Itunes 8.0.1 won't install to the correct destination folder

After installing Itunes to the hard drive (I've tried this on both my laptop's hard drive as well as an external hard drive), the destination folder points to the CD Rom drive and won't let you change it.
Help?! I've tried installing three different times, both from the upgrade as well as from the direct website.

I've done that, and it still won't save to teh correct file. It disregards where I want the file saved, and saves it to the E drive, which is my cd rom drive. Then, of course, it won't save to the CD rom drive, becuase there's no memory there.

  • ITunes 10.5.0.142 - Which one is the correct music folder?

    Hi Apple,
You are driving me nuts with iTunes. Everytime I update my iTunes my music looses the link to the actual music files. Now again for the 10th time with iTunes 10.5.
My internal harddisk is way too small for all my music, movies, podcasts etc. so I have to have everything on an external harddisk. In iTunes I point my library to this harddisk.
Everytime I update iTunes you apparently are coming up with a new structure so I keep loosing the reference and you also seems to force iTunes to only look on the C drive. Please STOP! It's a really big hassle and I waste so many hours on reorganising my music librrary. I already spent hours on playlists, ratings, musci covers etc. so don't make it worse than it is and please let me not loose all that work on my precious music.
So please once and for all explain to me how to not to loose my reference to my external harddisk and also explain to me in which folder you would now like my music to be in?
    \My Music\iTunes\ or
    \My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\ or
    \My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\Music or
    somewhere else??
Please also explain to me the correct content of the other folders? Where should my music covers be, iTunes Music Library.xml, iTunes Library.itl, iTunes Library Extras.itdb etc etc.
Thanks a lot for helping a man going into panic and frustration!
Have a great weekend and keep working on that iPhone 5.
    Cheers, Peter Høgfeldt

I guess I should also note that sometimes it just crashes... just because.
    So, get to fixin'.
    No, seriously, fix it.

Yes... the iPhone 5 on iOS 6 requires iTunes 10.7 which in turn requires OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) or later...

  • ITunes won't install all the way

I've tryied installing iTunes 7 like 8 different ways and it won't install all the way each time it stops at "Resigtering modules" and I have reboot my computer because it won't let me exit out of the setup. Also I can't ope iTunes through a shortcut, I have to opena music file to get into it.

I've tryied installing iTunes 7 like 8 different ways and it won't install all the way each time it stops at "Resigtering modules"
by any chance, do you have SpyCatcher antispyware software installed on that PC? in quite a number of these "registering modules" hangs, modules installed by SpyCatcher have been interfering with the registration of the itunes modules.
if you do have SpyCatcher, try uninstalling SpyCatcher altogether prior to an itunes install. if the itunes install then goes through properly, you can reinstall SpyCatcher afterwards.

  • ITunes won't re-install in the correct drive

We recently "cleansed" our computer, and in the process ended up deleting most of the music library. We then tried to re-install iTunes into a new hardrive with a lot more space, which appeared to be successful. However, when importing songs back into the re-installed iTunes, a message came up that said that the original drive was too full. We have re-checked My Computer, and iTunes is listed to be under the new drive, but when importing, continually says it is connected to the old one. Any help? Answers are greatly appreciated- the new drive was bought in part for the large music library, so getting it to be installed in the correct place would be great.
    Thanks!

Manual makes it a usb drive and to eject a usb drive you have to close any program that's using it, in this case iTunes.
When that's done use Safely Remove hardware.
If it's still being used by something then shut down the computer, when it's off disconnect the iPod and leave it disconnected until the steps are finished.
You can always re-install iTunes if necessary but you shouldn't have had the iPod connected until you were done.
In fact I'd just bite the bullet, cancel out of what you're doing, and do a full uninstall/reinstall of iTunes and then follow instructions for moving the music library folder to the other drive as if you were doing it for the first time : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1364?viewlocale=en_US
With that done download a free song and if that works just transfer your music back to iTunes from the iPod, since it's in manual you can treat the whole thing as a usb drive without having to worry about losing music.
You may need to re-do your play lists but that should be the worst.

My macbook won't let me download the new version of itunes and my ipod won't sync without the new version of itunes. Please help!!!

Are you running Snow Leopard or later?
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and
               terms apply.

  • I have just installed a new hard drive in my imac intel 20" (2006) and now the hard drive does not show up in the 'select destinations' folder of the install program.

