ITunes 8.02 crashed my computer

Just downloaded 8.02 and restarted my computer -- got the message that Windows could not start, so it did a startup repair, which took quite awhile. When my computer finally successfully restarted, I found that the system had uninstalled iTunes. So, I went to Apple's website and re-installed it. Restarted the computer, and this time on the start-up screen I got a message that it was installing updates, "do not turn off your computer". Then the computer started up, but when I try to open iTunes, I get a message that QuickTime was not found and "please re-install iTunes".
I run Windows Vista. Have never had any problems with previous versions of iTunes. Any suggestions?

Try downloading and installing the standalone version of QuickTime from http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/.
Be sure you download the version that does not include iTunes.

  • Itunes 7.0 crashed my computer

Hi, since I installed the new version of itunes on my computer, each time I open the itunes store, it crashes my computer and then restarts it. It is a low memory issue? I tried to re-download the old version, but since I have installed the most recent one, I can't.

Start by providing specifics of what is occurring (including any error messages that are occurring) when attempting to restore the device.  That is if help is actually desired.

  • I downloaded the latest version of itunes and it crashed my computer

I have a Dell Inspiron 530 with Windows 7 professional, my computer was working just fine. I tried to update my iTunes to version 12.1.1, everything was fine until it prompted me to restart my computer. When my computer rebooted, it only boots to the Dell screen and I can either select the set up menu or the boot menu, and when i select the boot menu my computer wont even boot with the HDD, it says that a recent hardware or software change could be the result. Please help

Use System Restore to undo the changes. See http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/SLN85604/EN
This may leave iTunes in an inconsistent state so you may have to do a full tear down and reinstall.

  • ITunes is crashing my computer

Hi, I would really appreciate it if someone could help me with my problem. My laptop crashes everytime I open iTunes. Once iTunes load, my computer starts to lag pretty bad until it totally crashes. The only thing I could do is to hold my laptop's power button until it completely shuts down. I'm using a Vaio VPCEA12EG, running on Windows 7 Home Basic 64-Bit.
iTunes used to work just fine on my laptop. I just started to notice this problem when I played an mp3 song one day, prompting it to load on iTunes, thus crashing my computer. Once it crashed, I thought that maybe it was just an isolated case since it was just the first time it happened. Then, a few days later, I plugged in my sister's iPod shuffle. It then crashed my computer again for loading iTunes. My sister was resquesting for me to load songs on her iPod so I was forced to keep trying, and much to my surprise, iTunes kept on crashing my computer.
I tried uninstalling iTunes (trying uninstall-install method), but it also ends up crashing my laptop. It just gets stuck on "Configuring iTunes. 31 seconds remaining." So basically, I CAN'T uninstall iTunes from my system. I'm planning to get an iPhone 4 soon and I can't afford not to be able to use iTunes on my own laptop.
Here's a summarized background of my problem:
    1. iTunes used to work on my laptop.
    2. One day, it just stopped working. iTunes crashes my computer everytime I try to use it:
    *When I double-click/open the program.
*When I sync an Apple product.
*When I open a music file with iTunes.
    3. The only thing I could do after iTunes crashes my computer is to hold the power button until my computer completely shuts off.
    4. I tried uninstalling it, but it ALSO crashes my computer. Bottomline, I couldn't remove iTunes from my computer.
Has anyone encountered a similar problem? I hope someone can help me with this problem. I'm at my wits end as I can't even uninstall iTunes from my system. Any help or feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, mtglenwright. I was able to solve this problem. What I did was I uninstalled iTunes, then installed it again. But the catch is that it always crash the computer, right? What worked for me is that I LEFT THE COMPUTER ALONE UNTIL IT FINISHED THE UNINSTALLING.
Follow the order in this guide:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
The important thing is that you should leave your computer alone until it finishes each process. For example, when you click uninstall, just leave your computer alone until it finishes! As in DO NOT USE YOUR COMPUTER FOR ANYTHING. Do not use it to surf the net, do not use it to play solitaire, do not even move your mouse! It will take a LONG time. I actually left my computer overnight. When I woke up, I saw that it was able to uninstall iTunes! If you use your computer while you are uninstalling iTunes, your computer will most likely crash. I suggest that you do this at night when you absolutely don't need to use your computer for anything.
Anyway, this is what worked for me. I hope it will also work on your computer. Good luck!

