ITunes 8.02 Missing iTunes Plus link ?

I thought this was to be in the Quick Links section of iTunes, but I do not have this link. Can someone explain this to me, please. Is there another why to upgrade your music? Thanks.

Here is the latest on this problem. A few days ago, I could not log into my iTunes account. I tried the next day and get in fine. To my surprise, the link was present with the number of songs available to upgrade. Within a minute, the store refreshed itself, and it was gone again.
I backed up my complete music library to an external hard drive and followed the instructions that support gave me to remove iTunes and all related files. I then download it again, installed it, and still not link.
Now support is going to reset my password and test my account.

  • Grace period for iTunes Plus?

In the past couple of months (as recently as five days ago), I've purchased some non-Plus iTunes albums. Now, several of them are being offered as Plus upgrades to me.
Is there any grace period for newly purchased items, or do I just need to swallow a $3-or DRM penalty for buying something on its release date?

at least be pointed to some documentation about this
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1711
"Can I upgrade previously purchased music to iTunes Plus?
Yes. Any available upgrades will be shown on the Upgrade to iTunes Plus page. You can upgrade all of your items at once by using the Buy All button. This replaces all eligible previous purchases with iTunes Plus versions of the same items. You can also choose to make individual upgrades by clicking the Buy button to the right of each item. Song upgrades are available for 0.30 USD, video upgrades for 0.60 USD, and albums for 30 percent of the album price. The counter to the right of the "Upgrade to iTunes Plus" link in the Quick Links box will indicate when additional eligible content become available."

  • ITunes Plus FAQs doesn't make sense: Needs a tutorial and clear instruction

    Hi,
My wife and I have spent over an hour trying to "simply" purchase anything in iTunes plus and the FAQ's don't help. I haven't a clue how to do it, or would I really want to given the the Question (if I'm reading it right) "Can I still buy music encoded at 128kbps with DRM?" Answer: No.
If I won't be able to buy the usual iTunes music available at 128kbps that makes up the majority of iTunes music purchases (hardly anything i want is available in itunes plus) why would I want to cut myself from buying the larger available music source? I must have misunderstood this, but as we can't seem to find a way to upgrade yet, prices still reflect the itunes music, (no link to a plus version or a plus price) iTunes haven't exactly made upgrading songs transparent. I think they need to post a tutorial to show the process.
When I click on the itunes plus I'm presented with an album and 3 songs from my own library (not my wife's even though we were in that when we clicked on the upgrade) I guess I can upgrade those if I take up the special offer. But no information beyond that. No info on what that will do to her library, my library, future purchases not available in iTunes plus, etc.
Concerns about upgrading a library of a few hundred songs and being billed for all that is putting me off taking up the offer at the moment.

I'm not sure I understand your question. Tracks are available only in two formats: the "normal" format of 128 Kbps AAC with copy protection which makes up the bulk of the content on the iTunes Store, and iTunes Plus tracks (currently offered only on music from EMI and from a few independent labels) which are 256 Kbps AAC without copy protection. As of several months ago, the price for Plus and non-Plus tracks is identical and you don't have a choice of which you select; if a track is iTunes Plus, it will not be offered in the lower-rate copy-protected format (there's no reason why anyone with sense would not want their tracks as iTunes Plus).
So when you go to buy a track, if it's iTunes Plus, that's the way you'll purchase it and the only format in which that track will be available. You'll be able to tell by the "+" symbol next to the price.
As to upgrading, when you click on the iTunes Plus link and then Upgrade, the iTunes Store will then show any tracks you have purchased - and it's by the iTunes Store account you are logged into (it's based on the account's Purchase History), not the library currently in use that governs what upgrade options are shown - that are eligible for upgrade to Plus. Depending on what label released the tracks you bought, there might be many eligible for upgrade or only a few (or none). When you upgrade (and you have to upgrade all the tracks at once; you can't pick and choose), iTunes will give you the option of just replacing and deleting the old tracks, or replacing them and keeping them. If you choose the latter, iTunes will move the old versions to a separate folder.

  • Impossible to access to itunes plus

    Hi guys,
since a few days ago i became unable to enter in itnues plus.
Every time i click on iTunes Plus link i receive an error that sound like this:
"Can't complete the iTunes Store's request. It may be busy. Check the connection or try later."
The strangest fact is that i can enter in every other links, like iTunes U, Complete Album etc etc.
I have problem only on itunes Plus.
What can i do to solve the problem, or at least to understand where is the problem?
    Bye

Saluti

  • Ho do I upgrade or buy a song using Itunes Plus?

How do I upgrade or buy a song using I-Tunes Plus?

