ITunes 8 always opens when I log in/restart

Ever since I updated to iTunes 8 it always opens upon restart/startup or log in..
how can I make it not do that?
THANKS!!

Open the Accounts pane of System Preferences and remove it as well as anything else which may open it from the list of login items for your account, or control-click its Dock icon and set it not to open at login.

  • ITunes *always* opens when iPhone is connected -- Make it go away!!!

Ok, in iTunes 8.2.1, under Devices, I have Disable automatic syncing checked, and under my iPhone's Summary page, Automatically sync iPhone when connected is both unchecked, and for some reason, disabled.
Yet every time I connect my iPhone, iTunes bloody opens anyway. This only seems to have started happening with the last update or two of iTunes. Does anyone know how to stop this... it's driving me and a bunch of other folks crazy.

    Hi Jeffery,
Try removing the iTunes Helper Login Item, as Allan suggested in this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1888589

  • Everything is opening when I log in or restart.

So apple decided to include this new feature where before you log out/shutdown/restart, there is a checkbox you can mark that states "Re-open windows when logging back in", and I have that UNCHECKED but it still opens everything when I log back in, even if I quit all applications before logging or shutting down, they still decide to open up. I quit everything to save space and to not kill my computer, but it still insists on overwhelming me with application windows popping up..and this is really starting to get annoying. I have been trying multiple ways and tried multiple things to see what may be the problem, all of which below didn't work.
•Checked the box before shutting down, and then the next time I checked it again before shutting down, same result.
•Went into system settings to see what applications automatically open when I log in (which were Pages and Adobe Reader), removed them, same result/no change.
•Closed all applications properly, same result they still all opened when I logged in.
    •Force quit everything...same result.
So, nothing worked above..but what I mean by everything..well all applications I had opened for the past day..listed below.
    •Pages
    •Adobe Reader
    •Grapher
    •Mail
    •Notes
•Safari (Like all the pages I had opened before shutting down, even if I closed them)
•iTunes (They even remembered the song I left off: "Get Off My Cloud" Even after I correctly quit the application!)
    •System Preferences (***?)
    •Text Edit
    •iPhoto
    •Preview
So that's it! IF ANYONE COULD HELP ME, I would be mostly grateful, this has really gotten on my nerves, and I also have like no space either, so every time I log in I have to quit the applications I had already correctly quit the day before or a few hours ago, I'm just amazed on how my computer can remember the places I left off so well, even after I quit.
    Thanks, Cameron †

Look at the check mark in system preferences, general on "close windows when exiting"

Click on your iPad in the sidebar in iTunes, scroll down to the "Options" section, and uncheck "Open iTunes when this iPad is connected."

  • ITunes not opening when device connected

About a week ago, iTunes stopped opening when I connected my iPhone.  If I then open iTunes manually, the device will be recognized and will sync.  I checked in the system preferences and my Login Items had iTuneshelper checked, but the icon was a blank piece of paper and on the righ margin there was a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it.
I don't necessarily want iTunes to open when I connect my iPhone, but I would like to be in control of if it does or doesn't.
How do I set this straight?

Select the iPhone under Devices left side of the iTunes window.
Select the Summmary tab from the menu.
Select or deselect:  Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected
And from the iTunes menu bar click iTunes / Preferences then select the Devices tab.
You can select to have the iPhone sync automatically (or not) there.
Or, right or control click the iPhone under Devices then make a selection.

  • Illustrator CS 5.1 won't open when we log in to our Macintosh workstations on home network(mac)

    Hi,
I have been asked by one of our customers the following question, please can you help!!!
The issue we have is that Adobe Illustrator CS 5.1 won’t open when we log in to our Macintosh workstations using an account with a network home area.
We have multiple OSX 10.6 workstations and our users have Open Directory accounts with network home areas on an OSX 10.6 server. All the other Adobe CS 5.5 applications (InDesign, Photoshop etc.) work fine with our network accounts, but Illustrator won’t open at all. When a user clicks the Illustrator icon to launch the program, it bobs up and down in the dock for approximately 2 minutes, then the program closes. No splash screen appears. I have tested this with several different accounts (including new ones created for this purpose) on several workstations with the same results.
When I tested this with a local standard user (not Administrator) account Illustrator launched successfully. There are no other differences between this local account and the network accounts other than where the home area is located, and where the account authenticates to.
    Thanks,
    Elfed.

    Hi,
I advised my customer to phone Adobe support and insist on getting free support as it is a install/configure issue.

  • Why isn't my outlook opening when I log onto my mac?

why isn't my outlook opening when I log onto my mac?

