a more current version of iOS or a more current device, a Windows computer is always an option at significantly less cost.
Granted, there is no requirement to have a computer to use an iPhone. -
The system attempted to automatically update iTunes recently. It failed. I was busy at the time so I didn't really pay any attention to it. Fast forward a few days to now. When I launch iTunes, I am told "This copy of iTunes is corrupted or is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes." I tried to do just that. I downloaded the 10.6.1 installer from Apple and attempted to install it. Again, the installation failed. Below are the Console messages. How do I correct this problem? I have already repaired disk permissions, verified the disk, and rebooted. The most notable things I did recently were:
1) Updated Xcode from the App Store app. When the download and update completed, I accidentally hit the update all button in the App Store app again causing Xcode to start downloading. I immediately paused the download. The paused download disappeared from the App Store app's available updates list but it did appear in Launchpad. I tried to delete paused download from Launchpad and it didn't appear to work but somehow, it is now nowhere to be found in Launchpad.
2) Streamed videos from my MacBook to my new Apple TV. Incidentally, the Apple TV malfunctioned (all icons but Computers and Settings were displayed) and I had to reset it to factory defaults. It works again.

I deleted the old iTunes (with write permissions turned on for my account) and reinstalled successfully. Removing the deleted iTunes from Trash was troublesome even with root but after playing around with permissions and flags, I was able to remove it.

I tried to install iTunes 10.6.1 for Windows (64 bit) and it says "A required iTunes component is not installed. Please repair or reinstall iTunes. (-42404). Windows Defender Beta 2 Stops iTunes 6.03 From Installing Completely

There is a bug with Windows Defender Beta 2 and iTunes.
I thought I would tell apple and Microsoft about it. Check microsoft beta newsgroups.
When you install iTunes 6.03 and have Windows Defender Beta 2 running it will cause iTunes setup to error with the following:

Clicking ok and install continues like normal and iTunes is installed ok. Have not run into any problems because of the errror in iTunes.
Now after installing iTunes Windows Defender Beta 2 flags its install since its trying to install a service.

Custom Build Windows XP Geforce 6800Katrina--Correct me if I'm wrong but there is no way to turn off the new Windows Defender software (it's the replacement for the Microsoft Anti-Spy beta software). Fortunately, I already had iTunes 6.02.23 installed before I installed Windows Defender earlier this week. I had some big problems accessing the music store yesterday, but I've resolved them. (And I really don't think Defender was causing the problems. I think the music store home page was overwhelmed by people participating in the current contest.) If there's a conflict between Defender and iTunes it helps those of us using both to know this. Then we can figure out troubleshooting solutions to resolve the problem. If we come up with workarounds, it helps everyone on this board, doesn't it?
P.S., I understand Spybot has problems with the newest version of iTunes too. The mini-store is the culprit. I don't think these programs prevent you from using iTunes they just don't like some of the features in the mini store--so they warn you about them. -

iTunes has various components bundled with it that it requires for general usage. I advise that we completely remove iTunes and all of these related components, verify that they have been removed, then reinstall. To do so, please follow the steps in this article:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7

Note: it is important to remove the 7 components in order. Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.
If the above does not resolve your issue, I recommend we reset the SC Info folder:

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
and paste into:
C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

F.80 Mass Reversal Using Doc. Header Text
Is it possible to reverse multiple documents by searching off of Doc. Header Text in the F.80 transaction? Its not there in the system I am using so I am wondering if there is an OSS note or configuration step to get this in?
