ITunes 8.1 UI glitch

What the ****...ok, is anyone else having this problem? I ran Software Update (which installed iTunes 8.1 and the new FrontRow). After the installer finished, I opened iTunes and came across this:
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a209/Stridder44/Picture1-2.png
The bars labeled Name, Time, Artist, etc. are all messed up. They aren't clickable. It's like they're just stuck. And this is the same for playlists as well.
So I tried restarting my Mac. Nothing, still there. I downloaded the iTunes 8.1 installer, installed, and it's still there. O_o ***...
EDIT: Tired repairing permissions, nothing.
OK, and apparently opening various other playlists or the Radio/Podcast tabs messes it up even more. Notice if I click on the Podcast tab, then click back on the Library tab...
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a209/Stridder44/Picture1-3.png
And no, I don't run any UI modification apps (such as ShapeShifter, etc.)
Ok, so I just noticed the ratings are gone. All of them. But I can't change any of them. It's like they're just not there. I click on them, nothing. Also, the little speaker icon that appears next to the song currently playing is gone as well.
I tried using Onyx to clear the System/User/Application cache and it did nothing.

Well I upgraded to 8.1 and when I opened iTunes, there was nothing in it. I tried moving the library.xml to the desktop and then importing playlist. That didn't work. Then I did a :add to library" and located the iTunes files. I seemed to get my music and podcasts back but the "purchased" playlist dowsn't exist and the date added for each track has defaulted to the current date. At least iTunes works.

  • ITunes 6.0.2 glitch - unable to specify 3 star rating in smart playlists

    Hi all,
there seems to be an interface glitch in iTunes 6.0.2 which prevents me from setting up a smart playlist rule containing a rating of 3 stars. Whenever i try to adjust the slider to * it jumps back to ***.
    Can anybody confirm this?
    regards,

Yes, I can confirm it. Here's another thread, unfortunately without a solution yet: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=309553&tstart=90.

  • New MAC PRO: itunes audio playback-stuttering, glitching, skipping

I have a brand new mac pro 3.2ghz quad, with 8gb ram (bought a couple weeks ago). All seems fine with the exception of brief skips, glitches and stutters with audio playback in itunes. I tried updating to itunes 11 and this did not resolve the problem. My music files play fine on my girlfriends macbook pro (purchased over a year ago), and never had any problems on my old machine (imac 24inch aluminum). I went to apple with the problem and after multiple system recoveries they determined that the computer was faulty and sent me a replacement. I just received the replacement and tested out some downloaded music from the itunes store and the same problem happened. Am I just unlucky to get two computers with this issue? Is it the Mac Pros? Has anyone had this issue with mac based machines, specifically the mac pros? I saw another thread on the issue but seemed to be primarily windows users running itunes. The skipping happens as frequent as every 20-30 seconds to every few minutes, but it is definitely enough to notice
    Thanks.
    Baffled,
    Greg

    Hi Greg.
I seem to have discovered this problem this weekend. I listen to a lot of music from my apple devices and have done for years. What I have noticed this weekend is that both my Macbook 2008 and iMac late 2010 both suffer with a brief stutter every minute or so making the enjoyment of listening to music a little annoying. Both are running Mountain Lion 10.8.2. My iMac is running the 2.93 GHz intel i7 processor with 8GB ram. Playing music should be a doddle!
From my point of view both Macs are running independently to external speakers. The music I am running on those 2 devices has been ripped on both devices. e.g. Macbook has ripped and plays Apple Lossless format and my iMac has ripped and plays songs in 320kbps. My guess is its a bug with the new iTunes 11 or Mountain Lion although I have been using 11 since its release.
While I'm not able to supply a fix I think its safe to say its not your new Mac Pro. One other thing to note is that I have been running up until this weekend a 7 or 8 year old Mac Mini as a media device in my kitchen playing Apple Lossless format with no issues at all. This device however is running Snow Leopard with all updates applied. The Macbook is now playing the Lossless music with stutters that was ripped on the Mac Mini that was playing OK.
So is the problem Mountain Lion?
    Take care
    Paul

