ITunes 8 - random playing bug

Greetings,
if you try to play random song in playlist using space bar*, iTunes play only one random song (yes there are many more songs in playlist..) and after first song ends iTunes stop playing further. If you do the same while clicking on first song by mouse, it works. Using space bar makes iTunes choose first song randomly though... It worked in previous iTunes without problem.
If its not just my problem, it should be easily fixable.
*starting iTunes, picking playlist with randomizing on, pressing space bar

I have seen a few posts here and at Macworld about iTunes 8 stopping after playing a single song. I just tried this with shuffle enabled and disabled (sequential playback) and encountered no such problem. This appears to be a bug affecting a few users. Unless you wish to play songs in sequence, Party Shuffle is actually what should be used to playback music in random order from playlists. I am actually surprised that Apple has not removed the redundancy.
Does the same problem persist when you use Party Shuffle?

  • Itunes randomly plays music when monitor turns off?

I'm having the weirdest problem ever. If itunes is open, when I turn off my monitor, my itunes randomly starts playing music. This happens if my ipod is connected or not. It's kind of annoying. Is there a option that I can turn off this? thanks.

That's not a built-in feature. You must have installed some third-party software that uses motion sensing to control iTunes.

I have chosen random play after album, but iTunes stops after the 1st album is played. Worked perfectly in the previous iTunes version.

Many people have the same problem. However, there is little or nothing readily available to users. This problem has existed for two or more years. Does anyone have anything to offer about this disturbing problem?

Thanks for the suggestion kcell. I've tried both versions
9.0.115 and 9.0.124 and both fail with the policy permission error.
I also tried with and without your crossdomain.xml file but
with the same result. It looks like this file is intended for URL
policy, instead of socket policy. Recently Adobe separated the two.
When I run with the files installed on my dev PC, it does
work, which makes sense because the flash player isn't loaded from
    an unknown domain.
I did get one step closer. If a crossdomain.xml in the server
root exists and the socketpolicy file is loaded from the app folder
then the first two warnings disappear. The logs now show:
    OK: Root-level SWF loaded:
    https://192.168.2.5/trunk/myapp.swf
    OK: Policy file accepted: https://192.168.2.5/crossdomain.xml
    OK: Policy file accepted:
    https://192.168.2.5/trunk/socketpolicy.xml
Warning: Timeout on xmlsocket://192.168.2.5:843 (at 3
seconds) while waiting for socket policy file. This should not
    cause any problems, but see
    http://www.adobe.com/go/strict_policy_files
    for an explanation.
Warning: [strict] Ignoring policy file with incorrect syntax:
    xmlsocket://192.168.2.5:993
Error: Request for resource at xmlsocket://192.168.2.5:993 by
requestor from https://192.168.2.5/trunk/myapp.swf is denied due to
    lack of policy file permissions.
Which basically says, everything is okay, but you stay out
    anyway.
PS: I found the XML schema files here:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashplayer/articles/fplayer9_security_02.html
    and the socket policy schema:
    http://www.adobe.com/xml/schemas/PolicyFileSocket.xsd.
UPDATE: When serving up the policy file on port 843 using the
example perl script then the socket connection seems to be accepted
and the connect succeeds. After that flex hangs trying to logon to
    the IMAP server.

  • Is there a "replace files" bug in iTunes?  Plays fine in iTunes- not on Pod

Hello, all. Long story short, I'm re-ripping all my CDs at a higher bit rate. I'm going from 128 Kbps AAC to 192 Kbps AAC (variable bit rate.) Now I'm having issues.
So far, when iTunes asks me if I want to replace my existing files before I rip, I say "yes," but now I'm wondering if that's a big mistake due to a bug in iTunes. Why? Well, although the newly ripped album plays fine in iTunes and through my iPod (using it as a hard drive through the computer), once I disconnect my iPod and make it portable, the iPod will skip track #2 (for example) of a 9 track cd.
I've reset my iPod - no change.
I've deleted the album from my iPod and dragged it back on there - no change.
I'm trying to track down the root of the problem. The replacement file is obviously fine, and even plays in another media player. Someone said "replacing" files is bad because iTunes doesn't replace gapless playback information, and it uses old data for your newly sized files. Is that the root of my problem? Does iTunes have a "replace existing files" bug? It's the only thing I can think of. A solution would be to have iTunes re-analyze all my iTunes tracks for gapless playback and other data, but that doesn't seem to be an iTunes option. Any ideas? Re-ripping the cd is not an option. (But for all you whistle blowers, rest assured it was a cd I bought, so everything is legal.)

