ITunes 8.1.1 upgrade won't install

Okay I just downloaded iTunes 8.1.1 on my Windows PC and it won't install the update.
Here's what happens I go through the steps of installing the update -- the welcome screen provides info on what iTunes helps you do (work with iPod, iPhone, Apple TV etc and burning and importing audio CDs, plus buying songs from iTunes and video) then asks you to press next, next screen asks if you accept license agreement, select yes and click next. Next screen asks what language you want iTunes installed in (English US) and what location for me its C/Program Files/iTunes
Then press next and on the next screen it will install -- next screen shows up and then jumps directly to the iTunes has installed screen without doing so.
"Says iTunes Installer Completed"
"The installer encounted errors before iTunes could be configured.
Your system has not been modified. To retry these operations at a later time please return to the installer again. Click Finish to exit installer."
I have tried using both Apple Software Update which tells me iTunes + QuickTime could not be verified when the installation error occurs and the manual installation by downloading the file and launching it. Any ideas on
what's causing this?

Got it... It was the apple updater. Once I used the Windows Installer tool, everything installed properly and I'm back...
Cheers!

  • 5.0.4 Upgrade won't install

I have a Power Mac G5, with a 2 GKz PowerPC 970 CPU with plenty of space on the hard drive (over 80 GB). I have Final Cut 5.0.1 from Final Cut Studio, and I am trying to upgrade to 5.0.4. I downloaded the upgrade, but when I ran it, it said it could not install the upgrade on my computer. In the system profile, the application is listed as "Final Cut Pro HD" 5.0.1. Is that why the upgrade won't install?
I believe I originally upgraded to Final Cut Pro Studio from Final Cut Pro HD.
    Many thank for any thoughts.

I imagine the Serial Number I entered was valid, because the website had to accept it in order to let me download the upgrade in the first place.
Ugg. I was hoping to avoid reinstalling. I just went through that with the hinky Quicktime 7.0.4 upgrade that scambled my operating system. I had to go back and reinstall that, which of course, forced me to reinstall all of Final Cut Studio.
But thanks for the suggestion. Any others that don't involve reinstalling 2 versions of Final Cut (hope, hope)?

  • My iTunes downloads okay but just won't install. Keeps telling me program is missing - what do I do? I need to link up my iPhone 4S

My question is this - why won't iTunes install on my PC?
Never had trouble in the past but now I have an iPhone it just won't install
    Can someone help me please?
    Thanks in advance

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

  • ITunes 10.4 unexpected error - won't install into OS X 10.7

Tried to update after installing Lion. No deal.

Installed OS X 10.7 Lion this morning. After a successful installation I ran Software Update. Three items were available including iTunes and iWork. I tried to install all at once as usual and the process failed. Installing each one by one was sucecssful with the exception of iTunes 10.4.
I've tried everything, including repairing permissions, uninstalling iTunes (which Lion will not allow me to do), downloading and installing iTunes directly and so on. No help. This is ridiculous.
    I am running a mid-2010 iMac 3.2 Ghz i3.

What's the precise text of the message you're getting with that, please, TK? (There's a few different error messages I can think of that you might be getting.)

  • FCE HD 3.5 upgrade won't install...

    Hello,
I own FCE HD for more than a year. Since a few months I run it on my new iMacTel.
I just bought the upgrade of FCE HD 3.5 today.
When lauching the installer, the serial numbre is asked.
I look in and on the box I received with the upgrade and didn't find any.
So, I tried with the serial number of my "old" FCE HD.
Both won't work and the software won't be installed!!!!
I keep receiving a message saying that the serial number is incorrect!
    I am doing something wrog?
Both softwares (FCE HD & the upgrade) are original versions (not a copy).
I bought FCE HD in France & the upgrade for FCE HD3,5 in Belgium.
    Is there a link?
    Thank you for your help.
    Jean-Pascal.

If the serial number is not included in the package with the upgrade you should contact Apple or your reseller.

  • ITunes 8.0.2.20 Won't Install

I had iTunes running without problems. Was notified there was an update (8.0.2.20). Took it, it installed, after that, was never able to run iTunes again. I got an error message (can't remember message number now) that a component was missing. Tried installing several times again. The software always wanted to repair. Successfully completed installation. Same error message over and over. Removed qtime and itunes, tried to install 8.0.2.20 again, and it fails almost immediately with NO error message. The error says:
The installer encountered problems before iTunes could be configured.
Your system has not been modified. To retry these operations at a later time, please run the installer again.
    Click Finish to exit installer.
    Finish button is only active.
I removed all entried I could find in the registry to Apple, iPod and QuickTime, and tried again... same thing.
Downloaded iTunes setup several times to make sure...
Same thing. Luckily, my iPod id still fine but I have NO software to do anything to it.
All other software is running perfectly.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Got it... It was the apple updater. Once I used the Windows Installer tool, everything installed properly and I'm back...
    Cheers!

