ITunes 8 cuts and pops audio

I first noticed while playing video podcasts that audio would stop and start randomly. At first I chalked this up to being a bad download or something. However audio continues to cut out in TV Shows I download and pre-existing music does it now too. My entire library is subject to random cuts in audio! Additionally when not playing anything an annoying pop can be heard through the speakers.
Online videos from youtube and such work fine, so it's not a hardware problem. Furthermore, external speakers and my MacBooks internal speakers exhibit the problem, so again it doesn't appear to be hardware related

Sorry that did not work for you. I did an internet search of this topic and every link I found dealing with this problem gave a variation of the same method I used in my post. Did you do a clean install or install over a 10.5 installation - I did a clean install on an empty hard drive, maybe that's why it asked me if I wanted to use ITunes for internet files. Exactly what types of files are you talking about - perhaps knowing that will help. The only other thing I found that you may want to try is in Safari > preferences > general, you can try deselecting "open safe files after downloading". That should prevent ITunes from opening any file you download without you specifically asking it to. Good luck.

  • Cutting and pasting audio tracks?

Im working with mpeg-1 files that have been converted with mpegStreamclip, everythings working great, but i haven't figured out how to cut and paste audio tracks in the timeline. I am trying to copy and use sound extracted from the muxed mpeg. I want to add this ambient sound to run under stills. Any suggestions?

    Hi Susan
    1. Set TimeLine to audio edit = three tracks.
    2. Is there audio on track two or three ? If not. Select clip with needed sound. Advance menu/Extract sound.
    3. Now there is a sound portion under the selected clip. Click anywhere (un-select) and now select
    the audio portion.
    4. Move the Playhead (line witrh yellow triange in top) where You want Your cut in the audio clip.
    5. cmd-T [apple-key + T] = a Cut
    6. Move the portion in under a still (or make a copy first and move that-one)

  • Help! Cut and paste audio artifacts!

    Hey all,
Using Garageband once I received my Mac, I was amazed at how easily I could take two tracks, merge them together, and there was no noticeable sound between the two tracks that were combined. This was a welcome relief, as the two previous programs (GuitarTracks, Cubase) I was trying on my PC were leaving the an unwanted sound change between the two; like the stopping and starting on a voice recorder.
With how great Garageband was making this cut and paste, stop and start process, I figured Logic would also make this rather expected process easy. However, once I started to cut and paste takes around in the program, I met with the same issue; audio artifacts due to the stop and start, cut and paste of tracks. So basically, I am left feeling as though I should do everything in one long take, which is absurd.
Please, does anyone know how to cut and paste tracks/takes and no longer worry about the present artifact between pastes?
    Thanks!

Ok, I will look into crossfading then!
The manual has been intimidating, and I have a deadline for what I am working on, so unfortunately time is against me. Things that I think would be called one thing are called something different (quantizing & flex-time for example).
I am using the newb version, Logic Express 9.
    Thanks for your help!
No probelm, I think what you're describing is noise when trying to overlay one audio file on top of another at a junction point and have them blend smoothly together. Is that correct?

  • Crackling and popping audio

Hi, I have a weird audio issue with Premiere Pro CS4. I create the project and timeline with the settings I need to use:
    AVCHD
    1080i
    30 FPS
    48 kHz Audio
I import my clips (.m2ts files) with no problem except "The file was busy, and couldn't be updated" in the error panel. When I play the file in either the preview or source monitor, the audio has some weird popping/crackling going on. I have played the video files in other programs other than Premiere and have had no such issue. I've tried exporting the clips using Adobe Media Encoder CS4 as different file types, but the popping is there also. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