All songs in the iTunes Store are iTunes Plus now, so anything you purchase will by default be in that format. As to existing tracks, if there are any eligible to be upgraded, they should appear when you click the "iTunes Plus" link under the Quick Links on the main iTunes Store page.
    Regards.

  • How to check for iTunes Plus upgrades

I can't find the link to check if I can upgrade my iTunes purchases to iTunes plus. It use to be on the store's main page. Is it gone? Is there another way to check? I know that at least one of my purchases is for sale as an iTunes Plus selection but I can't find a way to upgrade.

If you don't have the iTunes Plus link in your Quick Links list, then you don't have any songs/albums that are upgradeable. I have the same problem that you described: I have some DRM versions of albums that are now available in iTunes Plus format. Yet they have never shown up in my upgrade section.
I e-mailed iTunes support about this issue. I received a response that, essentially, the new versions provided by the labels are slightly different in some way and cannot be matched to your purchase history. So you're out of luck.
If someone can shed more light on that, I would appreciate it. I'm obviously not too thrilled with that response.

  • Itunes plus is overlooking numerous albums and sons for upgrade

I've been upgrading my music using iTunes plus. Unfortunately, iTunes is failing to offer me the upgrade option for several albums and miscellaneous songs -- despite the fact THAT THESE ARE STILL AVAILABLE IN THE ITUNES STORE.
I haven't changed accounts or anything.
Has anyone else had this problem and managed to get it solved by Apple? How?
If I have to rebuy these albums, it sure and heck won't be from Apple.
    Thx.

Yes I have the exact same problem. While many songs show up in my "Upgrade to iTunes Plus" link on the iTunes Store, there are many many more that do not appear in this list. These are the exact same tracks, on the same album, and the same price point (bought for 0.99 and they are still 0.99) but they don't show up in the upgrade page.
Further to this: I think if the songs you originally purchased have changed price points (was 0.99 but now the price is 1.29) then the upgrade may not work.
Another annoying thing I noticed is that many of the upgrades that I did purchase are actually different versions of the tracks from a different album, even thought the original version of the track is there at the store on the same album at the same price point! Very frustrating.
Would love to hear if somebody knows why some tracks don't show up as available upgrades.

  • HT1727 How do you upgrade previously purchased items to iTunes Plus from DRM

I can not find the instructions on screen in the iTunes Store to upgrade purchased songs from the DRM files to the iTunes Plus style.

Log into your iTunes Store account and look for an "iTunes Plus" link under the Quick Links:
Click that. If nothing appears, then the iTunes Store doesn't think you have any tracks that are eligible to be upgraded and you may have to buy the tracks again if you want them in the upgraded format, or sign up for ITunes Match which should upgrade all those tracks.
    Regards.

  • ITunes Plus trouble

I have been having trouble accessing iTunes Plus.
After selecting the iTunes Plus link I am presented with a account login panel.
I put my password in and it returns to the panel, I try again and the same thing keeps on happening.
    What's wrong?
Do I need to de-authorize my computer?
    Please help.

I have the same problem and since 8.1 it also happens when trying to update my iPhone applications from iTunes. Tried to deauthorize/authorize my computer, sign out/sign in and nothing does.
    I'm puzzled. Any clues?

  • ITunes Plus "Buy" button missing

I cannot upgrade individual songs using iTunes Plus.  The only options I have are to uprade albums or "Buy All".  There are over 400 songs listed but my only choice is to upgrade all.  However, when I log in using a different computer, I can buy individual songs.  Already worked for a week with iTunes Store support and got nowhere.  They determined it's not my account.  So it seems to be some sort of software conflict.  Has anyone else had this problem and been able to resolve it?  And upgrading via another machine and downloading via "Purchased" function had a whole different set of problems which make that an unworkable option.

the buy button is missing on my wish list.  downloaded new version of itunes -- checked all my account info--now what?
Buy the songs one at a time.  Believe it or not, that's how iTunes works now.

  • ITunes plus is missing?

Most of my music library is now 256 kbs but I still have a few at only 128 kbs. I had chosen to upgrade many of my albums using the iTunes plus but I cannot find the link in the store to do it for the few remaining albums that I had purchased on the store. Does anyone know how to get to it?

