ITunes 8.1 problems with (2nd generation shuffle).

Since I installed the newest version of iTunes, I'm having several problems:
1. I cannot transfer the 400 files from my broken shuffle (or any shuffle) at all to a playlist that I can just drag into a new shuffle. This is not because the old shuffle is broken becuase it doesn't work with the new shuffle either. I used to be able to do that with older versions of itunes. It will be very annoying to re-add and rearrange 400 songs to my new shuffle.
2. But wait! I can't arrange songs in the contents window anyway! I can arrange the songs in the contents window but it doesn't tell the shuffle to play them in that order, even if it's not on shuffle mode. The shuffle will play them in the order that I'd dragged into the shuffle.
3. I cannot play the files directly from the shuffle contents window; I have to search for them in the music library window. That's very inconvenient if I want to check the version of a song that's on the shuffle. I used to be able to do this. Why not now?
3. Deleting files from the library doesn't delete them from the shuffle; i have to do that manually from the contents window.
Is anyone else having the same problems?

Switching off "iTunes DJ" in the general preferences worked for me.
Cheers,
Henk

  • Podcast sync problem with 2nd generation shuffle, itunes 8.2

This is a brand-new problem. I have upgraded to iTunes 8.2. Suddenly my 2nd generation iPod shuffle can sync my own songs from my iTunes library but not podcasts. I have used this iPod exclusively for podcasts, so now I am stumped and frustrated. Any ideas?

I have had my ipod shuffle for a few months now and I was able to load my podcasts to it, even before I switched to itunes 8.2. However, since I upgraded to this new version I have been having all kinds of problems. Sometimes I get a "sync failed" message. Other times, it just takes forever to sync or the whole program freezes. I have not found a permanent solution, what seems to work (sometimes) is to let the program try to sync, usually after it fails to do so (whether it tells you or not makes no difference) the image of the shuffle will appear on your desktop, then the podcast seems to sync fine, but after that the image disappears from the desktop and you will have to go through a series of "failures" to bring it back and, hopefully, sync another podcasts. It takes forever, and I am not sure why, it was working fine until a a couple of weeks ago and all of the sudden it started acting up. I am very frustrated because I also use this ipod exclusively for podcasts and now it is very aggravating just to load them up.

  • Synching problem with 2nd gen Shuffle

I've had a 2nd gen iPod Shuffle for several years and have always had it work well. But recently it has trouble synching when I plug it in. Whether using Autofill or synching manually, it will only synch from 1 to 4 or 5 songs at a time, and then stops, saying the synching operation is complete. Sometimes it will stop synching before the first song is complete. It does this over and over again with varying results. The only consistency is it never completes synching the entire playlist. I've gone through the reset procedure many times, but it still does this. I've double-checked all the other settings and everything should be set to go.
For reference, I have a 2GHz Intel Core Duo iMac with 2GB RAM and I'm running Snow Leopard and iTunes 10.2.1.

Yes to the "restore" question. I mistakenly referred to "resetting" instead. So I've already tried that, many times.
I'll take a look at a different port or cable, and if needed, I'll reinstall iTunes, but I don't expect it will make a difference - this exact setup used to work.
One other bit of background - Autofill works fine when I let the computer synch from my general "Music" library, that is, when it's working from its post-restore defaults. The failure happens when I want to put something else on the iPod, and it happens whether I use Autofill, or drag a whole playlist to the iPod, or drag several songs at a time to it.
In fact, there are only two times it works correctly, 100% of the time - when it Autofills from my "Music" library right after restoring, and when I drag a single song at a time to the iPod.

  • My 2nd generation shuffle will not sync with itunes. Why?

I have done everything I can think of. I have restarted my mac several times, restarted Itunes and my 2nd generation shuffle will not show up in my iTunes. I just updated my iTunes and Mac to the latest version. Any help? Why wont my itunes connect to my ipod shuffle??

When iTunes is NOT running, does the shuffle show up on the Desktop, or appear in Disk Utility (when you run it)? Or, if you run System Profiler
Apple Menu -> About This Mac -> More Info -> System Report (if running Lion)
does the shuffle appear as a device under Hardware/USB?
If it is being recognized by the Mac in some way, you may be able to get it working again, using the iPod Reset Utility
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1238
This utility is for 1st and 2nd gen iPod shuffles only, as a "lower level" reset when you can't do a regular Restore in iTunes.
If the Mac is not seeing the shuffle at all, there is probably a problem with the USB connection, probably the USB cable/dock or the connection point on the shuffle (headphone jack) becoming faulty.  To rule out the USB port in the Mac, be sure to try different ports.  If you have been using a USB hub (or the spare keyboard port), be sure to try a direct port on the Mac.  And be sure to try it with ALL other USB devices (except standard mouse and keyboard) disconnected, in case there is some USB device conflict happening.

