ITunes  8 constantly asking to authorize songs

I've just upgraded to the iTunes 8 and have encountered an annoying problem. I can't play music bought from the iTunes Store. I'll click on the song to play it and it asks to authorize. I enter the account info and it says that this computer has been successfully authorized. But the music doesn't play. So I click on the song again - same thing happens. I need to authorize it. So I enter my account info and success! But no song plays.
I Quit iTunes and restart it and now it plays the songs. For a little while. Eventually it skips a song saying I need to authorize the song.
Any idea of whats going on?
Thanks

This problem happened to me as soon as I upgraded to iTunes 8. I currently have 4 Macs authorized to play store TV shows, and only the iTunes 8 laptop is having this problem. My other 3 Macs are at the last 7.x version of iTunes, and all of them are playing the same files without ever asking for authorization.

I have the same problem - it is maddening. I rely on this iPad for work so this is not just an annoyance! The above solutions of changing the appleid on the device or on the website do not work.
The old email address no longer exists - I haven't used it in a year probably and I no longer have the account.  I logged into the appleid website and there is no trace of the old email address so there is nothing that can be deleted or changed there.  On the iPad there is no trace of the old email address so nothing can be deleted there either. I have updated the iPad software and the same problem comes right back.  Every 2 seconds I am asked to log in using the old non-existent email.  The device is currently useless.
The only recent change to anything was the addition of an Apple TV device, which was set up using the correct login and password.
Does anyone have any ideas? The iPad has been backed up to the iCloud so presumably it now won't recognize the current iCloud account? So restoring may notbe an option?

This is such a huge annoyance and getting in the way of my listening to my music, and I am reconsidering buying any more music from i tunes- someone please help!!!! Thanks

Remove the "SC Info" directory for your operating system as described in this Apple Support article then reauthorize.

  • TS1389 iTunes is repeatedly asking to authorize computer for one song on an album

I purchased an album on iTunes and one song on the album repeatedly asks me to authorize this computer but every other song on the album plays.  What is wrong with iTunes?  I enter my apple ID and password and it tells me the computer is already authorized.  But when I try to play the song, it asks again to authorize computer.  Over and over and over.  Something is wrong with iTunes.

You might also try deleting the track, then re-downloading it, which should be free.

  • ITunes 7.1 asks for authorization every single time I synch, other issues

Ever since updating to iTunes 7.1 I've had the following problems:
1.) It won't just sync new items when manually manage files is checked off.
2.) When I add one new file, it now tells me that I have to wipe and re-sync the whole thing instead of just updating the current music/video/etc (I'm actually waiting on it to sync my whole library again after it wiped out everything after adding one video file)
3.) When I now try to sync the iPod, it asks me to re-authorize all purchased content every single time.
Are these known issues with the new release of iTunes? Or are these bugs I should report to Apple?
Any insight from my fellow iPod users is appreciated. Specs are below:
Custom built PC running XP Pro, Service Pack 2
AMD Athlon 2800 + XP Processor
    1.75 GB of RAM
430 GB Total HD space (3 physical drives)
ATI Radeon X1600 AGP Vid card
    iTunes 7.1 (updated on 13 March 2007)

it could be that you have reached the limit of 5 pc,s authorized this can happen with reinstalls you can deauthorize your machinethrough the website some where and it should fixs it.
i had to do this after reloading windows

  • Trying to watch a tv show on Itunes and it ask for authorization

So, I went ahead and authorized it using my password, and I received the authorization successful message. It said I authorized 1 of 5 computers. At that point, I tried to run the tv show again and I get the exact same message saying it needs to be authorized. I tried this several times. I have done everything that Apple said to do and my computer and softward are all up to date and nothing will fix this. Of course, Apple will not help me with this problem. I hope someone out there can. Thanks in advance!

Depending on why it's been disabled, you might be able to re-enable it via this page : http://appleid.apple.com
Or you might need to contact Apple : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page
If it then works on your computer's iTunes but not your iPad then try logging out of your account on the iPad by tapping on your id in Settings > Store (Settings > iTunes & App Stores on ioS 6) and then log back in and see if it then works on it.

  • Computer constantly asks for authorization after migration to new mac when trying to sync ipod?

