Itunes 8 update

When checking for update from itunes 7 system states itunes 8 is available, click to download and nothing happens. Downloaded from apple site but when click to install only gives the option of repair or remove itunes. Any ideas (if I remove and reinstall will all my manual album artwork and playlists remain?) All help appreciated and I realise this may well be a silly question...
Thanks

Hi Jonathan, from another Jonathan
Before you try to either upgrade, or uninstall your previous version of iTunes I recomend that you backup/copy the following two (2) files. Both are located in the iTunes folder under your 'Music' folder, I'll give full paths below. The two files are;
1). iTunes Library.itl
2). iTunes Music Library.xml
Also make a copy/backup of the 'My Albums' folder - this is where the music files themselves are actually stored, if you told iTunes to move added music files to it's store. Also this is where any purchased music will be stored, as well as your album artwork.
The two files mentioned above are what iTunes uses for remembering all your Playlists and other settings for your iTunes experience. Taking a copy of these two files before beginning an upgrade, or uninstall, of iTunes will save a lot of hassel if things go wrong!
The iTunes folder is stored in slightly different places depending on whether you are running Windows XP or Vista;
On Windows XP the default location is;
'C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\My Documents\My Music\iTunes'
On Windows Vista the default Location is;
'C:\Users\UserName\Music\iTunes'
Where UserName is your Account Name, used to log into Windows.
These two files should not, normally, be touched by uninstalling iTunes, BUT things have been known to go wrong! Having a copy of the two files mentioned means that you can always copy them over the corrupted, or deleted, versions, if that happens, and then automatically restore all your playlists and settings in one easy operation.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

    Thanks for your reply. My Mac is running 10.5.8: it's 4 years old.  When I try to update the OS software, I'm told there are none available.
    Be careful - there's a difference between update and upgrade.  Your machine is saying there are no updates available, meaning no later versions of OS X 10.5 (Leopard).  However, you can very likely upgrade - at least to OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard), and possibly then to OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion).
    Updates are free, but upgrades cost a bit.  That's the dirference.

    iTunes app on the iPhone is for purchasing music.
    The fact the iPhone starts playing when connected to your car stereo is a function of your car bluetooth system.
    Consult your car dealer/bluetooth system manual.
    I have attempted to delete all music from the device (so there would be nothing to play), but 1 song remains in the iphone memory and I have been unable to delete that song.
    Connect the iPhone to computer and select it in iTunes.
    Click the Music tab and uncheck Sync music.
    Then click Apply at lower right of iTunes.

    this just started w/ me yesterday.  I was running 10.5.3, and nothing changed - the message just appeard out of nowhere.  I update to the latest iTunes 10.6 but the message is the same.
    Sounds like probably some sort of Library file corruption.
    The two options available in the message box are "Download" and "Quit".  Download is useless because I'm already running the latest.  Quit is pretty useless.
    I was going to just create a new Library and re-import all my music.  Of course, all my iPhone sync settings are going go have to be recreated.

    iTunes is updated and works fine and I am able to log onto my account. When I go to purchase a song, I get the error message "Your Apple ID has been disabled". I've tried different methods: changing passwords, making a new account with another email address, and emailing itunes tech support. I am curious as to how many others have been experiencing the same issue. When I googled the error, it seemed like it was happening extremely often with many people.

    My apple Id is [email protected]

    My Iphone 4 is telling me the same thing and I believe I figured out what the problem is.  I had some fraudulent charges on my itunes account, so I call my bank and disputed the charges.  Right after I did that, I started getting the message "Your apple ID has been disabled."  I just realized today that the charges are not fraudulent, they are "in app purchases."  One of my daughters downloaded the game Top Girl which is FREE, but in the game Top Girl you use money in the game to purchase things.  It just so happens that the money you use to purchase things is real money MY Money!!!.  My daughter thought she was using play money in the game and had no idea she was using real money.  She spent $106.00 buying stuff.  Now I have to call the bank and tell them to release the hold and pay Itunes.  I'm hoping this solves the problem.  Here is the link to learn how to disable "in app purchase" on your iphone or ipad.

    After downloading the latest version of iTunes and updating my iPhone, everytime I turn on my computer I receive a message that reads: "AppleSyncNotifier.exe - Entry Point Not Found. The procedure entry point sqlite3_wal_checkpoint could not be located in the dynamic link library SQlite.dll" Help! Does anybody know what this means and how I can fix it? Thanks.

    Yes.  I just solved the problem on my PC.  Here goes...
    Issue:  My Windows7 computer was producing the pop up box with the error text as you described.
    The Problem: You have another application on your computer that uses the like named .DLL file... in this case a DLL supporting SQLite on your local PC.
    Solution:
    1.  You need to use the Windows File search feature to look for the name "SQLite".  This will quickly locate the offending DLL in the other application.
    2. Decide which program you like the most, in my case "Mobile Me", and uninstall the offending application.
    3.  Uninstall Mobile Me.
    4.  Restart your PC.
    5.  Reinstall Mobile Me.
    6.  Mobile Me should sync at this point, but if not, restart the PC once again.
    In my case, the offending program was my Aptana Studio development application.  I had recently the SQLite3 database to my Ruby On Rails configuration...
    This is where the file was located:
    C:\Users\<USERNAME>\Aptana Studio 2.0\plugins\com.aptana.radrails.sqlite3.win32_3.5.7.1278709071\vendor\SQLite3.d ll
    I hope this helps,

  • No content shows up in iTunes after updating - Apple's fix doesn't work!

    Hello,
    I have a iPod Classic 80gb and Itunes(last version). I don't know what the heck happens, but my library is cleared everytime Itunes is updated. Every time this happens I try replacing the Itunes library (date).itl file back into the Itunes folder, but my itunes appears not to create these "previous itunes library files" automatically anymore.
    Yesterday I downloaded my podcasts, today when I started up itunes all my content was gone. No podcasts, no music, no tv shows, nothing. It's been happening for the past 6 or more months. So last week I finally found the troubleshooting at http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1967 . I did exactly as it said and I thought I would be free of this harassment forever. But it happened again.
    Can someone explain to me why this **** thing keeps happening? Why is it that my "previous itunes libraries" folder only shows really old library files, not a single library file named after 2009-10-10, even though I use iTunes every day.
    PS: everytime I do the workaround proposed at the knowledge base (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1967), when I plug my iPod it says its synced with another library, and I have to let it erase and resync everything.
    What am I doing wrong??? Apple is a big company, I hope this is my fault and not apple's, but it seems that many people are experiencing the same thing.

    Fair enough. Got my fingers crossed for you.
    Another user posted the same issue a few hours ago: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2298480&tstart=15
    Yes, it's unpleasantly common ... in some cases, folks lose their libraries *every time* iTunes is shut down. The other main offender in this sort of regard is ESET's Smart Security and/or NOD32 antivirus, although that is usually also associated with a "cannot save library" message nowadays.