So perhaps it does go away when there are none available for upgrade
The iTunes Plus will indeed not appear if there are no tracks shown as eligible for upgrade.
I'm surprised a few of the albums aren't available for uprade though as other albums from the same artists (Lamb and Space Raiders for instance) were.
Apple was unable to obtain rights to sell some albums sans DRM, so those albums were removed from the iTunes Store when DRM was dropped. For other albums, they're still available in the iTunes Store but for various reasons - a slight change in the album title, for instance - the link from a your account's Purchase History, which is what the iTunes Store uses to look for upgrades, may have broken.
Check to see if the track(s) you've purchased still appear in the iTunes Store. If you do see the tracks/albums in the iTunes Store, contact the iTunes Store Customer Service department using the form on their Support page (select the category and subcategory closest to the issue you're reporting) and explain your situation to them. They may be able to work out a solution for you. You may need to provide the track name, artist and order number so they can confirm the original purchase.
    Good luck.
    Regards.

  • Missing Complete My Album and iTunes Plus Check For Upgraded Songs.

    Anyone else experiencing this combination?
Anyone else have a clue what is going on with the iTunes store? I see a lot of problems on the message board. I wanted to complete a couple of albums today and was hoping to do so. Apparently the recording industry does not want my money.
Any help would be appreciated. I uninstalled then reinstalled itunes to no avail.

I'm having similar issues when trying to upgrade my library to iTunes plus tracks. I get the following error:
'The item you tried to buy is no longer available.
The availability of the item changed while you were using the store. The same item may be available with a different price or elsewhere on the store.'
    What am I doing wrong?
Are we experiencing similar issues to that described in this older post?.....

  • Error 5002 when trying to look at iTunes Plus

I just bought a new MBP, and since I used my education discount, I got a $100 gift card to use in the App Store/iTunes/etc. I have a bunch of songs I bought back when iTunes had DRM, so I was going to use this money to upgrade some of those purchases to iTunes Plus. However, whenever I click on "iTunes Plus" under Quick Links, I get a popup telling me that I can't access iTunes Plus because "Unknown Error 5002 Ocurred"
I've looked up the problem, and I've tried things like changing/resetting my billinb info, re-installing iTunes, and resetting my internet connection, but I have not had any luck so far. Does anyone know how to solve this?

    Hi Sanjit
Thanks very much. Yes, a bit of online research helped me to track down
the problem. It was some redirects in the .htaccess file in the root
directory (this site is located in a subdirectory). All fixed now!
    Regards

  • Burning iTunes Plus and other 256 bit rate material to get best quality?

I understand that iTunes Plus and most songs on Amazon are provided at a higher bit rate than non-Plus iTunes songs in order to provide higher audio quality on playback. But, does this quality differential come through when burning a song to disc from within iTunes?
I ask because of an experiment I just conducted. I downloaded the same song from iTunes (not a Plus version) and from Amazon. The Amazon version takes up twice as much file space as the iTunes version. (The ACC file at 128kbps was 5MB while the MPEG file at 256 kbps was 11.6MB.) However, when I burned both songs to a CD, those files where identical in size. Further, when played on a near-audiophile stereo system, I could hear no discernible difference between the two.
So the question: Does whatever extra information and hence sound quality contained in the Plus or other 256 kbps material get lost in the conversion to audio CD format? Are there settings in iTunes I'm missing? Are there alternative software or file formats available that would burn audio CDs without this loss?
(I realize that whatever difference there is in sound quality would not be detectable on most equipment. What I'm looking for is to preserve quality differences that can be heard on high-end equipment. As it is, I'm able to tell the difference between well-recorded and produced commercial CDs and the same material bought through iTunes.)

The quality of compressed audio is not always linked to file size. I believe it is possible for a 128 kbps AAC file to sound as good as a 256 kbps MP3 file. MP3 is not the best audio compression format but it is by far the most commonplace. A 128 kbps AAC file isn't as good as a 192 kbps AAC file, however.
When your audio files were uncompressed for burning to audio CD they naturally became the same size because there no longer was any compression.
If your objective is to have audio CDs that sound best on high-end equipment then you should continue buying audio CDs rather than purchasing on-line music. That way there is no loss in audio quality from compression. I'm not aware of a source that is selling lossless on-line music downloads.

  • How do I find all iTunes Plus content?

I've tried searching for individual artists and songs, but I haven't found any music in iTunes Plus format that I would like to purchase.
Is there a way to list all Plus content available in the iTunes store so I can browse through it all?

If you have iTunes Plus turned on in your preferences, you can click on the link in the right column when you're in the iTunes store. It will show you things that are available in iTunes Plus. If you've searched the store for a specific item and it doesn't show up as an iTunes Plus offering then that means it's not available in the Plus format. If something is available it will show up as an iTunes Plus offering.
When iTunes Plus is enabled that's the only offering you'll see for available albums/songs--you will not see the regular version of the item. I hope this makes sense.
