ITunes 8 prompts a reboot everytime I launch it

I attempted to do an update to version 8 this morning. First tried from iTunes. After the "update" I was prompted to reboot. Upon reboot, it told me that I had to reboot for changes to take place. Tried a few times...no luck.
Plan B. Uninstall and then reinstall from apple.com. Same issue.
Glad I tried this on the computer that I don't do my main sync. This has turned out to be a FIASCO.
Any way to fix this...?
<Edited by Moderator>

*OK I fixed this*:
Follow these steps until Apple fixes this or someone with more time figures out exactly what steps are needed and which are not needed:
*FIRST FOLLOW THE OLD STEPS:*
go to start menu --> run
type regedit, press enter
go to computer/hkeyclassesroot/
find pcast and right click it
click permissions
during the course of this you may get a message saying you cant change anything, but you can change who can change things. click ok on it.
click advanced, then owner tab
change the owner from administrator to whatever name you are using
click ok twice to get out of the pop-ups completely
right click pcast again
click permissions
click OWNER RIGHTS
by full control and read click the allow boxes.
click ok
You will need to do this potentially on every registry key under pcast. In my case it was these:
pcast
pcast/DefaultIcon
pcast/shell
pcast/shell/open
pcast/shell/open/command
Some of these Registry Keys did not show up until I fixed the permissions on the above Key, then opened itunes. Then a new key would appear and I would fix that folder.
The additional steps that fixed this new iTunes 8 issue was to then add the everyone account and give it full control on each of these keys. Once I did this itunes worked and loaded with no issues.
*IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST TIME* trying to fix this issue do this first:
Follow the old steps, and add the everyone group to the pcast folder with full control and see if that alone fixes it for you. Please let us know if that works and we can reduce the steps needed.

  • Itunes Keeps prompting to allow firewall connections on launch

I bought a new Mac Mini that shipped with Yosemite. Itunes is now prompting me every time it launches to allow it to access incoming connections via the OS X Firewall. I'm allowed it and allowed it. I'd also removed iTunes from the OS X file wall and I re-added it later. The app still prompts me. Over and over again.
    Anyone else seeing this issue?

Seems to be an old problem which had different solutions before Yosemite. I faced the same problem (OS X 10.10.3 Yosemite, Late 2014 Retina 5K iMac, iTunes 12.1.2.27) and solved it this way:
Go to Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences
    Delete the file com.apple.alf.plist
    Reboot the Mac.
Worked fine for me. Found this hint somewhere else.

this is what you need to do to exclude everything apart from desktop.
on time machine preferences, click on Options
click plus sign, on the new window, click macintosh HD
do a Control + A then deselect users then click okay
go to options again, plus sign, go to users, control +A then deselect your user account
go to options again, plus sign, go to your user account, control + A, deselect desktop
    start the back up.

  • Windows Vista configures ITunes everytime I launch it.... Help :-)

    So.....
Everytime I launch ITunes, Windows Vista configues it and reinstalls files....
I have checked the support pages and deleted a file as mentioned there, but it didn´t help the problem.
What can i do to sort this issue? Everytime I want to launch ITunes I need to spend 10 minutes waiting for Vista to configure and install.
    Please help

The "Program Files (x86)" is only installed for 64-bit systems.
If you have a 32-bit system, open "My Computer" and check the folders on your "C" drive for "Program Files" (No "(x86)" in the file name.)
Once you find the iTunes application file, right-click on it and select the "Send To" option. From the drop-down menu, choose "Desktop" to create a shortcut on your desk top. (Make sure that you have deleted any old shortcuts before doing this.)
This will get iTunes to launch quickly, but there are still functions that do not work properly - file associations seems to be one.

    Hey harikrishnandhk,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are having issue with your iPhone 3GS. You are definitely taking the correct steps, as you'll want to restore the iPhone in recovery mode. For information on doing so, see this article:
iOS: Unable to update or restore
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • I have changed my computer three times and I'm having trouble playing previously purchased/downloaded songs. itunes is prompting me for my user id and password everytime I click on those songs I had puchased. I had also changed my user id

I appreciate any help or assistance you can share with me. thank you very much.

Because too much time has passed I can't edit this into the prior comment, but here is the info regarding reverting to iTunes 11.0.2 (assuming you do have a time machine backup) from https://discussions.apple.com/message/22057703#22057703

    Repairing permissions doesn't fix it.
I reverted to the previous version, 11.0.2.
    1. Quit the new crash-prone iTunes.
    2. Delete the app.
    3. Restore v. 11.0.2 with Time Machine.
    4. In your iTunes folder look for a folder called "Previous iTunes Libraries", find the latest one.
    5. In the iTunes folder itself you'll see "iTunes Library.itl", delete it (or compress it and save a copy for later just in case.
    6. Copy the newest .itl file in Previous iTunes Libraries to the iTunes folder and rename it "iTunes Library.itl".
    7. Launch the older version of iTunes.
My crashing has seemed to have ceased with a revert to an older version. I noticed today that the newer crashing iTunes had been launched for hours but not playing anything, when I played internet radio it crashed within 5mins, fed up I reverted to an older version.
Btw, a simpler way to do this is to revert to older iTunes app, then hold Option when it launches and choose an older library.

