ITunes 8 crashing my computer.

When I access the "TV shows" section of the iTunes store, my computer locks up. I can't even force quit. My cursor arrow works, but nothing happens. I have to restart my machine each time I access "TV Shows".

Update fixed problem. Thanks.

It started working again. No more crashing. No explaination.

  • ITunes crashes my computer all the time.

I have installed itunes on my desktop and my laptop. When I got my ipod touch I connected it to my desktop and started getting things going. Since then, everytime I plug my touch to my desktop, it crashes. (not just itunes, my whole computer). Unfortunately I didnt have System Restore turned on for some reason so I cant go back. Now, my laptop has the exact same OS as my desktop, but it hasnt crashed but one time. Ive been having to connect the touch to my laptop when i want to sync or charge. I have Windows XP pro SP3 btw.
Now, I have read alot of post and I have tried everything from completely uninstalling itunes (atleast 6-7 times by now), uninstalling and reinstalling all my usb ports/drivers. There were no saved images on the touch either.
I havent had the touch plugged up to my desktop in a couple days but it still crashes from time to time when I have itunes running. Ive checked my system logs after it reboots and this is the closest thing I get to an error:
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x1000007e (0xc0000005, 0x804f04fe, 0xba4f7a68, 0xba4f7764). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini020609-01.dmp.
I tried looking for it too, but couldnt find anything. I REALLY dont want to have to use my laptop exclusively for my touch since most of my data and music is on my desktop.
If anyone knows exactly whats wrong or how to fix it, please let me know.

I seem to have exactly the same problem as FadedShadow 589, i just got the ipod touch and whenever i'm using itunes or am copying files my screen freezes and mouse and keyboard stop working so i have to power my computer on and off again. can anyone help?

  • Watching Sons of Anarchy in iTunes crashes my computer

Hello, I purchased season 1 episode 1 of sons of anarchy through the iTunes store, and when I watch it my computer crashes every time at somewhere between 2 - 5 minutes into the show. This is on Windows 7 x64, with a quad core CPU and 4 GB of RAM. My CPU cores never go above 15% utilization while watching, and plenty of RAM available, no irregular heat either. Video drivers are current, OS is fully patched.
I watch and transcode HD video all the time on my computer, from disc and file - never had issues. But I rarely use iTunes, so perhaps this is just a problem with that playback. Hard to tell since the DRM prevents me from actually troubleshooting this. Any thoughts? iTunes 10.0.1.22
    Regards,
    Rob

Even the standard definition versions crash my computer. But only for that 1 show, episodes from other shows I bought from Apple work fine. Last straw, running iTunes on Windows is just way to flaky for me, and they won't even answer questions about it at the "genius bar".

  • Upgraded iTunes, now iTunes crashes my computer when syncing photos to my iPod Touch, how to fix this?

I upgraded to the latest iTunes this morning, now when I sync to add more photos to my iPod Touch, it crashes my computer.  Why is that?  And how can it be fixed?

    *Replying to D&Z*
+But, it will do it at other times as well. If there is an error message - I do not see it as it happens too fast.+
We'd better check for a hidden blue screen, then.
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.
Now try to provoke another crash.
With those settings in place, does a blue screen appear before the PC reboots?
If so, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x\[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
If the blue screen mentions a specific file (for example, “ati3duag.dll”), let us know what that is called too. (Exact spelling, please.)

  • ITunes Crashed my computer!

I am running a PC, and after installing the new version of iTunes I received a message saying installation complete, please restart your computer. After restarting my machine the screen was black and I can not even boot in safe mode. I don't know what to do. Any suggestions at all would be great! Thanks apple.

The exact same problem happened to me and I still haven't been able to figure out how to fix this. Vista begins to boot but, just before loading the desktop, essentially crashes. Booting in safe mode doesn't help.

  • ITunes crashes and computer freezes

Over the past month or so when working on my computer iTunes has suddenly stopped playing and I'm confronted with the spinning beachball of death.  Every other application freezes and I can't even force quit.  The only option I have is to switch off and restart.  Is anyone else having the same problem ?  Are there problems with the latest version of iTunes ?  Is there some syncing problem with iCloud causing this ?  Can anyone offer some advice ?
    Thanks
    Colin

Having found a working library file it may pay to copy it into the standard location and reconnect to it there. See Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash for the steps I would normally have given.

  • Itunes crashes the computer as soon as it opens and restarts the computer

Can anyone help with this issue as soon as I open itunes the computer crashes and restarts this happens also when I try to connect my iphone the operating system is Windows XP and all updates have been done for the OS.

  • ITunes crashed my computer 2 TIMES!

so I just spent $11 on music when suddenly, Mr/ Great and Fabulous Blue Screen error comes up while downloading. So I start cussing out and **** till the computer statrs up. So I go to my downloaded section and my purchased section. Nothing there. Look at my account. Yep paid $11 and got nothing. So now I said fine, I'll spend anouthere $11 and try again. I start downloading and BAM! blue screen. ***! now I just lost $22! look in itunes, nothing there. Now im not even gonna bothere trying to buy anything off of iTunes now.
So whats the deal with this. Dose iTunes not like Windows 7? or is it just screwed up enough to eat my money?

Since millions are downloading OK without blue screens, it seems to be something specific on your PC.
There's a way to troubleshoot blue screen problems. Are you up to it?
Apple should get you another download if the first one didn't complete, but first you need to get past that blue screen issue. Make it happen again, and get this information for troubleshooting
    - note down the numerical and text error message codes you get in the blue screen (ie 0x00andsoon, CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
    - if a file name is mentioned, write down its exact name

  • Itunes Crashes my Computer

I just downloaded the new itunes. When I try to open itunes a little window pops up saying "Updating iTunes Library". After getting 3/4 or so of the way loaded, it stops doing anything, my computer freezes and I am unable to do anything and I must reset my computer in order to restart it.
Any way I can find out what is going wrong or how to fix it? I am unable to do anything on itunes because it is always updating the itunes library, I don't know what I can try.

