ITunes 8 no longer asks for verification before downloading?  Why not?

I recently downloaded and installed iTunes 8 on my new laptop, and one of the first things I noticed was that whenever I clicked to download a song, it happened immediately, without asking me if I was sure I wanted that particular song.
I thought this was a good thing, until I slipped on my touchpad and ended up downloading a song I had absolutely no desire to have.
So, my questions here are twofold--- 1, is there anyway to get rid of that song and get my money back? It's only a single song, but it's a single song that could be used elsewhere.
And two: how do I toggle it so that iTunes asks for verification before downloading again? Apparently, I can't be trusted with my iTunes money otherwise...

edit - and you can reset the warnings, too

  • HT5858 Why does my iPad and iPhone ask for verification when downloading free apps

    What does my iPad ask for verification when trying to download free app from App Store

    You are required to provide credit card details to download apps be it free or paid.
    Nothing will be deducted from your credit card if the app is free.
    There will be a authorizing hold of US$1.00 to verify your account information. It will be credited back to your account later.

  • HT1911 ask for password before downloading

    Just Downloaded IOS6. Notice that iTunes now doesnt ask for password when I download new apps or update existing apps. Is there anyway I could turn on the password again so that I will have to key in my password before downloading paid apps?

    How do i change my security question? I tried to buy music on itunes and it asked for verification i can not answer the security questions correctly...

    Reset Security Questions
    Frequently asked questions about Apple ID
    Manage My Apple ID
    Or you can email iTunes Support at iTunes Store Support.
    If all else fails:
      1. Go to: Apple Express Lane;
      2. Under Product Categories choose iTunes;
      3. Then choose iTunes Store;
      4. Then choose Account Management;
      5. Now choose iTunes Store Security and answer the bullet questions, then click
          Continue;
      6. Sign in with your Apple ID and press Continue;
      7. Under Contact Options fill out the information and advise iTunes that you would
          like your security/challenge questions reset;
      8. Click Send/Continue.
    You should get a response within 24 hours by email.
    In the event you are unsuccessful then contact AppleCare - Contacting Apple for support and service.
    Another user had success doing the following:
    I got some help from an apple assistant on the phone. It is kind of round about way to get in.
    Here is what he said to do and it is working for me...
      a. on the device that is asking you for the security questions go to "settings", > "store" >
          tap the Apple ID and choose view"Apple ID" and sign in.
      b. Tap on payment information and add a credit/debit card of your preference then select
          "done", in the upper right corner
      c. sign out and back into iTunes on the device by going to "settings"> "store" > tap the
          Apple ID and choose "sign-out" > Tap "sign -in" > "use existing Apple ID" and you
          should be asked to verify your security code for the credit /debit card and NOT the
          security questions.
      d. At this time you can remove the card by going back in to edit the payment info and
          selecting "none" as the card type then saving the changes by selecting "done". You
          should now be able to use your iTunes store credit without answering the security
          questions.
    It's working for me ...I just have to put in my 3 digit security pin from the credit card I am using.
    Good Luck friends!

  • HT1491 I am being asked for verification by answering two questions but I have not input answers yet! How do I bypass this?

    Wanting to purchase an app for the first time. Am being asked for verification: answer security questions. Prob is I haven't seen questions before - therefore, not answered them! Says to contact support if I have forgotten answers.. Brought me to this page so ... Any ideas?

    Were you not presented with 3 questions and given the choice to provide the answers to those questions recently as part of Apple's new security requirements?
    You should probably contact iTunes support if these are not questions that you can answer.

    I am trying to add a game to my sons I touch pad. It is a free game. It asks for verification of password and credit card info. Every time, it tells me that my time has expired. Help.

    It asked me that too.Don't worry and just put it in. Itunes doesn't charge unless your son buys something. The password happens to me all the time. Credit card was only once. Just make sure your son knows not to buy anything without permission so he doesn't accidently charge you something.

  • Is it normal for CHASE to ask for documentation before giving a decision on their Southwest card?

    I applied for the Southwest card by CHASE and I received a letter in the mail this week asking for verification of my date of birth to be mailed to them before a decision can be made on rather they will approve or deny my application. Is this normal?  Has anyone else ever experience this? If so what was your outcome? I would think this is a good sign and; an approval is coming but I’m not sure.