  • Itunes 7 fixes and glitches

For Windows users: There's been a lot of discussion about iTunes 7. Apple definitely need to fix a few bugs. Until then I've compiled a few fixes or should I say things you can try to get around the bugs of itunes 7.
    1. Be aware of the fact that only older ipods can revert to 6x. If you have a new ipod (video/nano) your going to have stick with itunes 7 and hope for a fix if you have any problems. Movies can be played on Fifth Generation iPod (iPod with video). You need itunes 7 for movies.
    2. From Bradley Price1: How to regress from iTunes 7 to iTunes 6.0.5
    a) Make sure you have a copy of the iTunes 6.0.5 installer. If you no longer have one, download it here:
    http://wsidecar.apple.com/cgi-bin/nph-reg3rdpty2.pl/product=11622&cat=1&platform =osx&method=sa/iTunesSetup.exe
    b) Shut down iTunes 7 if it is running
    c) Uninstall iTunes 7 via the Add/Remove Programs control panel.
    d) Go to your iTunes MUSIC folder (usually C:\My Documents\My Music\iTunes). You will see two files called "iTunes Library" and "iTunes Music Library". These belong to iTunes 7, DELETE them.
NOTE: Take care not to confuse this with the iTunes INSTALLATION folder, which is usually C:\Program Files\iTunes.
    e) You will also see a folder called "Previous iTunes Libraries". Look inside, there may be several copies depending upon your upgrade history with names like "iTunes Library 2006-09-12". Take the most recent one (the last one used by iTunes 6) and COPY it up to the folder C:\My Documents\My Music\iTunes. Now RENAME this file back to simply "iTunes Library".
NOTE: To copy a file in Windows, right-click the file and choose "Copy". Now go to the folder you wish to copy to, right-click in the empty folder space and choose "Paste".
NOTE: To rename a file in Windows, select the file and press F2. Now type the name you want and press ENTER.
After this is done, your iTunes MUSIC folder (C:\My Documents\My Music\iTunes) should contain the following objects:
The file "iTunes Library" that you just copied there and renamed
    The folder "Previous iTunes Libraries"
    The folder "iTunes Music"
    f) Now reinstall iTunes 6. All your playlists and ratings will appear as if nothing had happened. And, your Shuffle will work once more.
    3. Try this fix... Change QT control panel to 16 bit 41kHz. I call it a fix because it should be 24 bit as far as I'm concerned. I love Apple products! This is a bug as far as I'm concerned. Squash it fast APPLE!
Make sure you restart your itunes when making the changes in the quicktime control panel. For XP users. Do the following; start>control panels>other control panels. Select the audio tab in quicktime preferences. Rate:41kHz Size:16 bit
More from gswilder: He kept playing around with the Quicktime settings under windows control panel. I had to increase the sound out rate to get it to work. 44.1 KHZ would not work. I went to 64KHZ and it worked. Then on to 192khz and it worked. I have a Creative Pro EMU1212M sound card. So it may be a sound card specific bug. Depending on soundcard and driver versions, you may have to play around with all the quicktime settings to find one that works.
You may need to update DirectX. This did not work for me.
error code 2738 by whereswaldo: It turns out that 2738 means that Windows Installer can't read a VisualBasicScript. Simply install this capability on your pc, and voila- iTunes. This site says that this package isn't for xp, but it allowed my installation to work-

How to set up a crash log:
    Good morning, nic0806,
Unfortunately, the interesting meaty bits are the
ones that you've ...'ed out. But why don't we get
ourselves a full installer log and pass it onto the
    Apple Engineers?
    1. Open a commnd prompt window. (Start menu -> Run.
    Type in "cmd". Hit return.)
    2. Drag and drop iTunesSetup.exe onto the window so
that the full pathname of the file is at the command
    line prompt.
    3. Type in a space, then the following line:
    /l*v C:\log.txt
    4. Hit return.
    5. The installer will create a log file:
    C:\log.txt
    Send it to our buddy

One more: Solution to registering modules hang for windows users
    by: gailj
I had the same problems as some others installing ITunes 7 -it would hang at registering modules and never complete.
The last time I tried it, I brought up the task manager (ctrl + alt + del) and listed everything in order by name. There were about 6 instances of msiexec.exe running. Clicking and "end task" one at a time, the third one clicked (in use by system) allowed the process to finish and iTunes is now up and running again.
    Hope this helps someone else.
    Gail
Just a few thought... There's much MORE!

