Itunes 8.2 crashing Windows XP as with so many others, no solution given

If you google this problem, there are so many people with Windows crashing when using Itunes but no real solution offered, Why ??? I have gone from Itunes 7 to 8 to 8.2, still the same. Removed all but essential other programmes, done virus checks, done registry repairs, removed itunes, cleaned the registry then a clean re-install, upgraded all drivers, it even goes down in safemode.
Still Windows XP will crash only when itunes is open, even if it is sitting unused. The Event Viewer log identifies Itunes every time e.g. "faulting modules itunes.exe" and others that refer to itunes. With itunes closed down, I have no crashes
What is wrong with itunes, why can't Apple provide a proper reply to resolve this - or if they havem then one that is easy to find.
Please can someone help

  • Itunes 7 keeps crashing and takes music with it

I had to download itunes 7 for an ipod nano I bought but it keeps crashing and all my music files keep dissapearing. They are nowhere to be found. The message that pops up is that the itunes library is damaged and then after I import some music, the music I have redownloaded dissapears again. It also happens with my ipod mini. I have even created an alternate user but it still crashes and I've tried all the hints and tips to find the music. What can I do about this.
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

PabloD I feel for you. That is a terrible thing to happen. It shows that iTunes 7 is not discriminating between "ripped" songs and legitimate ones. Evidently, the issue has not become one that has flagged Apple's attention. I strongly urge you to invest in another drive and back up your files. That was the only way I saved myself from disaster.
Now on a related issue, iTunes has for the moment stopped deleting files, but I am not sure that the next time I do a rescan of my files that it will "find" them all. That is tedious work, as I have to manually point iTunes to every file that comes up with an exclamation point.
I wish I could give you an explanation of why iTunes 7 is acting up like this but so far there are no answers forthcoming.

  • I have been blocked from my own ITunes songs because my apple ID associated with too many devices

I cannot access songs from my own iTunes Apple ID because it says my iPhone has been associated with too many devices.  I have to wait 90 days to access my own songs on my iPhone.  Here is what happend:
1-Our family moved.  So, with the address change, the credit cards on all of the apple ID's would no longer work because the other users had our old address. (I have 4 users in the family).
2-My family started calling me while I was out of town complaining that purchases were rejected.  This was because our address had changed and it no longer matched.
3-I tried to walk them thru the process of changing the home address on the credit card, but they couldn't do it.  They assured me that they were doing it correctly and were still rejected.
4-So, being the techie of the family, I simply logged into each of their iTunes accounts from my iPhone while I was out of town and made the address change.  While I was in their  accounts, I noticed they didn't have automatic downloads and iTunes match and stuff.  So, I changed it so it would work for them when they logged back in.
5-I go back to log into my own account on my iphone and I cannot access my own songs on the iTunes cloud for 90 days!!!!  This is quite disappointing.
How can I get this corrected?   I tried to reset user settings (not a erase and reset).  I figure it's not my phone, but my iTunes account thinks I'm doing something sharing-wise.
So, in summary, when I am on my iPhone and I go to my iTunes library and click on a song (that I have paid for) with the cloud and down arrow beside it, it's rejected.  It says that I have too many apple id's associated with this device and I must wait 90 days.  It counts down each day.
I just want access to the music I paid FOR!!

    Thank you-I will contact support.
No, I cannot wait 90 days.
Let me restate what I have to endure, even though I own the music and have paid for iTunes Match:
I cannot access my purchases-zero-at all
I have to listen to never ending McDonald's latte commercials and progressive insurance. I have now banned both of those annoying businesses and will not make purchases there.
In summary, I have given apple my minded, and have zero to show for it.
Ps-you get to hear the McDonald's "love hate commercial" every 2 songs on iTunes Radio.  I have substituted the words where I hate McDonald's and love when the commercial is over.

  • Itunes 10.6 crashes Windows XP SP2

I have tried uninstalling & reinstalling via instructions from this forum. It still crashes my entire system, requiring a restart. I have no plugins or security software installed. In desperation I installed Spotify. It plays my music fine, but in general I do not care for the interface. I want my iTunes back. Does anybody have any other ideas as to what is going on? Thank you.

"There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."
Perhaps let's first try updating your Apple Software Update.
Launch Apple Software Update ("Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update"). Does it launch and offer you a newer version of Apple Software Update? If so, choose to install just that update to Apple Software Update. (Deselect any other software offered at the same time.)
If the ASU update goes through okay, try another iTunes install. Does it go through without the errors this time?