    It's probably sleeping in...
Look in System Prefs>Accounts for the Login Items. If Outlook is on the list, it may be unchecked. If it's not on the list, add it.
    hope this helps

  • ITunes always crash when I press the browse button...

if I have opened the browse window in iTunes main window, and then start to play musics, at this moment when I press browse button to close the browse window, iTunes always crashes.
I don't know if it is a bug. Anyone can help me?
    thanks

    hiya!
Indeed, when crash happend it gave me a popup window to say that it has met a problem and have to be closed.
okay, let's try enlisting some additional technical help then.
we'll get a crash log from itunes, and send it to so someone who can interpret crash logs.
Typically, you'll need to configure Dr. Watson on your PC in order to generate crash logs. Windows start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return. At the prompt in the command line window that comes up, type in
    drwtsn32 -i
    And hit return.
This will create crash logs in Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\. There'll usually be a file in here called "drwtsn32.log"
prior to collecting the itunes crash log, delete any existing crash logs in there. (we want to make sure we send the correct crash log.)
generate the crash, collect the crash log, and send it to this email address
    in the email:
    (1) state the precise version number of itunes that you're using.
    (2) include the URL to this thread so that the person who gets the email has some context, but also give as much information about the context of the crashing as you can.
    love, b

  • ITunes always opens in Mini Player?? Help

Can't go into much more detail except that every time I open my iTunes, it opens in the little mini player. I should clarify by saying this by saying that by "open" I mean run iTunes after it has been QUIT after the last usage.

    Hey,
I am facing the same problem. Everytime i open iTunes on my mac, it always opens as the mini player on the left top corner of my screen(its never opened at any other position). Then i change it to the normal player with <shift>+<command>+m. Later, when i quit and reopen it, the normal window appears.
I've tried reinstalling it but the problem persists. Is there any way to fix this bug?
Using OSX 10.7.1 and iTunes 10.4.1.

  • Itune wont open when iphone connected.

When I plug my Iphone into the computer either Itunes wont open or if it's open it wont recognize the phone. The computer shows it's connected because it always asks when program I wont to use to look at the pictures. I have tried rebooting the computer and it doesn't help. My IPOD is recognized but not the Iphone. Help!!!

I had the same thing. Here's what fixed it for me:
I had downloaded the latest iTunes (7.3) but because my existing copy of iTunes wasn't in the base, Applications folder, it didn't overwrite my existing iTunes application. Therefore, when you go to click on iTunes in your dock, or any desktop alias, etc., it's still opening the old version. Try opening the newly downloaded version (in the base, Applications folder) and try it again. I bet ya it'll work.

  • ITunes keeps opening when I start computer

can anyone help with the answer;  same applies to iPhoto and iCal.

There may be two causes for the apps reopening:
either iTunes and others are added to your login items
or they were running when you logged out and are started again by Lion's "Resume Feature" when you login.
To remove the Login items: Open the System Preferences -> System-> Users and Groups, click the Login items tab and deselect any Applications that you do not want to open at login.
To avoid the automatic resume of applications:
When logging out deselect "restore application windows". If you want to deactivate "Resume" once and forever follow these instructions. http://applehelpwriter.com/2011/09/13/turn-off-resume-the-definitive-solution/ by billearl

  • ITunes not opening when iPod is connected, and won't restore properly? Corrupted?

I have a 120GB iPod Classic. Has not been jail broken.
    The problem:
The other day I connected my iPod to my laptop, but iTunes wouldn't open with it- it always opens iTunes. After finally opening iTunes and reconnecting the iPod to my laptop, it took 5-10 minutes for iTunes to realise that the iPod was in fact, connected. It then said it appeared to be corrupted and that I had to restore it. So I did. Numerous times. Each time I try to connect my iPod it takes quite a while for it to register with iTunes, but it always says it needs restoring- when I already did just before it connected again.
When the iPod isn't connected to the laptop it says there are "0 songs", "0 playlists" etc. But in settings it says that there is 111GB left. So all my content is still on there, it just isn't showing up.
This has happened previously, but I managed to fix it and my content appeared again. When I fixed it before, I was able to get into it via My Computer> etc, but now when I try to open it in windows explorer it says something along the lines of "Please insert storage device into Drive G". After this, it comes up with a window saying "You need to format Drive G: before you can use it. Do you want to format it?"
I can't even delete the folders manually in windows explorer because it's saying it needs to be formatted.
When iTunes finally decides to display the iPod, all it says in the side panel is "iPod" with the 'eject' button next to it. No "Music", "Movies" etc. The screen that comes up says my iPod is corrupted so I need to restore it.
I can't do anything with it. I've also tried to see what I can try to fix with it in disk mode, but that doesn't seem to do anything.
Is there any way to solve this problem? I've looked in forums online, but nothing seems to be working or able to do. I've scanned my iPod for any viruses (with Kaspersky Internet Security), and apparently it's clean. I will also be scanning my laptop for anything.
I've had the Classic for three years now. I have the latest iTunes, and I run Vista.

after letting it sit for awhile my itunes finally decided to work, but it's running very slow, especially when i try to put any music from my library onto my ipod.
