ITunes 8.1 Stuttering

Gag. Ever since I updated iTunes my playback has been marred by skipping. Not jumping tracks mind you, just horribly stuttered playback. The computer seems to be hustling harder since the upgrade as well. I have fast everything and it's driving me crazy. Any ideas what the problem could be, or how can I switch back to the good old days of iTunes 7?
Thanks.

  • ITunes skips and stutters

Itunes skips and stutters, and the program locks up and won't close, requiring me to use the task manager to stop the "program that is not responding". I have deleted itunes and then downloaded it again, but I have the same problem. Everthing else works fine and both Norton and Advanced SystemCare6 indicate there are no viruses or anything. Has anyone been able to correct this problem? Thanks! I don't want to go back to Windows Media Player!!! (Note: Version 11.1.0.126)

Yes, it's just untenable. I hate to leave iTunes behind, but I can't deal with this situation. Are you going to scrap iTunes and go back to WMP, or do you have a better program in mind?

  • ITunes radio is stuttering

iTunes radio is stuttering while playing. Not every song but many. Is occurring after updating software also.
    HELP.

I am having the same stuttering radio playback, from the 12.1.2 upgrade, on my iMac running Yosemite and my MacBook Pro running Mavericks with iTunes 12.1.0. Only when selecting iTunes' Featured Radio Stations does the stuttering occur. Plays and stops every couple seconds. If I select Internet Radio, those stations seem to play without the stutter.
I had not played iTunes music for a number of months. Prior use was with earlier versions of iTunes that did not have the Featured Radio stations. Never had a problem with those version, but that was using Internet Radio stations in iTunes. Pandora and Spotlight play their songs without any stutter.
So, I guess, until Apple engineers provide a solution, I will play iTunes Internet Radio stations and Pandora and Spotlight. Evidently, Apple customer service does not care if its customer don't pay for the extra Featured Radio Station options, nor purchase featured songs, since we cannot listen to the songs without them being constantly interrupted by pauses.
If anyone finds a solution, please post.

  • ITunes 7.01 Stuttering on MBP

    Good morning,
I know there are a million issues with iTunes 7, but I haven't seen too much about stuttering on the mac side.
I upgraded to 7 and then 7.01 on my MBPro, and am having a terrible stuttering problem. It tends to be when mail is checking and downloading new mail and/or any other network activity. It certainly wasn't this way before. I don't have much open, and I have 2g of ram. I am connected to an external monitor (have tried my 17" and my 30" and it does it on both.)
Any ideas on this, or is this just a current "feature"?
    Thanks.
    sqe

I concur: iTunes 7, while nice and fancy, performs much worse than iTunes 6 on my 15" Powerbook G4. (1.67 Ghz, 80Gig HDD, 1 Gig RAM, 10.4.8) I don't usually have stuttering issues, but instead get the "Spinning beachball of death" every few minutes. Looking at activitiy monitor, this occurs most often when iTunes fires up the hard drive.
I'm a person who tends to skip to different parts of songs (that is, makes very good use of the scrubber bar!), and usually skip around in playlists, depending on my mood. I realize this doesn't help, but this is still unacceptable. When I skip songs, it plays fine for 30 seconds or so, then goes into freeze mode for around 5 seconds (although it sometimes takes >20) while it accesses the drive. Should I change songs again, the freeze is back!
This gets VERY irritating when attempting to A. Find a song lost in the library. B. Add album art manually - it's ALWAYS SPINNING! Argh!
In iTunes 6, these types of performance issues rarely occured - at least I never noticed one! What's suprising is that my Powerbook seems far more sluggish than our 7-year-old PowerMac G4 on iTunes! Wow. Considering the G4 barely meets Tiger's requirements and audio playback takes 30% of CPU time, this is very odd. To be fair, the Powerbook's drive is a 5400 RPM, while the G4 has 2-7200 RPM drives in it (still on original ATA 66 bus).
So, does anyone have any fix, or optimization ideas?
I'm about to post my own thread - specifically for that question.