    Thanks FinStar, would you happen to know if this means a “ approval" is coming my way since CHASE wanted more information?Sure, this is definitely pending approval once you supply the docs they requested.  An item to keep in mind, be patient on the verification process since it can take a few days or a week or so.  If you have a Chase banking relationship, stop by the branch and have the banker fax or scan the documents and have them forward to the card services verifications department.  Otherwise, be sure to fax them the info or snai-mail as requested (get receipt confirmation).

  • Repetitive asking for verification on App Stores

    I've faced a lot of issues with the iTunes App Store, and then faced the same with the new Mac App Store. The Stores keep on repetitively asking for verification of payment by entering the security code on the back of my card. No matter how many times I enter it, it still asks for it. I also failed to identify a certain pattern according to which it asks for verification. Sometimes it asks when accessing the Store from a new device, and sometimes it asks for it for an absolutely no good reason. I'm puzzled.
    But what really upsets me is that many times it won't even accept the verification although I'm sure that all the data entered is correct and valid, leaving no reason for disapproval. When I try it later, all of a sudden, it works, leaving me puzzled again, but happily this time. Does anyone have an explanation for that?
    Also, I have been trying to purchase Pixelmator on the Mac App Store for some time now. Every time I try it asks for a confirmation to buy. When I click "Buy", the app's icon drops into the Dock and nothing happens. When I hover over the icon it reads "waiting", but never starts downloading. Does anyone know why? I know this app had the highest revenue during the first 20 days of the Mac App Store. Could there be a problem with the particular sever hosting it? Other software downloads fine, only Pixelmator doesn't!
    Thanks.

    Hi and welcome.....
    Make sure your security code and zip code match your bank records.
    Launch iTunes then from the menu bar click Help / iTunes Help
    Type in: "Security code* in the search field on the right. In the results under Support Articles click:
    "iTunes Store: My credit card's security code or zip code does not match my bank's records"
    Follow the instrucitons there.
    As for Pixelmator. From the iTunes menu bar click iTunes / Preferences then select the Advanced tab. Click: *Reset warnings* and *Reset cache* then click OK. Then from the menu bar click Store / View My Account then click Sign Out.
    Launch the Mac App Store. Try purchasing the app. If you still have problems you can email Mac App Store Customer Service here.
    This being a user to user forum, Mac users helping other Mac users, we couldn't tell if it was a server issue or not.

  • Im trying to buy a movie on itunes but it keeps asking for a credit car instead of using the money on my account

    im trying to buy a movie on itunes but it keeps asking for a credit car instead of using the money on my account

    OH MAN! I had the same problem for so long! I was trying to get as much information and try as many different ways as possible. None worked for me and I am guessing none worked for you either. I will try and help you out! I hope this works for you!!!
    Click on your Apple ID > Type in your password > Scroll down to Purchase History > Click on it > If your account has red numbers higlighting a balance. You need to pay that first. Then you are hopefully free of that stupid security code crap! I hope this helped you!

  • After installing Mt. Lion, Mail no longer asks for a password, even though I set preference for using a password.

    After installing Mt. Lion 10.8.2, Mail no longer asks for a password before opening messages, even though I tried to set preferences for using the password. Help!

    In Mail Preferences, Accounts item: I tried to delete the password (but that did not save). I got this idea from some Mail Help item that I cannot seem to find again. I cannot recall how I did it in Snow Leopard, but I had it set to ask for a password that was used solely for Mail. It would not download anything until I entered that password. Note: I am not on a network; just the single user of the MacPro. Thank you for any guidance you might be able to offer.

  • HT1498 Hi i'm Dave and it is asking for verification and my account has $25.00 still on it.

    Hi I have AppleTV and use a iTune card. Trying to watch a movie but it is asking for verification of my account and I have $25. left on my card.
    I don't see where to verification is.

    All I can suggest to you is that you contact the developer of the app and tell them what trouble you are having and have them give you some guidance

  • I have money on my account, but it won't let me purchase any songs because of an old credit card asking for verification, so how do I get it off?

    I Have $13.60 on my itunes account from a gift card, but it won't let me purchase any songs because of a credit card I used to have on the account. There's no money on the credit card, and I want it to go away so I can purchase songs again.

    What exactly happens when you try to buy something ? If you've already removed the card from your account then iTunes shouldn't be asking for any details about it.
    If you log into into your account is the card still shown . On your computer's iTunes you should be able to edit your payment info by going into the Store > View Account menu option and logging into your account, and on your account's details page there should be a payment link.  If you are doing it on your phone then tap on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and tap on 'View Apple ID' on the popup and log into your account  - that should also give you a payments link on your account's page.