  • Tried to install newest itunes, crashed during install, and now crashes my computer every time i try to uninstall.  Itunes doesn't show up in the Add/remove prog list at all.  tried to roll back over a month, still crashing.

So I tried to update to the newest Itunes.  It locked up my computer part way thru the install.  Black screen, computer turned itself off.  Now anytime i try to do anything with Itunes it shuts my computer down.  I can start up fine in safe mode but when i try to uninstall from there, Itunes doesn't exist.  the other apple programs do, but no itunes.  when i try to uninstall the other programs in safe mode it tells me it can't because the windows installer isn't loaded.  I have system restored to over a month ago and itunes still doesn't show up in add/remove programs.  however, i can open itunes.  it just tells me a file didn't get installed and to uninstall and reinstall.  So, how do i remove a progam that doesn't think it exists and crashes my computer when i try to do anything related to it???  I'm out of ideas.  running windows vista.

I think my problem is fixed now.
For the fun of it, I reinstalled iTunes 9.2.1 today (using the exact same installer as I did yesterday), but this time I didn't uninstall iTunes first. As expected, iTunes recognized my iPhone (as I expected it to, until my next reboot).
A few minutes later, Software Update showed up and among the updates is "iPhone SDK Compatibility Update". The description indicates that installing this should fix an issue where iPhones and iPod touches aren't recognized by iTunes. Isn't that interesting?
I installed that update and most of the others waiting for me (including Java, Safari 5.0.1, and a few others - not 10.6.4 though, due to the issues with nVidia graphics cards). After the reboot, I started iTunes, and it saw my iPhone!
So, if you're having this same problem, I'd recommend tracking down this update and see if that does the trick for you. Hopefully it will.

  • I'm new to Mac. I have an iPhone and a Mac Mini.  My original iTunes was on a Windows computer that crashed.  So, all of my iTunes Music and Movies are gone.  How do I get the movies and music from my iPhone to the new Mac Mini?

If you still have the crashed Win computer, you may be able to recover your music and movies from the hard drive. If you have a friend with a hard drive USB connection kit and a PC, they should be able to help.  Otherwise, check locally for computer services that might do that for you (I think Best Buy Geek Squad may be able to help). If the drive itself is in good shape, it shouldn't be too expensive.

  • I wiped my ipod classic and then my computer crashed, so i no longer have the songs i purchsed from itunes on my ipod or computer! I have a new computer now with itunes installed, can I get the songs purchased previously from itunes somehow?

I wiped my ipod classic and then my computer crashed, so i no longer have the songs i purchsed from itunes on my ipod or computer! I have a new computer now with itunes installed, can I get the songs purchased previously from itunes somehow?

    Yes, you can!(:
    STEP 1: Open iTunes
STEP 2: Navigate to the "iTunes Store". It can be found under the "STORE" tab.
STEP 3: On the right side of the store there should be a "Quick Links" Section. Click on the "Purchased" link.
STEP 4: Navigate to the "Music" tab and click on "All Songs". Then at the bottom of the screen there will be a button that says "Download All". Click the button and your songs will be begin downloading!
NOTE: This will only work with songs that you bought from the iTunes store, if you imported them from a CD, you will have to do it again.
NOTE: You can also do this with Apps, Movies, TV Shows, and Books.
NOTE: You may have to sign in with your Apple ID to verify the download.
Hope this helped! Enjoy your music!(:

  • Itunes video crashes my computer

I recently purchased a video iPod (my photo iPod broke) and updated my iTunes software. Now, every time I try to open the video page in iTunes, it crashes my computer. Either the computer freezes and I have to reboot or it goes blue screen and reboots itself. Per Apple customer service request, I have uninstalled iTunes, turned off my anti-virus software, reinstalled, but had the same problem. I've even gone through the whole msconfig window getting rid of unused startup processes. Nothing seems to work.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    thank you falcon8r!
a good thing we've got the engineers on the case, since:
    0x000000F4
i can't recall seeing that error code showing up here before. so we don't have a simple list of things to check through (based on my experience here). MS doesn't have any documentation on specific XP-related causes of the 0x000000F4, but we know from this MS document that you've got a problem related to a system process:
    Bug Check 0xF4: CRITICALOBJECTTERMINATION
... so if you're still keen on continuing our investigations, we might be able to get some more info about which process is in pain by checking the event logs. (this might help with giving us a shorter list of possibilities.)
right-click "My Computer", select "Manage" and click "Event Viewer". let's look through the Application and System logs for error/warning events that are regularly coinciding with the 0x000000F4s.
if you find candidate types of event, click on an example of each to bring up a small window. note down the Source, Event ID and Description of the process, and post back with your findings.

