Itunes 8.2 Scratchy Bass

When playing a any song on itunes, it sounds scratchy on bass parts. But when I use finder to play the song using quicklook it sounds fine. Why is that. This appear after I installed several apps including: Coversutra, Pixelmator, Magnifique, Yazu and DoubleTwist. I bought and installed all yestarday and now I realized that it had affected itunes. Is there a way to fix this? By resetting it, could it fixed, if so how do i reset it? Thanks a lot.

Well, it's not super easy on a Mac. Usually, if you download the file that you originally used to install the app, there may be an uninstall option, too. If not, I use some shareware called CleanApp:

This removes software pretty well.
Hope this helps!

  • Itunes + Gaming = choppy, scratchy, icky sound.

I consider myself a proud owner of an ipod. I chose the best I could get imo for my listening pleasure. Up untill the latest itunes version I was pretty satisfied with itunes. I could easily buy new music without having to leave the home. I even bought some music after I upgraded. Now i'm also hooked on one of the best known MMORPGs.... before I had no trouble playing music while gaming. Yet since this last version It seems impossible to do so.
I have a Soundblaster Audigy 2nx, (the usb thing with the 24bit sound). 5.1 surround. Before there was no trouble running my game and itunes together and still be able to listen to both the sounds. Now if I play my music in itunes without the game running, nothing happens. Even better: before I can even have the game running, switch to desktop open itunes play my music but !the moment! i switch to the game. The sounds gets choppy, scratchy, icky. And only the itunes part. The sounds within the game remains unaffected. I've tried all the solutions apple has handed to us users. 16-bit, 24-bit, stereo, 5.1, 44.1khz, 48khz, Lowering the sounds output of windows and raising the sounds output in itunes. ENABLING enhanced sound ( it was off to begin with on my comp), Turning on safe mode within quicktime prefs. All to no avail. Even tried looking for additional plugins which I had none...
So can somebody plz confirm that they have no troubles playing music (newly bought, and bought before) untill they switch to a game (that uses direct sound of course) and the trouble starts there?
I know apple is real handy in saying.... well u shouldn't use that game then.... NO, it worked before, I paid money for the songs I'm trying to play, I paid money for the ipod I have and that is the reason I use itunes. So plz fix it.
So another topic to add to the endless list of problems

I am having the same problem...yet the recorded music on the ipod sounds great. I just cant listen to any of the tunes while recording or just playing the cd. Its weird!
I have reset the Ipod what a job, plus gone in and made some speaker changes etc;, but nothing seems to work, and then some times it will play perfectly.
I have Windows Media, so naturally It opens when I put a cd in, so I have to turn it off on Mute and mute itunes and the it records great.
Help, I would like to listen to music while downloading and working on the computer..So does anyone out there have the same problem and a fix?
    Thank YOU

  • ITunes sounds scratchy and slow

When I play songs in iTunes, they sound scratchy and have pops in them. At about 8-10 seconds in, it really slows down for a second or two and then seems to free up a bit, but not without the scratching and pops.
I have iTunes 7.0.1.8 running on Windows XP. I have searched through the forums and tried all the suggestions I have seen about the QuickTime preferences, updating DirectX, etc. Nothing seems to help 100%. Any ideas????
eta - It gets worse when the CPU seems to be running at high capacity - (like opening an app or ie or something).

Bump - Anyone out there experienced the same thing???

  • Music scratchy in iTunes

So last night out of nowhere music played through itunes sounded extremely scratchy on my computes. I do not encounted this problem with windows media so my guess its a problem with itunes. My equalizer is set to flat (which is default), as it has always been, but for some reason it sounds terrible now even on the lowest of volumes...
I just upgraded and still have the same problem...anyone have any ideas that could help me out and fix this? thanks

Thank you for trying to help with those screenshots but they're not in English, and not the easiest to view.
A click on the screenshot will enlarge it.
Yes the are not in English but the preferences will look the same in English. Buttons and sliders are on the exact same place.
    Go to:
System Settings -> Sound -> Volume
On the Speakers pane click Advanced
On the upcoming new pane you will find two tabs
Screenshot 1 show the situation on the first tab. On there choose your speaker setup
Screenshot 2 show the situation on the 2nd tab. On there "Hardware Acceleration" is the point to fiddle with.

  • Itunes and dial up

I have aol dial up. Everytime I am online and try to put my CDs to itunes, i get kicked off within a minute. Also the music i put to itunes comes in scratchy. This scratchy sounds goes away when I am offline. Please help. Its driving me crazy. Is this happening to anyone else? What should I do.

