ITunes 702 memory usage.

I find this a bit odd.
If you turn on the option to minimize to the tray and minimize it, the memory usage stays around 50mb, as if it was up on the screen. If you turn the option off, and minimize, then it drops to about 12mb of ram. Shouldn't they be the same?
I have to say I am really disappointed with this version of iTunes. It's terribly slow. It's sad that just the UI needs about 40mb of ram.
Does anyone have any tips on how to speed it up, or is it like this for everyone?

iTunes 7.0.2 is a total POS. Many of us have been waiting for a fix(s) to the myriad issues - CPU usage, RAM usage, song stuttering, video playback issues - for almost 2 months now.

  • Itunes 11.1.5.5 memory usage windows 7

I have a very large iTunes library.  Lots of music, movies, tv shows, etc.  It links to the AppleTV in the media room.
Lately, around two updates ago, memory usage of iTunes went all wonky.  When first started it uses around 100k. Within a few hours it's over 1.5gb and stops working.  It happens faster if we're using AppleTV.
It's becoming really, really frustrating, to the point where my wife has just quit using it because when iTunes locks up AppleTV stops working.
I've seen this issue crop up elsewhere on the forums, but have yet to see a real solution.
Turning off album view or poster view makes no different.  This happenes no matter what screen iTunes is displaying.
    MH

Thanks for your help. Started itunes in safe mode and it still closed down after approx an hour. There are no add-ons or plug-ins installed. I had previously checked the safe mode and also uninstalled all apple software in the order that one of the help pages indicated. Then redownloaded and installed itunes - made no difference.
After opening itunes it works fine with no problems - what baffles me is that it then stops working even if the software is not active at the time.

  • Itunes + memory usage

    Hi,
I'd like to ask why iTunes uses approximately 40 MB of RAM and has two helper programs, iTunesHelper and iPodService each using 4 MB of RAM running?
What do iTunesHelper and iPodService do?
How can I disable features of iTunes that take up extra RAM (e.g. album viewer), and how can I disable iTunesHelper and iPodService?
Also when is the RAM usage going to be decreased, alternative players such as Windows Media Player 10 use 7-9MB RAM and start up much faster(0.5s) than itunes(4s).
Where is it possible to download older versions of itunes (e.g. 4.6?)

I have used iTunes 7.02.16 for a few weeks, and I just now started noticing a focus problem with the mouse pointer that seems to be related to memory usage. I'm running WinXP(sp2) on a new PC. iTunes seems to idle at 50M, however, I am seeing it use 70-100+M at other times.
The main trouble is that when I doubleclick on a song/video, iTunes loses focus. I have used iTunes since 2003, and I never have had trouble with the pointer focus until this week. Whether I doubleclick slow, normal, or fast, I still cannot get iTunes to play a song/video under the pointer. iTunes either plays a completely different song/video, or it opens the title box for me to edit/rename the song/video. When I view the list of processes running, I see that iTunes is using a larger amount of memory (70-80M) while idling. It's only iTunes; no other applications are losing pointer focus.

  • My iphone has no pictures on it and my memory usage from photo library is 6.2 Gigs.  How can I reset and get back this lost memory?

After resetting my phone, I re-installed apps and connected to my computer.  I made sure I didn't sync any pictures.  My iphone has no pictures on it, yet the memory usage on itunes AND the phone tells me that the iphoto database is taking 6.2 Gigs.  Is there a way to zero that and regain that memory?

I already tried to factory default the phone and restored it.  Same problem.... I have no photo's on my phone and still have 6.2 Gigs memory being used....  Pls help.

  • Please help!! I got my iPhone 4s screen fixed, now in my Photos it shows nothing, although in my memory usage it shows 10.5gb of photos, thats 2000  photos not showing up. What happened?! Where did all my photos go?!

I got my iPhone 4s screen fixed, now in my Photos it shows nothing, although in my memory usage it shows 10.5gb of photos, thats 2000  photos not showing up. What happened?! Where did all my photos go?!

WOOHOO!!! i finaly fixed the problem. Here is what to do:
Chances are if you did the same thing as me you either have
    A) No album names at all for ALL your songs in your library
    or
    B) Have the same name for every album for ALL your songs in your library.
Here is how to fix it (yah it will take a little work but its worth getting your iPod functioning properly).
Unless you dont want to have to go and actualy set al lthe album names for every song here is what you can do:
Go through to iTunes and arange your songs by Artist name. Click the top song for your first artist, hold Shift and click the last song for that same artist (to multi select all the songs for the artist) go into get info and check the Album box. Copy the name of the artist to the Album box and hit ok.
Now when u update your ipod and go into ur Artists section the actual Artist name should show up instead of the song names.
For some reason having the same album name for all your songs messes up the organization of the iPod.
Hope this helps anyone else that is having the same problem

  • "Installer" high memory usage

Hey Guys, I been having problems with my mac. I'm running 10.8.5 on my 2008 Power mac tower and recently I have been having problems with my mac
going real slow. I opened Activity Monitor and Noticed something called "Installer" and it was using 90% of my memory and the only thing I can do is quit the process. Does anyone know why this is happening?