You'll need to copy the music currently on your iPod to your new PC and into iTunes first before you can sync it to the new iPod.

  • ITunes 11.1.5 crashes my computer

after installing itunes 11.1.5 it crashes my computer every time I launch it as soon as it starts downloading from the cloud.
If I run itunes in safe mode and do not download from the cloud it will run all day but as soon as I launch it normally so I can download from the icloud it crashes the whole computer.
I can provide full driver and software specs if necassary since this is a custom built machine.

Blue screen of death type crash? Is there an error message? Have you tried reinstalling iTunes in the way shown in Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates?

  • ITunes+quicktime crashes my computer

Ok, here's the thing, I have downloaded the update for my iPod touch, and i tried to install the new itunes. but it starts the installation process and it will crash my system. I do not get the bsod, it just cuts to black. I am starting to get furious because now i don't even have iTunes on my computer. whats the deal, why does it keep crashing?

Agreed. This has been a problem for me for the last three upgrades to iTunes and Quicktime. I've solved it in the past by deleting Quicktime and downloading an older version... but that is not working this time. Now my iPhone has 2.1 firmware and I can no longer sync my calendar, let alone any of my music because I can't get iTunes 8.0 working (agian because everytime I try to install it crashes my computer). It'd be nice if Apple actually addressed this... or at least gave us an indication why this might be happening.

  • Just updated iTunes now it freezes and crashes my computer? anyone have a solution? I'm using windows 7 home premium

My iTunes has been freezing when it opens then crashes my computer. I have uninstalled it, reinstalled, updated yet it still will not open? I am using windows 7 home premium 3.2GHz with 4Gig of ram. All my other programs work flawless but iTunes will not? anyone have a solution?

Having found a working library file it may pay to copy it into the standard location and reconnect to it there. See Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash for the steps I would normally have given.

  • Watching Sons of Anarchy in iTunes crashes my computer

Hello, I purchased season 1 episode 1 of sons of anarchy through the iTunes store, and when I watch it my computer crashes every time at somewhere between 2 - 5 minutes into the show. This is on Windows 7 x64, with a quad core CPU and 4 GB of RAM. My CPU cores never go above 15% utilization while watching, and plenty of RAM available, no irregular heat either. Video drivers are current, OS is fully patched.
I watch and transcode HD video all the time on my computer, from disc and file - never had issues. But I rarely use iTunes, so perhaps this is just a problem with that playback. Hard to tell since the DRM prevents me from actually troubleshooting this. Any thoughts? iTunes 10.0.1.22
    Regards,
    Rob

Even the standard definition versions crash my computer. But only for that 1 show, episodes from other shows I bought from Apple work fine. Last straw, running iTunes on Windows is just way to flaky for me, and they won't even answer questions about it at the "genius bar".

  • The computer with iTunes on it crashed

The computer with iTunes on it crashed, fortunately I do keep backups so when I bought a new PC I was able to install Itunes and restore all my content. BUT, I also have a AppleTV1 which I used to keep partialy synched with Itunes (all music, photos but only some TV shows and Movies).
I have re-enabled connection to the AppleTV, but all that iTunes wants to do is stream from my PC, not synch with it.
I suspect that if I were to do a factory restore on the AppleTV that all would be well, but for time considerations I don't wnat to do this, nor do I think I should have to.
How do I re-institute synch beteen iTunes and my Apple TV please?

    Hi Glenn,
You need to Authorize your Mom's computer to your iTunes sign on. Sign on to iTunes, then go to Store at the top of the screen, and select Authorize this Computer.
Then you can download your purchases from your iTunes library by going to the iTunes Store (the one in the sidebar), Music, and then under Quick Links, Purchased.
Once the Purchased window comes up, select "Not on this Computer", and then select All Songs. Your purchased songs will display with a cloud next to them, and you can download them selectively or "Download All" (lower right-hand corner).
    Hope this helps!
    Cheers,
    GB
