ITunes 8 upgrade and Windows Vista

I tried installing the iTunes 8 upgrade and have not been able to get it to install correctly. When it completes the installation, it says that it needs to reboot my system, so I tell it to go ahead and reboot. Once the system is rebooted, I click on the iTunes icon and iTunes starts to try to re-install again. This happens repeatedly. Any thoughts?
Thanks

After you restart the computer, when you try to open up iTunes, try getting it from your Start > Programs menu. If you can open it that way, drag it from that menu to your desktop to re-create your shortcut. Perhaps it was somehow linked to your installer file rather than your application .exe file?

Go into your Documents\Music\iTunes\ directory. Move the files called "iTunes Library.itl" and "iTunes Music Library.xml" to your desktop. Then, you should be able to open up iTunes. If so, click your File menu and choose Import (if running iTunes 8 it's File > Library > Import Playlist) and choose the iTunes Music Library.xml file that's been placed on your desktop.

Whenever any Apple products are sent in for service Apple makes it very clear that it is not responsible for personal data left on those machines, and not backed up elsewhere. I'd imagine (although I'm not 100% positive) it would work the same for software. You might be able to find more information in Apple's legal documentation at http://www.apple.com/legal/. This is a user-to-user forum, so I'd be surprised if many people knew the specifics offhand.

The iTunes downloads have always been free. Regarding the 2.1 update, specific to an iPhone or iPod touch... if you have an iPhone you don't need to pay for the update. Same for the iPod touch, 2nd generation (the one released this past Tuesday). If you have a 1st generation iPod touch for which you've already paid for the upgrade, the iPod software update files will remain on your computer, even if you uninstall/reinstall iTunes. In the event that you need to re-download a 2.x version, simply act as though you are going to pay for it again with the same Apple ID used to purchase it the first time, and iTunes will automatically prompt you to download it again for free.

  • ITunes 8.1 and Windows Vista...

I recently made the "upgrade" to Windows Vista, and iTunes 8.1, after getting my iPod repaired.
I'm having serious issues syncing my 30GB iPod video with iTunes.
I have gotten either a BSoD or and error reading "The iPod 'xx' cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found."
I've done some reading up and found that Vista has been having problems with the latest iTunes.
Is anyone else facing this problem, and can it be helped?
    I'm seriously getting frustrated.

I am having the same problem. I have a brand new HP Pavillion laptop, about 24 hours now, and I cannot get itunes to show either my ipod or my iphone. When I plug in my ipod, it does show on the ipod that it is syncing, but nothing is showing up in itunes. My iphone shows nothing, not even that it is powering. I know the computer has something to do with it, as every time I plug in my phone, the computer says it has to download the driver, even if it just did five seconds ago. If anyone is having this problem, or has had it and can resolve it, please help.
    Thank you.

  • Photoshop CS6 upgrade and Windows Vista

I own Photoshop CS5 and Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit platform. Can I upgrade to CS6 ? Your upgrade ad and recent published info says that only platforms using Windows XP or Windows 7 are upgradable. What happened to Windows Vista ?

It works on Vista, even if it is not officialyl supported. Just be prepared that things like OpenGL support, tablet drivers etc. may act funny and some features may not work at all.

  • ITunes 1.6 and Windows Vista 64bit Help

I have not been able to use iTunes properly since I got a new computer with Vista 64bit. I can play music, browse iTunes Store and watch Video, but the problem comes when I try to attach my iPod Touch or try burning a CD. With the last version, it seemed that 64bit windows Vista was not supported so I just decided to wait for an upgrade. I download iTunes 1.6 from Apple.com and try to install and it says I need the 64bit iTunes Installer. Did I miss the download for it?
This is the error message I get...
This iTunes Installer is intended for 32-bit versions of Windows. It is Highly recommended that you download and install the 64-bit iTunes Installer instead.
All I need is a Link to the 64-bit Installer because I cant find it.

What's supposed to happen is that when you go to the download page, http://www.apple.com/itunes/download, it's supposed to recognize that you're running 64 bit Vista and then you get the 64 bit iTunes installer. But I've seen reports that FireFox users are only getting the 32 bit installer page.
Can you try that link with IE? And do you get a different installer then?

  • Problems with iTunes Cover Flow and Windows Vista

I just recently upgraded my computer to Windows Vista Home Premium (32-Bit). I preformed a clean install and every program I have tried so far (Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142, Age of Empires 3, Halo: Combat Evolved, Microsoft Office XP, etc.) have worked fine, however, iTunes is having some problems (7.4.1.2). First, cover flow does not work right. It can get it to run, but it is super slow. It ran very smoothly on Windows XP, now on Vista it skips every over album cover and is very choppy. It seems like it is running at 3 FPS. Also, none of my videos will play in Quictime or iTunes. The strange thing is I can play the same videos in VLC and GOM and they work great. I just went to nVidia's web site and installed the latest drivers and my games runs fine so I don't think it is a driver issue but I am not sure.
    Any advice I would appreciate,
    Thanks

Well - you're not alone. I've got a very high-end video card (nVidia 8600 GTS OC), and am running Windows Vista Ultimate. Every aspect of 3D acceleration works great with my machine (World of Warcraft, Battlefield 2142, Half Life 2, Counterstrike: Source, etc.), except iTunes/Quicktime. I pretty much have the same issues: videos (all - .mov, .mp4) play absolutely horribly in both applications, and cover flow is slow/choppy at best. I think it's an iTunes/Vista issue that Apple has yet to touch, so I'm just waiting for January (I'll buy my first mac, a macbook pro, then), because for the first time in my life, I'll have an installation of iTunes that functions properly. I love iTunes. Just not on Windows machines. It leaves something to be desired.

