ITunes 8 messes up display adapter

I have bought an iPhone and had to upgrade my iTunes (which was ver. 7.0.2 and worked just fine). So I upgraded using Apple Upgrade tool. After I restarted the system screen turned 65K colors 1024x769 and poped up a messageth at new hardware found. This hardware was VGA compatible device. I tried to uninstall it and install drivers for my display adapter (which was Intel GMA900). It didn't work. Restarts, drivers updates don't help. I restored the system and tried to install iTunes manually. Result is the same. It messes up my screen resolution and colours (that is noticeable, who know what else is broken).
I am guessing it installs its own drivers that conflict with existing ones.
How could it be fixed ?

I also am having the same problem.
Computer fine. Successfully load iTunes 8.x. Reload. My display adapter has been uninstalled. Only successful way back to "computer fine" is to use System Restore.
I have attempted to upgrade my driver for my display adapter using ATI's page and some other websites "driver update" packages, but eiter I am doing something wrong or there is something wrong with the package or my computer.
Anyone have any thoughts?

  • Cover Flow - Display adapter drivers

Hi there, I know a lot of people have posted about this problem but I am wondering if anyone can help me out.
I am unable to use cover flow on my pc. I have made sure I have the latest itunes and quicktime. As far as drivers go this is my sticking point. I don't know if there are newer drivers for the display adapters. I have been to the manufacturers website (S3 Graphics) but it seems that it has been discontinued with no further support (I am not sure I am looking up the right drivers anyhow). The display adapter I have is S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR. The driver date is from 2003 (version 6.0.0.0).
Can any techie person help me out here. I would love to get cover flow working on this pc.
    Thanks in advance

You transfer the purchases to the computer you use to sync the iPhone.  You can use a thumb drive or an external HD, etc.  Read this: iTunes for Mac - How to copy purchases between computers:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1373

  • Mini DisplayPort to DVI + DVI to VGA Display Adapter, will it work?

    Hi,
I have a MBP, and I have just purchased an apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter.
I want to connect it to a VGA port.
Can I buy an Apple DVI to VGA Display Adapter and connect it to the connector above.
Will that work? Any one with experience who could advise me on that?
    Thanks.

This does not work, because the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter has a DVI-D port that transmits only digital signals. VGA uses analog signals.

  • VGA Display Adapter doesn't fit

I have a Intel Core 2 Duo imac and recently order/received the apple VGA Display Adapter-Gen ACCS to hook up another monitor. The problem is, it doesn't fit in my imac. The Apple store specifically says it is designed for Intel Core 2 Duo. What is the problem? Do I need another device to hook my 2nd monitor up?

    you need this adapter: http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9320G/A
make sure you are plugging in the correct way.

  • Multiple monitors on laptop: iTunes crashes upon display lock

I have a laptop running XP Pro with an external monitor attached as an extended desktop. When I use iTunes (6.0.5.20) and lock my screen for any reason (close lid, screen saver activates, etc.), iTunes freezes and throws up an "Unsupported Display" window - or at least tries to: it appears in the taskbar but can't be viewed, opened, or closed. Only upon killing it (along with iTunes) can I continue to use my computer.
Anyone have a fix? I'm not the first to run into this; see for example:
    http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?postid=743115
    Thanks.

I have a desktop with multiple monitors, and I have had the same sorts of problems. For me, iTunes 6 would display a dialog box that says "Unsupported Display" when I unlock the screens, though I was able to see it and dismiss it and life was good. Now, with iTunes 7, I can see that it tried to display an "Unsupported Display" dialog, but it crashed as well...