  • ITunes 10.4 Crashes Upon App Sync With iPhone 3GS 32GB & iPad 2 64GB

I'm using the most recent iTunes software update (10.4.0.80) in conjunction wth IOS 4.3.5 on both my iPhone 3GS 32GB and iPad 2 64GB.
Both my iPhone and iPad have become unusable.

Well, yesterday I fixed this. I don't know very well what of all the things I did was the one that fixed my problem:
When I tried to reindtall Lion it told me that my disk was not able to be used for the instalation so, investigating a lot pf posts, I did all this in order to reinstall Lion and see if iTunes worked properly after this:
-I removed my Bootcamp partition (used to use Windows XP).
-I made an empty small partition.
-Then I was able to reinstall Lion into my main partition.
-Installed Lion. iTunes started to work again.
    -I removed the small partition.
    I hope this helps someone.
    Peace!

  • ITunes Network Diags pass, but Restore fails with Error 3014 and recommended solutions risky and unhelpful

We've had routine OS updates fail recently (weeks apart)
on both an iPad mini and a 5th Gen iPod. The devices ended up in recovery mode
and we had to Restore them to factory defaults.
That is bad enough, but it gets worse...
We started iTunes, plugged in the bricked device, and were
prompted to do a Restore. Clicked OK. It ran for a while, completed the
extraction step, and the failed with unknown error 3014.
We searched support, and there is plenty written about
unknown error 3014 when doing a Restore. Most point to network connectivity
issues and things like blocked ports or conflicting security software. Sure, I
can see how those could cause problems that may be outside Apple’s control
(although doing everything over HTTPS would eliminate the issue.)
BUT, iTunes has built in network diagnostics (Help ->
Run Diagnostics… -> Network connectivity tests). Shouldn’t these tell me if
there is a connectivity problem with iTunes? The support articles all seem to
tell you to manually dive into all kinds of low level  things such as hosts files.
iTunes network diagnostics all passed, but out of
desperation, we still tried shutting off our anti-virus (Avast) and firewall
(Comodo), connecting directly to the internet without our router blocking or
filtering anything, editing the hosts file, trying a different PC, etc. as
instructed. It was all a wild goose chase – nothing helped, and Apple’s
instructions exposed us to security risks (attaching directly to the Internet
with no router, firewall or ant-virus software!)
    I can’t be 100% sure because I still had our anti-virus
SW and firewall turned off, but what seemed to finally work was to just try
dozens of times until iTunes and Apple’s servers finally worked!
After dozens of tries on two PCs over two days, the last
thing I did was to turn off our anti-virus and firewall again, started iTunes,
plugged in the device, attempted a Restore when prompted, retried when it
failed. Then closed and reopened iTunes while leaving the device attached, and
Restored when prompted. That one time, we got lucky and it worked. I’m sure
many people really have blocked ports, etc. but I can’t see how that could explain
our problems. Hopefully this posting will help someone.
    ** Apple – If you’re reading this ** Please (1) find out
why we and others in the forums report persistent 3014 errors that seem to
magically go away if you retry often enough over a long enough period of time,
and (2) make sure the iTunes network diagnostics are truly thorough, and then
direct customers to them rather than making them dig through port mapping
settings and hosts files. Thanks for your consideration.

  • Windows taskbar overlaps with bottom of other windows

Hi, On my new MBA I installed windows 7. The taskbar unfortunately overlaps with other windows so I cannot access things like the bottom scroll arrow, or during downloads the open/save buttons.
By auto hiding the taskbar it works, but I prefer to see the taskbar. On my win7 machine the windows do not overlap the taskbar area.
    regards

Use G Toolbox => Shell => Taskbar, you can set Taskbar to Auto Hide, Always on top, or both.
    Reqire XP.
G Toolbox => Shell =>Hide SysCtrls can return taskbar handle.

  • Is there a way to project a slide show using iPad with Chromecast? Other better solution?

When I travel for business I like to try to just bring my iPad and no laptop.  I need to be able to project some slides (could be .ppt or .pdf).  I have Chromecast installed and working on the TV.  I also have the latest "free" version of Powerpoint on my iPad. I do not pay for the MS360 subscription at this time - I only use it to view slides as needed and edit on laptop.  Series 3 iPad with latest software.
    1) Is there a way to project a slide show to a projector or TV using Chromecast in conjunction with either Dropbox or Powerpoint, on the iPad?
or in absence of a "yes"
    2) What is the best toy to buy so that I can mirror my iPad screen to a projector / TV?  Note I don't need a $100 Apple TV brick, please.
    Thanks,

