ITunes 7 will not open but quicktime works

I just tried upgrading and installing the new version of itunes however when i try to open iTunes, it wont open. If I try to run the setup again and 2 options come up to either repair or remove iTunes from my computer. If I select repair, it goes through the set up again but when I try to open iTunes it just doesnt open, no error message or anything.

starting to check for some possibilities which used to hit itunes 6.0.5.20 and earlier versions with "error message free" itunes launch failures.
first let's check to see if itunes launches after after a selective startup using MSCONFIG with just the itunes background processes enabled.
Background processes installed with iTunes 6 for Windows
for the MSCONFIG technique, see:
Using MSCONFIG to troubleshoot conflicts in Windows
if it does launch, post back with a list of the startup items and services that you had to disable. (exact spelling and Capitalisation please.)

selecting iTunes results in popup message; 'iTunes requires Quicktime 7.5.5 or later...', but QuickTime will not open.
    Control right-click did not help.

Wow, it looks like your software is very very old.
The current version of QuickTime is 10.3.  The current version of OS X is 10.9.1.  (Your profile indicates you are running OS X 10.5.8, Leopard.  Leopard was released in 2007.)
The current version of iTunes, 11.1.4, will not run on Leopard.
Anyway, it sounds as if all your software needs extensive upgrading.  You may be using a computer that is too old to run current software.

  • Itunes is not opening but Quicktime is opening.

    Hello,
I have been searching these discussion boards for a solution to my problem.  I went through all the troubleshooting tips and still found no solution.
Itunes won't open either manually or when I plug in my iphone 3GS. Quicktime always opens though.
I have Windows 7 and all my drivers are up to date.  I've shut down both firewalls and antivirus software.  I've discovered it is a system wide problem as creating a new profile and trying to open itunes does not work.  I have deleted itunes configuration files.  I have turned off everying in Startup but itunes and quicktime and turned off all non Microsoft services in msconfig. I've removed all temp files from the computer and internet caching (over a gigabyte of info removed).  None of it has fixed the problem.
Anyone have any suggestions on where to go next? Thanks in advance.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • ITunes will not open because Quicktime!help!

I clicked on the iTunes icon on my computer and a message pops up saying "Quick time is required to run iTunes. Please reinstall iTunes" and all u can do is press ok! how can i open my itunes???

Oops! The same thing happened to me recently. I removed Quicktime from my computer using the Add/Remove Program button in the control panel; I didnt realise that you need Quicktime for iTunes to work. To solve the problem you need to reinstall Quicktime - you can dwnload it from the apple website by itself - or download all of iTunes again - it comes with Quicktime. If you do this youwont loose any of your iTunes library, because you will be updating rather than starting again.
    Good luck

  • ITunes will not open because QuickTime will not initialize.

Please help!! I have tried everything from reinstalling to removing both iTunes and Quicktime and downloading them again. When I try to open iTunes (yes it worked before) it says, "QuickTime failed to initialize (error-2096) Quicktime is required to run iTunes. Please reinstall iTunes." I have done all of the troubleshooting Apple has to offer and nothing has worked. I have even done system restore - Thanks for any help someone can give me!!!

I'll post the same thing I posted in another thread; it might help you. Reinstall itunes again according to my post. Some of the information is irrelevant to your problem, but hey, i'm kinda feeling lazy. You'll get the idea. Here it is.....
"this is just a suggestion. If you reinstall itunes again, make sure you follow the directions in the support section of this site for uninstalling itunes and quicktime. Another thing they don't say in that article that I did when i had to uninstall itunes was to do a search. You know, pressing the start button and then "Search". Make sure when you do, click the search "All files and folders". Then set it to look in "Local Hard Drives (C:)" or "My Computer"; i'm not sure which search will pop up your itunes files. Try them both. And then type in the "all or part of the file name" box, itunes. After the search is done you should have a bunch of different itunes components in the results. Btw do the same for quicktime as a search. Make sure to DELETE every itunes and quicktime file there. If some of your music files happened to come up in the search, use commone sense. Get rid of every component so itunes and quicktime is completely erased from the system. Make sure that you do this after you've restarted your computer once (according to the uninstallation article). Then just empty your recycle bin, reboot your computer, and finally reinstall itunes. Hopefully that will work to at least get rid of that APP error. Good luck and ask me anything you have some questions!!"
    Hope that works!

