ITunes 8.2.1.6 install problems

Downloaded the new iTunes 8.2.1.6 file fine, but when installer ran kept getting an error saying "Invalid drive F:". Changed my secondary hard drive, where my music is stored and I wanted to install iTunes, to F. Installation went through just fine. However, since I have installed the new iTunes, nothing on my computer works, not even programs on my main drive. After installed, every shortcut I clicked on would load the same program. Now, though, nothing will load at all, without browsing for the EXE file and even then, sometimes, it won't work.

I also have the F drive problem. It takes FOREVER to download the upgrade and at the last 1% I get an error edit that says something about an invalid F drive ... I have made at least 12 attempts!
1 - Windows XP
2 - I have downloaded thru iTunes and also direct from the apple download page
3 - I have used RUN and SAVE
4 - I DO have an external card reader that (when plugged in) IS the F drive ... I have tried upgrading with and without it polugged in
5 - I even tried renaming my DVD drive the F drive
6 - My songs are stored on an external hard drive ... I have tried upgrading with and wihout it plugged in.
7 - the only other fix I have found when googling the problem is to mess with the resgistry .... REALLLY???? Can Apple just fix their upgrade? Or is there another simpler fix ...I can't use my $325 iPhone as an iPod without this upgrade ... I have spent HOURS trying to fix this problem ... and quite frankly ... I am not satisfied with the fact that I can't use this overpriced EXPENSIVE phone right out of the box ... or at least HASSLE-FREE!

  • ITunes 10.6.1 Update install problem

I updated iTunes to 10.6.1 and now iTunes does not open. The agreement screen comes up when you try to open it and once you click "I Agree" you then get a pop up from windows saying the iTunes is not responding and that it needs to be shut down. I have reset the computer twice and tried downloading the update again. The 2nd download took like 1 second so I'm assuming iTunes recognized that the update had already been done.
I know I could uninstall iTunes and start over but I will then loose playlists that are not backed up on other devices. Any tips or ideas. This is the 2nd iTunes update that has caused me problems. This suprises me because Apple always seems to have their poop in a group.
    Thanks for any help!!!

Solved my own problem. Option-click the green button is now working, even though I tried numerous time before posting with no success!
Also I've just seen the spell check "abc" above, but am wondering why this is no longer automatic?

  • Itunes 1.11 windows 8 install problems, itunes 11.1 windows 8 install problems

I am running Windows 8 on a Dell XPS16 laptop and was using iTunes v 10 something.  When upgrading my iPhone 4S to IOS7 while connected to iTunes running on my PC, the upgrade indicated that I needed to upgrade my iTunes to v11.1 something (the latest version).  I proceeded to do this and the upgrade appeared to work OK.  However, when attempting to restart iTunes (after a reboot) all that happened was that the iTunes Software License Agreement window opened on my PC.  There are no buttons on the window, even after scrolling all the way to the bottom, and no option but to close the window.  So my current state is that I now no longer have a working iTunes on my PC.
I have tried many of the suggestions made to others who were also having problems with this upgrade.  Each time I downloaded, saved, ran or re-ran an upgrade, the install appeared to work fine and finished normally.  Each time the installation populates the \Program Files (X86)\iTunes folders and the properties of the iTunes.exe are as follows:
I thought this was to be a Windows 64 bit upgrade so I'm not sure why it gets put in "...\Program Files (X86)" as opposed to "...\Program Files".
I have tried all of the following and each time I just get the same license agreement window shown previously:
    1.  Followed an iTunes support link that indicated how to remove and cleanup all Apple software and then re-install iTunes by downloading it and using Run As Administrator to run the downloaded file iTunes64Setup.exe.
    2.  Tried to troubleshoot the .exe using the properties | compatibility | Run Compatibility Troubleshooter option - no luck.
    3. Numerous cycles of download and save the update, uninstall the old, install the new, install/repair the existing, etc.
Note that about a month ago, I allowed iTunes to upgrade itself to version 11.1... and the same thing happened as described above.  I spent many hours trying to resolve the issue and finally had to go back to ITunes 10 something.  I have, since that time, ignored any iTunes requests to upgrade but in a weak moment when upgrading my phone, I lost my head and let the upgrade proceed!  Hopefully someone has a solution to getting the Windows 8 64 bit upgrade working.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks, Henry.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
This works for some users. Not sure why.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year. Then see if you can connect to the store.

Are you listing the billing address for the card correctly? The address in the iTunes/MAS account must match the address on your bill exactly.

