ITunes 8.0.2 freezes in iTunes Store

I've been having problems with iTunes 8.0.2 while looking at movies in the iTunes Store. When I try to click on something or even just scroll down, my Mac freezes up completely and I have to power off. Anyone else having this problem or have any suggestions?

I'm going to call this solved by creating a new library. A couple of things to note:
1) After creating a new library I was able to import the content of my old library by doing File, Add to Library...; however, my Playlists are not carried forward and I had to recreate them. Kind of a bummer but I didn't have much set up so it wasn't too difficult by using my iPod as a reference.
2) The first time you sync your iPod with the new library it needs to wipe out the iPod because it can only be synced with one library. Not a big deal if you've recreated your playlists beforehand though. I'd suggest syncing the iPod with the old library before creating the new one so that you can go back to the old one for reference later if needed.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions and ideas. Based on all of the posts in various discussions this seems to be a common problem. I hope this proves to be my final solution.

  • ITunes Opens to ITunes Store Then Freezes

After always working fine, ITunes now immediately and automatically opens to the Store then freezes, soon followed by "Application Not Responding". I can't get to Library or any other folder and have to force quit. QuickTime works fine and I tried reinstalling to no avail. Any suggestions?

A lot of people are reporting problems with iTunes and/or their iMacs crashing when accessing the iTunes store. It's likely the result of a bug in iTunes that Apple will have to fix with a software update. I submitted a feedback report to Apple on this, you might want to do the same.

  • The iTunes Store app freezes on my iPhone when I try to browse my previous music purchases.

Basically, when I browse the purchased section of the iTunes Store app, I can't scroll at first at all. I let the list load for a bit, and it will let me scroll a little bit, but it then freezes again.  I've never been able to make it to the bottom of the list of purchased songs. The screen has some strange visual disturbances, like white bars or grey bars above or below the list when I try to scroll sometimes.
I realize it's a long list, probably about a thousand songs or so, but it seems like there should be a way to do this. When I try to scroll through my purchased apps from the App Store app, it's also very choppy, and not all the icons will load, but I can get through them all, maybe because I have purchase far fewer apps than music.
I have tried turning the phone on and off. But it's a new phone, so I wasn't planning on doing a restore just yet for a problem like this, which seems like it could just be a problem on Apple's end.
Just wondering if this a known issue or if anyone else has had this issue?

    Try a reset:
Hold the home and power buttons at the same time until the Apple boot logo appears. No data will be lost.
If it doesn't work, time for a restore.

  • ITunes Store - Will not go beyond the dashed progress bar, will also freeze any outside Internet activity

Alright, I've read numerous discussions and have tried to find an answer and have come up with zilch. Here's what's happening:
I open iTunes, and it attempts to connect to the iTunes store (presumably to update the Cloud). When it does this, it remains on the dashed progress bar. While attempting to connect, it will also freeze any other Internet applications, specifically any pages open in my browser (Chrome). I'm not sure why this is, I haven't seen anything on that subject. However, if I click the (x) next to the progress bar to tell it to stop, it will do so and I can listen with ease. Now, I'd actually like to use the iTunes Store, but whenever I do, it never gets anywhere. I get the dashed progress bar, which on occassion will move on to the solid progress bar, but it will completely freeze from there. I have tried doing the winsock reset, looking for conflicting programs with LSP, reinstalling, updating, none work. After running the network connectivity diagnostics, iTunes determines that everything is good except that a secure link to the iTues store failed. This led me to believe that there was a firewall of sorts that was blocking it. After adding iTunes to the list of exceptions to Windows Firewall, the same results were thrown back at me. I do not have any other programs that would block it (that I know of).
Please help? I just want to buy an album all legal-like.

    Hi there,
So it's sounds like you've already tried a majority of the main troubleshooting steps, but I would still recommend taking a look at some of the published troubleshooting found in the articles below.

  • Why does my iTunes store keep freezing when switching iTunes stores?

I have an account in both the Canada store and the U.S. store (I buy U.S. iTunes cards for use as some shows do not come to Canada until nearly a year after its U.S. store release). However, and don't ask why I haven't posted about this earlier I noticed for the past month or two when I switch from one to the other, my iTunes freezes completely forcing me to Force Quit it and restart. It will then be in the store I was switching into (from Canada to U.S. or vice versa) but it still had to freeze and be re-opened before I could access it. Is there any reason this might be happening? I feel like it might've happened after the most recent update because it did not used to do this. I have the latest iTunes update 11.1.3 (8).
    Thanks for anyone's help.

  • ITunes Store causing whole program to freeze on Windows 7 (64-bit)

So I installed iTunes 10.5 for Windows 7 (64-bit) and cannot open it up properly: the iTunes Store makes the entire program freeze up. I've cleared the DNS cache, closed my firewall, changed proxy settings, and iTunes it still unusable. What am I missing exactly? This is enough to tear the hair out of my head...

I can get it running if I run it in XP Mode, but I still don't have access to the Store...nobody has any ideas?

