ITunes 7 wont even start, corrupted old versions

I tried upgrading to version 7. the installation went well, but when i try opening it for the first time, i agree to the licence agreement and then i get an "unknown error message [-200]"
whats up with that. i cleaned out my registry, re-installed, and the same problem. I even tried a system restore to get back my old version of iTunes, but it was corrupted or something. The scroll bars were all blacked out, and it wouldnt play anything.
This is so frustrating, especially how apple boasts about how great its products are. I thought upgrades were supposed to improve functionality and not completely impair it.
Has anyone had this problem? I think i may have no choice but to go back to the iTunes software that came with my first gen 15 GB iPod.

I'm right with you. I tried installing 7.0 and it completely messed up everything. I got an error message toward the end of the install and after that, it failed to open. I tried cleaning the registry, reinstalling, with no luck. I even found the 6.0.5 install so I cleared off all the 7.0 version, tried to install the old one and now it won't start either. Thank you so very much Apple. Anyone who figures this out please let me know. I want my iTunes back.

  • Itunes wont even start up

I finally fixed the installer error for itunes 5.1 and now it wont even start up can anybody help me out!!!!

Looks like I might have found the solution on a youtube comment:
    R.O:
"Plug into you laptop first, whichever set up you use that has iTunes, i know it won't read it, don't even open iTunes as of yet. Do the typical reboot "Menu +Center button at the same time" and hold it, DONT LET IT GO like we were told, when the apple pops up.. KEEP HOLDING IT it will make a new ding sound I've never heard before. and since its hooked to you laptop already an error message pops up and says apple will need to download something to repair your iPod. I when u see that that when i let reboot buttons go. hit ok on the laptop something downloads for like 20 seconds then the iTunes icon hops around when you open it it has a screen with an iPod classic on it and says "Software version blah blah, iTunes will check for an update on such n such date" AND FINALLY there's a "Restore" button. click that and you will be back to square one with your iPod. Renaming , adding all the music on it, but it will work again, finally. "
I had to do it twice, because my mac froze the first time, but its recognized it now and is downloading the software as we speak...
Now I've clicked the restore button and it's restoring... I'll post again if its a success, otherwise assume failure.

Seems that you can no longer hide them on your phone.  Try doing so in iTunes: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4919.

  • How do I clean up iTunes Mobile Applications folder that has old versions of apps?

I am using the latest iTunes 11.0.3 on my recently new iMac. Previously I had iTunes on my MacPro. The media folder was located on one of the extra (non-boot) volumes on the MacPro (MP). When I got my iMac I changed (in the Advanced section of Preferences) the location of the media folder to point to the same folder on the MP volume as I had been using. Everything seems to work fine. I can plug in my iPhone 4s and sync which goes thru a backup step.
I was then poking around in the iTunes media folder on the MP and found that the Mobile Applications (MA) folder was full of older versions of the apps on my iPhone. They dated back to 2009, 2010 and most were 2011. A few were 2012 or 2013. I would like to get rid of the old versions as they take up space. Being that old I doubt they are useful for anything anyway. But my question is how?
I have read and searched for other threads on this topic and have not found a solution. It appears that iTunes is supposed to toss old versions into the trash. I suspect it is doing that now but for some reason has lost track of these older version. The problem here is I don't know what happened.
My inclination is to take all these app .ipa files and dump them... then do an iPhone sync and have it repopulate this MA folder. But I wasn't sure iTunes would do that. So I selected one app that is currently installed on my iPhone, found several older .ipa files in the MA folder that correspond to that app and deleted all of them. I then sync'd my iPhone and watched it go thru the Backup step. When it was done I checked my MA folder but it still had NO .ipa file for that app. Why is that? To make sure the backup step didn't place it someone unexpected, I did a system wide search for that app name (the core part of the name, not including any version numbers, etc) but it found only one match. It was old (2011) located on an all-together different MA folder so did not come from this iPhone sync.
I wish someone would clearly document what goes on during an iPhone sync when the backup location is iTunes (not iCloud). Does iTunes store the current version of each app in the MA folder? I didn't see that happen in my example above.
What does it mean to remove all .ipa files from your MA folder? It would seem that it doesn't matter EXCEPT for apps no longer available in the App Store. Otherwise I could re-install them, right?
What can I delete safely without ill consequences?
How can i indentify what to remove if I should keep the latest version around?
    Help would be appreciated.
    To be clear:
    * I use iTunes to store my Backups, not iCloud.
    * I have used Consolidate after making sure that Keep iTunes Media Folder Organizaed is checked and Copy File to iTunes Media folder is checked. It did not help here.
    * Given the dates of the .ipa files in my MA folder, this problem pre-dated my recent addition of my iMac.
    * I believe I'm using a new local (to my iMac) iTunes library file but my media folder is on the MP as described above. When I access iTunes app on my MP it too accesses the same media folder. It is used primarily for adding music and movies to, not iPhone apps as I now sync on the iMac.

