ITunes 8 on Leopard 10.5.7 won't play any songs

Hi,
So I recently backed up my whole computer (I was running 10.4). I did a fresh install of Leopard and then I copied all my songs to the new installation and let iTunes 8 discover the songs on my computer. They have all been successfully copied to the iTunes folder and I was even able to copy them over to my iPhone and they will play fine on that. But on my computer, they will not play. I just finished using Disk Utility and did a repair on the hard drive, but the songs still won't play. Please help. Thanks.

Alright. So that was kinda lame. I went to System Preferences and saw that the OS didn't even recognize that I had speakers! So I rebooted and now it works. Go figure.

  • Ipod Nano won't play any songs downloaded from MySpace pages...

My first generation Nano was initially sent back to Apple due to the battery losing it's charge to quickly. They sent me back what appears to be a replacement Nano and now this one won't play any songs downloaded from MySpace pages of bands, shared from friends (unprotected mp3 files) or otherwise downloaded from the internet.
Whats unusual is that any songs imported from a CD to the Nano play fine as do any songs purchased from iTunes. I know Apple has stated that any files the user wishes to play on their iPods will play as long as the format is compatible. (All of these songs in question played on the original Nano and the problems started when they said they fixed it and sent it back (although it is missing the engraving which to me indicates they gave me a refurbished Nano). My Applecare runs out in mid-October so I need to figure out what is wrong. I sent it back a second time and they told me they couldn't recreate the problem so they just updated the software and sent it back.
Someone suggested that some iPods have a part of the firmware activated (which Apple may have been testing) that prevents any non-ITunes store music or music no t off an original CD to fail to play.
When attempting to play downloaded songs from sites like Purevolume and MySpace the iPod plays for a few seconds then shuts down and restarts itself, all of these songs worked fine before Apple took it in for service.
    Any suggestions?

    Hello,
I have exactly the same problem. It`s so annoying.
I did a little bit research on this discussion board and this problem seems to be known for quite a long time. It`s confusing me Apple is not able to fix that prob or give customers quick introduction to resolve the prob.
I am currently on vacation in Florida and just bought the new iPod 30 Gig. I transfered already songs from my music cd. That worked fine.
I bought 2 music video files, synced them with no error to the iPod, but it only shows me a black screen when I want to start the video on the iPod itself. itunes plays the files with no problem.
Any ideas how to fix it??

  • New v7 won't play any songs any more

I was able to download and even use the new version 7 last night. However this morning It won't play any songs. I click on play and nothing happens. It shows the song and related items from the store but won't play. I don't know if it is related but I did have a msg when I turned on my computer this morning. somthing about not enough memory when application looked at space 1000 or something like that. I clicked Cancel (which said it would debug the program) and it let me continue. What can I do? I had no problem before. is there anyway to go bad to the old version?

I don't know why but everything works fine now after I reinstalled the sound driver for my laptop.

  • The new Itunes 6.0 won't play any songs

Since i downloaded the new i tunes software, neither quicktime nor itunes will work. itunes opens but won't play any of my songs, and i think it has to do with quicktime.when i click on quicktime, it won't open and says that there is an error. maybe 7.0.3 did not download, but i've tried downloading it again, and the itunes repair wizard appears, not changing anything. is there anyway to fix this problem, or can i go back to itunes 5.5. please can someone help me. by the way its for a pc.

  • My 80GB classic won't play any songs!

I got the classic several days ago and have about 1000 songs on it and counting of which are from many different sources: albums, music purchased online from itunes, and a couple of burned cds...
Now, the problem came very gradually; at first (and i believe it first happened when I was playing an "On the Go" playlist in my car whilst driving via a Philips tape cassette mp3 converter) my iPod decided to stop playing songs after only going through about 1/5 of the playlist (maybe 6 songs) and went to the beginning mark - "0:00" of the song played just before the one it had last played before stopping. After about 24 hours of using my iPod quite often after the incident, it has now ceased to play any songs, no matter what i choose. (It sits at the "0:00" mark of the song - and videos btw - and if i try to scroll to the middle of the song or video, it sits at that mark i scroll to, but still reads "0:00".
I am really bummed out as i cannot find any helpful suggestions on this site - and i have looked most everywhere. Please, any slightest bit of knowledge bestowed upon me concerning this problem or anything similar would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks in advance.

Also having this problem with a few of my songs. Is there a solution?

  • Ipod won't play any songs

Ok, had this problem for a couple of week's now and am at my wit's end on it. My 5th Generation video Ipod will not play anything. With both songs and videos, I select one and it shows the play icon but just sits there with the time at 0:00 almost as if it were paused. I can fast forward through the song but wherever I tell it to play it just sits there. No sound or anything.
The weird thing is that I can play the songs off of my Ipod in Itunes or hooking it up via USB to another device like my xbox 360 just fine. It's just the Ipod itself that won't play anything.
I am using the latest version of Itunes and have tried both resetting and completely restoring my Ipod several times, all with the same result.
Has anyone else run into this or have another solution that might help me?
    Thanks.

  • IPod won't play any songs...stuck on 0.00

Just recently (maybe after the latest iTunes "upgrade") my iPod now will not play any tracks. I have completely re-set it and redownloaded all my music to the iPod. All the functions of the iPod work fine (scroll wheel, folders, etc). But no matter what song is chosen, it's just frozen on 0.00 and doesn't play. It does play fine when connected to iTunes.
    Somebody out there, please help!!!