  • Strange itunes w/iPod Touch glitch--alternative itunes?

    Hello.
I have an iPod touch 2g, 8gb on itunes 8, windows Vista 32-bit.
For some reason, certain songs will not add into the itunes library to be transferred onto the ipod.
For example, I have a few Jack Johnson songs. One will add, but the rest of them wont. These were all burned from the same CD at the same time, legally owned and all. Itunes will transfer one song, but not the other six. I try manually dragging into the library and it doesn't work, and manually dragging to the ipod touch does not seem to have any effect either.
Is there some way to add songs that I'm not aware of, some reason that the songs are not being added, or even an alternative to itunes that would be able to add these missing songs?

That's what I assumed at first too, it it's not just Jack Johnson, I have a Don McLean CD from the 90's, a few A Fine Frenzy CDs, The Academy Is... (one of their CDs) among others. It's far too diversified to just be one particular thing. I have tried un-installing and installing iTunes a couple times, and it doesn't seem to be a driver problem at all.

  • ITunes 7 'previous track' glitch

Hello everyone. I've been experiencing a bit of an issue with iTunes with regards to the 'previous track' button. Oftentimes, if I press that button with a few seconds to go in the song, it'll still advance to the next track. Occasionally, when this happens, I can hear the previous track (the one I meant to go back to the beginning of) playing along with the next track! It doesn't occur every time, but is rather annoying when it does. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
    -Adam
(On an unrelated note: I've discovered that, on my Sawtooth G4, the Visualizer no longer runs nearly as smoothly as it did under iTunes 6.5. Also, with both Macs, I can't change the size of the visualizer from full screen, since the command codes to do such merely turn the full-screen visualizer off.)

  • Why won't some music sync from iTunes to my iPhone 5?

I have purchased several items from the iTunes store with no trouble syncing and playing on my iPhone 4. Recently I purchased two iPhone 5's for myself and my son. His phone is synced to my iTunes account and can play all content. My phone initially synced all my music and comedy albums. Occasionally I would come across a song my iPhone music player refused to play. I would touch the song name, briefly see the song/album and it would flip back to my playlist/song list without playing or it would skip to another song. Sometimes skipping several songs in between and flashing quickly the song title.
To rectify this, I researched the problem on the forums and tried one of the suggestions of right clicking on the song in iTunes, converting the song to AAC and then deleting the original and re-syncing. After powering down and re-syncing, the 173 non-synced songs out of 808 purchased songs were no longer even on my phone.
I accessed the iTunes store through the app on my phone, found the non-downloaded songs in the cloud and manually downloaded them to my phone. Although I couldn't put them in the playlists I had created on iTunes (where they are checked and the playlist is checked for syncing) I did have them on my phone and they played perfectly. After my phone was plugged into a power source with iTunes open and my phone synced, the songs were once again missing from my phone.
I contacted Apple support and we spent some time trying different things:
    1) Selected tab under iTunes preferences for devices  "Prevent iPhone from syncing automatically"
    2) Reset all settings
    3) Backed up my iPhone for a restore - which we never did.
I spoke then with a senior support consultant and we then:
    1) Deleted the songs from my phone through Settings > General > Usage > Storage where my playlists remained but were empty.
    2) We re-synced all my checked playlists. The songs were still missing.
    3) On iTunes we selected "Sync all music". Songs were still missing.
    4) Went to iTunes Store via iTunes on my Mac, looked up purchases and downloads, re-downloaded missing songs (there were only six of them and happened to be the ones that I converted to AAC).
    5) Created new "Test" playlist and dragged two of the missing iPhone songs into it. Synced phone to include new playlist. Playlist appeared but was empty.
I had purchased two John Pinette comedy albums. One entire album will not sync and on the second, only two of the thirteen "songs" will sync. The support person asked if I wanted to change all of the m4a songs to mp3 and was going to show me how but when viewing the John Pinette "Still Hungry" album where the first and last song synced, they show the file ends with m4a, as do all of the songs that won't sync. This leads me to conclude that the file type isn't the issue, but that there is something corrupted with certain files from the iTunes store or a glitch that is incompatible with the IOS 6.1.
Has anyone else had a similar problem and have you been able to rectify it?

