ITunes 8 does not automatically advance to next track in album or playlist

iTunes 8 was recently installed for me by the company on my company laptop. This was done automatically by LANDesk. (We call this being LANDesked. I was forced by LANDesk to reboot my computer twice yesterday, but I digress.)
iTunes does not automatically advance to the next track in an album or playlist, either in list view or grid view.
List View: I can play any song in an album by double-clicking it or by selecting the track and pressing the play button. When it gets to the end of that track, it does not automatically advance to playing the next track. Pressing Ctrl-Right stops the current track and does not play the next track. The Next button is active and it, too, stops the current track and does not play the next track.
Grid View: Play Album button appears to be active but does nothing.
Is there some setting I'm missing that was set to do this in iTunes 7 but not in 8?

Thanks. That fixes the problem. I'm an idiot.
I thought the check boxes were for selecting which tracks get synced to my iPod or iPhone. I must have unchecked them all (before the installation of iTunes 8) when I was trying to figure out how to sync a 2nd computer (this one) to my iPhone.
I can't find anything in the iTunes help about this necessary fact for playing your albums and playlists. If you look on the Index tab of the help, neither check nor uncheck are found in the list. If you search for check, you eventually find, amongst all the pages, that you need to have tracks checked in order to burn them to a CD and to import them from a CD, but I find nothing about checking to play tracks. Also, the help is very confusing on the difference between selecting one or more songs and checking the check boxes of one or more song. These seem to be used interchangeably occasionally.

  • I had to reinstall itunes and now when I plug in my ipod itunes does not automatically come up so I can log in, how do I fix this?

I had to reinstall itunes and now when I plug in my ipod itunes does not automatically open to my library or where I can access the itunes store.  What do I do now?

Open iTunes and connect your iPod. Select your iPod in iTunes from the Source list. (I'm assuming this still works, although you didn't indicate if it did or didn't.) Make sure the box is checked to Open iTunes when this device is connected. You should be all set!

  • ITunes does not automaticly start on connecting iPhone.

As above really, when i connect my iPhone 3G iTunes does not automaticly come up and sync the phone like it used to.
I now have to connect the iPhone and them click on iTunes.
Any ideas how to change this back, i've checked the iPhone settings in iTunes and 'Automaticlly sync when this iPhone is connected' is ticked.

If you go into itunes preferences, click on devices - make sure that the disable automatic syncing for iphones and ipods is not ticked.

  • ITunes will not proceed to the next track in playlist

...if the computer is unplugged and running on battery power.
I run Windows Vista, and have had no issues like this for the ~2yrs I've had this system.  If the PC is not plugged in and iz running on battery, my power settings are set to go to screen saver after 3 minutes.  In the past, iTunes would keep playing music with the blank screen, continuing on with the playlist.  Now just recently, once the screen saver kicks in, iTunes just stops at the end of the song.  I can hit a button or move the touch pad to do away with the screen saver, and without further prompting (hitting "play" or anything) iTunes will start right up again with the next song.  iTunes does not have this issue if the computer is plugged in.  This issue presented itself before I upgraded to the latest version of iTunes, but has continued after the upgrade.
I can't find anything in the software settings that seem to be responsible.  Neither am I sure what would be responsible in the computer settings, since I haven't changed them and it appears to be an iTunes problem.
All of the songs in my playlists are "ticked" and continue playing just fine if the computer is plugged in, even once the screen saver kicks in.  I realize a simple solution would be to extend the time on my screen saver when operating on battery power, but I shouldn't have to do that.  Any suggestions?

  • Playlist of Podcasts does not automatically move to next Podcast

Creating a Playlist of Podcasts does not appear to work the same as a Playlist of music. For Music, on the iPod i go to Playlists menu, and from there, with a particular playlist selected, i press Play on iPod, and the Playlist starts, and it says 1 of 100 (or whatever). With a Playlist of Podcasts, does not appear to me to behave in same way. From the Playlist menu, if i press Play on the iPod with the Playlist name selected, it does not start. I must press center button on the iPod to go down to the actual list of Podcasts in the Playlist. Then, i can select one to play. When it plays, its says 1 of 1. And, it does not move to the next Podcast when the first Podcast finishes.
Can somebody help me out? Is there a way to create an actual Playlist of Podcasts that plays one after another, just like a Playlist of music cuts? Am i missing something? Its real tough in the car to select a new Podcast when one finishes, so i had hoped this problem was solved by making a Playlist of Podcasts, but so far it appears to me to not be solved. Thank you. Tom.

Just for anybody else's info if you read this, it was only necessary to turn shuffle off on the iPod. Didn't have to check/uncheck any other checkbox. This was great! Thanks for the pointer!

  • ITunes does not automatically sync to iPod

When I connect my iPhone4 or iPod Classic to my mac, they will not automatically open iTunes and sync.  The iPhone automatically syncs with iPhoto only.  I have tried resetting my ipod and iphone and reselecting automatically sync iphone from the iphone screen in iTunes.  I have also repaired permissions with no change.
What else have I missed to make these things auto-sync again.

    Hello pib1617,
iTunes Match can be enabled on your iPod Touch via Settings -> iTunes & App Store.
Turn on iTunes Match. Go to Settings > iTunes & App Store. Sign in if you haven’t already.

It's still on an album that I played weeks ago.
Can Iget it to update with each new track?
    Thanks.

I am not sure however I suspect live view is for viewing the page you are working on. You would have to open the other page to see it in live view. The browser on the other hand is doing what it is designed to do. I jump back and forth all the time from live view to the browsers I have installed.

  • ITunes does not automatically sync when iPhone is connected

I upgraded to an iPhone 3g and I am unable to select the "Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected" option. It is greyed out in the iPhone Summary Tab in iTunes. I would like to automatically sync when I connect the iphone to my mac. How can I get this option available to me?

At the iTunes menu bar, go to iTunes > Preferences.
Under the Devices tab, is "Disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods" selected?

  • ITunes does not automatically start up when iPhone is connected.

Usually, iTunes and the camera options started up when my iPhone was plugged in. Now, only the camera options start up, and iTunes doesn't. It recognizes my phone when i turn on iTunes, but how come it doesn't automatically do it anymore?

I had the same issue with Windows Vista. I would plug in my iphone after the new Itunes update and Windows would say "found new device" and try installing drivers. It would then report it failed. I looked under device manager and saw that it was listed as a camera device. I followed the steps found in the following url, and now my iphone is synching. I hope it works for you.
