ITunes 8.0: no "create ringtone" option

Howdy, first posting, hope I'm not too much of an idiot, but: I've upgraded to iTunes 8.0. When I select a song that has a "bell" icon, if I click on it, it gives me the "help" menu about creating a ringtone...but it won't actually create a ringtone. If I go to the "store" menu, the "create ringtone" option can't be accessed. I'm in the USA and my computer seems to know that, and I've downloaded ringtones in prior versions of iTunes. Many thanks in advance for answers.

Yeah, I seem to be having the same problem. The bell icon is next to the song, I click it and I keep getting the instructions. Not the box on the bottom to create the ringtone. Also in "Store", create ringtone is greyed out, not giving me that option. Wondering if there is a workaround or solution to this.

  • "Create Ringtone" option is dithered--can't purchase ringtones at all

I want to purchase a ringtone. I highlight the song I want to buy--it has a bell--but when I go up to Store---the "create ringtone" option is dithered--don't have the option to buy it. What is up?

You have to buy the song first, then you can buy the ringtone for songs where ringtones are available (easiest to do that from your Purchased playlist). Also, note that ringtones are only available when logged into the US iTunes Store (check the popup menu at the bottom of the main page of the iTunes Store).

  • Error (11556) on itunes for creating ringtone???

So i right click on purchased song from itunes and go to create ringtone and get a error coming up everytime i try it.
    it reads-
"Itunes cannot connect to itunes store. An unknown erroe occurred (11556).
Make sure you network connection is active and try again."
i checked my network and its all working fine so has anyone else had this heppen and if so have you figured this out or does anyone know what this error is???

Yep! Once again, a 'bad apple' for Canadian. I got that 115566 error every time I tried to make a ringtone in iTunes. Happened no matter what. Then here in this forum I saw the thing about the country. I switched to United States and voila! I can make ringtunes. I still can't buy anything until I get back to the U.S. store, but it DOES make the Ringtunes problem go away.

  • Ringtones - I cannot get the Create Ringtone editor to open

I click on the Bell but no editor opens. I try to find Create Rington in the menu and I cannot find it. I have the latest version of iTunes. What am I doing wrong. I have purchased the songs I want to have as ringtones but they just won't work.
    I am so frustrated! HELP!

Thank you. You have validated what I finally figured out. I purchased the song I wanted as a ringtone. It did have the bell so it was available. The song downloaded and I did a sync on my phone. Still no ringtone. I finally did go to the purchased folder under Store in the left navigation window. I found the song I wanted to create as a ringtone and I did a right click. Sure enough in the window was the Create Ringtone option. I had to sign into the store again and agree to the terms. Then I had to right click and select Create Ringtone again. Then the editor came up and I was able to create and purchase my ringtone. Hurray!

  • Purchased songs on iPhone with ringtone options, not showing up as so

I purchased some songs on iphone last night. This morning while looking at the same songs in the iTunes store these SAME songs from the SAME album show that there is an option to make them into ringtones. But when I synced the songs purchased on my phone to my itunes on my mac, the ringtone options are not showing up. I have the column checked to show ringtone availability on my itunes but the bell icon is not showing up in the column like it is in the iTunes store for these songs. Please Help.

Right click on the song in your library and choose create ringtone. It will bring you to iTunes to make one. If it is not allowed, then not much I can say from there. I find the icons in ones own library are never accurate. Sort of like it scanned once, but won't again.

  • "Create Ringtone" not showing up

Hi there, I'm trying to create a ringtone for my iPhone from a song in iTunes but when I right-click and look for the "create ringtone" option from the list of tasks, it is not there.
Has anyone else had this problem or can anyone tell me how to make it show up?
    Thanks

    Are you in the U.S?
Itunes purchased/created ringtones are available in the U.S. only for now.
There are many ways to make ringtones from anywhere.
    Google will find them.

  • Cannot create rington

I have latest iTunes and 1.1.3 firmware.
I created a rigntone from a song I had purchased a few days previous. After I was satisfied with the ringtone, I clicked "buy". It charged me for the song again, and did not create the ringtone.
I would have contacted apple, but I searched all over the site and there was no support email to be found. I checked my purchase history, and underneath it it says "report problem". I click the button, and the button disappears and nothing else pops up.
    Awesome.

  • Ringtone option not showing up for certain songs in itunes

Ok, so some of my songs that I purchased on itunes are now ringtone eligible and the bell isn't showing up in my itunes. I have the most up to date version of itunes. I don't understand why a song that I have purchased in the last month that originally wasn't ringtone capable, but now is, itunes isn't giving me the option to make it a ringtone. Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Help!!!