Removing the SC Info folder as per the "Error 3001," "-42110," or "5103" section in the Specific Conditions and Alert Messages: (Mac OS X / Windows) section of the following document seems to help most folks reporting the iTunes launch 42110s:

  • ITunes 9 on 10.6 won't launch not properly localized for this language

I have run the iTunes 9 installer on Snow Leopard in the UK. It appeared to complete the install successfully. When I open the app it fails to launch with an error - That this version of iTunes is not properly localised for this language - please install the English version. Given I am downloading directly from apple.com/uk this is frustrating. Given other UK twitter users have successfully installed I think the problem is my Snow Leopard install rather than iTunes.
I have rebooted, installed other languages from the Snow Leopard install disk and tried to repair permissions. I have re-downloaded the installer from apple.com with the same result.
    Any ideas?

Hey all, obviously I have the same problems with my iTunes 9.0.1. I've tried un/re-installing it. I've tried removing the cache. I've read a suggestion to place a new Localized.rsrc file in this extension: 'iTunes.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj.' but have no idea how to follow it nor how to open the .rsrc file. I've tried searching for those folders but they don't exist in that order, and I can't figure out how to use the .rsrc file. I hope someone figures something else out soon. I'm not very tech-savy so any help would be awesome in a dumbed-down version.
I may just re-install an older version... the only problem is I'd have to re-create all the library content because it would be too old to read the library stuff I have now... GAH! I won't update anymore until I've read reviews. I've had too many problems with updating iTunes and Quicktime. Sorry, I'm venting. Help, please!

  • 'iTunes has encountered a problem' seconds after launching

aftr clicking on the iTunes icon, it opens on th taskbar, however, i can not click on it.
then seconds later 'Itunes hs encountered a problem and needs to close' appears and shuts it down.
    I have tried un-installing and re-installing.
    AppName: itunes.exe AppVer: 9.1.1.12 ModName: quicktime.qts
    ModVer: 7.66.71.0 Offset: 00009196
that is what is in the error report.
    Pleeaaaaaaaaaaase help me.

Hmmmm ... if there's nothing wrong with the QuickTime Player program itself, then I'm suspecting a content file problem with your iTunes. (iTunes uses QuickTime for audio and video playback, so a content file problem can cause a QuickTime reference to show up in the error report.)
Still, these things can be idiosyncratic, so it's probably best to attack it systematically. I'd try working through the following document:
[iTunes for Windows XP: Troubleshooting unexpected quits, freezes, or launch issues|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1421]
When opening iTunes in the new account, the iTunes Setup Assistant will run. Do not add files to iTunes when prompted by the assistant. Just let it open to a blank library (if it does open). The idea behind that is that if it is a content file in your usual user account that is causing the itunes errors, trhen if that file is added to the library in the new account, that might cause itunes to crash in there too. So you get a user-specific problem "faking" a systemwide problem, which can confuse diagnosis and treatment of the trouble.

  • After downloading the latest version of iTunes and updating my iPhone everytime I turn on my computer I get a message that reads: AppleSyncNotifier.exe - Entry Point Not Found. Does anybody know what this means?

After downloading the latest version of iTunes and updating my iPhone, everytime I turn on my computer I receive a message that reads: "AppleSyncNotifier.exe - Entry Point Not Found. The procedure entry point sqlite3_wal_checkpoint could not be located in the dynamic link library SQlite.dll" Help! Does anybody know what this means and how I can fix it? Thanks.

Yes.  I just solved the problem on my PC.  Here goes...
Issue:  My Windows7 computer was producing the pop up box with the error text as you described.
The Problem: You have another application on your computer that uses the like named .DLL file... in this case a DLL supporting SQLite on your local PC.
    Solution:
    1.  You need to use the Windows File search feature to look for the name "SQLite".  This will quickly locate the offending DLL in the other application.
    2. Decide which program you like the most, in my case "Mobile Me", and uninstall the offending application.
    3.  Uninstall Mobile Me.
    4.  Restart your PC.
    5.  Reinstall Mobile Me.
    6.  Mobile Me should sync at this point, but if not, restart the PC once again.
In my case, the offending program was my Aptana Studio development application.  I had recently the SQLite3 database to my Ruby On Rails configuration...
This is where the file was located:
    C:\Users\<USERNAME>\Aptana Studio 2.0\plugins\com.aptana.radrails.sqlite3.win32_3.5.7.1278709071\vendor\SQLite3.d ll
    I hope this helps,
    Ron

  • ITunes keeps prompting me to authorize my computer when I try to play a movie I rented.  Then it tells me my computer is already authorized and I'm stuck in a loop.  I've tried all the troubleshooting options but no luck.

iTunes keeps prompting me to authorize my computer then tells me it's already authorized and I'm stuck in a loop. The troubleshooting options haven't worked.  Any suggestions or does anybody have a phone number for iTunes so I can talk to a human being about this?