I have an 80GB 5th Gen iPod with the same symptoms.
I had a talk with an Apple rep and they said this is not normal behavior (obviously) and they offered to have it repaired/replaced. We did some troubleshooting over the phone and narrowed it down to the hard disk. For me it seems like this happens when the iPod comes out of deep sleep. I press play and it shows Now Playing but does not forward the play head nor does the time elapsed change. And I don't hear anything either. Only way for it to play is to put it back to sleep (hold play) and then turn it on again. You can feel/hear the hard disk inside spin up. Then the iPod will play.
However this problem only happens intermittently. I was not able to reproduce the problem over the phone but the Rep said they would have a look at it anyway. So if you're debating whether to call tech support... don't. Give them a call. Good Luck.

  • My itunes won't play any songs

My iTunes libraries display in their seemingly correct positions in File Explorer -- Music>iTunes>iTunes Music -- but not in iTunes -- and I consequently can't play them.
Any help on "linking" my iTunes libraries and songs to iTunes would be appreciated.  I have already imported my playlists from an external hard drive, and they display with the correct names in iTunes.  I'm familiar with File>Add Folder -- I just don't know whether to choose This PC>Music, This PC>Music>iTunes, or This PC>Music>iTunes>iTunes Music -- if this is what I should do to "link" my iTunes libraries and songs to iTunes.
Let me know, if possible, whether to check (1) Consolidate Files, (2) Reorganize Files, (2) Keep iTunes Media Folder organized, or (4) Copy Files to iTunes Media Folder when adding to library.  Thanks!
    iTunes version:  ll.5.5

  • Ipod skips songs and / or freezes, won't play any song

Listening to my ipod I skipped to next track, but no sound came. Looking at display I noticed that the ipod had skipped about twenty tracks. Tried going back to track I wanted to play but ipod wouldn't play it - time display stuck at 0.00 for a few mins then skipped to next track, same problem. Went to completely different track - same problem.
Checked on itunes - all songs played fine, both those listed under my home hard drive, and those listed under the ipod's drive on itunes.
Resynched ipod - same problem - initially one or two songs would play, but when trying to play the specific track I first tried, it would skip through the next twenty or so tracks then stop playing anything.
Tried soft reset - same problem.
Tried restoring to factory settings - same problem.
Took to apple store genius bar - they made no attempt to work out what was going wrong, just replaced ipod as it was still under warranty. Got home and resynched all songs - same problem!
This suggests it is a problem with the song files, but I don't understand why they play fine on itunes. Also, the file type (mp3), bit rate, sample rate, file size, etc is exactly the same in both locations.
Have tried all troubleshooting tips on this site, and all software is latest version.
    Any ideas?

    Good night, Chris.
Well, it may have lots of reasons: changing files from original folders, uninstall/install codecs in other programs, errors on iTunes Sync service, deleted .dll's, viruses and etc...
To easier the work for you, you can do it in all your iTunes library or make a backup of your files and reinstall iTunes (enjoy to update it, if you haven't yet).
Try "consolidate files" also, it can avoid that iTunes search from the files in wrong places, and automatically organize your .mp3/.aac files.
In a last tool, try to change the iTunes import preferences.
Once you are in a high step level, give a glance on this things on:

    Michael,
Thanks. I haven't mixed down the audio or checked the number of tracks in Prefs. Good points.
As far as a mixdown goes, I'll definitely give it a try, though I wonder whether or not the tracks will be recognized during mix down recording - given that you can't hear either of those segments in playback. Just have to try.
Re the preferred number of allowed tracks - I'll go check as soon as I send this off, but I'm not sure that applies in this case, since the two Channels containing the segments that are pinked out are not in additional tracks. I should have mentioned that other audio clips and segments on the same Channels in the SAME tracks ARE heard in playback. As are two additional track in the 2nd Sequence. It's only when the two sequences are joined that the pink tinted segments can't be heard. Within the sequence the same audio cuts playback as they should. Thanks again &
    Best regards,
    David

  • I upgraded to the latest iTunes 10.2.2.12 and now it won't play any music. I can do everything else, except play music. I'm on Windows 7. Any ideas?

I upgraded to the latest iTunes 10.2.2.12 and now it won't play any music. I can do everything else, except play music. I'm on Windows 7. Any ideas?

i had this problem and finally figured it out. all that you need to do is go to your start menu and click on computer. select your main drive, (local drive) c usually. Next open the users file follow by your user name file, which is just like it sound it is a file labled as whatever your name is as you have it on your computer. Then you open up the AppData file. Next open the Roaming file. After that open the Apple Computer file followed by the iTunes file. Now you should see the folder labled iTunes Plug-ins folder. Now just Delete that folder. After that go to your iTunes and play your music.
If for some reason you don't see the AppData file you need to go to the upper left of your screen on select organize. a drop down menu will appear and you need to select folder and searc options. a small folder options window will appear. in this window you need to select the view tab. you need to select the show hidden files, folders, and drives bubble. now hit apply and then ok. that will allow the AppData folder to be seen.

  • Updated itunes and now it won't play any of my music, updated itunes and now it won't play any of my music

i updated my itunes, and now it won't play any of my music. i tried deleting it and reinstalling itunes, but it still is doing the same thing: whenever i click on a song, it looks like it's going to play (and my last.fm thing starts scrobbling it) but it just doesn't play the song, ever. it sits there, with the play button played. i am so frustrated with itunes, and i have no idea how to resolve this.

I have just updated my iTunes and it won't play any of my songs, It will say that it is but the time does not move along and the sound does not play. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it but it hasn't worked. What do I do?

    Hey B Noir!
Changing the 3D worked for me!
I am so glad that I ran across your post. I had been reading "solutions" to this problem all day, and most of them said to install/unistall/re-install itunes! No way! I knew there had to be an easier way, and you had it. Just a few clicks, and that was it.
    Thank you for your help!
    God bless.