  • 2nd Generation Shuffle is not recognized by iTunes or My Computer

I bought a 2nd generation Shuffle for my sister in August. It was washed once in November or September she cant remember. It has worked perfectly fine. The only problem is that when we plug it into my mom's desktop it says the device is not recognized. I have updated to iTunes 7 or whatever the latest is, I have done the 5 R's that Apple Recommends. I even downloaded and tried the Reset Utility sill nothing. But what I don't understand is I can plug it into my laptop and it works perfectly fine. If anyone can help I would appreciate it cause im going to school soon and she wont be able to user her iPod and I wanted to get info before I submitted a service request. Thanks
      Windows XP

If you bought it in August, it must be a 1st Gen shuffle...2nd Gen wasn't available for purchase (in stores) until November.
Are you plugging it directly into a USB port in the back of your mom's computer?

  • I have a 2nd generation shuffle and want to use it for my grandson.  On connecting to iTunes it wants to download everything I have on iTunes automatically and I do not know how to get it to manual upload

I have a 2nd generation shuffle and want to use it for my grandson.  On connecting to my PC it asks the question ". do you want to delete everything on the shuffle and replace with that on your iTunes".  I do not want to do this I want to start again and manually add items.  How do I get it to do this please

A 2G Shuffle can only be synced with one iTunes library at a time. So if you are trying to connect and use the Shuffle with a new computer/iTunes library, you'll need tor restore it before you can begin syncing or manualy adding content to it from the new library.
So go ahead and restore the iPod and then configure it for manual management.  See this article for more details on configuring the shuffle for manual management.

  • My 2nd generation shuffle not appearing in itunes.  What can I do?

my 2nd generation shuffle not appearing in itunes.  What can I do?

If you have not done so already, first try using a different USB port that is directly on the computer (not a hub).
If that does not help, I would shut down (completely power off) your computer.  Disconnect the shuffle and do this reset procedure
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1655
Start up your computer.  Run iTunes.  Try connecting the shuffle again.

  • Can I use a USB for 2nd generation shuffle with a 3rd generation shuffle

Can I use a USB for 2nd generation shuffle with a 3rd generation shuffle?
Seems to be a good fit, but my computer doesn't seem to recognise it.

By "3rd gen charger" are you referring to the USB cable with the
4 ring audio connector on the other end?
If so, the answer is again NO...

  • 2ND GENERATION SHUFFLE RESET

I need to reset my 2nd generation shuffle according to itunes, but it appears the reset utility does not support windows 7 64 bit.  HELP???

As you already aware the reset utility only works with Windows 2000 and XP.  So if you need to use this utility, you'll need to find or use a PC running either of these operating systems.
Once you have, you can reconnect it to your Vista machine as norma.
I also want to know if the ipod shuffle has an internal battery?
Yes it does as all iPod models (and most handheld electronics) do.
In my case could it be completely dead due to non-usage for a very long time? I have noticed that I left it ON for all those months that I was not using it. Could it be that the battery got so drained that it reached a point of "no-return"?
Yes that is definitely a possibility as the lithium ion batteries in iPods need constant activity to maintain any sort of charge.

  • 2nd Generation Shuffle crashes

I have a 1st generation Shuffle that works super. My Wife purchased a 2nd generation Shuffle and returned it under warranty because it would lock up in the middle of a song and would not restart. We tried restoring, reloading the music, everything. Apple replaced it, and we have the same problem with the new one. It will play 4 or 5 songs, then lock up after playing maybe 30 seconds of the next song. If you turn the Shuffle off, unplug the headset, plug the headset back in, and turn it on, it will play again. It will play maybe 7 or 8 songs and then lock up in the middle of another song. I have restored the Shuffle with no music, reloaded all of the music again, set the settings so it will convert all music to 128K bitrate, but it still does the same thing, crashes.

Since no one responded, I called Apple, who couldn't resolve the problem other than to ship a second replacement shuffle. The new one works fine after dealing with two previous duds.

  • Do you know of any kids games apps compatible with 2nd generation iPod?

Do you know of any kids games apps compatible with 2nd generation iPod? wanted to put some kids games on but they all say they are not supported by iOS 4.2.1. which is the latest ios it can be updated to. I get the message This app requires openGL ES 2.0 graphics capability. Can you tell me if there are any games I could download for him please?
If there aren't can you tell me if an ipod touch 3rd generation would be able to get alot of the current games like the lego ones and angry birds or which generation I would have to go to.
    Many Thanks

    - These sites allow you to filter searchs for those apps compatible with 4.2.1
iOSSearch - search the iTunes store for compatible apps.
Apple Club - filter apps by iOS version.
    - However, some apps currently in th app require a higer iOS version. But, as I posint out in my previous reply, Apple allows yo to downlod the last compatilbe version
App Store: Downloading Older Versions of Apps on iOS - Apple Club
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.
I know of no list/seach method to find those apps

  • Years ago I purchased a Creative Labs Inc. Travelsound i50 speaker for a 2nd generation shuffle.  I lost that shuffle, so I purchased the latest Shuffle, which obviously does not fit this speaker.  Is there another similar speaker device I can purchase?

I purchased a Creative Labs Travelsound i50 speaker through Apple some years ago for my 2nd generation Shuffle.  I purchased a new Shuffle, and obviously this style does not fit the speaker.  Is there another speaker that can be purchased to fit my new device?

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.