  • Need some help please, itunes 7.1 and Windows Vista

    Hello,
I've got a bit of a problem here with itunes and my ipod nano.
Basically I'm using Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit and when I connect my ipod to my PC the found new hardware wizard pops up but can never find the ipod nano.
In disk management the ipod is showing up but in itunes its not.
Could anyone advise on this please?

A little update about this issue and it's good news. I've managed to get the ipod show up in disk management with the ipods name and when I open itunes and plug the ipod in, it pops up in itunes.
Heres it is just like it should be, a result!
    http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/1293/untitled1ln0.jpg
Basically what I did to fix this issue in Windows Vista was the following
1.Click Start type run in the search bar and then msconfig.
2.Click on the Services tab and "hide all Microsoft Services".
3.Click Disable All for all the non Microsoft services that are showing.
    4.Click OK
    5.Click Restart.
6.When your desk top loads up click OK for the msconfig menu which pops up.
7.Open itunes and connect your ipod.
It should now show it does for me.
Now follow step 1 again and load all services as your pc would start normally again and reboot, again your ipod should show up now as it should.
I hope that's useful if anyone else experiences the same.

  • Syncing my ipod (itunes 7.1 and windows vista)

Everytime I try to sync my ipod it says that I do not have enough write access and to check the permissions on my music folder. I am the computer administrator of course on my own computer and I've made it so all my music files are shared and all permissions are allowed. However it still says the same thing everytime, no music or videos will upload. So if anyone knows how to fix this or has had the same problem who has windows vista please help me.
    -thanks
Dell XPS 400     Windows Vista Home Premium

I think the problem is that if you have songs that are not in the itunes folder and they are in the root music folder in vista these are the songs that still have the WinXP file path for the songs listed in itunes. All my songs in the that folder had the WinXP file path. I changed them to AAC format and it put them in the itunes folder and they now have the right file path and that solved the write access error that I was having. I was able to upload all my songs after that.

    Hello,
I have been plagued with iTunes and Vista problems ever since i got it on my Pc over 9 months ago!!
I had hoped that a multimillion company like apple most successful in this nich of the market would want to keep its customers and provide us with up to date valid software but NO..... 9moths later same problem!

    My Thanks in advance!

iTunes is a free program - it doesn't make good business sense for Apple to hire people to troubleshoot problems on Windows hardware - they'd have to hire hundreds, if not thousands to remote in to PCs and spend time fixing this kind of thing!
If you are getting that message about data execution prevention, you need to get DEP turned off, come **** or high water.
How about turning off UAC, can you even do that?
And with UAC turned off, can you disable DEP?
    How to Disable UAC
Remember you can always turn these back on to keep your system "safe" - this is just a test to get iTunes working.

  • ITunes 7.6 and Windows Vista - Buying Ringones

I have bought and downloaded a Song to my Itunes library. I click on the song and from the "store" menu I click on "Create a Ringtone" it prompts me to login into my account if I am not already logined in and then it tells me that I have not agreed to the terms of service and to click "Ok" to do so. After clicking "Ok" nothing happens, and the prompt will always display when I try to "Create a Ringtone". I have scrounged through what seems like every menu option and I cant find anywhere to agree to the "Terms of Service".
Ive recently upgraded to Itunes 7.6, and Ive been able to create a ringtone in the past.

It seems the best solution to this problem involves calling Apple/Itunes support and having one of the "Itunes Admins" dealing with it. The Itunes Admin described the workaround involving having to download the "Song of the week" - free download and several other steps he mumbled over.
He did admit this happens to some user accounts.

  • ITunes 7.4 and windows vista

I have the same problem in my computer, but my OS is WINXP SP2, please help!!!

  • Upgrading to Windows vista means itunes wont detect my ipod?? Help please.

Recently upgraded to windows Vista. Big whopdeedo.
But anyway, when I plug my ipod in, windows tries to update drivers for it, but of course failas horribly.
However, this is having a knock on effect that means itunes wont detect my ipod. So, while my ipod recharges, I cannot sync it. Thus I can't add new songs and what-not.
    Please help.

Yes my ipod is jailbroken, but this has never proved an issue before.
Its not just itunes that now wont recognise my ipod, my other software wont either, and they used to work with the jailbroken ipod.
This all started after i synced a nano, then connected my ipod and a screen came up saying ipod camera connected.
I click on the camera icon in mycomputer and properties tab then selected take no action in the events tab.
This hasnt resolved my issue, and the ipod still comes up as a camera in mycomputer, the only difference being im now not prompted to choose a program to view my photos with.
This is really getting up my nose, as for the second poster, sorry that article was no help at all.
    Please someone help me

  • Is there a fix for the incompatibility between itunes and Windows Vista?

I'm having a problem with itunes and Windows Vista. When I download itunes it disables my dvd drive. I have found a fix for that by deleting some registry items, but when I do that itunes is disabled. Does anyone know of a solution to this problem?

    Hey Don,
What exactly happens after you install iTunes? Do you see an error message?

There is no 'earlier' version that supports XP. iCloud launched with Vista/7 support only.