I ran EtreCheck and i'll post my results. I will add more ram after I fix the problem, and adding an SSD is a good option. I thought about it but
I was holding off because I was thinking of buying a new computer. I will try to keep my sysstem drive clean in the future. After Linc Davis posted about the Trojan i'm planning of doing that. I have a cloned mac drive, I updated the other day using SuperDuper.

  • Repairing permssions & memory usage

    Just wondering...
For some reason (curiosity, probably; I'm no power user), a while back I got MenuMeters. I've noticed something for some time that is probably nothing to be concerned about but has made me curious again.
After my iMac has running for a while, my used memory, which starts out less than 200MB, spikes up to more than 500MB. This after typically running only a browser (firefox) and mail (tbird), perhaps iTunes, which, other than an occasional use of Word, is about the only thing I use on a regular basis.
Now, getting to my question. When I repair permissions via Disk Utility, the used memory steadily decreases and my free memory increases--almost back to how they were when I first booted (just now, it went back to 173MB free, 596MB used, for example).
Again, I'm not saying this is a problem, I'm just curious why it does this.
    Thanks...

    John
This may help you understand how OS X handles memory:
Mac OS X: Reading system memory usage in Activity Monitor.
As for it decreasing when you run Repair Permissions, that will be due to the pattern of disk accesses affecting the algorithms used for keeping stuff around.

  • ITunes devours memory?

I've been having a lot of problems with iTunes since the initial download, lol. Right here's a pretty good idea of my previous problems if it can help understand my new problem in any way:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1634474&tstart=0
Anyways, on my old computer (which is much worse than my new one), iTunes ran pretty smooth. I'm pretty sure it never passed 50k usage. On this computer, which is very good, it lingers around 300k+ usage, and the CPU usage bonces all over the place, with occasional freezes.
The CPU usage & freezes happen when i switch from the anywhere to the library (like if im in the music store, and click to go to the library). It pretty much freezes everytime i do. :/
My computer's pretty good in my opinion, so this isn't horribly important, but sometimes i run high-memory usage programs (like f@h or video conversions), and i'd like to listen to music while they're running.
    Thanks guys

    Bump.
Sorry for being such a hassle :/

  • Memory usage seems to be replicating with each sync.  My iPhone 5s is now full, although I typically only use half.

When I went to upgrade to iOS8, I was surprised to find that my memory was full.  Usually it's only half full.  On one of these forums, I found a solution that involved a Terminal command to delete a specific library which returned my memory to the normal usage and I was able to upgrade.  Thursday I lost my phone, replaced and when I restored from backup the memory was again full.  I have not been able to find the command that rescued me last time.  I have found advice to restore and have restored various ways.  Each time I restore, the memory usage seems to increase by about 200mg so it seems that something is replicating.  It is not only "Other" that increases but also "Audio."  Deleting all songs didn't help.
I sync both from iTunes and iCloud so this might be the source of the problem.
    Any thoughts?

Thanks for your reply. Any suggestions for ways to fix this? If I've already updated using my phone, am I just screwed?

  • How do I clear off memory usage from "calendar" it kept on building up

The calendar usage in my ipad kept on building up, although I don't store anything on it, how do I clear the memory usage?

When you connect your phone to the Mac, iPhoto should fire up and offer to import your photos. So do so, selectively if needed. Then make sure they are backed up to external media in case your Mac dies. Then delete them from the camera roll in the iPhone.
Read how Sync works. The User Guide is available at http://support.apple.com/manuals/ or downloadable from iTunes as an iBook.

  • Memory usage jumps from 3 to 5 GB in less than 24 hrs!

I have an iPhone 3GS with 8GB and iOS 5.1.1
Practical available memory is usually 6+GB
Yesterday, when I last backed up, my memory was about half full, a combination of music (0.9GB), photos (0.16GB) and apps (1.4GB).
Just now, not even 24 hrs later, I see my memory usage has jumped up to nearly 5GB, leaving only 1.57GB free. When I look in iTunes, the yellow "other" bar now accounts for 2.2GB but I know I did not add anything there.
The only new thing is that system settings notifies me it wants to install iOS6. I do not want to upgrade. Could it be that the phone downloaded the upgrade, even though I did not tell it to?
If it is not the new OS waiting to be installed, what could it possibly be? And how do I get rid of all that bloat?
    Please advise, thanks in advance!