  • ITunes freezes on Sign In to iTunes Store - Windows 7 64 bit

In the last 48 hours I have not been able to use my iTunes software as it hangs immediately after launching.
I have tried a number of options to rectify the problem including Repairing the iTunes installation, Uninstalling/Reinstalling the program and System Restore to name a few. After some hours of searching I have established (after reading support.apple.com/kb/ts1717) that when I remove the Roaming Preference Files I am able to run iTunes however at this point it no longer automatically signs into the iTunes store. The problem arises as soon as I enter my user id and password the program becomes unresponsive.
I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions anyone could provide to help rectify the problem.
    Thanks

    Same problem.
Latest version of iTunes (10.5.2.11) and iCloud 1.0.2.17 installed. Only installed iCloud on the latest update.
iTunes frequently froze, so I deleted my roaming profile (having read of others having success by doing this).
iTunes now launches fine, downloads subscribed podcasts etc, I can access the iTunes store, but as soon as I try to log in using my apple id then itunes freezes and must be closed using task manager.
    I'm using Windows 7 32bit.
I just tried launching the iCloud control panel and it froze up too. Uninstalling iCloud didn't seem to fix the problem.
I can buy apps etc through my ipad and iphone, so maybe I can use itunes without logging into the store, but frankly I wish I could ditch itunes as the interface for my iphone/ipad.

  • Safari 4.0.3 PPC  = FREEZES when I click on iTunes Store Links!!!

*EVERY TIME I click on iTunes Store Link in Safari 4.0.3 it FREEZES!*
If I Disable Plug-ins, then NO PROBLEM, but then I can't watch Flash Videos on FaceBook etc.
I've Re-Install Safari Several Times, and this problem went away Temporarily.
    I've Deleted This File
    file:///Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/Plug-ins.html
and Reinstalled Safari again - same thing - this problem went away Temporarily.
I am on Powerbook G4, 10.4.11, all latest updates!
This problem with clicking on iTunes Store Links does NOT exist in the latest version of Firefox 3.5.3.
    How do I fix this!?
My only, faintly remote SUSPECT is Audio Hijack Pro 2.83, which is NOT the latest version of that product, but I am using it cause it's Use Interface is much more conducive to my needs!
But still, how come only Safari 4.0.3 is effected?
Hope SOMEONE will get back to me about this....

    Success:)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I clicked on Apple Care to call me. Within seconds my phone rang! A few minutes on Hold. A really nice guy read this Thread and confirmed that I probably should Download Security Update 2009-002 (Tiger PPC) http://support.apple.com/downloads/SecurityUpdate_2009_002__Tiger_PPC
The File Name was a bit unclear: Security Update 2009-002 (Tiger PPC) vs. Security Update 2009-002 (PowerPC)
After a quick discussion, I Download it and the File Name turned out to be identical to what I already had installed: Security Update 2009-002 (Tiger PPC). So, the difference in names, as seen at http://support.apple.com/downloads/SecurityUpdate_2009_002__Tiger_PPC was less than reassuring... But, then I looked at the Dates in Installed Updates in my System Preferences, and realized that I've installed Security Update 2009-002 (PowerPC) 8 minutes before installing Safari 3.2.3, since those updates were offered to my by the Software Updates!
The Apple Care guy though: maybe my Security Update 2009-002 (PowerPC) should have been installed after Safari?, or maybe it just got corrupted during the install?
Corrupted or not, that doesn't explain that I already have 2009-005 (PowerPC) which supposedly incorporates the previous updates, like this one, that Carolyn suggested -- Security Update 2009-002 (PowerPC).
So, after installing Security Update 2009-002 (PowerPC) and Restart a few minutes ago, I got *happy news* -- Success:)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -- I clicked on various iTunes links in my Safari, and it launched iTunes Store perfectly! Then I used Audio Hijack Pro, cause it has a Plug-in, and it was worked fine + this Freeze problem didn't come back! I Restarted with my Test User -- Success:)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! , Restarted with my Main User - Success:)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quit + Relaunched Safari several time - Success:)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll give it a week, and if the problem doesn't come back, than it's definitely a - Success:)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and I
can check off "Yes, my question has been answered. " :)!
BTW, according to my Apple Care hero who held my hand though this "surgery", when he looked at this Thread, he said that Carolyn had to be from Apple, if she had that designation: From: Apple USA on her post... But, at this point, I am just happy that it appears that the problem has been solved!
Thank to everyone for your time, starting with Carolyn:)! This Apple Discussion Boards-Forum -- ROCKS:)! Makes me even a more proud Apple User:)!

  • ITunes 11.1.3 freezes when connecting to ITunes Store

I've never had troubles with iTunes before, but as of yesterday, iTunes 11.1.3 (MacBook Pro 13" mid 2012, OS 10.7.5) freezes while in process of connecting to the iTunes Store or my loading my account.  I force it to quit ("iTunes not responding") and try again with the same results.  I've tried to restart the machine several times, I've verified the Disk on Disk Utilities, scanned for viruses, and just did an entire re-install with a new download of the same software.  All appears fine, but then I have the same problem when opening iTunes.  I'm able to get online with other applications, and I can access iTunes without problems via my iPad and iPhone.  So it has to be a software problem, but I can't figure out how to fix it.  Any advice is appreciated!