A bit of repetition, mainly for the benefit of anyone else with the same issue. In your case the "for older video cards" version might be worth a try.
When cleaning folders you need to check both the Program Files and Program Files (x86) folders, which you may well have done but didn't mention in the detail above.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The section Install missing components has advice on breaking down the iTunes installer into the individual .msi files which might prove useful if Apple Mobile Device Support won't install normally.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for performance issues or compatibility with third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • A solution for iTunes install problems

I upgraded to the latest ver of iTunes and immediately had ALL the problems posted all over the 'net.
The following is what worked for me.
BACKUP!!! Set a Restore Point. Back up your REGISTRY. It is critical that you back it up beforehand and use caution while cleaning it. Please do this in case everything goes T. U.
Remove all references to iTunes, iPod and Quick Time. There are literally thousands and you must get rid of all of them.
Find, download, install a copy of jv16 Power Tools.
    Then:
    1. BACKUP! Set Restore Point! Back up your Registry! Did I mention backing up?
1a. Be very careful cleaning out the Registry. Take your time. Go slowly. Make sure that what you delete is only iTunes-related. Check twice before deleting. Take. Your. Time.
1b. The Registry is your PCs mind; do not scramble it. You will be sad.
    2. Using jv16s Software Manager, uninstall iTunes, iPod and Quick Time.
    3. Using jv16s Registry Finder, one at a time, search for and delete ALL references to iPod, iTunes, Quick Time and Apple Computer (BE CAREFUL; it will give you references to various 'applets" and "appletalk"; do NOT delete those. Only Apple Computer stuff.)
    4. Using Microsofts Search function, search for all remaining references to iTunes, iPod, Apple Computer (leave applets alone) and most importantly-Quick Time.
    5. When you are certain that everything that says Apple Computer, Apple, iPod, iTunes and Quick Time exists no more on your PC, Reboot.
    6. Go to www.old-software.com and download an old copy of iTunes. The one that finally worked for me was iTunes v 6.0.5
    7. Install an old version of iTunes. DO NOT USE THE LATEST VERSION OF iTUNES! Thats what caused the problems in the first place.
    8. Reboot.
Even though you previously "uninstalled" iTunes, probably using the Add Remove Programs application in Control Panel, there remains behind thousands of pieces, parts and references to iTunes and Quick Time, in the Registry, TEMP files, Documents and Settings (Application Data and Local Settings), in Windows/system32 and a hundred other places. You gotta get rid of it all.
Quick Time seems to be the main culprit, but in the end I had to get rid of all traces of all of the Apple applications before I could install again and get it to work.
It took me 3 days to figure out this procedure but once I did, it took only an hour to do it.
I've seen a couple other procedures recently posted here that look good. If you are uncomfortable with going into the Registry, try one of those others first.
And fer cryin' out loud, Apple. Yank the latest version of iTunes off your site. I did a Google search for "iTunes installation problems" and came up with 700,000 hits. Do ya think you might have a problem?
Windows XP   Try testing your upgrades before releasing them!

Im trying your method right now, when im finished ill let you know how it worked out. I agree with your comment on apple needing to pull the latest version and get a version that actually works.

    Repair your Apple software update.
Go to START/ALL PROGRAMS/Apple Software Update. If it offers you a newer version of Apple Software Update, do it but Deselect any other software offered at the same time. Once done, try another iTunes install
If you don't find ASU, go to Control Panel:

  • ITunes update 10.4 install problems.

Reading through all the communities topics on the new update 10.4 for iTunes, I though I would put my experience among them just in-case it helps somebody out.
First off, installing 10.4 iTunes and iOS 4.3.5 to my iOS devices was the worst thing I have ever done in my Apple life.  Both have created more problems that I can list, I was really looking forward to IOS 5 when it comes out but now seeing how Apple updates just seam to go from bad to dreadful I am now not looking forward to it.  Anyhow, this is about what happened when I installed iTunes 10.4
When I got the pop up that there was a new version of iTunes to down load and install, this in the past has always been a very good and easy install, from the press of a few buttons and 5 minutes later it was all updated OK, BUT this time it was not see easy and very long winded.  Again, I got the pop-up window saying a new version was ready to download and install, I clicked on it to do so but once it had downloaded and then stopped and I was shown a message saying that 'errors had occured but it did not say what these were.  This happened a few times so I gave up and contacted Apple Care, I was advised by them to remove iTunes fully from my computer and download a new fresh version and it would be OK, my worry was that if it was a problem with my computer then maybe the new version would all so not install so instead, I read lots of online stuff and looked at lots of different topics hear and found one option that looked to work for me, this was as follows....
I downloaded only the new update 10.4 and then found that on my computer, right clicked on it and selected to install manually, this all went through OK but looking what was going on on screen it was not the new 10.4 that was being installed but the software by Apple to carry out the install was being updated.  This took a few minuets and then it looked to all be down, I went back to iTunes and tried again to download and install then new 10.4 update and this time it worked OK, well OK to a point.  I have found several bugs in the new 10.4 as well as the new iOS 4.3.5.  I have listed two of them as chat topics.  There does seam to be lots of problem with these new updates and I really really hope that Apple puts a fix out soon.
All I can say is, if you do find any problems, please make sure you do a feedback form and let Apple know of it, the more they know the quicker we all get a fix.  You can leave update hear: http://www.apple.com/feedback/
    I use Windows XP SP3
    iTunes 10.4
    iOS 4.3.5

This seems to broken for everyone.