There has been a bug reported in iTunes with bell symbols disappearing...it happened to me once a couple weeks ago.
Right click on the song in your that you think is ringtone-capable and select "Create Ringtone". If the song really is ringtone-capable, it will open the ringtone creation window. If it's not ringtone-capable, you'll get an error message.

  • Creating Ringtones in iTunes

I used to be able to create ringtones from music in my iTunes library but cannot in version 10.x. How do you create ringtones in the latest version? Or is this no longer an option?

Type "how to create ringtones in itunes 10" into the Google search bar.
    You will get instructions.
There are also several other free ways to create ringtones.
Google will find them as well.

  • Problems with 'Create Ringtone' Function in iTunes

I am using an iPhone, connected to iTunes 7.5(19) on a MacBook running Mac OS X 10.4.11 Within iTunes there is the option to 'Create Ringtone' which as I understand it, should be selected once a song has been selected within the iTunes window (ie one that has already been purchased). When I do this, I get the message "ITunes could not connect to the iTunes Store" - this is confusing as I can successfully connect to the iTunes store from iTunes to do all the usual things I would normally do in linking to the store. Any insights/suggested fixes would be appreciated as I have drawn a blank with everything that I have tried to do to solve this.

I have exactly the same problem with a new imac and iphone. itunes have been unable to help. Have you solved it problem yet?

  • Missing/ Lost 'Creating MP3' option from iTunes

I used to be able to right click WAV file in iTunes and select Creating/Converting to MP3 file. I just used this options a few days ago. Now, I don't have this option. I'm not sure why. I wonder if it's because of I just updated to iTunes 9.1 version.
    Can anyone please help?
Note: I do have my import setting as MP3 encoder.
    Thank you.

Thank you very much. I found it according to your instruction now. I used to be able to just right click the song so I was surprised that it's disappeared.
If I maybe trouble you one more thing, I believe I used to be able right click and select 'create ringtones'. That seems to be gone too.
    Thank you.

  • Creating Ringtones on itunes for iPhone

I have been trying to create ringtones for my iPhone from itunes.
But every time I try ti great it, it comes up with an unknow error 1156. and says that itunes cannot connect to itunes store.
Is anyone else is also facing this problem?

    This worked for me...
In iTunes, right click on the song you are going to make into a ringer and select “Get Info.”
Go to the options tab and go down to the “Start Time” and “Stop Time” check boxes. Check both boxes and input the time you want your ringtone to start/stop. The ringtone has to be 30 seconds or less. Click OK when you’re done.
Right click on your newly “clipped” song and select “Convert Selection to AAC.” The song will be re-encoded using the start and stop times determined (If your menu item does not read “Convert Selection to AAC” and reads “Convert Slection to MP3″ (or some other format) please go to iTunes > Preferences > Advanced > Importing and change the “Import Using” drop down menu to “AAC Encoder”).
After the song is done encoding navigate to your iTunes Music folder, locate your song, and drag it to your desktop. After the song is on your desktop go back to iTunes and delete the clipped version from you iTunes library (It won’t delete it from your desktop, it will only remove it from iTunes).
Go back the song on your desktop and right click on your song and chose “Get info.” Go to the name and extension section and change the extension from .m4a to .m4r (or you can just change the extension right from your desktop)
After the extension is changed simply double click on the file to add it to your iTunes library under the ringtones section. Sync your phone with iTunes and you’re done!
What you need to do is turn on "View File Extensions" under your folder view options.
Then go to your desktop right-click, rename and change the .m4a to .m4r and sey yes when it asks if youre sure.

  • ITunes Created Ringtones No Longer Playing

All of the sudden for no reason at all (i.e., I haven't damaged, added to or subtracted from apps, etc) the custom ringtones I made in iTunes are not playing on my iPhone. If I choose them in the settings menu, all I get is silence. I've got customs ringtones I created in Garageband that still work fine as do all the stock ringtones on the phone.
The iTunes ringtones show up and play fine in iTunes. They show as synced to the phone. I've restored the phone OS three times without using a backup so it would be fresh. This is FRUSTRATING! Anyone have any ideas?

Okay, I completely removed iTunes and reinstalled. Re-imported my library of music/podcasts in a completely recreated iTunes library file AND still my iTunes created ringtones (THAT I PAID FOR) don't play. They are silent on the iPhone. They play in iTunes but not the phone.
    Any ideas? This is sickening.
Is there any way a hardware issue would cause this? I would think if it plays some music, it must be software. I just have no idea where to look now.

  • ITunes will not create Ringtone - iTunes Library is on ext hard drive

I see the bell in iTunes, iTunes analyzed my library to identify ringtonable songs but when I click to Create Ringtone it processes then doesn't do anything. I keep my library on an external hard drive to allow for my wife to connect to it at will. Must the library be local to store the ringtones?

I have the same issue. It looks like it will create it then just quits.