Have you updated your iPod and iTunes sofware?
most cases, iTunes can play these high quality songs, which is meant for newer mobile devices like  iPhones, iPod Touch, nano and iPad, which the older iPod cant play, but only playable with iPod classic sofware version 2.0.4
most likely it is an incompatible song format, read this Apple support article.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1334?viewlocale=en_USet
If  your iPod software is version 1.1.2, then you have to use lower quality format.
Can you select the problematic song, and Advance -> create iPod version

That's consistent with all the tickboxes to the left of the tracks (in Song view) being unchecked.
Go into Song view and Ctrl-click one of the empty boxes to do a "global recheck".
If you can't see the tickboxes, head into your General preferences tab and select "Show list tickboxes" as per the following screenshot (it's for an earlier version of iTunes, but the boxes are in roughly the same place in the recent versions 11.x):

  • HT1349 iTunes randomly skips hlaf a song in the middle of playing them, how do I change this?

While playing a song, iTunes randomly skips to the next song. This only happens with cirtian songs and I'm using a pc if that makes a difference. Is there a setting somewhere where I can turn this action off? This does not happen with my other computer.
Can someone explain why this is happening and how I can it to stop doing that? Thanks

Now, is it synced via wireless or USB?
When I upgraded my 4 to iOS 7, I had that very problem. The phone said all my music was on it, but when I tapped on a song, it would show the icon as though it was playing and after a couple if seconds, it would skip to the next song.
Here's what I did: Reconnect and do another sync. Or, back-up your phone, do a restore and then trying syncing your files again.
    I hope this helps

  • My itunes music playing at random times

Right before walking into a conference room, my iPhone 5 starts playing my itunes music.  I did not have the iTunes app playing at all AND the phone was on silent.  Anyone experiencing the same thing, any fix?

That is not the behavior I am seeing. Itunes is just playing through a playlist and all of the sudden music just quits. When I look at the itunes controls, it appears to still be playing a song but no music is coming out. I have to pause and hit play and the music resumes. It is NOT an issue with the speakers as I have the music both playing out of my PC speakers as well as my stereo and music stops out of both of them. There is no activity (typing) being done on the computer when this happens. Sometimes it happens on the 2nd song and sometimes it gets through 5 or 6 songs before it stops.

  • ITunes Randomly Skipping to Next Track

Just upgraded to the latest iTunes (9.0.3), and every single one of my songs skips.
Mostly happening around the 10 second mark, but it has been completely random also. The song displays the full length, but will randomly skip to the next track. I have been able to drag to anywhere in any song and have it play, but sometime it will skip randomly after that.
I have never had this issue before, and have not found a solution. After exhaustive searching, I have found that this was a bug in iTunes 7, especially for Windows. Since neither of these things is true for me, I am very confused.
Nobody has yet provided a functional solution to this ridiculous problem, and other threads of this type have been locked.
I would like somebody to either give me a working solution, or for Apple to admit that it is a problem and release a patch, instead of locking threads and pretending it doesn't happen.
    -- Dakota

    Hi Dakota--
This is not a universal problem. For example, my iTunes will play for hours and hours and it will never skip.
I noticed in some posts you made to the other, already answered, thread that your iTunes library is on an external drive. And that you've had some problems with the files where you get error -36, which is a disk I/O error.
That could be caused by a problem with the external drive or the FireWire cable. First thing I would do is try a different FireWire cable. Also make sure the cable is seated firmly in both the computer and the drive.
If that doesn't help, post back and I'll help you see if we can figure out if there's a problem with the external drive.

