ITunes 8 'odd non-responsive behaviour' when trying to log in to Store

Whenever I try and use any of the functions of iTunes 7.x or 8 and the iTunes store (e.g. signing in an account, attempting to create a new account) or enabling Genius in iTunes 8, iTunes becomes unresponsive in a distinctly odd fashion.
I can still access the iTunes store, browse music etc., but anything that requires authentication, it seems, causes the store to stop responding. Once thestore has decided to become unresponsive, I can't browse the store any further, but can still use the rest of iTunes (e.g. my own library...) The 'information window' (for want of a better word: where song information is usually displayed at the top centre of the iTunes window) shows "Accessing iTunes Store..." and the crosshatched progress bar, which then doesn't change into the solid progress bar as normal. iTunes can be used normally, but refuses to close, and requires Task Manager to kill it.
I'm running iTunes 8 on Win XP SP 2 (originally iTunes 7.x, which had the same problem -- I had naively thought an upgrade might fix it!). I've tried simple things like disabling the Windows Firewall, don't to the best of my knowledge have any other firewalls running, and have tried killing anything other than the vital system processes in Task Manager and the Windows Services Viewer thingy.
I must admit to being slightly worried: my new iPhone arrives in a few days and I'd quite like to be able to get the App Store etc running...!
(edited to add: I've tried running the iTunes network diagnostics, which crashed iTunes properly, to the point at which the whole program stopped responding and needed killing in Task Manager -- I'm sorry that's not going to be much use..!)

ive been having odd behavior for my itune store too. whenever i try to access it, all the info loads like normal but if i click on any thing it freaks out and all the info for the songs and everything just freaks out. it becomes like it was made by a five year old on microsoft word. there are no images, there is only a picture of a link of chain and one of the chains is broken. i can still read the title, the price and the artist but, they are all in a wierd font size.
i still have access to everything but i am reluctant to click on anything because i dont want it to spread to my itunes. this just started today and was working fine before
is there anything i can do about it and it it safe for me to do anything?

  • When trying to log into App Store my keyboard does not come up and it asks me to paste password!

It won't let me log in...because it ask me to paste my password...I have no idea why it just started doing this!

Quit the App Store app and reset the iPad.
Double click the Home button to show the screen with running and recently used apps. Each app icon will have a sample page above it. Flick up on the page (not the app icon) and the page will fly away and the app icon will disappear. This quits that app. Then reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • I'm trying to log onto app store, but I keep getting a message that my device or computer is unable to be verify. How do I verify it. However, when I use itunes, I have no problems in logging onto my account with the same apple ID

I'm trying to log onto app store, but I keep getting a message the my device or computer is unable to be verified. How do I verify it when the app store will not allow me to log onto the account even when I use my Apple ID, which works with no problem on itunes. What is up and how do I correct it now!

    Check your mac's Serial Number.
Some people have problems with missing serial numbers on their Macs and that's the message you get when this happens.
Click on the Apple at the top left of the screen, open "About this Mac" and click on "More Info". You should see a list with information about your Macbook Air. Check that on the Serial Number field you have your Mac's Serial. If you have "SystemSerial#" written instead then that's your problem.
You can re-enter your serial number if you have a USB CD drive, it's not very straightforward but I can walk you through it if you need it.
    Cheers

I keep getting an unknown error when trying to connect to the store. I ran diagnostics and it says secure link to itunes store failed. I've tried all suggestions from apple and nothing will work.
    Please Help

I received this email from Apple and this corrected the problem for me...  I only had to reset the iTunes cache
    1) Open iTunes
    2) At the top menu, click File > Preferences (iTunes > Preferences on a Mac)
    3) In the Preferences menu, click the Advanced tab
    4) In the Advanced menu, you should see a button that says "Reset Cache". Please click this button.

Itunes library .itl file is locked when trying to download IOS5 upgrade. Can someone help?

Usually when you get this problem in vista, it is to do with folder permissions.
The account you are using needs full control of the iTunes and iTunes Music folder.

  • Does apple iTunes pre authorize your debit card when trying to download a free application?

Does apple iTunes pre authorize your debit card when trying to download a free application?

This has been a constant gripe of mine. No, Apple doesn't pre-authorise for free apps, but your account must be "ok" to download a free app.
I use a pre-paid debit card for all my online purchases, simply to ensure nobody gets more than they're entitled to. But the only issue I've ever had is with Apple's pre-authorisation. Generally when purchasing an app, I'll check the balance on my card first to ensure I've enough. But inevitably Apple will pre-authorise €1.98. This sometimes has the effect of setting the debit card account into the red when Apple attempts to take the amount for the app. So I'm left with an app I haven't paid for (no issue there) and 2 unpaids on the card. The problem is that when my kids come to me looking for yet another free app, I can't download because my Apple account is not in order. A real pain.
The solution though is simple. Set up another account without a card and use that to download free apps until such time as I'm ready to put money on the debit card and sort out the account.
Basically, Apple shoots itself in the foot with constant pre-authorisations.
I've been onto support several times about this, but they seem to give stock answers tha don't address the issue. Oh we'll.

  • TS3297 My itunes constantly keeps spooling when trying to connect to the store. Obviously my internet is working fine, as I'm googling ways to fix?

Hi, I've purchased a new iPod Nano, and have downloaded the newest iTunes but when trying to connect to the store, it keeps spooling on "Accessing iTunes Store".  In case this was an 'update' issue, I then downloaded and older version, but I have the same issue.  My internet is working fine, firewall is set to allow itunes, I've changed the parental control, but nothing is letting me get to the store?

I got this error after upgrading to new version. After searching these pages for an answer and not finding a usable one, I simply quit and re-opened iTunes, and... voila! Problem solved!

If you are not using data and the iPhone goes to sleep, it will automatically drop the wi-fi, and will not reconnect until you wake the phone up. That is the way it is designed. The only way around that is to turn off cellular data while at home and on wi-fi.
Cannot answer the xbox question since this is an iPhone forum and I would have no idea.

  • MacBook Air (mid-2011) updated to EFI 2.9.1 - now password/trackpad doesn't work properly when trying to log in from sleep.

Hi, hopefully someone can help me with an issue I've had with my mid-2011 MacBook air.
It was running fine until I installed the 2.9.1 EFI update from the app store; I believe this fixes problems caused with the 2.9 update however since installing it I've now got a problem when trying to log in. This is what happens:
I close the lid or put it to sleep.
I open the lid and the login screen appears.
The trackpad is non-responsive and I am unable to enter my password as the keyboard is unresponsive.
I then set the machine to sleep, wait a few minutes and wake it up again - still unresponsive.
The only thing that works is to hold the power key down to shut it down and start it up afresh. This time I am able to move the cursor and enter my password.
Its was perfectly fine prior to the 2.9.1 update (and I've not installed anything else in the meantime) but since the 2.9.1 update the above login problem has happened.
This is my Macbook Air's system (10.9.4) info if its of any help to anyone:
         Model Name:    MacBook Air
         Model Identifier:    MacBookAir4,1
         Processor Name:    Intel Core i5
         Processor Speed:    1.6 GHz
         Number of Processors:    1
         Total Number of Cores:    2
L2 Cache (per Core):    256 KB
         L3 Cache:    3 MB
         Memory:    4 GB
         Boot ROM Version:    MBA41.0077.B11
         SMC Version (system):    1.74f4
    Anyone else had similar problems?

    Hi Roj,
Since the update, I have a different problem (when the laptop is in sleeping mode,  screen turned down, fan runs after a certain...)... Did not have time to contact support yet.
One member suggested me to visit: https://getsupport.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.action.
    Hope it can help...