  • New MAC PRO: itunes audio playback-stuttering, glitching, skipping

I have a brand new mac pro 3.2ghz quad, with 8gb ram (bought a couple weeks ago). All seems fine with the exception of brief skips, glitches and stutters with audio playback in itunes. I tried updating to itunes 11 and this did not resolve the problem. My music files play fine on my girlfriends macbook pro (purchased over a year ago), and never had any problems on my old machine (imac 24inch aluminum). I went to apple with the problem and after multiple system recoveries they determined that the computer was faulty and sent me a replacement. I just received the replacement and tested out some downloaded music from the itunes store and the same problem happened. Am I just unlucky to get two computers with this issue? Is it the Mac Pros? Has anyone had this issue with mac based machines, specifically the mac pros? I saw another thread on the issue but seemed to be primarily windows users running itunes. The skipping happens as frequent as every 20-30 seconds to every few minutes, but it is definitely enough to notice
    Thanks.
    Baffled,
    Greg

    Hi Greg.
I seem to have discovered this problem this weekend. I listen to a lot of music from my apple devices and have done for years. What I have noticed this weekend is that both my Macbook 2008 and iMac late 2010 both suffer with a brief stutter every minute or so making the enjoyment of listening to music a little annoying. Both are running Mountain Lion 10.8.2. My iMac is running the 2.93 GHz intel i7 processor with 8GB ram. Playing music should be a doddle!
From my point of view both Macs are running independently to external speakers. The music I am running on those 2 devices has been ripped on both devices. e.g. Macbook has ripped and plays Apple Lossless format and my iMac has ripped and plays songs in 320kbps. My guess is its a bug with the new iTunes 11 or Mountain Lion although I have been using 11 since its release.
While I'm not able to supply a fix I think its safe to say its not your new Mac Pro. One other thing to note is that I have been running up until this weekend a 7 or 8 year old Mac Mini as a media device in my kitchen playing Apple Lossless format with no issues at all. This device however is running Snow Leopard with all updates applied. The Macbook is now playing the Lossless music with stutters that was ripped on the Mac Mini that was playing OK.
So is the problem Mountain Lion?
    Take care
    Paul

  • 10.6.2 Front Row and iTunes video still stutters

I thought this was going to be fixed. What's really odd is Quicktime X no longer stutters.....
Was the FR stuttering "fixed" for anyone?

    Further Clarification
Front Row will not play my HD content. Plays the .mp4 content fine, in fact plays it better over my wireless network than iTunes does over wireless but iTunes will not play .mp4 content now (10.6.2) without stutter even when loaded on the MAC HDD.
I have not used Front Row before because I always used iTunes with iPod Touch as the remote so I don't know if this has always been a limitation with Front Row. Still prefer the iTunes method but the bulk of my content is .mp4 format.
I'll probably go back to 10.5 so don't upgrade to Snow Leopard if you have mixed iTunes movie/TV content.

  • ITunes movies--video stutters, then sound cuts out

When I play a video file in iTunes, it starts out just fine, but within a few minutes, the video stutters and the audio cuts out completely.  The video will continue playing (although it will continue to stutter a bit) but the audio never comes back.  Also, oddly, the search box has a white rectangle in it that covers the blue border of the box.  It's a little hard to describe.  I've tried a ton of things to try to fix the problem, and nothing's worked yet.  It happens unfailingly, and I've tried updating drivers, re-installing Quicktime, re-installing iTunes (incidentally, the problem has persisted throughout several iTunes and Windows updates), and a lot more that I can't even remember.  I'm on a PC running Windows 8.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

This solution was posted by tmeader on iLounge forums:
    You need QT Pro:
    1) Open up the Video file in Quicktime Pro
    2) Select File->Export
    3) Select "Movie to MPEG-4" beside "Export:", then click the OPtions button
    4) Select "Video" and make sure that the "Video Format" is set to "Pass through"
    5) Do the same for "Audio", then hit OK
    6) Save the file
Or you can downgrade the firmware from 1.1 to 1.0:

Yu can get the previous updater at Apple support.