It's likely that one of the files in your library is upsetting iTunes.
Identifying the problem can be a bit tedious.
Close iTunes and drag itunes library.itl and iTunes Library.xml from the iTunes folder to your desktop. You will want them later.
Open iTunes and an empty library is created. Add files a bit at a time with File>>Add folder to lirbary. Eventually you should come to a point where iTunes freezes. This will tell you which folder contains the problem file.
Then you can start again adding one file at a time from the folder until you find the file.
Drag that file somewhere else on you PC.
It's probably worth continuing to add folders to make sure there are no other problem files.
Then, with iTunes closed, you can drag the original library files back into the iTunes folder.
The problem track will have an exclamation mark next to it and can be deleted.

  • ITunes crashes entire computer upon launch

Issue: Upon launching iTunes, the entire machine shuts down and restarts.
    Attempted fixes:
    1. Moved iTunes library our of iTunes folder and launched iTunes. Failed
    2. Updated iTunes to the latest 7.0.x version at the time. Failed
    3. Fixed permissions (several iTunes permissions were fixed. Failed.
    4. Dumped iTunes PLists and fixed permissions. Failed
    5. Updated today to 7.1. Failed
Dual G5 2.3 Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   512 KB L2 cache per CPU, 2.5 GB RAM Boot ROM ver 5.2.4f1

You may have a hardware problem or a seriously damaged hard disk directory. Try starting the computer from the installation DVD/CD. Run Disk Utilities and try to repair the hard drive. If it does repair anything, run Disk Utilities again and again until it gives the hard drive a clean bill of health. (It may be damaged more than Disk Utilities can handle.) If it repairs everything OK but you still have problems, run the Apple Hardware Test that should be on the installation disk. (Note: for that, you must use the original installation disk that came with the Mac, NOT an OS installation disk that you used to upgrade the OS.)

  • Itunes crashing the computer

    Hey all,
I just bought the Iphone 4 and I've come home to install Itunes to sync it all. I've downloaded the 9.2 version for windows 7. Everything installs fine, When i launch Itunes, It opens up fine, but after a couple of seconds of running, I get a blue screen of death.
Any idea on how to fix this??
    Thanks

When i launch Itunes, It opens up fine, but after a couple of seconds of running, I get a blue screen of death.
What alphanumeric and text codes do you see on the screen? (For example, 0x0000008E: KERNELMODE_EXCEPTION_NOTHANDLED.)
If the blue screen mentions a specific file too, let us know what that is called (for example, ati3duag.dll). Precise spelling, please. Include filename extensions like .sys or .dll.

  • ITunes is crashing my computer

Hi, I would really appreciate it if someone could help me with my problem. My laptop crashes everytime I open iTunes. Once iTunes load, my computer starts to lag pretty bad until it totally crashes. The only thing I could do is to hold my laptop's power button until it completely shuts down. I'm using a Vaio VPCEA12EG, running on Windows 7 Home Basic 64-Bit.
iTunes used to work just fine on my laptop. I just started to notice this problem when I played an mp3 song one day, prompting it to load on iTunes, thus crashing my computer. Once it crashed, I thought that maybe it was just an isolated case since it was just the first time it happened. Then, a few days later, I plugged in my sister's iPod shuffle. It then crashed my computer again for loading iTunes. My sister was resquesting for me to load songs on her iPod so I was forced to keep trying, and much to my surprise, iTunes kept on crashing my computer.
I tried uninstalling iTunes (trying uninstall-install method), but it also ends up crashing my laptop. It just gets stuck on "Configuring iTunes. 31 seconds remaining." So basically, I CAN'T uninstall iTunes from my system. I'm planning to get an iPhone 4 soon and I can't afford not to be able to use iTunes on my own laptop.
Here's a summarized background of my problem:
    1. iTunes used to work on my laptop.
    2. One day, it just stopped working. iTunes crashes my computer everytime I try to use it:
    *When I double-click/open the program.
*When I sync an Apple product.
*When I open a music file with iTunes.
    3. The only thing I could do after iTunes crashes my computer is to hold the power button until my computer completely shuts off.
    4. I tried uninstalling it, but it ALSO crashes my computer. Bottomline, I couldn't remove iTunes from my computer.
Has anyone encountered a similar problem? I hope someone can help me with this problem. I'm at my wits end as I can't even uninstall iTunes from my system. Any help or feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, mtglenwright. I was able to solve this problem. What I did was I uninstalled iTunes, then installed it again. But the catch is that it always crash the computer, right? What worked for me is that I LEFT THE COMPUTER ALONE UNTIL IT FINISHED THE UNINSTALLING.
Follow the order in this guide:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
The important thing is that you should leave your computer alone until it finishes each process. For example, when you click uninstall, just leave your computer alone until it finishes! As in DO NOT USE YOUR COMPUTER FOR ANYTHING. Do not use it to surf the net, do not use it to play solitaire, do not even move your mouse! It will take a LONG time. I actually left my computer overnight. When I woke up, I saw that it was able to uninstall iTunes! If you use your computer while you are uninstalling iTunes, your computer will most likely crash. I suggest that you do this at night when you absolutely don't need to use your computer for anything.
Anyway, this is what worked for me. I hope it will also work on your computer. Good luck!