I have a similar problem and have spent three sequential days at the Apple Genius Bar before we were able to exclude most other possibilities and found that certain files (in my case all mp3s from CDs I own) that play just fine in iTunes 11.0.1 and that used to play in iOS 6.0.1 do not play in iOS 6.1. We restored the phone to factory settings and synced only a few of the music files that were problematic. They still did not play. We reproduced the problem on my iPad mini (iOS6.1).
Apple Telephone Support suggestion was to convert all mp3 files in iTunes to AAC (which according to Apple Website may degrade sound quality). No further suggestions or escalation but a recommendation to place comments on www.apple.com/feedback and, if there are enough complaints, someone at Apple might take an interest in this problem. Something has changed in iOS 6.1 where files that played on prior mobile system software no longer work.
Apple, please pay attention to this glitch with iOS 6.1.

  • My whole itunes library vanished twice within 3 months. I'd like to know why.

OK, I counted to 10 and took a deep breath before with writing this. I don't want to come off like a disgruntled
hater, but let's just say that right now I'm not quite a happy camper! Three months ago my iTunes library was
wiped out although in general my computer seems to be running perfectly. At  that time I called Apple and since
my computer is no longer under warranty, I had to pay $55 to ask "why was my iTunes library wiped out" and
to my amazement, no answer could be given. The person even went to his supervisor but still the reason could not be found.
I was told that since they didn't have an answer, I wouldn't be charged for the question but it was on my charge card bill
    and that wasn't fun.
My computer simply took it upon itself to create a new blank library and no one knows why? OK, I can live with that
and $55 won't break me but there is a principle involved. Let me also say that Apple did offer to download all the itunes
I bought from the iTunes store but I didn't need that because I had all the songs backed up on an external drive. For $55 I could have
re-purchased the songs anyway! Also: They obviously could not return my original songs that I created on Garageband.
I recreated my library after some time and effort that could have been used doing other things but all was well. It's not just an entertainment thing, it's also a work thing, so it upsets me when it vanishes and no one at Apple knows why, not even the geniuses?
Well today the whole library disappeared again and I'm really annoyed. (iTunes version 9.2.1 on Tiger 10.4.11)
From now on I will not store any songs in ITunes. If I have to burn a CD, I'll transfer the songs from my hard drive to the library, burn them and then delete
them from iTunes. It simple is not a stable place to store songs, especially when there is nothing one can do to prevent this.
This is not a big problem. It's just a pain in the neck. But it makes you wonder ~ Why do things disappear without the user having anything to do with it
and is this glitch confined only to iTunes? I have read about other people who have had the same exact experience. It's not the end of the world, and it does
point out he need to back everything up, but why does it happen? There has to be a common thread that runs through all of the anecdotes from people with the same exact experience. Is Tiger too old to handle iTunes 9.2.1? Is there some secret MB limit that if you go over it, a new library is automatically created? Why doesn't it save the old library? It just doesn't make sense, especially when Apple can't explain why or how to prevent this. As I mentioned, this isn't the end of the world and I don't want make a big thing out it. I just want to know how files can be deleted without the user doing anything to delete them. I feel like I'm not in full control of my computer. I love Apple products and I always will but saying I wouldn't be charged for the call and then charging me anyway doesn't seem very Apple-ish. Their customer service is awesome but this was not right. They did say that I would be charged regardless of whether or not my problem was resolved (and I agreed to that) but when it couldn't be resolved they said they wouldn't charge me. A couple of days later, an iTunes rep e-mailed me the downloads for the the songs I bought which as I mentioned I didn't need because they were backed up but I guess they assumed that was a "resolution" to my problem. They couldn't however return my original songs and although I had them backed up, there were a few that were not and those versions are gone forever. But life goes on. I just won't store songs in iTunes anymore. (deep breath) I still love Apple and all the things I can do with their amazing products. I know I should upgrade my 6 year old iMAC and get Time Machine and Lion and all that jazz but but I just wanna make music
and become a technician. My puter works perfectly and I have 3 ext drives each with 1TB of space. It's iTunes that has a glitch. (imo)