I have found a workaround that is annoying as all-get-out but WORKS to eliminate the clicking and popping.
The Sony camera comes with software Picture Motion Browser (PMB). Right click on the clip in PMB and choose Convert to MPEG. The .mpg result will NOT feature the clicks and pops in the audio. Open the file in Soundbooth and save the .wav file as a separate file; I actually prefer to convert the 5.1 file to stereo (in SB, "save as" brings up a dialog box in which 5.1 is the default. Change this to stereo and the soundtrack will not likely lose a whole lot (the typical camera uses a built-in pair of microphones - just HOW are you getting effective rear-surround, etc.?) but if placed on the Audio 1 track (which is not possible with the standard .m2ts associated audio file) it will display an optical image of the track and be much more malleable than the original, inscrutable version.
This conversion also allows me to use Soundbooth to normalize the audio (I do a lot of video of small theater and opera companies). Simply unlink (right click the video/audio combination on the timeline BEFORE doing any editing, choose "unlink" click in white space and then click on and remove the original garbage that masquerades as an audio track, then drop in the new one.)
I have a very strong sense that Adobe tech support knows full well that there is a problem and stonewalls tremendously when asked for a solution. They would much rather make us jump through repeated hoops (such as ftp-ing huge files and then having the complaint ultimately ignored) than admit that this part of their software is not ready for prime time.
In general, what happens to audio from AVCHD sources is very unsatisfactory. I have had numerous instances where the software has "given up the ghost" and simply not finished laying down a sound track, leaving the end of the file silent. Again there are workarounds (usually putting the clip into a brand new project works but WHY should we have to do that?)
I hope the next iteration of PP has a lot of thought put into this problematic but potentially extremely useful format.
OH...I almost forgot...after you're done, and have spent hours of computer time making the MPG conversion...don't forget to delete the .mpg files. They are useless since you're using the .m2ts video file and you've extracted what you need, i.e. the audio. What a waste of time instead of Adobe just fixing whatever the mismatch (and it's likely a mismatch of something) that causes the crackling. I can't tell you how annoying it is to hear a click in the minute of, say an oboe or violin solo!!!

  • Buzzing and Popping audio after exporting from Premiere cs 5.5

When I export a video out of Premiere Pro cs5.5, the audio has non stop buzzing and popping. I have exported hundred of videos in the past (I am a videographer) and never had this problem. I usually export high quality mov files with h.264 codecs. I have not switched computers or set ups. I run a Mac 3.4 GHz intel Core i7, with an AMD radeon HD, and I save all my files through a 6 terra lacie external hard drive--I don't think power is the problem. I tried exporting at lower quality, but that didn't solve the problem. I have now tried 4 times... can anyone PLEASE HELP?! I need to get this video to a client...

I suppose you could do it that way, but if you export to soundtrack from FCP's sequence, it "round trips"... i.e. as you change things in Soundtrack, FCP get's updated with the changes.

  • Can Romanian Companies open a iTunes store and sell audio content  ?

    Hello dear friends,
I own a Romanian Company that produces audio content.
I wanted to know if Romanian Companies are allowed to create stores and sell their content online on iTunes.
Before posting this post, I tried to find the answer to this question, searching on Google and apple site, but without success.
If anyone can help me with some links regarding my problem, please post them as a reply or contact me directly on email admin @ cartiaudio.eu
Thank you very much, and sorry if I disturb.
    Best regards,
    Valentin

At this time there is no iTunes Store in Romania, so there is no place for Romanian companies to sell music tracks, movies or videos within your country. Apple has not said anything as of yet as to any plans or possibility to open an iTunes Store in Romania, so until such time as Apple is able to open an iTunes Store in your country the answer is, I'm sorry to say, "no", not if you wish to sell within Romania.
If you are interested in releasing your content in other countries where there are iTunes Stores, though, contact Apple via their web page for iTunes Marketing. You'll probably want to read their FAQ first.
    Regards.

I also have this problem. Itunes 10.5 downloaded and installed ok, but appears to have wiped by audio and video drivers.
System restore brings them back, but removes itunes.
I have tried installing Itunes then reinstalling the drivers to no avail.