    Hello there, KMB1.
The following Knowledge Base article provides some great steps for isolating your issue running iTunes in Safe Mode:
iTunes: Troubleshooting issues with third-party iTunes plug-ins
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3430
There are several ways in which an add-on can cause iTunes to act erratically, such as those listed below:
    - Loss of iTunes functionality, such as the Visualizer.
    - Distortion or irregularity in the iTunes interface.
    - Slow performance.
    - iTunes won't open or quits unexpectedly.
    - You see an alert while syncing stating "... cannot be synced. A duplicate file name was specified."
If you notice any of the above symptoms or other unusual behavior, you can disable any plug-ins not manufactured by Apple by opening iTunes in Safe Mode. This is done by holding down the Option and Command keys (on Mac OS X) or holding down the Shift and Control keys (on Windows) while opening iTunes. If performed correctly, you should see the following dialog before iTunes finishes starting up:
"iTunes is running in Safe Mode. Visual plug-ins you have installed have been temporarily disabled."
If the above does not resolve your issue, try to isolate further by testing in another user account:
Isolating an issue by using another user account
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4053
    Symptoms
When isolating issues and/or troubleshooting software issues in OS X, you might want to use a different user account. Learn how to use this technique to narrow down the cause of an issue.
    Resolution
The issue at hand may simply be caused by a bad preference setting or user-specific data file. With proper isolation, you can avoid time-consuming and inappropriate troubleshooting methods.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Repost: Still having problems w/ Safari 4 freezing from iTunes Store links

    Hey all,
A week ago I posted about having problems with links from the iTunes store. A helpful user suggested I use the Onyx application to reset all caches, etc. I did, and my problem was solved...
... or so I thought. Within a day, a new iTunes store link froze Safari. I used Onyx again, and again it seemed to solve the problem. Until today, when again, iTunes store links freeze Safari.
I can't figure out what might be causing it. I've eliminated all Safari extraneous extension/plug-ins, and the websites I haven't been visiting any "weird" websites.
I'll describe the problem again to see if a fresh perspective can help.
Ever since the Safari 4 beta (I now have the full Safari 4), any iTunes store link will freeze Safari. The link could be a webloc from my hard drive, a link from another web page, anything. A new window/tab will open with the grey box that says, "Loading." This is where it freezes. I do not have a spinning beach ball, and right-clicking on the dock icon does not say Safari is unresponsive. However, Safari will not respond to commands. Clicking on the dock icon does not bring Safari to the front, and if I have Safari in front anyway, menu options will not work. I can't close the window, click in anything on said window, switch to another window... nothing. My only solution is to force quit.
For the record, I'm running Safari 4 on a Power Mac G4 (Quicksilver, yes, I know, it's ancient) with OS X 10.4.11. I have all the security updates.
Any and all help is GREATLY appreciated!!

Since I installed 5.1.1 every time I access the iTunes store app from my iPhone and iPad the iTunes store freezes. I cannot browse or purchase from the store. It freezes then closes out. I think it is linked to when My iTunes match is activated on my OS devices. I was on the phone with apple tech support for an hour, no help. Anyone else having connectivity issues with the iTunes store app from either the iPhone on iPad? If so were u able to fix it?

Please note i have tried turning off the phone, different card, it is not a bank issue and i have tried signing in and out of itunes

  • TS1717 I can't open iTunes. I'd been experiencing frequent freezes when I was using the iTunes store the past few days. What can I do to open iTunes?

? I can't open iTunes at all. When I hit the icon, it lights up but doesn't engage to open the program. The past few days I'd been experiencing frequent freezes when using the iTunes Store. Any ideas for how to open iTunes?

I would copy over the entire thing if you have room.  With iTunes 10.4 though, you can download any previous iTunes purchases you have made in the past with your current iTunes account.  While in iTunes, look at the left hand side of your screen and select "Purchases" and look at the bottom right corner of the screen and select "Download Previous Purchases".  If you have an iPhone, iPod and/or iPad...you can do the same thing from each device.  Nice new feature...just remember that those ripped CDs need a back-up!!!  Enjoy...

If Safari still freezes, try this:
    1. Go to Home/Library/Cookies and delete the Cookies.plist file.
    2. Go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
    3. Go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Web Page Previews and delete the contents of that folder.
    4. If you don't want to use the Top Sites or Cover Flow features, open Terminal and paste in this command:

then press Enter or Return and quit Terminal
    5. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari and delete the contents of that folder.

Then Repair Permissions, restart Safari and see if the problem continues.

After downloading the new version of Itunes onto my windows 8, my computer freezes when i attempt access into itunes store.  How can I fix this problem?

Never heard of that being caused by installing iTunes. Try asking on a Windows forum. This isn't a problem with iTunes or any other Apple product. If you believe it is, uninstall iTunes. If the problem persists, you'll have to seek advice on a Windows forum or contact Microsoft for support.