I dislike every iteration of iTunes more & more, in fact almost every iteration of any Apple App is worse than the one before, it's also sad that Apple is evermore closing off the really good 3rd party Apps, I use Audion since Apple bout SoundHam Mp & totally ruinrd it...
    http://www.panic.com/audion/
As far as backups go, I gave up on the sillyTime Machine, it seemeed to do it's stuff, but I could never get a good restore!
Every other Backup App I have, (about a dozen or more), always work.
Never bought anything on iTunes, nor am I likely ever to do so.
It's not even my birthday, but your post now has ne listening to Animals by Pink Floyd for the 1st time in years!
Back to your losses, How sure are you the of the Disk integrity?
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

  • ITunes 11.1.3 issues - freezing during audio playback.

Like many other folks on here, I'm having some playback issues with iTunes 11.1.3.
Macbook (couple years old) 2.4 mhz 2 core- 4 gigs ram
We use this computer primarily for music playback for dance classes and performances. Have run dozens of shows over the last year or so with zero issues.
There *might* be a better playback software option, but iTunes doesn't get in the way with too many options, has (up until now) been rock solid, and has never let us down, and is less prone to user error causing huge WHOOPS during something important.
That is, until 11.1.3. Didn't really notice any issues at first, but wife came home from a dress rehearsal Wednesday evening and complained - "it froze a couple of times while playing back Act 1. What's wrong with my computer?". (Act 1 - approx 50 minutes of music - 40ish total cuts).
I looked at it - she had a ton of other stuff running - mail - wifi - DVDPlayer - iPhoto - you name it. I figured that was the problem, shut all the other stuff off, and figured it was solved.
Nope - I'm running audio during our final tech rehearsal this evening before performances start in the morning.
35 or 40 minutes in - froze again during a track.
It just stopped - buttons became unresponsive - beachball came up - we waited a minute - and then it freaked out while trying to catch up with anything I had pressed, skipped around a bit, then resumed acting normal again.
Took a short break - checked nothing else was running that didn't need to be and made some adjustments:
    Wifi off
    Cloud off
Check downloads, sync, podcasts ... all off.
Reset all warnings. Reset cache ( which took a surprising amount of time)
    Match and Genius, off
Opened Acitvity Monitor and stopped any processes that were not essential
    Reboot ....
Another 30 or 40 minutes later - froze again.
Luckily, the lighting guy had a PC laptop with him. I quickly authorized his computer, transferred everything, and the rest of the evening went without a glitch.
Not sure what to do next. I'm pretty sure it's NOT the computer.
Disk checks OK. All hardware test are OK.
    Couple of observations:
    1. If I repair permissions - it finds a TON of messed up (?) iTunes permissions and fixes them. One day later, it find just as many again. What's up with that?
    2. If I watch disk access in the Actiity monitor during playback - on occassion there's a WRITE spike. Odd. What's it writing? This is with NOTHING ELSE running but iTunes, which didn't glitch during the spike, but still, what's that? A contributing factor? A clue?
    3. CPU and memory use looked OK. Haven't managed to get it to glitch again while I'm actually watching this though.
Between what I've tried, and what I've read here, I'm pretty convinced our Macbook isn't at fault here. I'm pretty sure there's a problem with 11.1.3
If anybody has other observations or suggestions, I'l love to hear them.