Tough to diagnose remotely (and I bet you're trying to diagnose remotely, yourself). But I would be surprised if the dialup was the problem. We really need an error message or some description of precisely where in the download process did it fail. If he's still in the dialup world, you might want to go to the download page and make sure his machine meets the minimum requirements:

  • Scratchy Sound When Sliding Through Covers in Cover Flow View in iTunes 8

Anyone having problems with a scratchy sound as you slide through covers in the cover flow view in iTunes 8?
Also sliding too fast has caused app to crash.

The scratchy sound seems to have come up a few times with iTunes 8 (including in a couple of other threads that I can't find right now). It seems to have picked up around the last QT update, which was coincident with the iTunes upgrade.
    (post updated)
I must admit, I didn't read closely at 7:30 in the morning, and didn't see this was just happening to OP with cover flow.
But there have been a number of people (including me) complaining of general scratchiness in iTunes 8 and AirTunes that seems traceable to the last QT update. Be glad you aren't in my situation, where it's ALWAYS scratchy.

  • Bass Drops Out On iTunes CDs

I have been burning mp3 CDs with iTunes for playback in my car equipped with an mp3 disc player and subwoofer. I noticed the bass was very noticeably dropping-out on nearly all mp3 selections. I thought it was my subwoofer until a bought a new car and experienced the same bass drop-out through a different subwoofer. The bass eventually returns during playback, but when I rewind the track, the drop-out does not repeat at the same point in the song.
In my iTunes playback preferences I have both the Sound Enhancer and Sound Check options unchecked. My equalizer is set to "Rock". I'm using iTunes v7.6.2(9).

when I rewind the track, the drop-out does not repeat at the same point in the song.
    Cant be the CD then

  • Scratchy itunes player on my laptop

I have tried reloading itunes and it is still scratchy through my pc.

Just bought a brand new Mac Pro and have researched this issue extensively.  I have the exact same issue.  I'm not convinced it's just an iTunes thing... but the people with iTunes are the ones with the complaints.
What I am pretty sure is happening is the imperfections are being copied when songs are imported.  This seems to be especially true of older music with a lower original quality.
My situation-  I have some newer music that came from very recent mp3 files.  I converted them to AAC.  They play perfect.
Everything that I've imported direct from CD has a certain noise that sounds very digitial.  It's in the higher frequencies- cymbals, female voices, guitar leads.
The worst came very recently when I copied a song from Youtube.  After converting it and getting it into iTunes, the noise was the worst I've heard it.
So, I went back and listened to the song, nice and loud, direct from Youtube.
The higher frequency noise was almost *NOT COMPLETELY* gone.  I could still hear it.  I could also tell the original song quality wasn't up to par with what the norm of today is.
I went back and replayed the song as I have it in iTunes....  I heard all the distortions and noises I heard in the Youtube version... only amplified a bit.
My current conclusion is that iTunes does a great job of copying/importing songs, right down to the point of catching every little imperfection.
So, unless you have a perfect-condition original digital file with a really decent to excellent quality, you're going to get noise when you bring it into iTunes.
I would need to run a few more experiments and research other digital music player programs on how they compare to iTunes to confirm my diagnosis.
The problem is, when songs of lesser quality, come into iTunes, they get a little choppy/ scratchy sounding.
Think of a wave vs a mountain.  The mountain has rocks and sharp edges.  Those sharp edges show up as scratch sounds.  That's your older, or lesser quality, music files.  It's not just bits anymore... it has to do with frequency sampling rates.
The waves are smooth... no chops or edges.  Those are your newer songs direct from iTunes or other online source.
The REAL, long-term, solution, if I am correct, would be to have someone create a program that would digitally smooth out song files.  None exist to date.  Someone could probably make a nice profit if they figured this out.
...and the reason I believe I am correct would correspond with how people in the past have reverted to a previous version of iTunes, or another audio player, and the noise seems to be gone.
With digital technology, it's all about how fine you can make the sand... and then try to make it flow like water.
The trouble lies in trying to make that old mountain flow like sand, or water.  All iTunes knows is how to copy.  So, the mountain is still going to be a mountain with all its rocky, sharp edges, even though it might now be copied or sampled at a rate that would allow it to flow like very fine sand or even water.
A temporary fix would be to quit using the latest technology.
I'm stubborn, so I've decided I'll put up with the noise (which isn't on every song but is consistent within each album) until a real fix comes along, or I prove myself wrong and can provide the correct solution for whatever the problem really is.
Wish I had better news, but from this point, it seems as if this scrathy-sound problem is going to resurface every so often with updates.  Unless you get a fresh, updated, original copy of your music to bring into iTunes after an upgrade/ update comes down, you'll be stuck waiting for a future upgrade that addresses the issue.
That is to say, the other solution is to keep complaining to Apple, and in a future upgrade, they'll change the software somehow that appears to get rid of the scratchy sounds, or actually does smooth out the digital sharp edges that cause noise.
That seems to be what happened with version 10.5  ... but I have 10.6.1, which has me going... why is it happening again?
Oh yes, and just to be sure... I've run through everything else (about 10 different things).  It's nothing to due with the processor you have, the equalizer, or any setting in iTunes.  I've only seen one other post in some odd forum where someone explained that there might be imperfections upon import....   which is what lead me to listen to the one track I copied from Youtube from both sources, and as mentioned, it's not as obvious, but the imperfections are there in the original as it plays on Youtube.