As much as it drives me nuts loosing memory to Other I've decided the best way for it not to be annoying is to never sync or update any software again, I'm very good at being an ostrich when I want to.
I backup my contacts with an iPhone app, all Gmail emails are store permanently on the Gmail server, any music I purchase is automatically backed up in iTunes and if my phone ever does crash and needs a restore I'll do it then, hopefully these things will be fixed at that stage.
Apart from the annoying Other Memory issue, and the battery problem with iOS5, the iPhone has been my most reliable and enjoyable phone to date and I've decided to just enjoy it as it is. I'll replace the phone in about a year when my plan finishes and, by then, most of these bugs should have been sorted out. If not, Samsung looks pretty good

  • App Download and "Other" Memory Usage

For a month or so I've noticed that my iPhone 5s "Other" memory was on the order of 6gb... Deleted texts and emails attempting to reduce that size, to no avail...
Today I noticed that an App (Numbers) that had begun to download from the App Store (about a month ago), had not finished (WiFi was required for the large download, but had been turned off and on several times, but not long enough for the download to complete).  It wasn't obvious to be that Numbers hadn't finished downloading...
I deleted Numbers from the iPhone, and installed it from iTunes on my iMac.
Upon the deletion of Numbers, my "Other" memory usage went from 6gb down to 2.25 gb, which was reasonable with some large maps and Good Reader docs I have on the phone...
The Numbers app is about 224Mb in size... So, it appears that the iPhone sets aside a very large part of memory for an app as it downloads, and then clears that memory once the app is installed...(though the amount cleared was on the order of 17x the size of the Numbers app...)
I notice a similar usage of Time Machine storage space... Small Time Machine saves require very large amounts of HDD space to be reserved for the backup... Wonder if the same logic is applied to the iPhone... Or perhaps every time WiFi was turned on and Numbers would reattempt to download, the amount of Other memory it required from the iPhone would increase...?
    Anyone else noticed this behavior?
    Bob

    Update...
For "grins" I just un-checked "Sync Music", and synced my iPhone... Other Data went to zero.  Re-checked "Sync Music" and synced, and only had 250Mb of Other on the iPhone.  After a full sync with 7gb music, the Other memory number is back up to 2.23gb...
    Interesting...
    Bob

  • Phantom memory usage

    Hi there!
So, after my iPhone started to have it's own "screen life", opening apps, calling people, etc., and also after I wasn't able to write messages because I couldn't press some letters, I backed up all my media and settings and then restored my iPhone 4.
Amazingly, this problem stopped on its own, but now another one appeared. I have phantom memory usage. My iTunes says I have an occupation of 8,64 Gb of Others, which I don't, and now I'm not able to sync my music and properly use my iPhone.
Anyone knows how to fix this problem?
I would pretty much appreciate any help!
    Thank you!

    You're welcome.
If you are backing up to iTunes, can you see if there is more than one backup listed in iTunes/Edit/Preferences/Devices? That way you won't lose too much data and settings.
Create and delete iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch backups in iTunes
    Good Luck

  • IPad with retina displaying wrong memory usage amount

I am using a 4th gen iPad, (iPad with retina and lighting port) and I have the 32gb with cellular version. Right now, my cellular is not active, but I'm with Telus, not sure if that matters. I'm running iOS 7.0.4. A few weeks ago, I realized I was running low on space, so I deleted a bunch of apps on my iPad, deleted tons of photos, etc. It said I had about 3gb of space available before I did that, but after, it only said I had about 6gb left. I have added up the memory usage of each app, and it only comes to about 13gb used, yet the usage says I have used up 21gb, and I only have about 6.5gb free. Even though I should have like 20gb free. I have turned my iPad on an off a few times with no change, I have restarted my iPad by holding down the home and power buttons, and still nothing. This is concerning me as to where this extra 8-9gb is being taken up. I should have a max capacity of 28gb, but my system says I am using up 21gb with 6gb free. Where as my math by adding up each apps usage only adds up to about 13gb or less. I have iTunes Match turned on, by my music app shows only 266mb used.
Anybody else having this problem? Does anyone have a solution?

Just a note: you may find the memory clock weird, but I have overclocked it to its nominal capacity (the memory chips are 4 ns).