  • Okay, the iTunes 8.2 bug that I had on my iPod Touch is back with my iPhone

I have new iPhone 3GS that I picked up this morning at 7 am. I love it, but the iTunes 8.2 bug that is being thoroughly discussed in the iPod Touch forum is back and affecting my iPhone 3GS. I did read one random post that a Apple Tech Support person said to unplug the internet (disconnect your internet) before plugging it in. I don't know why, but it worked and makes me wonder if this will also work for iPod Touch users. Weird, but it is definitely a nice work around for now!

I got it again. I plug in the iPhone into my computer and it is telling that it thinks it is a camera because it is trying to launch Canon CameraWindow, MS scanner, Picasa3, etc. Then iTunes says, "An iPhone has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please, disconnect and reconnect the iPhone, then try again." Yes, I tried again, and completely uninstalled iTunes and all things Apple to only re-install it. I am at my whits end again!

  • Grey screen in iTunes when playing downloaded movie

Since the update from 10.7.5 Server ed. to 10.9 Mavericks on my Mini-mac I have problems with the playback of downloaded iTunes movies. The only thing I see is a grey screen. This not only is the case for playback with iTunes, but also for playback of DVD's.
When I want to play the movie on my AppleTV (from the iTunes library on the same mini-mac) it's no problem. On my iMac: same. No problem.
So it must be something on the mini that handles the playback of copy-protected material. I think I need to remove something and get it installed anew, probably something Quicktime related.
Is there anyone that can help me out?
    Berry

  • Where is the random play option in the new version?

Where is the random play option? I want to play all my music through random but you can't seem to make that choice in this new itunes. Anybody figure it out?

Could it be Controls > Shuffle?

  • ITunes "keeps playing" once all search results have been played

I'm not sure if this is an error or how iTunes was intended to operate but I find it INCREDIBLY annoying.
If I perform a search and, say, 5 songs are returned I expect iTunes to play those 5 songs and STOP. Yet it does not do this - it just keeps playing the next song in my library that would normally follow the last song played, even though that song does NOT match my search, and is NOT displayed on screen.
This is ridiculous. iTunes continues playing songs that fall outside my search parameters - this is an awful logic hole.
How can I fix this? I keep waiting for each new version to correct this problem but it keeps going on. At this point I have to believe this is just more horrible and backwards apple-logic.

Update: I was just playing with this more, and it's worse than I'd described. I searched for an artist - we'll just say "Artist A". Two songs from two albums matched my search "Song 1" and "Song 2"
So on screen, I see two albums, each album displays on song. If I hit Play, I expect iTunes to play these two songs, back to back. Sounds logical right?
It doesn't. It plays "Song 1", and then instead of playing "Song 2" it plays whatever song comes after "Song 1" chronologically in my iTunes library. I'd essentially have to wait for iTunes to just play every song in between Song1 and Song2 for it to actually get to, and play, Song2.
    This is horrible!
How can I fix this? Is this bug related to the Window version only?

  • Cannot find info on using random play and regular play symbols

cannot find info on using random play and regular play symbols

Guess I need to clarify my question.
I am using iTunes for Mac.  At the top of the window, below the title of the song are two symbols which I am assuming are (on the left) for sequential play and (on the right) for shuffle.  Below, next to the name of my playlist is also a symbol for shuffle.  I cannot figure out how these relate and how to change the selection.  At the moment the shuffle symbol in the song title window is blue and the "sequential" symbol at the other end of the play bar is gray.  It is shuffliing thru the play list.
Why is there no explanation available for the use of the icons and features on the screen?

  • After loading the new OS now my songs do not play correctly. Titles are wrong on songs and it just doesn't play certain songs in random play or even if you select them individually. What's up? Kind of frustrating!!!

After loading the new OS my songs do not play correctly, is anyone else having this issue? Titles are wrong on songs and it just doesn’t play certain songs in random play or even if you select them individually. What’s up? Kind of frustrating!!!

I had the same issue.  In fact I posted it yesterday, but didn't get any replies.  I physically synched my phone to PC iTunes.  on the PC, under the phone/music tab, I unchecked the synch music box and then the apply button to remove all of the music from my phone.  Then once that synch finished, I went back and selected all music, and synch music and apply to put it back on to the phone.  So far, I haven't had an issue again, but I also haven't listened very long.  Hope this helps!