    Are these recent releases?
I had troubles right after iTunes 10 came out because Digital copies were misreading "10" as "1" since the version check script was only looking for a single digit version number. Newer releases shouldn't have this, but if it's more than two years old, it might do this.

  • IPod not recognized on iTunes.

Just got iOS 6 downloaded yesterday, and ever since I can't seem to get iTunes to recognize my 4G iPod Touch.  I've tried everything available to me; I re-installed iTunes twice, restarted my computer countless times, tried every USB port on my computer available, checked the cord to make sure it works, and just about anything else you could think of.  I can't be the only person with this problem, and I'm hoping it's just a software malfunction with the new iOS most recent itunes update not working together or something, because that's all I can think of at this point.

I rang Apple support and even though I had installed the latest version 10 iTunes,I was told to go to iTunes, Edit, then Preferences Devices tab, and download it again within iTunes, must be a glitch because this time it took a lot longer to update...and it worked! When you have downloaded the new version, restart your pc and go to preferences again and tick the first box. Must say, Apple Support were really good.

  • Anyone having an issue with the SD TV show option not working in iTunes Store?

SD TV shows are not available to purchase, I can only get the HD shows.  Is anyone else having this problem?

I'm having the same problem and am quite frustrated.  I have quite a few season passes for different TV shows, but they are all for the SD versions (cheaper, smaller, and quicker to download). I can get to the TV show's download page, but only the HD version shows up.  I can see the button for the SD version but when I click on it nothing really happens, or the only thing that happens is that the "HD" symbol after the name of the TV show at the top of the page disappears. But even though the "HD" symbol next to the TV name is gone, the episodes are all still only available to download as HD versions. The problem isn’t just that it’s only the HD versions that are available but I already paid for the SD season passes. And I'm not going to pay more money to download the HD version, I don't want, just because the iTunes store has a glitch.
So I really hope that Apple fixes this soon.

  • Itune library issues

Since I upgraded to Itune 7.4.2, I have the following issue :
Itune reports database is corrupted and starts loading th .xml file.
I now backup the library every time I make any change. When the issue happens, I kill Itune, copy both db and xml file using the backed up one, then Itune restarts without a glitch.
I'd welcome any suggestion to stop the pain.
    Thanks

I am having exactly the same issue, but for me it started happening after I installed 7.4.3.1
Most of the time, when I try to launch Itunes, I get "Importing xml file", and then a message that "The file Itunes library.itl does not appear to be a valid library file". If I restore the library from a backup, then it works fine for the next startup of Itunes, but if I then shut down Itunes and reload it again, the file is again corrupted - this seems to happen almost every time I restart Itunes.
Secondly, some of my purchased music files were deleted twice. At first I thought I had messed up, but then exactly the same files were deleted again. The songs were still listed in the library, but the files had vanished from the hard disk.
Prior to this I have been using Itunes for several years with no issues.
Please let me know if you find a solution for this.
    cheers

  • ITunes 11.1.2 stalls on launch and freezes following upgrade

iTunes 11.1.2 installed without a problem however when launched it boots up then fails to respond. I have a large music library on an external drive. Previous versions of itunes have always been fine with this. Djay software which uses the iTunes library still runs fine, however no luck with iTunes. Surley this glitch should have been sorted by Apple during testing before Mavericks was released. Very disappointing.

Please move the iTunes library to the Desktop and try again to launch the application. Does it still crash?

  • ITunes won't connect to other iTunes country stores?

I recently upgraded to the new iTunes. Now I get a message something SERVER IS TOO BUSY..

    HI Risa,
Open System Preferences/Date&Time and make sure the Date/Time and TimeZone are set correctly. Click the gold icon lock, bottom left side of the window to lock it, then Quit System Preferences and reboot your Mac. Launch iTunes and see if you can access the iTunes Store without a glitch.
Also, run Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities) and Repair Disk Permissions.