Default Clicks and pops, audio dropouts
I don't know if anyone else has this problem, but it's driving me crazy. I can't have any other program open while running soundtrack pro, even Activity Monitor, without getting clicks and pops and the occasional audio dropout. These issues are not present in the audio file -- they are digital artifacts that seem to only be an issue in STP.
The multitrack project I'm using was created from a sequence in FCP, and when playing the original sequence in FCP, there were no audio problems.
It doesn't appear to be an issue with my amount of RAM (2GB) because Activity Monitor was showing over 70% free. The processor (2.66 Intel Core Duo) doesn't look like it's being taxed all that much. Is there some kind of buffer setting that I should change? It's obnoxious. Every time I use some other application (Mail, Firefox, Acrobat reader etc.) I have to restart the computer before opening up Soundtrack again.
Also, has anyone noticed that it takes a loooooong time to save a project?

I notice quite a bit of issues with RAM as well. I just went up to 7 Gig to have some extra for the OS and my project just hit 3.7G of RAM which of course STP couldn't handle and it wont save and sometimes beach balls.
So, I've split my project into two projects for now and will continue to do so even more if the memory footprint keeps increasing. There is some really poor memory management happening related to duplicate clips. Hopefully they are aware of it and do something OR figure out how to use 64-bit memory space like EXS in Logic.

The figures you mention only make sense on your intranet.  Are you still using the same wireless router.  The verizon one is somewhat limited as far as max wireless-n performace.  For one thing it only has a 2.4 radio.   I like many people who wanted wireless-n performance before they even added a wireless-n gigabit router, have my own handling my wireless-n network.

  • Strange Problem - iTunes audio clicks and pops when connected to internet

    Hello,
I have a very strange problem.
When I go to play a song in iTunes the audio clicks and pops. Not an uncommon problem I know, but here is where things seem to get strange.
I'm using iTunes on a laptop so I have a little switch which allows me to turn off my wireless adapter thus disconnecting me from the internet.
If I'm connected to the internet the audio clicks and pops but if I'm disconnected the audio plays smooth as it should.
The problem arrived out of no where i.e. no changes made to the laptop like installing drivers or programs.
I'm completely lost at what to do and after weeks of searching online I just had to ask to see if anyone here can help me.
    Thanks

Since writing this article I read that there is a problem with the airport update for tiger 10.4.11, which is exactly what I'm running. This is a pretty serious issue because I can't even listen to streaming music off the internet (via my firebox) without major clicks and pops. I wish I turned my updater of when things were stable

  • Upgraded to iTunes 6.0.5 sound now clicks and pops.

I've been using iTunes 6 happily up until yeasterday when I was prompted to upgrade to 6.0.5. I did this and now the sound of all of my purchased music is like an old scratched vinyl LP. At regular intervals there are clicks and pops in the music.
This did not happen until I upgraded. Strangely if I play the same tracks in QuickTime Player rather than in iTunes they pay without faults. I've tried changing settings to Safe Mode (waveOut only)and it makes no difference to the quality of the playback.
So, is there any way to revert to the old iTunes installation or is there a fix for 6.0.5?
FWIW, QuickTime Player isn't much of a solution since it doesn't support playlists.

just checking. have you tried working through the other possibilities (apart from the QT sound out settings) from this document?

Firstly restart router and AppleTv after unpowering to see if that helps - may or may not but quick and easy to try.
Connection via ethernet or wifi?  If wifi are there any new devices in the house which may be causing interference or new neighbouring networks?  If feasible try to eliminate wifi issues by using an ethernet connection.

It also happens when i am scanning photo's and editing them not sure if that helps. I am at a massive loss in why this is happening i have tried rolling back audio drivers and what not any solutions?

hi i just like to say i had a similar fault though i would be surprised if it causing yours, but you never know,my fault was my laptop lid, [9 months old] it contains the mic ,and when the lid was in a certain angle crackles could be heard worse when i had my external sound card in, it was a faulty membrane [ lid to body] easily missed by engineer because it was the same angle all the time it happened, good luck, PS you English is very good