ITunes has been a disaster for me.  It is filled with all sorts of things and there is no way to reorganize any of it.  I'm forced to use iTunes because I have an iPhone but the experience has convinced me that it is best to avoid Apple products and I would recommend that course for others.
The operative word here is "avoid."  For products like the iPhone and iPad for which Apple has a superior product there is no choice.  The problem is Apple control.  That means that everything is compatible with everything else which is good.  It also means that everything is limited to products that serve Apple's bottom line, which is questionable.
Hopefully, now that Apple's creative genius has sadly left us, other companies will step forward to create products that will allow us to avoid the complications of Apple.  I have found iTunes to be the principal complication.  iTunes regularly updates itself, practically every Sunday, and then I have to restart my computer which interrupts all the tasks that I have underway.
Despite all these updates I don't use iTunes except for the iPhone and even that is problematic.  The entire experience makes me glad that I don't have an Apple since it must be very difficult for Apple users to work with Apple constantly demanding updates and restarts and proprietary software and the like.
If you're not an Apple customer, but you've been listening their hype with their execs pacing a stage clad in jeans, then read this and heed.  My experience with iTunes is a warning for all.  Watch out.  Apple is not your friend.  It's a corporation bent on control, monopoly power and coerced profiteering.  We may all soon need nets to save us when Apple drives us out the window.

  • When I try to download iTunes I this error message "an old version of Bonjour cannot be deleted" and when I try it won't let me saying that the bonjour.msi is missing.

I am trying to download iTunes, it gets so far and then I get an error message that says that an old Bonjour cannot be removed, it goes on a bit further and says and old Apple Software Update cannot be removed; and then it says that the installation was interrupted and to try again.
I have gone to the control panel and tried to remove all traces of Bonjour, Apple, Quicktime but the two will not be removed it says that their .msi file and missing and to try to find them.  I have even reinstalled the programs from the ProgramData files in an attempt to repair or replace the missing files but I still get the same answer.
Can anyone help me? I need iTunes up and running to sync with my phones.
    Thank you for your help,
    Barbara

    Hi Barbara,
I had a similar problem recently and using the "more like this" feature I discovered an answer. To a problem posed by Holo7,  who like myself was a newbie on this platform,  b noir proposed a solution to Holo7's problem that also worked with my problem. It involves downloading a version of MS Windows Instal Cleanup and using it to completely remove all traces of the old version.
If you look at my problem (follow OldGit66) and the link to Holo7's problem then you will find b noir's answer which I think may help you. I am new around here so you might want to wait for one of the higher status correspondents.

  • HT1926 new version of itune can not install due to old version of itune can not be removed

can not install itune due to old  version of itune can not be removed

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • ITunes doesn't even start

i installed a fresh copy of itunes 7 and it crashes before it even starts.
i tried to uninstall quicktime and reinstall it and it still doesnt work.
    anyone have any ideas?

Is there an error number in parenthesis with that message? Or is there a details button available on that error message?
If so you may want to try this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304318
If you are still not getting a message, is Safe Mode currently turned on in Quicktime?
Also could you get a crash log for us with these steps:
Typically, you'll need to configure Dr. Watson on your PC in order to generate crash logs. Windows start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return. At the prompt in the command line window that comes up, type in
    drwtsn32 -i
    And hit return.
This will create crash logs in Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\. There'll usually be a file in here called "drwtsn32.log"
prior to collecting the itunes crash log, delete any existing crash logs in there. (we want to make sure we send the correct crash log.)
Log out of the account that itunes is working fine in and log into the account that itunes crashes in. generate the crash, collect the crash log, and send it to this email address
    in the email:
    (1) state the precise version number of itunes that you're using. (go into your "Help > About iTunes" to doublecheck.)
    (2) include the URL to this thread so that the person who gets the email has some context, but also give as much information about the context of the crashing as you can.

  • Firefox would not connect after upgrade. Did system restore (XP) and not firefox wont even start

Firefox would not connect after upgrade from verion 6 to version 7. Did system restore (XP) and now firefox wont even start

Sometimes Firefox will hang during startup or shutdown, and still be running invisibly in the background. Usually in that case, you need to "kill" it either by restarting Windows or using the Windows Task Manager. It sounds as though you are familiar with opening the Processes tab, finding firefox.exe, and using End Process.
If you use an advanced firewall or other security software that tracks which programs are permitted to use the internet, please see these articles:
    * [[Fix problems connecting to websites after updating Firefox]]
    * [[Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet]]
    A couple of other suggestions:
    (1) Can you start Firefox in its Safe Mode? Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox. You should get a two-button dialog. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset). Any difference?
    (2) In case your regular software missed something that is interfering with Firefox, try the scanning and clean-up tools listed in this article: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]]

  • Totem problems: wont even start

im having a problem even starting totem up. i click on totem directly, or a file that would normally open up in totem, and nothing happens. when opened in the console, i get this message and then it ends:
totem: error while loading shared libraries: libtotem-plparser.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
i am running totem-1.2.1-2 by the way. any ideas?

If you got gnome from testing, you would have got a lot of other testing apps as well, including dbus 0.61, which provides libdbus-glib-1.so.2. totem 1.2.1 is built against an earlier dbus, which provides libdbus-glib-1.so.1. If you want to  maintain a testing installation, you need totem 1.4.0 - and you might as well get rhythmbox 0.9.3.1 while you're at it. If you're downgrading to current/extra, you need to remove the testing repo from pacman.conf and do
    pacman -Syu
You'll get a bunch of "appears to be newer than" messages, one for each package installed from testing. Cancel the upgrade and note the names of the affected packages. Then do
    pacman -S --noconfirm <list_of_packages>
and testing will be gone from your system.