  • Some how 10.5 version got on my computer and my itune music is all distorted and scratchy

Help I have windows xp and the 10.5 version of itunes has made my playback of songs all distorted and scratchy, i.e. like a hollow tin can.  Help... does anyone have info on a solution yet.

On that note, long story short, it was very helpful for me to download the latest firmware. Here's a link for the Windows download. Try this first, if you haven't already. One of the fixes "-Resolves issue with Audio dropout when playing to AirPort Express with AirTunes". Not exactly your issue, but worth a try.
    link: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/airportexpressfirmwareupdate63forwindows. html
I just purchased my AirPort Express, too bad they don't recommend updating firmware in BIG BOLD LETTERS, and who would think to do so if the equipment is brand new...anyways, good luck.

  • ITunes 10.7 - Too much bass?

Is there now, in iTunes 10.7, an all-the-time bass boost? I never use the equalizer because I don't want my music to go through any more processing than it has to. I like a natural sound, and listen through studio reference monitors for the authentic reproduction they provide. After auditioning the newest version of iTunes - 10.7, I am experincing a sort of bass boost. Remember the old bass boost switch on stereos and whatnot? Well it's like having that switched on. It sounds overblown and muddy, and it drowns out the dynamics of the music. I do listen to quite a bit of bass-heavy electronic music, so this effect is overtly pronounced for me.
i guess I am just looking for confirmation from others who might have noticed this too. I don't like the idea of having to pass my music through the equalizer just to remove the extra bass this version of iTunes seems to have built-in to default playback.

The current .itl file is in your home folder, ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Library.itl. This assumes you haven't moved your library from its default location. Rename that file or make a copy.
The old file is in the Previous iTunes Libraries/iTunes Library yyyy-mm-dd.itl.
Most likely it's the file with the latest date when you upgraded. Copy (don't move) that file to the iTunes parent folder and change its name to be 'iTunes Library.itl'.
Launch iTunes 10.6.3. You might lose some playcounts and ratings since your upgrade, but compared to having your music sound like <bleep> it's worth rolliing back.
When iTunes 11 comes out I'm going to wait a bit a see what other people say before I upgrade again.

  • ITunes 9: I can't hear the bass drum anymore

Well, the bass drum on the iTunes 9 it's very very low and weak, I can't 'feel' it.... before was loud and clear. Sounded like a drum, now it's almost like a bass noise.
I would like more bass drum contrast.
In general nothing is distinguable anymore. The cymbals, the guitars, vocals are almost flat. Not heavy.
I wish hear all the instruments clearly as before.
I can't fix with the equalizer. 80% of my music have this problem.
    What can I do?
    Message was edited by: Verzig

Thanks for the reply. I thought I was going deaf.
I opened the same file in QuickTime and the bass drum, the cymbals, the bass were a little better [not much], but rest is messed it up.
The same file in VLC it's way way better than QuickTime. Loud and clear.
I can't understand it. Is it a bug or there a new way to equalizer?
    Please Apple do something fast.

  • Low bass level after burning CD from iTunes.

I like lots of bass through my subwoofers when I'm driving. Unfortunately within the last 6 months or so, every cd I've burned through iTunes has low bass level. I can tell the difference when I compare an original cd to a burned cd. Is it normal for burned cds to have lower bass, or are there some options/preferences I haven't found yet that I can adjust the bass?
*Edit* Sorry, I just noticed that I posted this in the wrong section. Is there a way I can move it?

I submitted a request for the Hosts to move your post for you.