  • Itunes/Bonjour/Apple Mobile Device won't Install even though I'm the Administrator

Since late February I have been unable to reinstall ITunes.  It all started when I tried to update it, and it wouldn't work.  Ultimately I uninstalled ITunes and tried to reinstall it, but I kept getting this message that the Apple Mobile Device could not be installed(?), and that I have to verify that I have sufficient privileges to install.
    Since then I have:
    Ran as the administrator
Made sure that 'everybody', 'my user' and the 'administrator' (pretty much just me) have full access
Turned the User Account Control off
Cleaned up the registry using CCleaner
Used Command Prompt to check the C drive?
Used the SubInACL tool to repair any file and registry permissions (from here)
Nothing worked.  I also went to the ITunes music folder, made myself the administrator, and it still wouldn't work.  Recently I uninstalled Quicktime, Bonjour, and the Apple Mobile Device, Apple Software Update, Apple Application Support....everything Apple.  Still couldn't install Itunes.  In fact, now I can't install Bonjour or AMD.
When I tried to install Bonjour, I got the message:
"Service 'Bonjour Service' (Bonjour Service) could not be installed.  Verify you have sufficient privileges to install system services.".  If I hit 'ignore', then it'll just do the same thing except replace 'Bonjour' with 'Apple Mobile Device'.
    I'm at a lost.
    I have a Hewlett-Packard laptop
    HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC.
    64-bit operating system.
    Windows 7 Home Premium
    Version 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
    Processor:  AMD A4-3305M APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics, 1900 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 2 Locations
Installed physical memory (RAM) = 6 GB
Total physical memory = 5.48 GB
Available physical memory = 1.98 GB
Total virtual memory = 11 GB
Available virtual memory = 7.39 GB
    BIOS Version/Date = Hewlett-Packard F.49, 12/25/2012
    SMBIOS Version = 2.7
Hopefully, that's enough info.  Any help will greatly be appreciated.

    Hey mrsslick,
This section contains information that might help your situation if you're using Windows XP:
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.
Quit the following programs if they're running:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Choose Start > Control Panel.
In Control Panel, open "Add or Remove Programs."
Select iTunes from the list of currently installed programs and click Remove.
When asked if you would like to remove iTunes, select Yes.
After the uninstallation is complete, don't restart your computer if you're prompted.
If other program entries were listed for iTunes in Add or Remove Programs, remove those as well by repeating steps 4-6.
Remove all instances of these applications by repeating steps 4-6:
    iPod Updater
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
    Restart your computer.
You should be able to remove Apple Mobile Device Support by following those steps above. The article you came from however is for Windows XP - if you're using Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8, follow the directions in here:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
The steps in "Remove iTunes and related components from the Control Panel" and "To remove these components, follow these steps" are the most pertinent.
Let us know if following that article helped at all.

    Delgadoh

  • Itunes 7.0 downloaded but won't install

I was able to download itunes 7.0 but not able to open it. My powerpoint program gives me a not valid powerpoint program message. Any suggestions?

I was able to download itunes 7.0 but not able to open it.
    a few questions before proceeding.
are you getting an error message? if so, what does it say? include error message numbers if you're getting any.
or are you getting no error messages whatsoever when you try to launch itunes?
if you're getting no error messages whatsoever, do you just see the wee hourglass for a few seconds, and then nothing? if so, do you also have Norton Internet Security 2005 installed on that PC?
or are you seeing a brief "flash" of the itunes license screen (and then nothing)? if so, do you also see similar behavior when you try to launch your QuickTime?
My powerpoint program gives me a not valid powerpoint program message
that message might give us a heads-up on what might be happening with your itunes. could you let us know the precise text of the message? (include error message numbers if you're getting any.)
sometimes it's easiest to send us a screenshot of the error message box. there's instructions on how to do that in this user tip:

  • Itunes 8 downloads ok but won't install (not updating)

    Hi everyone.
Got an ipod for xmas, downloaded itunes 8 for 1st time (not updating), downloads ok, but when opening install program, "open file - security warning" dialog box opens, i click on run, the "unidentified program wants access to your computer" dialog box opens, i click the allow button, i get the 'thinking' cursor for 1 second then nothing happens.
I'm running it as an adminstrator, i've tried running the program in xp service pack 2 mode, i've redownloaded it 3 times, same thing every time i try. not a 64bit machine, i get no errors, it just does nothing.
The file i download is 67,146kb so something is actually there, can anybody please help, this is frustrating and my new ipod is a paperweight.

Hi Polydorus - Happy New Year!!! Thanks for your time and reply.
Yes i have a 32bit version of windows vista (premium)
Yes i downloaded itunes from the apple site, saved it and when i try to run it i get the hourglass for 1 second then nothing.
Looked in the task manager and nothing is running.
Never had any problem installing anything else or anything windows related.
I have spybot (rescanning now) and my antivirus is Nod32 so no risk of anything there. I even tried installing in safe mode, but no luck.
I am running firefox, not I.E. but that shouldn't matter.
I realize this is where people with problems come to gripe, but there seems to me to be a LOT of problems associated with itunes?
Spybot found nothing, Nod32 is Hey?????
While typing this, i was downloading Quicktime from the link you sent to test if that works, the file I've downloaded was named itunes setup(2) shouldn't it be quicktime?????? Guess it automatically called it (2) cause i already got itunes setup in my download folderit's the exact same size as the itunes setup file i've been downloading??????
Now the apple website actually says thanks for downloading Quicktime 7 not a thing about itunes.
Click on the download now link on the site you sent me, http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ wants to download me the itunes file not quicktime??? Try it !!
Maybe the people at apple got on the grog a bit before Christmas???
NOW itunes is installed AND RUNNING !!!!!!!!!
    WHAT THE ..... ???????????
    This is really weird.
Will connect ipod and see if this actually works or is a mirage and repost results.
That might be a fix, download it from the quicktime download link???????????, or rename it with a (2) ????
    Regards MrBlob197 (stunned and confused)