  • Windows Update Complications with Itunes

A few weeks ago, my computer pushed an update to windows that I didn't have the option to delay any further. I believe it was in connection with the Windows 8 / 8.1 update. After the update was pushed, I also upgraded iTunes to the most recent version, 12.0.1.26.
After the updates, I was no longer able to play songs on iTunes. I was able to open the application and click on a song to play. The song shows at the top player bar, but remains at 0:00.
After searching the iTunes and Windows forums, I saw that many others were having these errors and there were several fixes. I started working through the fixes, one on the Windows forum, which suggested that the file QTmoviewin.dll file was the issue and needed to be deleted. Subsequently, I found several other fixes on this forum suggesting that it only needed to be copied and moved, but as I have been working on this issue over the past several weeks, once I went to restore the file I had deleted, it was no longer available in my recycle bin to restore.
I have tried uninstalling and re-installing iTunes to get the file back, but it doesn't bring that specific file back. I have tried downloading the file from dll.com, but each time I get an error that the install cannot be completed.
I have reached my tech-saavy limits with this one and need help. How can I either restore the file I have deleted but is no longer in my recycle bin or get the file from a secure website that will allow complete installation?
    Thanks!!!

The registry settings used by the iTunes for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing another CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes

  • OS X accessing iTunes Library inside Parallels-Windows

    Hello,
over the last year I have built up quite a big iTunes library with content from the iTunes store (950GB, + approx. 25GB each month).
(Its a family library, no addicts at work here )
Now I need a way to securely store my files, since they have outgrown my iMac's HDD.
I want full redundancy (all data must exist on at least two drives) and adequate speed (should allow FullHD streaming over Gigabit Ethernet) at the lowest cost possible.
However, I dont need off-site redundancy. If my house burns down, I dont care about my movies.
Since I am not aware of a software solution for MacOS X, I had one crazy idea.
Use the oldest Intel Mac Pro, run an iTunes Server in Windows Home Server in Parallels and: Voila.
    My reasoning here is this:
The old Intel Mac Pro's are available fairly cheap.
They have plenty of SATA-connectors (I want at least 3TB, not possible in Mac Mini or iMac).
    They deliver great streaming performance.
Windows Home Server stores each file on two different physical drives.
However, they are all combined to one big logical drive and all the "cloning" happens in the background.
Almost like RAID 5, just at file-level and not KB-level.
Exclusions and rules can be specified, too. Its just what I need.
I could not find another solution that promised the same bang for the buck.
OS X does not support software RAID 5.
When hardware RAID 5 controller-card fails all data goes out the window, unless a compatible card is installed... Thats a No-Go.
The reason for a Mac OS host system would be to allow for remote access via the internet (screen sharing).
Also, WHS could just run in the background inside Parallels and the Mac OS could be used as an AppleTV replacement.
(Nice AppleTV GUI's for Frontrow are available)
Does this sound like it would work?
Are there any solutions that are more straightforward and dont require Windows?
The only thing that worries me is this:
WHS stores everything on NTFS partitions.
If I want to add data (say, a movie) to the central library, how could I get it into Windows without using USB-drives or other crazy solutions?
And also: Would Mac OS be able to acces the library directly, or would it have to go through the network (two network cards would be no problem).
    Thanks for any comments.

I ran into an issue with the "Choose Library" step.
When I went into the folders to find the iTunes Library file, it wasn't there. So, re-started in Mac just to make sure I hadn't messed with that file location. Sure enough, the file was actually there, but the filename extension is different in Windows 7 and Mac - I think that's why it's not visible for me to select. I think the Mac is *.itdb, and the file type that it was looking for in Windows was *.itl
I was unable to get Windows to search for another file type.
So, then I tried to create a new library, but that didn't work because there was no music in the new location, and I couldn't save a new library into that folder.
I'm going to go play with it now to see if I can just copy the actual music files into the default location in Windows and create a new library.
Your post was really helpful, and it got me started!
    Thanks!

  • Itunes 10.5 crashes with no error when trying to play any music, video, or import/scan from the library folder on the compter with Windows 7 Pro.

Fresh install with all older itunes un-installed as well as other Apple software.
Now cannot get any songs, videos, or even scan library folder for songs to work on the computer.
itunes just simply crashes with no error comments.
This is itunes 10.5 on a Windows 7 Pro system.

Same here, though on XP. Have tried cleaning registry, reinstalling, deleting preferences. Created a new user with no library and I have the problem there, too, so it's not the library.
Is there no one to call about this??

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

If you still have the crashed Win computer, you may be able to recover your music and movies from the hard drive. If you have a friend with a hard drive USB connection kit and a PC, they should be able to help.  Otherwise, check locally for computer services that might do that for you (I think Best Buy Geek Squad may be able to help). If the drive itself is in good shape, it shouldn't be too expensive.