  • ITunes music keeps stuttering.

So, I was listening to music about 30 minutes ago and it was playing back fine. I tried downloading a screen recording program, but after it was finished I tried playing back my music and it kept stuttering (pausing for about half a second) and then continue playing. It would do this about every 6 seconds and I'm wondering maybe if it had anything to do with the download. I use iTunes quite frequently, so help would be appreciated as soon as possible

If you've recently installed the 64-bit version of iTunes 12.1, there is an alternative downloader for 64-bit editions of Windows here:
iTunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)
that seems to address the playback issues that some users have been reporting with the full 64-bit version (the alternative installer here is the same architecture as most previous "64-bit" versions of iTunes, i.e., a 32-bit application with a 64-bit installer).  The "for older video cards" label appears to be something of a misnomer as some people have reported that this corrects problems found on current / high-spec systems.
Some users have reported that after installing this alternative version it is necessary to (re)select the Windows Audio Session option in Edit > Preferences > Playback ("Play audio using:" dropdown) to restore correct playback.

  • ITunes 7 skipping/stuttering at song's begining

So, iTunes 7 installed, gapless playback thing run. Now, all my songs stutter during the first 5-10 seconds of playback (fine thereafter).
How is this fixed? Is there a way to preserve the gapless playback PLUS non stuttering? I'm hungry and frustrated with Apple.

I had the same problem and have found tht if you uncheck the 'crossfade playback' in playback of preferences then it removes the poblem. However, it does mean that you loose the crossfade capability which I like. I look forward to the next version of Itunes fixing this soon!

  • Poor iTunes Playback Quality (Stuttering/Scratching)

    Hi everyone,
I've been using iTunes for a long time (a couple years I think), and I just started having this problem. Basically, sometimes (not always) the quality of the sound of the songs that I am listening to will suddenly become horrible. It'll stutter and have weird, static-like noises in the background, and although the song will be discernible, it's not really a lot of fun to listen to.
The songs I've been listening to lately that have had this problem all used to work properly (a couple days ago), but then all of a sudden yesterday this started happening. I think that all of the songs on my computer are susceptible, and I have had problems with listening to music in other, non-Apple products that I have tried briefly, too (e.g., WinAMP.) And of course, even if it was just iTunes, I prefer it over other music programs , so I would hate to have to switch either way.
I notice one thing that makes the problem much worse is if I open Windows Media player.
I also have one other idea about what could have caused it...I program in C++ somewhat often (I'm a computer science major in college), and I had one program that I was working on that had a lot of null pointer errors and other such problems relating to pointers...could it be that I have somehow messed up (or failed to deallocate) some of the memory of my computer and that it doesn't have the resources to run iTunes? (A lot of other things on my computer have seemed to be running more slowly...could it be a virus? I have anti-virus software....)
Oh, also, I did read through all the articles I could find on this subject in the help database. I upgraded to the latest version of iTunes and QuickTime, and changed the QuickTime settings to waveOut only. I also restarted my computer a few times since the problem started, ran SpyBot Search and Destroy, and tried to update my drivers (although I couldn't figure out how to do that, the instructions provided on the site didn't seem to work.)
Anyway, I'm stumped. Any help anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

Ok, thanks for the suggestion...I actually read what you wrote to another poster and started running an ewido scan about half an hour ago, haha. It's still running actually...about 2/3 of the way done.
And yes I've seen that article, and I tried everything there except for the drivers stuff.
So far it has found about 273 things on my computer, which is interesting because I had just run SpyBot. I guess ewido covers some territory that SpyBot does not eh? Thanks for the tip, I'll have to add ewido to my arsenal of virus-fighting software .
Thanks for all the help, I'll post again after the scan is finished if I have more problems.

