Itunes 8.1.1 Not Opening

Recently my Itunes stopped working. I have had 8.1.1 since it has been released and have had no problems. I recently installed a security update for Mac OSX (I'm running 10.4.11) and since then my Itunes has stopped working correctly. When I try to open the program it says "Itunes quit unexpectedly...." and I have the Close/Try Again/Report options. When I click "Try Again" the program opens and works fine but it puts Itunes into default mode, and once I close it I have to do it all again the next time. I have tried reinstalling 8.1.1 as well as deleting all prefs and plugins but nothing works. Thanks for any help.

All this happened since update to OS X 10.5.7.
Still no solutions here, but I discovered it crashed on start-up when it tried to submit info to Genius...
So after relaunching and reseting the app (just hit relaunch a couple of times after it crashes and you get option to reset it too), I managed to get it to stay open by canceling Genius update.
Then to test theory I manually updated Genius and it came back with this message:
"Genius results can't be updated right now. An unknown error occured (4010). Please try again later."
But at least it stayed open!

I tried hard reset on my iPhone. I tried restarting laptop and iPhone. I tried a different laptop. I tried removing driver and reinstalling from Device Manager but did not find a driver other than "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" under "Universal Serial Bus controllers" which I heard shouldn't be uninstalled.

Are you seeing your music listed in the iPod screen, or in Win explorer as in your earlier post?
I can see all the songs in my Edrive>al's Ipod> Ipod Control> Music folder.
A corrupted iPod database, will report zero music used, and have your music size reported as others, so you wont see the music in the iPod screen. Sorry, I thought there was some hope for you with iPodAccess, in recovery of the corrupted iPod database with your ratings.
You can try to borrow and  use the Mac Disk Utility ->First Aid ->Repair.
Of course, if your iPod Hardisk is in a bad state, from the Disk Diagnostic report, then all my suggestion are futile.

    Many thanks.
That suggests that another application has stashed old QuickTime componentry in your system files.
So just in case we'll go looking for older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view settings.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
    Click OK.
Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
If you have a 32-bit version of Windows, open the "System32" folder.
If you have a 64-bit version of Windows, open the "SysWOW64" folder.
What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

Ever since I got the iTunes upgrade, iPhoto does not open and get pictures from my iPhone.  How do I fix this?  Thanks.

You can stop new photos being automatically added to Photostream in iPhoto from iPhoto preferences > Photostream.

Please help me i can't do anything without itune

For "Could not open key/write value" errors when reinstalling try b noir's user tip:
    "Could not open key: UNKNOWN\Components\[LongStringOfLettersAndNumbers]\
[LongStringOfLettersAndNumbers]" error messages when installing iTunes for Windows.
The technique can be applied to the branch of the registry mentioned in the error message.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

iTunes 11.1 will not open after downloading; iTunes64.msi is "missing". I can't uninstall the present iTunes version (11.0.5.5). Any ideas? Please?

This is what I did to fix it.  I am running Win7 so I don't know if it will work on Win 8 or not.
    1-Uninstalled QuickTime
    2-Uninstalled Apple Mobile Device Manager
    3-Uninstalled Apple Software Update Manager
    4-Uninstalled iTunes
    5-Uninstalled iCloud
6-Uninstalled any left over Apple software
    7-Restarted Computer
    8-Installed iTunes
    9-Restarted Computer
I did not install iCloud.  I was able to authorize my PC and Sync did work.

  • Error message when updating Itunes...can not open Itunes program

I am recieving error message when updating Itunes for my computer.  The error message reads "MSVCR80.dll is missing and the other error message reads Error 7  (Windows error 126)"  I can not open my Itunes.  I have reloaded the Itunes onto my computer but still have the same error messages.  Please help.

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

  • I bought an mp3 download of a cd online (not in iTunes) and it will not open in itunes.

I tried everything. Importing the songs through file, add to library, which usually works. I tried double clicking it and clicking "open with itunes". I even tried dragging each song individually and dropping into itunes but nothing will work! Please help!
Also, the files are completely fine. They open in Quicktime and play just fine. They just will not open in itunes.

Have you tried going to menu > file > option+create new version > create AAC and select tracks from your disc. You track should be converted as they are added to library.
You will need to change import preference to AAC if you have have them set as mp3.

  • Help please, my iTunes store app is not opening expet at morning , and afternoon I can't access it neither on my iPad nor on my pc

Well I have bought my iPad two weeks ago and my iTunes  used to open on my pc and iPad,  but in the last four days it never opens except at morning when I wake up, what's wrong, please help.