  • ITunes no longer displays CDs after latest install

I've seen similar older questions, but  I haven't seen an answer that works yet.
I Just installed latest iTunes SW (12.1.x?) on 2/28/15.  Now iTunes does not display (or ask to display/import) a CD when I insert one (or have one inserted).  (My preferences are still set to ask to import a CD when inserted.)  iTunes has the same issue with both of my drives.  Windows Media Player can play CDs from either drive just fine - so its not a problem with the drives.  When I run iTunes diagnostics, iTunes recognizes my drives and gives them both  'green' status... however - they still don't show up in iTunes (when CDs are in them).  iTunes seems to be working fine other than this.  (I'm able to sync to my devices, play songs, etc.)
There's an articles I found on trying to repair 'missing drives' (iTunes for Windows: Optical drive is no longer recognized, or "Disc burner or software not found" alert after install - …)  And I tried the steps here even though its not exactly the same issue.  (I removed than 'reinstalled' the latest Gear driver; I verified I don't have either of the  afs.sy, afs2k.sys conflicting drivers.)
    I'm running Windows-7 64-bit.
I have not tried to uninstall/reinstall iTunes... [yet].
    Anyone having the same issue?

Thank you so much for your responses.  I greatly appreciate it.  I wish Apple was as responsive as you.  I also wish it was easier to find out how to actually file a bug report with them.
My first PC was back in the 80's.  I made sure to have a 5.25" floppy drive since 3.5" was still new.  It was a fancy PC back then, with the 3.5" on my A: drive and 5.25" on B:....   Styling.  The PC I run iTunes on now is about 4-5 years old, (about 25 years newer than my first one) and has up-to-date BIOS, Windows 7, etc.  I built it myself with whatever was pretty much top-of-the-line at the time.
I don't doubt that even Windows 7 still has some ancient A;/B: drive issues lurking about.  I was nervous about that when I changed my optical drive letters to use them a month ago.  No other software, including Windows Media Player, had any issue, so there didn't seem to be a problem.  I feel like I'd ripped a CD into iTunes since I changed the drive letters, but I must not have.  Unfortunately I updated iTunes right before trying to import a new CD I just bought, which led me to believe the update was bad... especially after seeing several 'similar' issues from other users who updated to iTunes 12.1.1.4 (including your original comment).  I suppose my bad, for not fully checking out using the old reserved drive letters when I changed them.
I still consider this an Apple iTunes bug (even though I'm sure there's plenty of blame to share with Windows).  Since ALL my other software is fine with the drive letters there's no reason iTunes - as big as it is - shouldn't also be.  AND there's no reason iTunes shouldn't warn about this when Run Diagnostics is run from iTunes.  Run Diagnostics DOES recognize the A:/B: drives, but does NOT report any error on it.  This would have been no issue at all if their diagnostics software identified that iTunes still has an issue with the historic drive letters instead of just reporting that everything is OK.
Hopefully Apple browses through these forums.  I 'think' I found a place to report the BUG to them last night, but they don't make it easy to find that through their contact pages that kept bringing me back to the phone number web page.  (Sorry for the rant... I'm just frustrated cause I wasted so much time on this, and even more time on my previous issue with iTunes stealing some music from me that I had purchased and saying i didn't own it any more even though I still have all the receipts... I'm really about to give up Apple completely - I already moved to Amazon for digital downloads due to Apple's music theft.)
Anyway I'll consider this issue closed when Apple fixes it (either by accepting the old reserved drive letters, or by updating their Run Diagnostics)... in the meantime, I have an easy, though undesirable, workaround in using alternate drive letters.
Again.  Thank you for your help.  Your responses helped push me to find the real issue and a workaround.  I truly appreciate it.

  • HP Slate 500 and HP HDMI to VGA Display Adapter (NP031AA)

The specifications page for the HP HDMI to VGA Display Adapter (NP031AA) (Link) doesn't list the HP Slate 500 as a compatible device in the campatible products list (Link).
Do these two products work together?
What VGA resolutions can I project using this cominbation of products?  Am I limited to 1024x600? or 1024x768? or does it support displaying higher resolutions?
I'm thinking about making a purchase but I don't want to get the adapater if it isn't going to work.
    Thanks,

Yes an HDMI to VGA adapter will work fine. Keep in mind it will not carry audio but neither did your old vga connection so I am assuming it is not a problem.
You would find an HDMI to VGA at any Best Buy or you can order on one amazon.com such as here:
    http://www.amazon.com/BestDealUSA-Adapter-Converter-Laptop-NoteBook/dp/B007PLL4CK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8...
Connect the projector and use the Windows key at the lower left of the keyboard and the p key at the same time and it brings up a "projector" console that lets you easily switch from laptop to projector to laptop + projector.