  • My macbook pro runs slow, iTunes videos keep stuttering. Nothing has worked to solve this issue. Macbook Pro 13-inch mid 2012 2.5GHz i5 with 8GB RAM upgrade.

    Hello everyone.
I have been having this issue for a few months now and nothing works to resolve it. The biggest issue is that iTunes videos constantly stutter ever few seconds, the audio portion of the video is not effected. The most I have open at once is Safari, Skype, and iTunes, and possibly Open Office. Videos will even stutter with nothing else open other than iTunes. At times it sounds like the computer is running something in the background from hard drive noise.
I even upgraded the RAM to 8GB and it still has this problem! Nothing looks wrong in Activity Monitor other than occasionally the memory usage spikes up to 6GB, but even then the memory pressure graph is green. I dont understand how these non-intensive programs can use that much. The hard drive is barely 1/3 full.
Please help with a solution as nothing has worked so far. Thanks!

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this test is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The "Guest User" login created by "Find My Mac" is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.

  • ITunes skips and stutters while working.

iTunes has begun sounding terrible when I'm doing other work that is processor intensive.  Whether streaming or playing files, while I'm editing images in Adobe Lightroom.  OS 10.7.2 iTunes 10.5.  Its nearly unlistenable.

Update.  No skipping via my two sets of airtunes speakers plugged into airport express.  Only skipping on my USB Soundsticks plugged directly into my iMac.
    Thanks!

  • Playback of songs on iTunes "skips" or "stutters"....Help!

When I'm playing my iTunes, in between songs more often than not, the beginning of the next song will skip or stutter for some time, maybe up to five seconds or so.
What is the cause of this? And how can I fix it?
    Thanks in advance...
I have a Dell Dimension 4500 with Windows XP and the latest version of iTunes.

Did you ever find a solution to this? I'm having the same problem.

  • ITunes is stuttering after update

After I updated iTunes to 10.7 if i open a program or something while playing music in itunes, the audio stutters for a few seconds. How can i fix this?

I updated to 10.5.0.142 the day before yesterday when prompted but already had iTunes open, chose not to reboot my PC (as requested) but shut it down at the end of the day.  Yesterday when I did boot up the PC and try to go into iTunes it just kept crashing  - I got some sort of APPCRASH dialogue) before it could even open it!  I tried rebooting again but got no further.
Then I deleted iTunes out of my programs and tried a reinstall, but STILL it kept crashing.  So I then deleted it again and this time downloaded 10.4.1 from this link http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1427 (bottom of the page).  All is now rosy again   It did tell me that there is a newer version of iTunes as soon as i went in but obviously I ignored this and turned off the prompt I won't be upgrading for a few months or at least untill I hear that all is in working order.
Don't expect this sort of thing from Apple (and I hear that there are proplems with the latest iPhone OS upgrade).

  • ITunes stuttering when running a program.

    Hi there,
After upgrading to a new iMac with Lion, running into issues with iTunes that wasn't present before.  My older 21" iMac (4 GB RAM) ran Maxwell Render ( 3D modeling software) and iTunes with no performance issues.  My new beefed up 27" iMac (12GB RAM) cannot run both without iTunes skipping and stuttering every few seconds.  Any suggestions what might be happening and how to resolve this?

    Hi;
When you define and edit the mapping between the project management role function ID and the financial planning view, category, or group. You can also decide on whether the cost or revenue rate is to be considered for the financial information calculation.
    1. Execute report /RPM/PLAN_INT_PREP to create financial and capacity categories and groups for the bucket or the portfolio items based on the parameters mentioned in the selection screen.
    2. Execute report /RPM/FIN_PLAN_INT to perform the financial planning for a portfolio item for the different portfolio items based on the parameters mentioned in the selection screen.
Prerequisite: For the portfolio item, you must have executed report /RPM/PLAN_INT_PREP before.
    3. Execute report /RPM/BUCKET_ROLLUP to roll up the financial data for the different categories and groups of the portfolio items to its higher-level buckets.
    Hope this help you.
    Best Regards.