  • ITunes will not open, requires Quicktime 7.5.5 or later.

I've just reset my iMac and reinstalled Leopard but when I try to open iTunes I get this error message; iTunes requires Quicktime 7.5.5 or later. I've downloaded version 7.7 but still get the same message. I've read on here to download an earlier version of iTunes and then to update that but I can't find an earlier version from anywhere.
Any help would be very much appreciated..

Hi Dave. Many thanks for your response. I uninstalled iTunes and Quicktime and then reinstalled them and now I can open iTunes. I now have another problem. The music that is on my iPhone that was imported from my iTunes prior to resetting my Mac seems to be unavailable for me to play. It doesn't show up on my iPhone when it's not connected. But when I connect it to my Mac all the songs show up under the music tab of my iPhone but they are all light grey and when I click one an exclamation mark appears next to it. I've tried authorizing my account but that doesn't do anything.
If you have any idea what the problem could be I would really gratefull.

  • Itunes will not open on my computer the icon on desktop  has changed to a white foldertype icon. itunes is listed in programmes on my start menu but will not launch either

    please help
itunes will not open on my computer the icon on my desktop has changed to a white folder and it is still listed in start programmes but will not launch i am concerned about losing all my downloads

You music etc should not be affected by problems with the iTunes program, nevertheless it is always a good idea to backup your data.
You haven't said if there was any error message when you tried to start iTunes. If  there was one please give it in full.
Also check to see if QuickTime works, iTunes can not work without it. If QuickTime doesn't work, it has to be fixed before worrying about iTunes.
Then restart your PC and open your Task manger and select the Processes tab.
Try to start iTunes, does iTunes.exe appear on the processes tab? If so does it disappear again or remain although the programs does not open?

  • My itunes will not open at all. it occasionally will open but when i plug my iphone into it the program freezes and crashes. please help as soon as possible

my itunes will not open at all. it occasionally will open but when i plug my iphone into it the program freezes and crashes. please help as soon as possible

i think i might have a solution... i have windows vista and after i installed to latest itunes update everytime i tried to open it it would freeze. I tried everything, including uninstalling itunes and all of its components and reinstalled it numerous times. So i went to the itunes folder in my folders, not on itunes, and i deleted my itunes library and playlists. After that it worked just fine, all of my music was deleted but luckily i had my files saved elsewhere.
I hope this helped! I know its frustrating and APPLE/ITUNES NEED TO FIX THE PROBLEM!!!!

  • TS1717 Started a software update this morning which didn't work.  Now Itunes will not open at all.  I get the following message."The program can't state becasue MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer."

Started a Itunes software update this morning which didn't work.  Now Itunes will not open at all.  I get the following message."The program can't state becasue MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer."

There are a couple of options that I know of to fix the issue.
One is listed in this thread - https://discussions.apple.com/message/24606478#24606478 - and involves uninstalling iTunes and related components and then re-installing iTunes.  You will need to read the instructions in the thread to see the correct uninstall order.
Second option is use System Restore to set your system back to a date prior to the iTunes update.  I did this before finding the thread mentioned above.
Not sure exactly what the problem is but I know, after a search, that MSVCR80.dll was indeed already installed on my computer.

iTunes will not open on my Windows 7 computer.  I've uninstalled it and reinstalled it, but it still won't open.  I'm trying to synch my iPad and iPhone, which I haven't done for awhile, but right now I'm having no luck.  I'm sure there is a switch I need to turn on or off, but have no idea where to find it.  Can someone help?

In the course of your troubleshooting to date, have you worked through the following document?

= New version of Quicktime installed but application reports it needs to have that version installed =
Open Application > Utilities > System Profiler and check the Quicktime version in Frameworks vs. the version in Applications.  One person had re-installed their operating system.  It had kept the newer Player application but had reverted to an earlier version of the underlying support framework files which many applications utilize.  Re-installing Quicktime 7.7 took care of the problem.  Do this manually, not with Software Update.
Installation get stuck at "configuring installation" - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2592979?threadID=2592979  - uninstall Quicktime before installing.

  • Itunes will not open and says R6034 an application has made an attempt to load runtime library incorrectly, I tried to load it twice but nothing

Itunes will not open, it says R6034 an application has made an attempt to load C runtime library incorrectly, then it says service apple mobil device failed to start

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.