I've recently migrated to a new MacbookPro running Lion, from a Macbook running Leopard. My iTunes account and computer, though authorized, will not sync to my ipod, saying it will delete 15 or more files purchased through itunes as the computer is not authorized.
I de-authorized both computers and authorized the one I am currently using - to no avail, it still throws up the error. The account keeps reverting back to an old .mac address that I never used and have changed this to my new ID within the Mobileme website. Again this has not helped!
Am I going to have to find the original music files and copy them in to my itunes again rather than trying to do it through this authorizing thing? Is there any thing I can do to get this error to go?
I have recently got some new music that I put on itunes, but due to the error am unable to sync my ipod to get the tracks on there now!
    Help! Getting very frustrated!

Okay...fixed it. It was to do with my old @mac.com ID, which after searching on here have found you also cannot merge the identities.
Bit of a pain,  but got it working now...

  • ITunes Asking for Authorization to Play Downloaded Song

I am having a problem I've never had before.  iTunes won't play a song I downloaded 11.0.4 won't play a song I downloaded from the iTunes Store as part of an album.  It asks to authorize the computer to play the song.  When I enter my name and password, it says my computer is already authorized.  But then it wil not play the song!  I've tried the troubleshooting tips on the webpage (ie deleting my SC folder, etc) to no avail.  The "Info" section on the song, oddly, doesn't indicate that the song was downloaded from the iTunes store (the rest of the songs on the album list me as the downloader).  But I also can't re-download the song, because the store thinks I've already downloaded it.  The store offers me the opportunity to play the song, but then the same authorization problem happens.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Delete it and then redownload it.

  • Itunes keeps asking to authorize one song from an album purchased

I've seen that many people have posted something similar and I  have tried the various fixes like removing the /users/shared/sc info folder (which didnt exist on my imac) and also deauthorizing and reauthorizing the mac, reload etc etc. But one song in the Coldplay album I purchased doesnt play. The rest are fine. It keeps asking to authorise to play the song when the MAC is already authorised. Anyone have any ideas how I address this? I am sure if Itunes allow me re-dowload this it will be ok but how do you contact them? I should have just downloaded from Amazon, itunes does not make life easy.

Thanks for your help, appreciated, but I have no proxy, virus protection or such like. Its definitely a song. Its fully downloaded the Coldplay album and the song 'Paradise' just will not play without authorization and when I authorize it says my Mac is already authorized. I then go to play the song and it asks for authorization again. All other songs play without any trouble. The funny thing is I do an automatic download to my IPhone and the song 'Paradise' plays ok on the phone!! Its the best song the album as well!
Does anyone know how to go about getting ITunes to allow me to download just that song again?
Should stick to buying CD and then ripping the songs.

  • I'm trying to play a song and itunes is repeatly asking me to authorize the account.  I have authorized the account and it will not play one particular song.  What should I do?

I'm trying to play a song and itunes is repeatly asking me to authorize the account.  I have authorized the account and it will not play one particular song.  What should I do?

If just one song on an album is doing that, that suggests the track is damaged.
If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copy of the track and try redownloading a fresh one. See the following document for instructions:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the item, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.

  • After upgrading iTunes I keep getting asked to authorize account to play songs purchased with a very old hotmail account i don't have and can't recover the password. How can I authorize my songs again.

After upgrading iTunes I keep getting asked to authorize account to play songs purchased with a very old hotmail account (10 years) I don't have anymore and can't recover the password. How can I authorize my songs again? I tried to sign in to hotmail again and it says i don't have an account, but when I try to create a new one with the same name, it says one already exists.
When I try to recover the password from Apple, it of course wants to send an email to the account I can't get into, and when I try to do the security questions, it says my DOB is incorrect. How can that be wrong?! I am pretty sure I know my exact birthdate. Now I can't listen to a bunch of my music.

  • ITunes will not Authorize songs

I have tried several times to get this to work and I have already tried deauthorizing as well
When I try to play songs that were originally purchased on my G5 in the iTunes library (I transferred everything onto my new Macbook Pro using the firewire method) I am asked to Authorize over and over again. Even though I login and get the message that 1 computer of my 5 available is Authorized.
What is going on with this?

Thanks...Unfortunately I already tried that and it didn't help either. I should have put that in the original post.