If a reset doesn't work, try and force iPad into Recovery Mode:
    1. Turn off iPad. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, slide to turn off.
    2. Connect USB cable to computer
    3. Press and hold the Home button down and connect the docking end of cable to iPad
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect To iTune" screen
    5. Release the Home button
    6. Open iTune (make sure you have the newest version of iTune)
    7. You should see "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode"
    8. Use iTune to restore iPad
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad

  • ITunes 7.1 will not open! Not even an Error message!?!?!?

Hey, this problem is getting REALLY frustrating. I've done absolutley everything that i can think of, even some of the things that you guys have thought of on other posts, but nothing. Every time I click on the iTunes links it looks like its thinking, i get the hour glass etc, and then it just stops doing anything. iTunes does not open I do not get an error message of any kind and I would really like to use iTunes soon. I've tried repairing the installation I've tried completely removing iTunes and Quicktime and then reinstalling and still it does the same thing, it hasn't worked since I installed iTunes 7.1 . Whats going on here, can someome please help me out?
    Thank You,
    Tyler

Such a pesky problem that is! Anyway, start with looking over this: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
I would look to see if Quicktime opens and works before you do anything because iTunes will not work without Quicktime. Quicktime may be broken. If so, you can download the Quicktime stand alone player.
I would use the Windows Clean Up Installer Utility to remove all references of iTunes and Quicktime on your PC. You can read about it and install it from here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
I would also run a full spyware scan because certain versions of malware has been known to cause this issue that you have. If you don't have such a program, I would go get AVG Free anti-spyware. It's free and catches that spyware program and removes it.
Then I would try the install again, but save it to your hard drive and install it from there instead of running it over the net. Sometimes turning OFF your antivirus and spyware programs first helps. Sometimes they like to silently interfere with the successful download and install of iTunes believing its some sort of suspicious material. Keep me posted on your progress.

  • Upgraded to Yosemite It's a nightmare!!  Itunes and Safari will not open Iphoto does not exist and the list goes on!!

I've spent all day trying to fix all the problems I'm encountered after updating to Yosemite on my MacBook Pro today.  It's been a waste of a day.  Nothing I have researched has helped.  I wish I never updated.  What is ironic that most of the things that do not work or Apple i products.  I don't understand cloud but have a feeling this is the cause of most of the problems.
After update my computer prompted me to say cannot connect to Icloud Drive (What I don't understand I cloud and didn't know I had an Icloud drive).
Itunes will not open at all and it does not even try to open(I've downloaded it again to no avail).
Iphoto has a Circle slash mark through it so it's not even avaliable.
Safari will not open just like Itunes.
Icloud in preferences just keeps spinning like it's looking for Icloud drive. (Even though I don't use this I feel it is the problem)
So I have no access to my music, my photos  cannot get on the internet with Safari Browser.
I'm afraid of what else probably doesn't work but I've been so consumed with the top three I haven't got to really explore the rest of all the apps.
My main concern at the moment are my pictures and my music.
Please Help, Thank you so much!!

iPhoto is still in your Applications folder. Your iPhoto Library is still where it was.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion or Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list.  Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Now, download and install the OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 Combo Update.

  • Itunes or quicktime will not open

I just purchased ipod and I downloaded itunes. at first it worked correctly, then it stopped opening and quicktime will not open either. I have tried re-installing numerous times to no avail. All the error message says unknown error send or don't send to MS. I am starting to get frustrated over this. It has taken up so much time. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME????

Hi Dave. Many thanks for your response. I uninstalled iTunes and Quicktime and then reinstalled them and now I can open iTunes. I now have another problem. The music that is on my iPhone that was imported from my iTunes prior to resetting my Mac seems to be unavailable for me to play. It doesn't show up on my iPhone when it's not connected. But when I connect it to my Mac all the songs show up under the music tab of my iPhone but they are all light grey and when I click one an exclamation mark appears next to it. I've tried authorizing my account but that doesn't do anything.
If you have any idea what the problem could be I would really gratefull.

  • Itunes 6.0 will not open in windows

The new version of itunes will not open but in the windows task manager it shows that itunes is running. I want to know how to fix this problem, see if norton anti virus is causing the problem, or will apple release a new version of itunes that fixes this problem.

    hi Gregory!
I want to know how to fix this problem, see if norton anti virus is causing the problem,
are you running Norton Internet Security 2005? if so, that's been causing this to people on installs/upgrades since 4.8.
if it's just itunes processes being blocked, you can fix it using these techniques:
    b noir, "itunes wont open" #6, 02:11pm Oct 3, 2005 CDT
... but if that doesn't work, you're probably getting QT processes blocked too, and you should try "Lorraine":
    Lorraine M, "NIS/i-tunes problem rectified" #2, 01:51am Oct 17, 2005 CDT
    keep us posted.
