ITunes 8.2 won't install on WinXP SP2 64bit

Installed my new computer (WinXP SP2/ 64bit) updated via Windows Update and tried to install iTunes 8.2 for Windows (64 bit). My system meets the requirements for this version, according to the Apple iTunes page. At the beginning of the installation I get the error "This installationprogram of iTunes requires a 64bit version of Windows Vista."
Yes, I checked if my Windows Updates are all up to date.
Maybe I cannot read, but on the downloadpage of this version, it says clearly that a Windows XP SP2 should do.
So I tried to install the 32bit version, which worked for the installation. The only problem is that my iPhone nor iPod will be recognized when connected. That gives the error "Install this version in a 32bit OS".
I like to install the 64bit version, but I don't see what I am doing wrong??

I am also having a similar issue. I can install earlier versions of iTunes, 7 and earlier, however, my iPod is only compatible with iTunes 8 or later. When trying to install it on my custom machine with XP Pro x64 on it, I consistently get messages recommending to install the 64-bit version (which is only compatible with Vista), or at the end of the setup initialization I get an error message saying I need to have Service Pack 2 or better. I keep my machine fully updated at all times so I KNOW I have SP3. I have tried multiple times reinstalling the service packs just to make sure I'm not crazy and the Microsoft update site isn't lying when it says in my update history that I have in fact installed ALL updates available. No change whatsoever. Does anyone have a link to a fix for this? Getting incredibly frustrated trolling forum after forum looking for an answer, and talking to clueless customer service reps that don't know what I'm talking about half the time...
Thanks in advance,
Chris

  • ITunes 8.1 won't install on Vista after uninstall

So I was trying to update my itunes and kept getting errors. I went on to uninstall it and reinstall which normally works. But this time around, I got some error messages and it won't install.
When it is installing, I get this message:
"An error occurred while attempting to create the directory: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\SyncServices\Schemas\iCal.syncshema\Contents\Resources\da.lproj"
I select retry in the window and it still doesn't work so I press cancel. Then it continues and terminates the install with this message:
"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2330."
It then proceeded to install quicktime with no problems so I'm quite puzzled on what I can do here. I just want to listen to music and my podcasts! If anyone can help me on this it would be greatly appreciated. I've looked through the forum and support things so I need some more guidance.
    Thanks,

  • Itunes 9.2 won't install on Windows 7

    please help!

Unfortunately, these sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we need to hunt down a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for *at least version 3.0* of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any BonJour and iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes 9.2 again. Does the install go through properly this time?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • Please help! Itunes 10.1 WON'T INSTALL

I bought the iTouch 4G recently, tried to upgrade my iTunes to the newer version but kept getting a message that said "Could not access network location %APPDATA%\." So I used the Fix It package, and tried to install it again but I kept getting the same message. Now, I'm using the Admin account on my computer and it still won't install but now when I use the Fix It package, it says "The specified path '%APPDATA&\' is unavailable." Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry, I'm posting this again, but I really want to use my iTouch.

You are probably running OS 10.4 or 10.5 on a PPC Mac.  No version of  iTunes higher than 10.6.3 is available for these older Macs.  I have the same problem, and while I can still use the PPC to sync my iPod, it can't be used to sync an iPhone 4 or higher.  The only solution, as I discovered after upgrading to the iPhone 4, is to buy a newer Mac.  I was able to get a 2006 MacBook running Lion for under $300, and that has been a lifesaver.

  • I tried to upgrade iTunes, now it won't install on my computer.

I was prompted to upgrade my itunes to the newest version. I downloaded the new version. It downloaded completely but when it came to setup I got a window saying, "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in the box below. I have no idea what this is or how to get to it. When I press cancel another window pops up saying the older version of itunes cannot be removed contact technical support group. There is no version of itunes located on my computer anywhere. What do i do to get my itunes back?

"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'iTunes.msi'
With that one, let's try the following procedure.
First, head into your "Uninstall a program" control panel and uninstall your QuickTime. If it goes, good. If it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to iTunes.
Next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Now launch Windows Installer CleanUp ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"), find any iTunes and/or QuickTime entries in the list of programs in CleanUp, select those entries, and click “remove”.
Next, we'll manually remove any leftover iTunes or QuickTime program files:
    (1) Open Local Disk (C:) in Computer or whichever disk programs are installed on.
    (2) Open the Program Files folder.
    (3) Right-click the iTunes folder and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion.
    (4) Right-click the QuickTime folder and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. (Note: This folder may have already been deleted if QuickTime was successfully removed using Add/Remove Programs earlier.)
    (5) Delete the QuickTime and QuicktimeVR files located in the C:\Windows\system32\ folder. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue. (Note: These files may have already been deleted if QuickTime was successfully removed using Add/Remove Programs earlier.)
    (6) Right-click on the Recycle Bin and on the shortcut menu, click Empty Recycle Bin.
    (7) Restart your computer.
Now try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly now?

Seems I need to uninstall iTunes 7.6.2 and install 7.7. Will I lose all my purchased content if I do this?

Just got off the phone with AppleCare, and they solved the problem for me. They had me uninstall iTunes by dragging the app to the trash, and then dragging the iTunes receipts to the trash as well (Library>receipts>iTunes.pkg). Then I downloaded and installed iTunes 7.7 with no problems. All my purchased content was untouched. Now...good luck accessing the iTunes Store to tether you new iPhone 3G!

I also used a registry cleaner tool and restarted again.

    Install RealTek drivers for sound.
Maybe the 2.0.x Boot Camp drivers didn't get installed. You have to have those first.
Also.... 2.1 is OLD as the hills and was only for SP3 really, nothing there to improve on W7 or Vista SP1/2.

    Hi Abhijit,
I am able to install InDesign CS6 manually on the machines from the CD/DVD however when trying to install it via GPO or running the msi using the msi exec commands it doesn't install and leaves the above errors in the event log.
The installation was made using the same CD/DVD and the installation works on the Windows XP clients and software other than InDesign CS6 will install to the Win 7 64-bit machines via GPO.

  • Itunes downloads but won't install at all

Hello, I had installed itunes in my PC and everything was OK.
Today I bought a new ipod nano, and when I connected it to the PC, itunes told me that it couldn't recognize the device (I cannot remember the exact words), although Windows did recognize it.
I searched in Apple support, and they said I needed to uninstall and reinstall itunes.
Well, I uninstalled all the Apple software (itunes, quicktime, apple mobile device support, bonjour, etc.). I have verified with the Windows Install Clean-Up Utility and nothing is left.
I downloaded the last itunes version from Apple, but whenever I execute the installation file, absolutely nothing happens. Windows just confirms if I want to execute the file, and after that, nothing. I have downloaded the installer several times, from different places but still the same. I have uninstalled, re-installed the Windows Installer, and still the same. I have cleaned all the Temp folders but it won't make any difference.
So, I tried to install it as Administrator, re-started and executed the installer...this time, although it does not install either, at least it throws out some kind of log file, which I am posting below.
If anyone has any idea, please help me, I've been trying to solve this ridiculous problem for many hours now.
Thank you very much in advance for any help you could provide me.
    Best regards,
    Ricardo