I have just installed a new hard drive in my imac intel 20" (2006) and upgraded the memory and now the hard drive does not show up in the 'select destinations' folder of the install program. I can see the hard drive in the disk utilities window however it wont let me do anything.
It is a seagate 1TB SATA II drive however it is displaying it as a 7.3 TB.
If anyone has any suggestions I would be happy to hear them.
I have tried to erase and partition and get the same error message each time, 'Input/Output error'.
I have tried starting the thing with the install disk which is Mac OS X (Tiger?) which came with the computer. No good.
    Anyone?

Thats correct. I can see it in the list however when I attempt to erase it or partition it it's like it's not being found or recognised and it throws up the input/output error message. I am pretty sure that the sensor it attached correctly and it is a SATA drive. I can see all the infor regarding the drive when disk utility is open and it all looks good but I cant access it or do anything with it. It's taunting me!
The install disk is in the drive and the install program runs right up to the point where you have to select the location for the install and there is just nothing in the box where you have to select the hard drive icon.
I have my suspiscions about the drive but any help would be appreciated.

  • After installing Firefox 4 Beta I am no longer able to open my Firefox 3. Even when I double click the firefox.exe in the correct progam folder it continues to open Firefox 4 Beta instead of 3.

Opening from the Programs list doesn't work, from the windows search bar doesn't work, and directly opening the Firefox.exe in the correct program folder doesn't work either.
I only got it to open once: upon first installing Firefox 4 Beta I asked it to pin it to the Windows 7 taskbar (it did not). My Firefox 3 program was still pinned to the taskbar however. So through that button I was able to open Firefox 3. But since then I have unpinned Firefox 3 and have pinned the Firefox 4 Beta to the taskbar instead. Now I can't get it to point back to Firefox 3.

what a pain! However, the solution is to simply install the Add-On "Autofill Forms". I'm not certain why Mozilla didn't automatically install the add-on as most of us rely on this feature. It's definitely not a good enough reason to uninstall and reinstall an earlier version and this version has some neat features

  • ITunes 8.1.1 won't install

Okay I just downloaded iTunes 8.1.1 on my Windows PC and it won't install the update.
Here's what happens I go through the steps of installing the update -- the welcome screen provides info on what iTunes helps you do (work with iPod, iPhone, Apple TV etc and burning and importing audio CDs, plus buying songs from iTunes and video) then asks you to press next, next screen asks if you accept license agreement, select yes and click next. Next screen asks what language you want iTunes installed in (English US) and what location for me its C/Program Files/iTunes
Then press next and on the next screen it will install -- next screen shows up and then jumps directly to the iTunes has installed screen without doing so.
    "Says iTunes Installer Completed"
"The installer encounted errors before iTunes could be configured.
Your system has not been modified. To retry these operations at a later time please return to the installer again. Click Finish to exit installer."
I have tried using both Apple Software Update which tells me iTunes + QuickTime could not be verified when the installation error occurs and the manual installation by downloading the file and launching it. Any ideas on
    what's causing this?

Lots of times this is due to QuickTime not installing properly. iTunes depends on QT to play audio & video.
Try installing QT standalone, first. Make sure you pick the option withOUT itunes.http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
Choose SAVE, not run. Double-click the saved exe file to start the install.
If QT installs OK, and you can get it to open and run, then try the itunes install again.
Use this link and again, choose SAVE, not run.
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If you get errors during the QT install, post back.

I've downloaded updates for iTunes & Mac OS X 10.7. But they won't install.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
The latest iTunes version is 11.0.1 version. 11.0.2 does not exist. Have you tried opening Apple menu > Software Update and install iTunes 11.0.1? If it doesn't show up, you have already iTunes 11.0.1

Okay ... it sounds like they've taken you all the way through the following document:
[Trouble installing iTunes or QuickTime for Windows|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1926]
... so we'll try something different.
"There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."
In recent times, I've seen a couple of cases of that message caused on Vista boxes, when the user account that the person was doing the install from inside lacked correct permissions on their C:\Program Files\ folder. They got similar symptoms to you ... some things installed, some things didn't. (It seems to differ from PC to PC precisely what ends up happening.)
So, go "Start > Computer". In "Computer", open your C drive (or whichever drive your Program files are stored on). Right-click "Program Files", and select "Properties". Click the "Security" tab.
Select the name of your User account in the list. Does that account have full control over the folder? If not, grant yourself full control.
After the Tab has done its thing, okay out, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • ITunes 10.3.9 won't install to windows 7.

I keep trying to install iTunes and everytime it freezes at "Registering iTunes automation server". I don't have the spycatcher so i don't know what the problem is. I need help please. And it all started when i went to update itunes. And it did the same thing then. So now i don't have itunes at all because i can't figure it out.

Are you able to get past the problem if you uninstall iTunes and related software components prior to installing, kimberly? For instructions, see the following document:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