  • Win 8.1, Clean Install, No AMD Display Adapter Found

I have a C55D-B5203 AMD basec Laptop. After a restore from backup failure, I had to do a clean 8.1 install. The recovery partition was damaged. Only the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter is found, not the AMD adapter. I have tried to install the Catalyst based driver, but that also doesn't detect the A600 adapter. What should I try next?

Essentially all the drivers and utilities at that site need to be installed for the laptop to operate as designed - and the order matters. You can stuggle with that if you have the time. I don't and would restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media.
If you failed to create recovery media, obtain it from Toshiba. Scroll down to Get Recovery Media here
See the instructions in the section Restoring from recovery media, which begins on p. 49 of the User's Guide.

  • VGA Display Adapter to HDTV

I purchased a VGA display adapter from Apple. I want to connect my iBook to a HDTV with HDMI interface. What cable do I need to connect the end of the adapter which appears to be a serial connector to the HDTV? Thanks for any assistance.

I would use the Apple mini-DVI to DVI adapter and then get a DVIU to HDMI cable from a local retailer. They are also available online from a ton of places - and probably at a lot lower price.
There really is no need to involve VGA when you would need another adapter to go from VGA to DVI, then the cable to go from DVI to HDMI. I would take that adapter to your local Apple Store and see if they would do an exchange for you.

  • Ancient ADC to mini display adapter

I would like to connect my (old) 17" flat panel studio display to my Powerbook Pro. Maybe all I need an adapter? The display male connector uses a single cable for all functions (power, USB etc) it is rectangular with rounded ends (.35" x 1.22). Part of the rectangle has 30 pins arranged in 3 rows of 10, the remaining part of the rectangle has a blade contact surrounded by 4 round pins. The round pins are all the same size. The total round pins is 34.
I see an adapter that is close, but its connector is a little shorter and has 3 rows of 8 pins (24) and no holes for the 4 pins that surround the blade contact. The Apple store people said this was an early version of the Apple ADC and adapters for it had been discontinued.
Any suggestions for hooking this up would be much appreciated. I consider myself a skilled constructor of kluge ups and posses excellent soldering skills, if it comes to that.

If the display uses ADC (Apple Display Connector)
    <http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/09/AppleDisplayConnector.jpg>
you will need a DVI to ADC adapter

  • Trouble loading Mac driver for Display Adapter (connecting Mac to flat screen TV)

    Howdy:
I'm trying to connect my Mac (OSX 5) to a flat screen TV.  To do so I just bought a USB 2.0 to HDMI® Display Adapter w/ Audio (1920 x 1080). The mini CD containing the DisplayLink software drivers that came with the unit won't fit in my Mac CD drive. I then tried to download the correct driver from the DisplayLink website, "DisplayLink USB Graphics Macintosh Driver" which appears to be appropriate for OSX 5 (at http://www.displaylink.com/support/mac_downloads.php). This proceeds through the installation steps, then bombs out with the error message that "The following install step failed: run preinstall script for DisplayLink software. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."
In the hopes of finding a compatible driver, I looked for an earlier version of the driver on the DisplayLink site, but couldn't find one.
    Help!

Your 20" 2007 iMac has a mini-dvi video out.  Forget about using usb and installing drivers and just use a mini-dvi to HDMI adapter and an HDMI cable instead.
    Mini-DVI to HDMI Adapter
Then connect your audio line out (headphone) to your TV's audio in and you should be set to go.

    OK, I understand better.
Otto42 has made a javascript to make a list of albums without art.

Download the first one to your PC and rename the file extension from .txt to .js

About finding small artwork so you can get bigger files, no idea. I do not like big artwork in each MP3 file.
